Another chapter in China's struggle with video games and their impact on society made international news this week. Hong Kong authorities argue that Reversed Front: Bonfire promotes "armed revolution" and the overthrow of the "fundamental system" of mainland China."Reversed Front: Bonfire was released under the guise of a game with the aim of promoting secessionist agendas such as 'Taiwan independence' and 'Hong Kong independence,' advocating armed revolution and the overthrow of the fundamental system of the People’s Republic of China established by the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China," authorities wrote in an official statement. "It also has an intention to provoke hatred towards the Central Authorities and the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region."Anyone who downloads, uses, or makes in-app purchases withing Reversed Front: Bonfire would violate the city's national security law, the statement later read.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Legendary video game developer Hideo Kojima hasn't made a secret about being gravely ill during the COVID-19 pandemic, and he worried that he would never finish another project. Kojima is still thinking about his mortality even after his recovery. However, he doesn't believe that Kojima Productions would survive if he instructs his successors to keep making games exactly the way he does."I am not going to pass the baton to anyone," Kojima told British GQ. "I will rather crush the baton… [Laughs] I don't need to give 'Hideo Kojima' to anyone. If I pass the baton to my staff and tell them to make things the same way I do, the company will not succeed and will go out of business."When asked to elaborate on his statement, Kojima explained that creators who are inspired by him "received my small fire" and aren't trying to be exactly like him. He's happy to have influenced so many, but not eager to see anyone try to copy him exactly.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

You probably caught the reveal of Grounded 2 at Summer Game Fest 2025, but it wasn't the only game highlighted this past weekend that shrinks its heroes down to the size of insects and sends them on an adventure. However, the twist with Cubit Studios' Infinitesimals is that, although the game is set on Earth and told from the point of view of a minuscule hero, it doesn't share Grounded's feelings of a survival game, which border on horror at times. Instead, its mechanics and ubiquitous speed make it all feel like a sandbox full of action figures. It makes sense, too. The game's director, James McWilliams, told me the idea for the game he's been working on since 2013 is the culmination of things that fascinated him as a child. "I always liked nature. And as a kid, I was always fascinated by very small things, you know, like being small in nature. There was always an interest in that. And then I liked sci-fi, so I was bringing the two together." McWilliams said he began toying with the concept 12 years ago by himself, but later staffed up to four thanks to an Epic Games Mega Grant, and then, once Epic Games Publishing fully funded the game, the team grew to nine. My favorite aspect of the demo I played was its speed. McWilliams told me I'd taken over when the hero had applied a few upgrades already, but added his movement speed starts faster than most games and only gets faster from there.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Trading card games are as popular as they have ever been, with names like Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, and Disney Lorcana currently leading the charge. Riot Games has recognized this, and since it happens to have a massively popular franchise called League of Legends at the ready, it's entering the arena with Riftbound, its own spin on a trading card game set in the LoL universe. We recently visited Riot Games to check out this new game, learn the rules straight from the source, and see four trial decks in action with the creators of the game. We also have three new cards to exclusively unveil, which you'll see as you read through the preview. The current TCG giants will be hard to topple, but Riot hopes to champion a successful challenge with Riftbound. Based on what we played, the fundamentals are enough to get Riftbound into the Arena; now it's up to Riot to prove it can go the distance.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

This story contains spoilers for HBO's The Last of Us.Nico Parker cannot bring herself to watch The Last of Us Season 2. Appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Parker, who played Joel's (Pedro Pascal) daughter Sarah in Season 1, said it's too "distressing" to watch her on-screen dad get killed."I haven't watched the second season because the idea of seeing him die is so deeply distressing," Parker said (via EW). That being said, Parker said she's a "huge fan" of the cast, so she admitted she does want to watch Season 2 at some point. Just not yet. "Pedro dying is just a lot," she said.Parker has seen Pascal die on screen before, as she said she watched Gladiator II and witnessed his death in that movie. Season 2 of HBO's The Last of Us wrapped last month, which set up Season 3 to go back and show Abby's (Kaitlyn Dever) point of view on her first day in Seattle. We don't have a premiere date for Season 3, but the composer for the show might have let slip that Season 4 is in the works.Talking on the The Last of Us: Savage Starlight podcast (via GamesRadar) composer Jake Staley vaguely hinted that a fourth season is on the way: "There’ll be at least two more seasons, no question. At least, that’s all I’m gonna say."Backing this up, showrunner Craig Mazin has now said it would be impossible to tell the story he and his team have in mind in anything fewer than four seasons. He even expects Season 3 will have to be longer than Season 2.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Epic Games is planning a big Father's Day collaboration with Fox this year that will bring characters from three of the network's most popular animated sitcoms to Fortnite as skins. The specific skins, which will all land in the item shop on Friday, June 13, include Hank Hill from King of the Hill, Cleveland Brown from Family Guy, and Bob Belcher from Bob's Burgers. No, there's no Homer Simpson in this batch, but there may be a very good reason for it that we'll discuss further down.According to content creators who got the heads-up from Epic about the skins, Hank, Cleveland, and Bob will each be accompanied by a back bling, a pickaxe, and an emote, while Hank Hill and Bob Belcher will also get wraps. Each of the skins will cost 1500 V-Bucks, and they'll all have bundles that cost 2000. What there won't be is one large bundle that includes all three skins, so getting all this stuff will run you 6000 V-Bucks.That's not going to be the only thing to blow your digital currency on in Fortnite this Father's Day. The item shop will also have a new "Dad Essentials" bundle that includes the existing lawn mower emote and new Nike Air Monarch IV kicks. So you can go all the way with that dad look if you really want to.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

After the 2019 release of Code Vein, Bandai Namco staked its claim in a genre it helped popularize as the publisher of games like Dark Souls. Code Vein married that Souls gameplay with its penchant for anime aesthetics to manifest a world of vampires and tough-as-nails action. Now, years later, the team behind that freshman effort is returning with an expanded sequel that will give fans of the sleek anime souls-like more to chew on.Keita Iizuka, producer of Code Vein and its sequel, acknowledges that the genre has changed since Code Vein released, but sees it as a challenge to rise to. “Yes, games like Elden Ring are very praised,” Iizuka starts with a glint in his eye, “But I like to consider those games our rivals.”While Code Vein 2 started development just after the first game wrapped, it is clear that the developers have tried to anticipate where souls-likes might go. While the first title was a bit like souls-likes at the time in structure--which is to say, the non-linear freedom to get lost but not much choice in where to go--Code Vein II looks to rectify this. This time around, the game is expanding around the edges, letting players look for bosses and dungeons in an open environment. The player-character, once again custom-made, even has a slick motorcycle to help facilitate exploration.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
