The battle royale genre dominated 2017. Fortnite, PUBG, Apex Legends, and other games came out around that time and took over the gaming zeitgeist. We're almost a decade out from the golden age of battle royales and Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney believes it is the best shooter genre out there."If you look at the shooter genre, it evolved with new game types coming out over time based on what was possible with the current technology," Sweeney said in an interview with IGN. "Battle royale just happens to be the best shooter genre yet invented -- and thanks to both the Japanese movie makers and [PUBG creator] Brendan Green for discovering the magic there. But it's definitely not the last. There'll be more and it'll get even better and new technologies are going to make things that are currently impossible, possible, and I think that's going to unleash unexpected surprises and creativity."Sweeney also spoke about the fact that people still view Fortnite as just a battle royale and not an "everything game." Epic Games considers Fortnite a platform that includes creator-made modes as well as developer-created modes like Fortnite Festival and Rocket Racing. Battle royale, including it's multiple spin-offs like Zero Build, is still the game's most popular mode.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

After years of rumors and speculation, Final Fantasy Tactics is heading to modern consoles with a remaster, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. Director Kazutoyo Maehiro, art director Hiroshi Minagawa, and original script, scenario writer, and editor Yasumi Matsuno all gave statements about the remaster. However, it was Matsuno who opened up about the political backdrop of the story and how it's still more relevant than ever. The story of FFT centers around two men, Ramza Beoulve and Delita Heiral, who come from completely different backgrounds but initially have similar goals. Eventually, their lives fork off in massively different directions and they find themselves now at odds with one another."Nearly 30 years ago, the collapse of Japan's bubble economy engulfed the nation's financial institutions in mountains of bad debt, triggering a wave of corporate bankruptcies, a sudden and extreme rise in unemployment rates, and stagnation of Japanese society as a whole, it was an era when many were robbed of hope, when dreams were measured by their price tag," Matsuno said.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Interestingly, the URLs for Walmart's new store pages for both editions mentions an exclusive gift; at the moment, the store page doesn't mention the freebie, so it's possible the URL is wrong about this. We'll update with more details as we learn more.Pokemon Legends: Z-A Preorder BonusesThough Pokemon games have received in-game preorder bonuses in the past, the majority of Nintendo's first-party games don't come with official bonuses. The Wes Anderson Archive: The Criterion Collection $368 (was $500) Preorder at Amazon Wes Anderson's directorial career has spanned almost 30 years, and in that time, he has established himself as an auteur filmmaker with an instantly recognizable style. Anderson has directed 13 feature films since 1996, and thanks to the Criterion Collection, 10 of those movies are getting a premium 4K Blu-ray box set on September 30. Along with the movies, Criterion Collection's The Wes Anderson Archive will also include a selection of illustrated books and other exclusive collectibles. While Amazon lists the pricey collection for $500, preorders are currently discounted to $368. The Wes Anderson Archive: The Criterion Collection $368 (was $500) First up, the films. In total, there are 10 movies here that have been digitally remastered in 4K. These include Anderson's early efforts like Rushmore and well-known movies like The Grand Budapest Hotel. Here's the full list:Bottle RocketRushmoreThe Royal TenenbaumsThe Life Aquatic with Steve ZissouThe Darjeeling LimitedFantastic Mr. FoxMoonrise KingdomThe Grand Budapest HotelIsle of DogsThe French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening SunAdditionally, you'll get over 25 hours of special features, like various audio commentary tracks, deleted scenes, promotional materials, interviews, photo galleries, and various other bonus materials that go deep behind the scenes on the making of each film. The big draw here is that this is a Criterion Collection release, which means that each movie is presented as the director intended. Anderson oversaw the development of this box set and he provided final approval, so these are essentially the definitive versions of his films, down to the audio and visual design. The entire bundle also comes with 10 illustrated books, and alongside the 20 Blu-ray discs, the collection is boxed up in a deluxe clothbound edition slipcase that looks like a prop from one of his films. Preorder at Amazon As mentioned above, Anderson films have a distinct look and feel. The director often uses central framing to tell a story, giving his projects a theatrical and scaled-down feel, filling each scene with props and costumes that have a chic, retro-artisanal vibe. The soundtracks are also heavily inspired by the past, as Anderson frequently draws music from the 1960s and 1970s to complement a scene. Anderson has also directed two stop-motion animation movies, which are included in this collection--which feature an amplified take on his quirky directing style.Another great bundle to check out--but it is also quite expensive--is CC40: The Criterion Collection. This 40-film box set features eclectic mix of classic and contemporary films, all accompanied by various special features, and packaged in deluxe packaging. It also comes with an illustrated 216-page book featuring essays on the films inside by critics, scholars, and authors. If you enjoy arthouse cinema, this is the collection to have, if you can afford it. You're getting critically acclaimed films like Sunday Bloody Sunday, Do the Right Thing, and Repo Man, as well as genre-defining movies like Night of the Living Dead and Persona. The giant box set normally costs a whopping $800, but it's currently on sale for $372.66 at Amazon--just be sure to click the coupon code on the store page to get the full discount.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Nintendo never said the game would have this, but it's still a disappointing realization for some people who wanted to enjoy zipping around Mario Kart World's vast map with a friend or family member locally. Many are speculating that this feature not being available may come down to technical considerations. Forza Horizon 5, another popular racing game with a huge map, does not allow for local co-op either.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Lego F1 Mini Race Car Mystery Box (6 Cars) $20 (was $30) See at Amazon See at Walmart See at Target Lego just launched its F1 Mini Race Car Collection in May, but you can already save 33% on a mystery box with six vehicles. The discount drops the price from $30 to $20 and is available at Amazon, Walmart, and Target. Amazon is likely to sell out first, as this limited-time deal is over 60% claimed at the time of writing. The new collection of race cars features 12 different designs to collect. Normally, the mystery box essentially gets you one car for free, as individuals are sold for $5 each. But with the current discount on the mystery box, you're only paying $3.33 per car. You’re very unlikely to get a duplicate in one box, though you’ll need to pick up multiple boxes if you want to complete your lineup--and buying more than one typically leads to duplicates. In that regard, it’s similar to the Lego Minifigure Mystery Box, which gets you a random assortment of six Lego minifigures for $29.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
