The Awaysis is a mysterious floating relic from which water flows down like rain to the animals living below--until it suddenly stops, causing widespread drought and panic. Cue the arrival of brave little fox Auro to the titular island in the sky, with the mission of figuring out what's going on. But more importantly, being up this high is an open invitation to swing your sword to smack enemies off the edge of the floating ruin, sending them plummeting to the planet below. That's the key differentiator for Awaysis and why developer 17-Bit is referring to it as a dungeon brawler, rather than a dungeon crawler. While creative director Jake Kazdal cites a variety of inspirations, from the 16-bit Secret of Mana to Minecraft Dungeons, those games are about getting better gear to make your damage numbers go up. Kazdal said he's grown tired of the constant focus on damage numbers, as well as the canned animations and responses that deliver them to enemies. Instead of that approach, the combat in Awaysis is driven by what he claims to be cutting-edge physics simulation that isn't being done by anyone else."We want to do something that feels very weighty, it's not scripted animations, it's not frame-perfect timing," he said to me when I visited the Kyoto-based studio for an exclusive first look of Awaysis, prior to the game's official announcement at IGN Live during Summer Game Fest. "It's very much greedy, dirty, physical combat, but based on a classic aesthetic."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Resident Evil: Requiem, also known as Resident Evil 9, stars Grace Ashcroft, the presumed daughter of Resident Evil: Outbreak's Alyssa Ashcroft. The decision to cast a new character in the lead role isn't unheard of for Resident Evil--the last two games have starred Ethan Winters, who was also new at the time. However, fans of the series might've expected a familiar face, such as Leon S. Kennedy, to reappear as the playable character. During the Capcom Showcase for June 2025, the developer-publisher explained why Leon, specifically, isn't a good fit for Requiem."We always thought about making Leon the protagonist," a developer said during the showcase, "but making a horror game based around him is difficult. He wouldn't jump at something like a bucket falling. No one wants to see Leon scared by every little thing. So he's actually quite a bad match for horror." Grace, meanwhile, is said to be an FBI analyst who is trained with guns but must learn to overcome some of her fears over the course of the game's story, as she's initially "introverted and easily scared." View this post on InstagramA post shared by GameSpot (@gamespot) Leon has previously starred in three mainline Resident Evil entries: Resident Evil 2, alongside Claire Redfield, Resident Evil 4--often lauded as the series' best entry--and Resident Evil 6 as one of multiple playable characters. He's appeared in several other offshoots throughout Resident Evil's history, too, such as ReVerse and Operation Raccoon City, and is widely regarded as one of the most prominent figures in the franchise.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Monster Hunter Wilds next free content update is adding two new monsters, Lagiacrus and Seregios, along with underwater combat and layered weapons.Announced during the Capcom Spotlight showcase, Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 2 arrives on June 30, and it is adding a ton of new content to the game. The biggest new additions here are the two monsters, both of which are returning favorites from previous games. Lagiacrus is a sea wyvern, preferring a water habitat. While Capcom's trailer depicted it fighting on land, it also included underwater combat sections, as well. Meanwhile, Seregios is a medium-sized wyvern with bright gold scales. Both of those monsters will be available on June 30.The new monsters will be available on June 30, with other features rolling out later.Capcom also ran down the schedule of new content coming to Monster Hunter Wilds throughout the summer. On June 30, the next wave of cosmetic DLC will arrive, adding new layered armor and emotes. Late July will see the release of the next tempered monster, Arch Temper Uth Duna. Festival of Accord: Flamefete, a summer-themed event with new cosmetics and event quests, runs from July 23 to August 6. On August 27, Capcom is releasing a new emote in collaboration with Fender guitars. Capcom concluded by revealing that Title Update 3, which will add another monster, will arrive in late September.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Year 3 of Street Fighter 6 is underway, and the next DLC character coming to the roster is Sagat, the boss of the original Street Fighter arcade game. During Capcom Showcase, the publisher announced that Sagat will make his return to the franchise on August 5. And that's not all that's coming. The Sagat Arrives Fighting Pass will drop on July 4, and it includes Sagat's wanderer avatar gear. Capcom also noted that this update will increase the amount of content in the fighting pass that can be used in Fighting Ground. Ryu and Ken's EX colors were mentioned by name, as well as new art and effects to use for the game's challenger customization feature.Perhaps the biggest surprise for Street Fighter 6 fans today was the glimpse at the Outfit 4 content, which is basically a lot of thirsty swimsuits for Cammy, Luke, Chun-Li, Manon, Jamie, Kimberly, and A.K.I. Capcom mentioned that other characters will also be getting their swimwear costumes as well.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Civilization 7 didn’t quite meet the lofty expectations of fans, but it’s still a solid empire-building strategy game worth adding to your collection. Halfway through 2025's Summer Game Fest, Resident Evil executive producer Jun Takeuchi popped on-screen to acknowledge the anticipation of Resident Evil 9's reveal. "Bear with us a little longer," he said. "Just a blink of an eye more, and it'll be ready." And he wasn't kidding. By the end of the show, RE9, or Requiem as we now know it, was revealed, pulling the rug from under our collective feet. The trailer had raised numerous questions: Is the new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak? Does it take place in a post-bombing, quarantined Raccoon City? And, most importantly, is it first- or third-person? In another surprise twist, I was able to get hands-on with the game for about 20 minutes, and while I got a few answers, I left with more questions.Having now played a very small portion of the game, there's at least one question I can immediately answer: It's third- and first-person. At any point while playing, you can pause the game and switch from one perspective to another whenever you see fit, unlike Resident Evil Village, which added third-person post-launch and required you to start a separate save file to play it. Though I wish switching perspectives could have been done with the press of a button, this is still a marked improvement. Additionally, it's very clear that Capcom wanted Requiem to feel just as good in third-person as it does in its recent remakes of RE 2, 3, and 4. This is especially apparent in Requiem's cutscenes that are directed cinematically, seeing Grace interact within the scene, opposed to Biohazard and Village, which never broke that first-person perspective. That said, first-person is still recommended by the game.Grace Ashcroft finding her way with only a lighter. For this hands-on, I chose to play it in its recommended first-person perspective. Still, I took a moment to switch to third-person, and it felt very comfortable and comparable to the recent RE remakes. It's a far cry from Village's third-person mode, which did all it could to still obstruct protagonist Ethan Winters' face from ever being seen. Generally, I prefer third-person Resident Evil, but the section I played felt more appropriately suited for first (which I'll explain momentarily). Whether or not some sections later in the game will be better suited for one perspective over the other, we'll have to wait and see. If time had allowed it during my brief hands-on, I would have played the demo again entirely in third-person just to see. But alas.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The next game from Stardew Valley creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone will boast a larger world than the one in his farming simulator. But you don't have to take our word for it; Barone himself made this specific comparison for Haunted Chocolatier. On X, Barone stated that: "The world of Haunted Chocolatier is larger than Stardew Valley." He would know, since in December, Barone noted he was creating Haunted Chocolatier similar to Stardew Valley. "I'm coding it (mostly from scratch) in C#, and I'm working solo in all areas," Barone said after reconfirming he resumed development on Haunted Chocolatier. The world of haunted chocolatier is larger than stardew valley — ConcernedApe (@ConcernedApe) June 11, 2025 It seems like Barone is slowly but surely opening up more about his next game. Last month, the developer discussed how he wanted to focus on mystery and whimsy with Haunted Chocolatier. Barone sounds like he wants players to "let go of your desire to engineer the perfect chocolate" and instead just follow their intuition.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Rainbow Six Siege's "most transformative" update in the game's 10-year history, Siege X, went live this week. It was seemingly embraced by players, as the game's Steam numbers jumped significantly following the debut of Siege X.Data from SteamDB shows a massive spike in players on June 10 with the Siege X launch, peaking at around 142,000 concurrent players on Steam. It's still below Siege's all-time peak of 201,933 achieved on May 17, 2024, but it's an impressive gain all the same as people returned to Siege or tried it for the first time to check out the Siege X update and all of its new features and functionality. Siege is currently inside the top five best-selling Steam games and inside the top 10 most-played games. Steam shares this data publicly, but Microsoft and Sony do not share similar sales or engagement data for the Xbox and PlayStation stores.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
