As the COVID-19 (coronavirus) continues to spread, and people in many parts of the world are encouraged to stay home, certain business sectors--including the movie industry--have been hit hard. Italy, which has gone into quarantine and has the second highest death toll from the virus (after China), has posted its lowest box-office weekend results in some time, as cinemas go into lockdown.According to Deadline, Italy--the tenth biggest box office market globally--tracked just $504,000 in ticket sales over the weekend of March 6-8, down 94% compared to a year prior.Of course, the cost to the global cinema is nothing compared to the loss of human life--hopefully we'll see a drop in infection rates soon. Number one at the box office was the Italian film Hidden Away, a biopic about the painter Antonio Ligabue, which dropped 79% for a $132,960 take. Disney pushed back the originally planned release of Pixar's Onward, which topped the US box office that same weekend.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Call of Duty's new free-to-play Warzone mode is nearly here. Some gameplay videos have emerged ahead of launch, revealing a long list of interesting details about the battle royale mode. One particularly noteworthy reveal is what happens when you win a match.A video from PlayStation Access shows that, when you've won a match, a message pops up that is very much on-brand for Call of Duty. As you can see below, it says, "Get Some."But it doesn't end there. After that, the winning team (Warzone only supports squad play) gets helicoptered out of the map as the names of all the deceased scrolls through the screen as part of an "In Memoriam" segment. The camera then zooms in on your character and your username pops on screen. This happens even if you die during the match, which is pretty weird but we'll roll with it. Check out the screens below to see what happens when you win a match.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Microsoft is continuing to work on its Project xCloud game streaming service, with the preview version now available in four countries. The Android version of the xCloud test, which now boasts well over 50 games in its library, is adding a new feature designed to help players find a new game to play. Those in the xCloud preview will notice a set of five game trailers next time they open the app. As well as helping players to decide on their next game, xCloud will use the time the trailer is playing to load the game in the background, cutting down wait time if the player decides to jump in and play.As Project xCloud is still in its beta phase, this new feature and many others in the preview may not make it to the finished app in the same state, or at all. "The Project xCloud preview is all about iterating, getting your input, and continuing to build great experiences," the update reads.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Doom 64 is returning on March 20 for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, releasing alongside Doom Eternal. The new version features upscaled graphics, a low price point, and, we're now learning, all-new content that was not featured in the original Nintendo 64 version.USGamer is reporting that Nightdive Studios, the team behind the updated port, has added a new chapter to the game. In an interview, senior developer James Haley described the new chapter to the site, saying that it takes place after the Doom 64 story (which is itself set after Doom II). "The Mother Demon you defeated in that outing had a sister, and since you've been messing up Hell non-stop, she tries to get rid of you by sending you away," Haley explains. "If you can make your way back and take revenge, you’ll be rewarded with a bit of lore that fans of both series, new and classic, should enjoy."The classic Doom games have gotten their share of new content recently, including the John Romero developed Sigil expansion for the original. This expansion recently made its way into the console versions of Doom and Doom II.Elsewhere in the piece, quality assurance lead Leo Mikkola explains that the changed controls make the game "more accessible," with a lower difficulty curve, but not necessarily easier overall, and that there's "a distinct reduction of input lag." It's also confirmed that the PS4 and Switch versions feature optional motion controls.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Get ready for a massive download, Elder Scrolls Online players. The Patching Overhaul in ESO's Update 25 will change the way the game is downloaded, patched and stored on your console--meaning improvements to game load time and a significant reduction in the amount of space taken up on your hard drive. The bad news is that this update will require ESO to be completely re-downloaded from scratch. The game's auto-update will take care of the full process for you, but be prepared for the update to take some time. Update 25 has already been released for PC and Mac, but will be coming to consoles on March 10--so you may need to load up your console early if you're planning to play ESO on Tuesday. The file size for the PC version of this update was 64.22GB, so the console download will likely be similarly huge.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

There's an air of familiarity to Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem. It's an action role-playing game with heavy inspiration from Diablo and Path of Exile, from their high-fantasy gothic settings to their destiny-bound protagonists and plethora of abilities to dabble in. Wolcen wears its influences on its sleeve, and while it makes changes to their established foundations, it stumbles so many times along the way that it just feels lost by the end of it.Wolcen's opening obscures some of its more novel ideas, with a stale and predictable narrative that makes it feel generic. You play as one of three siblings born and bred for battle, but cast out from the only family you know when an unknown power awakens within you. It's a plot filled to the brim with exposition, riddled with vaguely explained fantasy jargon and worldbuilding that never clicks into place. It's easy to forget about entirely after the first few hours, with only the stilted dialogue and awkward cutscenes reminding you of the uninteresting events dressing Wolcen's main draw. The setting, however, doesn't fall prey to the same oppressive medieval look. Gloomy caverns and bright, colorful forests are equally impressive backdrops for the equally outstanding visual details buried within them. The variation across Wolcen's three acts is impressive too, as it whisks you between the opulent, gold-laden halls of an ancient sacred ground to the blood-drenched trenches of a chaotic battlefield.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Mario movie currently in the works at Illumination is still a while away, as it's due to release in 2022. Nintendo has been protective of its characters following 1993's disastrous live-action Super Mario Bros movie, which was an enormous flop that has since achieved cult status. Now, in a new interview, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has opened up about why Nintendo has partnered with Illumination (Despicable Me, Minions) for their upcoming animated film.Shigeru Miyamoto, who is signed on to produce the new movie, spoke to Famitsu about the movie, and a portion of their discussion was translated by Nintendo Everything. In the interview, Miyamoto recalls meeting with Chris Meledandri, the CEO of Illumination. There was one specific thing that made Miyamoto trust the man, and it wasn't because of the success of their films."When we started our partnership with Universal, I heard that the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri, wanted to meet with me," Miyamoto says. "I didn’t know what kind of angle he was getting at, but I’ll never forget when he talked to me about why he had failed before."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The auto-battler revolution of 2019 saw a flurry of activity from publishers as they tried to take advantage of the latest craze: Dota 2 Auto Chess. A custom game mod built using Dota 2 itself, Auto Chess was another product of the endless iteration found in the custom map modding scene--Dota was born out of a Warcraft 3 custom map, which iterated on a StarCraft custom map, and Auto Chess itself iterated on a separate Warcraft 3 map, and so on. A year later, Valve's free-to-play interpretation of Auto Chess is one of the few left standing, and for good reason: Dota Underlords is a thrilling game that promotes layered strategy, mental acuity, and the rush that comes with beating overwhelming odds, making it a continually diverse and compelling experience.Unlike Dota 2, Dota Underlords is a straightforward game. You can easily think of it like a deck builder or drafting game with multiple economies--Dominion, Ascension, or the Legendary series are some good touchstones. Facing off against seven other people, you have to build a team from a selection of heroes presented to you, and that team will then fight in head-to-head battles with others over a series of rounds until only one player remains. When the original pair of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games were released in 2006, they were received as the ugly Duckletts of Pokemon spin-offs. Now, almost 15 years later, it is clear how wrong we were to write off Spike Chunsoft's ambitious take on the titanic series: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX for Switch is wondrous to play and, in a way, boasts a substantially more resonant fable than most other recent Pokemon games. You wake up one morning and everything seems pretty ordinary, at least until you realize that you're not a human anymore. Instead, you've magically and mysteriously metamorphosed into a Pokemon--which exact species is determined by a fun little personality quiz you take at the beginning of the game. Before long you make a new best friend, who is also a Pokemon, and you decide to form a rescue team together. Why? To save foolish Pokemon who have ventured into dangerous dungeons stricken by environmental disasters, even though they're totally aware of said environmental disasters. Over the course of the game, you embark on arduous odysseys to the many dungeons scattered sporadically across the world of Pokemon, each of which contains several 'mons in desperate need of help and lots of others who are a bit aggravated by the daily earthquakes. What's important about Mystery Dungeon carving itself out a new home on Switch is that DX isn't just some sort of lazy rehash. Perhaps the most striking thing about this reworked spin-off, at least at first, is its revised color palette. It's pretty different to the old Mystery Dungeon games, sporting a warm painterly style to replace the originals' GBA-era pixel art. The revamped rescue base you get about halfway through the game is especially gorgeous, while the relentlessly upbeat soundtrack is capable of both intensifying the charming tone of the art and flipping even the tensest moments on their head. This is an essential part of the game's overall appeal, as it goes hand in hand with the fact that Mystery Dungeon is ultimately about overcoming adversity with a smile on your face. One second it seems as if you're on the verge of the inevitable apocalypse, the next you're bobbing along, beaming for no reason, ready to hurtle headlong into a procedurally generated dungeon to save some 'mons and make some money.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The latest box office numbers are in, and Pixar's Onward was unsurprisingly the biggest movie of the weekend in America. The film raked in $40.4 million in the US, which is a huge number, but it's also well below the $50 million that estimates suggested. The downturn in the US isn't due to the coronavirus, Deadline reported. Instead, "it's Onward itself here that isn't working," the site reported. The site points out a number of issues with the film and how it's framed, but it's too soon to say for sure why it's come up short against expectations.Internationally, it's a different story. The impact of the coronavirus seems more readily visible. Onward made only $28 million from 47 international markets, which is well below the $40 million - $55 million range that was forecasted. In total, Onward has made $68 million after its first weekend, which is significantly below the $100 million forecast.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
