Veteran TV writer Gennifer Hutchison--whose credits include Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and the upcoming Lord of the Rings TV show for Amazon--is doing her part to help people facing hardship during the COVID-19 crisis. For a period of time on Twitter, Hutchison was giving away $100 to everyone who replied to her tweet or sent her a DM. "The end of the month is always stressful, and pandemic makes it worse," Hutchison wrote. "If you need a little help right now, let me know. No need to justify. I'll take you at your word you could use the hand."Hutchison said she gave away $100 to as many people as she could before wrapping up. "If I didn't get to you, I'm sorry. 2019's Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is getting a sequel. The film, which teamed up Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham's characters (both formerly antagonists within the main series) for their own adventure, ends with set-up for a sequel that has now been confirmed. This news comes via a fan Q&A on Johnson's Instagram, as picked up on by GameSpot sister site Comicbook.com. According to The Rock, no director is attached yet, and it's unclear when the film will shoot, but the next film is currently being developed. "(We) just gotta figure out the creative right now, and the direction we're going to go," the star said. The release of a Hobbs & Shaw sequel wasn't certain--the film did well at the box office, but it opened below most other films in the franchise, and was ultimately a big but not enormous hit, making $759 million worldwide.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg has been delayed yet again. This time, however, it's not due to anything related to the creative direction of the film. Instead, Sony has delayed the movie as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. The Uncharted movie has shifted from March 5, 2021 to October 8, 2021, a delay of around seven months. The delay is surely due to how production was postponed before it could even begin. Given how the COVID-19 crisis is evolving with new developments every day, it seems the movie's new date is merely a projection.Local governments around the world are not allowing people to gather in the same place for non-essential activities, and this impacts filmmaking. Until those restrictions are loosened or lifted, no movie or TV project is able to begin production again.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

For most people, working from home means swapping an office desk and clean clothes for a home desk and the same pajamas five days in a row. For Conan, it means swapping all the comforts of Warner Bros Studios for a stool in his house, a single camera, and technologically questionable webcam interviews. The late night host had to pause his show early in March due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) update, but quickly vowed to continue to make the show happen using an iPhone and Skype interviews. The at-home show was developed both out of O'Brien's desire to keep doing his show, and the need to keep the show's staff paid and in jobs. Conan is leaning into the lo-fi nature of home broadcast, swapping the slick opening sequence for a montage of webcam stills from all the people working from home to still make the show happen. In contrast to a lot of PSA-heavy programming, Conan also promised that the at-home show would contain no useful information at all, which could be a great move while everyone is in need of mindless distraction.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Editor's note: This review in progress covers the single-player content of Resident Evil 3. We will be playing the multiplayer part of the Resident Evil 3 package, Resistance, over the next few days and finalizing this review once we've fully tested the mode. The opening hours of Resident Evil 3 are incredibly effective at putting you on edge. A remake of the original 1999 game, Resident Evil 3 puts the volatile and intense conflict between protagonist Jill Valentine and the unrelenting force of nature, Nemesis, front and center--giving way to some strong survival horror moments that show off the best of what the series can offer. But after that solid start, this revisit to a bygone era not only loses track of the type of horror game that Resident Evil once was, but also loses sight of what made the original so memorable.Much like 2019's Resident Evil 2, the remake of Resident Evil 3 interprets the classic survival horror game through a modern lens, redesigning locations and altering key events to fit a significantly revised story. Resident Evil 3 doesn't deviate too much from the formula set by the RE2 remake, but it does lean harder into the action-focused slant the original version of RE3 had, giving you some greater defensive skills to survive. RE3's introduction is a strong one, conveying a creeping sense of paranoia and dread that's synonymous with the series, and Jill Valentine once again proves herself to be a confident protagonist to take everything head-on.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

With the release of Borderlands 3's new Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright & Hammerlock DLC, I figured it would be as good a time as any to jump back into Gearbox's first-person loot shooter. The Borderlands franchise has had a decent track record when it comes to post-launch campaign expansions and it's been a few months since I last played Borderlands 3 so, ya know, why not? However, I wasn't particularly enthused by my time with Guns, Love, and Tentacles, largely because Gearbox's interpretation of H.P. Lovecraft's work incorporates some of the problematic parts of the author's worldview and then does nothing to address them. It's the DLC's portrayal of black people that irks me the most, largely because of the Borderlands franchise's style of storytelling. Borderlands games traditionally explore concepts or pieces of pop culture through sarcasm, satire, or playful homage. Gearbox takes something that already exists and adapts it to match its style of irreverent Borderlands mayhem.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

To celebrate the 10th anniversary for the original Nier, Square-Enix held a 10-hour livestream which included a concert performance and a chat with the game's creative leads. During that conversation, the surprise announcement was made, via a beautiful, but vague trailer, that the original Nier will be re-released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, as Nier Replicant ver. 1.22474487139.That title's a bit of a mouthful, but there's pretty good reason for that. The Replicant part isn't actually new. When the original game was released in the west, it was simply called Nier, and was a stand alone game. In Japan, it was actually two titles: Nier Gestalt, which released on the Xbox 360, was the Western release, in which the protagonist is a middle-aged man in the distant future attempting to cure his daughter of a deadly illness. Nier Replicant, on the other hand, was exclusive to the PS3, and featured a much younger protagonist trying to cure his younger sister instead. As such, this new release is essentially the first time Nier Replicant has ever been released outside Japan. As for the version number, it simply seems more appropriate, considering the developers were hesitant during their conversation to call the new release a remaster or remake, but more of a rebuild. There will be numerous updates to elements of the game, including a re-recorded score, including completely new tracks from Keiichi Okabe, re-recorded voice acting, a new character, and possibly a brand-new ending. In addition to the re-release, another project titled Nier Reincarnation, was also announced for iOS and Android. Though no details about the game have emerged about the project, it debuted with a similarly vague trailer that showed brief glimpses of a decaying world--similar to previous games.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

It's crazy to think that we're already a quarter of the way through 2020, and the new month has another batch of video games to feast on. April brings us some sizzling hot remakes: the survival horror outing Resident Evil 3, the sword-slashing tale of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and the reimagined retro RPG Trials of Mana. Movie fans can also get a taste of nostalgia with Predator: Hunting Grounds, and the Gears of War crowd gets a new strategy-heavy campaign with Gears Tactics.Resident Evil 3 -- April 3Available on: PS4, Xbox One, PCResident Evil 3 is getting the same treatment as 2019's Resident Evil 2 remake, which is appropriate since the two games overlap. RE 3 sees Jill Valentine exploring a zombie-filled Raccoon City, where she and other S.T.A.R.S. agents are being hunted down by the nasty Nemesis. That's just the single-player component--this remake also includes Resident Evil Resistance, an asymmetrical multiplayer mode. Four players control survivors, while a fifth mastermind tries to take them out with zombies, Lickers, Tyrants, and all sorts of tricks and traps.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The long, long wait for Final Fantasy VII Remake on PlayStation 4 has been a little shorter for a few fans. Reports have surfaced of the game breaking street date, and a few early copies making their way into customer's hands amid stores shutting over fears relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Reddit, one user has posted images of their copy of the Deluxe Edition, showing what is available in the slightly-pricier boxed version of the game. Although those images have since been removed by moderators, they clearly showed a copy of the game and the contents of this edition.Square Enix has also posted an update on the game's availability, admitting that it might be harder to get physical copies of the game into people's hands due to the pandemic. "As we prepare for the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake on April 10, we wanted to keep you updated on how the proactive measures being taken to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus are likely to affect the distribution and retail landscape in western regions at launch," the post reads. "As you will be aware, many countries are limiting entry or closing their national and state borders and restricting the distribution and delivery of non-essential items. Understandably these restrictions are being implemented so that essential items can reach their destination as fast as possible."Final Fantasy VII Remake is not the only game that has been sold early at retail as stores scramble to get games to customers before they are made to shut. There have also been reports of some stores selling Resident Evil 3 early after word got out that the physical release of the game might be delayed in Europe, and Doom Eternal was sold at GameStop a day early due to social distancing measures. This also means that spoilers for changes made to Final Fantasy 7 Remake are likely to surface online, as they have for Resident Evil 3. This is not the first time the game has been subject to spoilers--an early leak of the demo was datamined for information back in January, before that demo had officially been announced.Final Fantasy VII Remake will release digitally--and physically, if you can find a copy--on April 10, and it will be exclusive to PlayStation 4 for at least a year. While this Remake only covers a portion of the original game, Square Enix promises that it will be as long as other games in the Final Fantasy series.Info from Gamespot.com

The new Xbox Series X controller, like its predecessors, will use AA batteries instead of a rechargeable battery that is found in PlayStation's DualShock controllers.Xbox partner director Jason Ronald told Eurogamer that the Xbox audience is split nearly evenly when it comes their preference between AA batteries versus a built-in rechargeable battery. Sticking with AA batteries for Xbox Series X is an effort to please both camps, as people can still buy a rechargeable battery pack for the controller, Microsoft said.A closer look at the Xbox Series X controller"What it comes down to is when actually talking to gamers, it's kind of polarizing and there is a strong camp that really want AAs," Ronald said. "So just giving flexibility is the way to please both [sets of] people... You can use a rechargeable battery pack and it works just like it does on the Elite, [but] it is a separate thing."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Watchmen, our favorite show of 2019, might not come back for another season, but the show's stars have found a reason to come together. Showrunner Damon Lindelof has taken to Instagram to post a video of the show's cast encouraging people to wash their hands and practice effective social distancing amid the COVID-19 crisis. The video doesn't really contain much in the way of practical advice, but if we put aside for a moment how celebrities creating videos like this can be condescending, we have here a nice little reunion of the show's celebrated cast--and some of them have delivered their messages in character. The video, below, includes Regina King (Angela Abar), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Cal), Tom Mison (Mr Phillips), Sara Vickers (Ms. Crookshanks), Andrew Howard (Red Scare), Jean Smart (Laurie Blake), Tim Blake Nelson (Wade Tillman), Dustin Ingram (Agent Petey), and Jovan Adepo (Will Reeves).
