After two Ori games, Blind Forest and Will of the Wisp, Moon Studios is going a more realistic direction. In an interview with GameSpot, studio founder Thomas Mahler talked about the approach and how it differs from the use of fantasy creatures.Spoilers for Ori and the Blind Forest follow."[Using a fantasy setting] certainly helps us tell stories that we otherwise couldn't tell in this way. An interesting experiment would be to take the Ori story and just try to tell that through humans. Kuro kind of commits genocide. Right? Holy shit, that's crazy. But using fantasy creatures and doing that, it allows us to tell really harsh emotional stories without people questioning it."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Modder and hacker Lance McDonald is no stranger to mucking around in the code of Souls games, but he appears to have accomplished another technical feat. Though Bloodborne is widely considered one of developer From Software's best games, it was capped at 30 frames per second for its original PS4 release--often falling far below that on a base PS4--and it's never made the leap to other platforms that could provide better performance.I patched Bloodborne to run at 60fps. It works alright (about as good as the Dark Souls 3 PS4 Pro patch does) except for the fact that the game doesn't have proper timing and the entire game basically runs in fast-forward. This is running on a base PS4. pic.twitter.com/vfdjjWxpp5 — Lance McDonald (@manfightdragon) April 28, 2020Ah, I did it! Bloodborne running with a 60fps frame cap (no v-sync so lots of screen tearing) with proper frame timing and game logic timing. This is running on a base PS4 pro, will try to get an actual FPS counter to display tomorrow and test on PS4 Pro with boost mode. pic.twitter.com/V6uxQ4bT9k — Lance McDonald (@manfightdragon) April 28, 2020Here's the opening area on a PS4 Pro running in boost mode. pic.twitter.com/bYut1Ak6DL — Lance McDonald (@manfightdragon) April 28, 2020McDonald shared some footage on Twitter that seems to be the first few minutes of Bloodborne in 60 FPS. Initially, McDonald posted a clip where the game was running at a higher frame rate, but this caused everything in the game to run at double-speed, due to the way the game logic is coded. He appears to have overcome that in the second clip. The third clip was recorded on a PS4 Pro in boost mode, which McDonald says makes a massive difference in performance. We've reached out to the modder for the details of how he accomplished this. McDonald is well-known for uncovering hidden or discarded elements of popular games, including a certain antagonist flipping you off in one God of War scene. From Software's Souls series has encountered more than its fair share of technical problems over the years. The original PC release of the seminal Dark Souls was also capped to 30 FPS, which led to another modder named Peter "Durante" Thoman to develop a mod to fix that and other issues. (It worked quite well, except for the occasional ladder causing you to fall through the world.) As for a hypothetical Bloodborne 2, it's been rumored several times over the years, especially since it was director Hidetaka Miyazaki's favorite game to make. However, the visionary is currently busy with the forthcoming Eldin Ring, so it's hard to know what the future of Bloodborne or even the Souls series is at this point.Info from Gamespot.com

Generally, a game's release shouldn't be a surprise. It's nice when it is for players, letting them download it straight after an announcement. But it should never be one for its developers. At the very least not in the way Indivisible's release on Nintendo Switch today apparently surprised its creators, Lab Zero.According to Indivisible's lead designer, Mike Zaimont, Indivisible launched today on Nintendo Switch without any indication that it was coming. It was a nice surprise for fans waiting for a portable version of the RPG, especially with the 20% discount at launch, but it shocked developer Lab Zero, as Zaimont explained on Twitter.HEY, THAT THING EVERYONE WANTED?@IndivisibleRPG is out RIGHT NOW digitally for Switch in North America!Feel like you missed the announcement? You're not alone, our team found out because people on Twitter sent us congratulations! I had no idea! But there it is! :^P1/ pic.twitter.com/bByIeD0rhj — Mike Zaimont (@MikeZSez) April 28, 2020According to Zaimont, Lab Zero was unaware that the port was launching today, with no communication from publisher 505 Games. The port is also missing content, with Zaimont pointing out that cooperative play, New Game Plus, and additional content added to other versions via patches were missing. Although he praised the game's overall technical performance (indicating that Zero Labs did no work on the port) he ended the thread with, "This launch does not represent the quality standards of Lab Zero. It just doesn't. I'm sorry. It wasn't us."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and a ton of other EA-published digital PC games are seeing some truly ridiculous discounts on Amazon. In addition to Jedi: Fallen Order, some of EA's best PC games of the last decade are discounted below $5. This includes The Sims 4, some fantastic shooters, and much more. Each game is available as a digital copy that can be redeemed via Origin.Last year's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is currently 50% off at $30. Set five years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, Fallen Order is an engaging action-adventure game starring Cal Kestis, a young Jedi living in the aftermath of the Great Jedi Purge. In GameSpot's Jedi: Fallen Order review, critic Phil Hornshaw scored it an 8/10. He said, "It's true that Fallen Order borrows liberally from other action games, but those elements work together with Respawn's combat and environment design, and a story that finds humanity in the Force and in its characters, to hone in on what makes the world of Star Wars worthy of revisiting again and again."Some of EA's best shooters of this past generation are also discounted. Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1, and Battlefield 4 are all down to a measly $3 each. Titanfall 2 features an incredible single-player campaign that makes $3 an absolute steal, even if the multiplayer has seen more popular days. On the other hand, Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 4 both still have devoted communities that make finding a great multiplayer match fairly easy--and their campaigns are pretty good to boot.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Riot Games has released a new patch for Valorant. The update addresses several aspects of the competitive shooter, including map changes and the implementation of new features. In terms of gameplay, the patch mostly makes adjustments to Omen. Phoenix and Viper don't get any balance changes, but bug fixes have been issued to address problems with a few of their abilities. Both Omen and Breach also now have updated visuals when it comes to their respective character model and abilities. Most exciting, however, is the mention of a competitive mode in the patch notes, though Riot says that competitive mode and ranked matchmaking isn't live yet--it's scheduled to be available in the "near future." You can read the full patch notes below.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Despite the widespread disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the BBC has just announced the production of a new television series set to debut soon. Talking Heads--a partial remake of a set of televised monologues originally aired in 1988 and 1998--will get around the challenges posed by quarantines and social distancing by allowing its actors to film without ever needing to share the same space.According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new version of Talking Heads will air in 12 parts and features an impressive ensemble cast that includes actors like Killing Eve's Jodie Comer The Hobbit's Martin Freeman, Episodes' Tamsin Greig, The English Patient's Kristen Scott Thomas, and many more. As in the original '80s and '90s series, the 2020 edition of Talking Heads will consist of dramatic monologues, each delivered by a single actor.Alan Bennett, the writer and actor behind Talking Heads' first two runs, has returned to the series, working with director and producer Nicholas Hytner's London Theatre Company to remake 10 episodes and create two entirely new entries. Hytner calls the production, which has had to find novel ways to work while observing public health guidelines, a "challenge" that has required the cast and crew to "[rethink] ways of filmmaking that until a few weeks ago seemed routine."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
