The Guild, Felicia Day's hit webseries about the members of an online MMO guild who begin interacting in real life, is currently available for free on the Microsoft Store. You can pick up most of this award-winning series and revisit a time when "webisode" was a term people used and good original streaming content was rare. This deal only applies to the US store, unfortunately, and only the first five seasons are available. The sixth season can be watched on Netflix. The members of The Guild are also reuniting this week for a one-off charity Twitch stream. On April 16 at 7 PM PT, Day and the rest of the crew will be hosting a live D&D session. It's happening in support of No Child Hungry, a charity focused on feeding disadvantaged kids in the US.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Developer Obsidian has spoken about the numerous cuts it made to the award-winning RPG The Outer Worlds, labelling some of the cuts "painful" and how they limited the story the studio wanted to tell.In a new Noclip documentary, which you can watch below, game director Leonard Boyarsky said the team "had to make one cut too many." Specifically, the studio decided to axe some content that would have shed more light on some of the companion characters, while the company also removed some main story chunks.Despite these cuts, Obsidian remains proud of The Outer Worlds because if people are calling for more content, that means they like the game, Boyarsky said.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Suit up, wastelanders, because Fallout 76 is almost live on the Steam storefront. The post-apocalyptic slice of West Virginia was previously available only through the Bethesda.net service, but it's now available for pre-load on Steam ahead of its April 14 release.Prior to April 12, players who owned Fallout 76 on Bethesda.net could obtain a free copy of the game on Steam by linking their accounts. Publisher Bethesda also clarified that players will not be able to transfer their virtual currency Atoms from account to account, though purchases made on the storefront will be shared between the Steam and Bethesda.net versions of the game. Both players who linked their Steam accounts for the free transfer and those who purchase Fallout 76 on Steam from April 14 to 28 will gain a free copy of Fallout Classic Edition, which includes Fallout 1, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics. I started Final Fantasy VII Remake right when it unlocked last week and have been either playing it or thinking about it ever since. Even when I pick up my phone to check social media, I'm greeted with posts about this excellent game. Now when I grab my phone, though, I instantly see a snazzy wallpaper featuring Cloud Strife. To celebrate, Final Fantasy VII Remake's release, Square Enix is giving away seven different mobile wallpapers through the Final Fantasy Portal app on iOS and Android. The wallpapers are based on key art for Final Fantasy VII's main characters. There are two for Cloud, two for Sephiroth, and one for Tifa, Aerith, and Barret. Sadly, there aren't backgrounds available for Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge, all of whom have been given great personalities in the remake. To get the wallpapers, you'll have to download the Final Fantasy Portal app on your mobile device. After downloading, head over to the Exchange in the app, and you'll see all seven wallpapers right at the top. You have to sign into your Square Enix account to claim them.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Fallout 76's Wastelanders expansion is coming soon, finally introducing NPCs to a world that was previously only occupied by monsters and other human players (some of whom were figurative monsters). That update will come with a few hours of downtime, and ZeniMax has described just how long you can expect it to last.According to a post on the official forums, downtime will start at 3 AM ET on April 14, and the studio expects the maintenance to last until 8 AM ET. Official patch notes will be available once the downtime begins.Fallout 76 got off to a rocky start (and fairly poor reviews, including GameSpot's Fallout 76 review) due to a variety of technical bugs and quality-of-life issues. The company has put time into addressing many of the technical aspects, but from the start, the decision to forgo the usual NPC style of mission-giver has led to complaints that the world feels too sparse. The Wastelanders update addresses that by finally adding a more traditional Fallout mission structure and campaign.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Entertainment Software Rating Board will now display if a game has in-game purchases with random elements like lootboxes in their ratings. In the blog that accompanies the new policy, the ESRB notes that while it began to label titles with in-game purchases back in April 2018, it has made the decision to note these elements due to research that suggests that parents are more concerned about randomized in-game purchases than other types.#ESRB will begin assigning a new Interactive Element, In-Game Purchases (Includes Random Items). Find out more in our new blog: https://t.co/LPhd5rl7VL pic.twitter.com/nO6p8r1yYJ — ESRB (@ESRBRatings) April 13, 2020The blog also notes that the ESRB felt that labelling these games with terms like "loot boxes" was insufficient, because there are many other mechanics for randomizing such items, including prize wheels or item packs. By using a general term, the ESRB says that the new "In-Game Purchases (Includes Random Elements)" notice will effectively communicate the presence of these possibly objectionable elements to parents and consumers. This announcement comes as governments around the world have begun to consider or implement legislation aimed at curtailing lootboxes or other randomized elements, especially from children. Belgium famously banned the practice in 2018, and a bill to ban the sale of games with lootboxes to minors under the age of 18 was introduced to the US Senate in 2019. The Federal Trade Commission also hosted a public panel on microtransactions in video games late last year, which prompted major console manufacturers Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo to announce that games with lootboxes would be required to disclose drop rates.Info from Gamespot.com

With games like The Last of Us Part 2 being delayed and everyone spending more time at home, it's a great time to dig through your backlog. It's also a good opportunity to revisit classics and perhaps introduce them to younger players for the first time, too. If you haven't snagged one yet, the Sega Genesis Mini is on sale for $50 at Best Buy, which is $30 off its retail price. See at Best Buy Though the Genesis Mini has been discounted to as low as $35 (very briefly), we rarely see it for less than $60. The Genesis Mini released last year as Sega's answer to the wildly popular NES and SNES Classic Editions from Nintendo.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
