The latest update to Fortnite is now live, introducing a new limited-time mode, some significant balance changes, and other additions. Several of the changes from the 12.50 patch are already live, while dataminers have been digging up details about what may be coming.The biggest new addition is Operation Payload, the latest limited-time mode. Like other Payload modes, you need to attack or defend a moving target as it makes its way across the map, and then switch to the other side to do it all over again. Epic teased that you can earn Intel and unlock more spy tech through the mode.Though not really a mode, per se, Epic is also testing its "Party Royale" mode this week. That mode is non-competitive, taking place on an alternate, smaller map with friendly activities to do with your pals in a less hostile environment. In late March, Square-Enix held a lengthy livestream where they revealed Nier Replicant ver. 1.22474487139, which they're calling an "upgraded version" of the original Nier for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. In a recent interview with Famitsu, the developers behind this new Replicant upgrade discussed the changes that the new version will bring to the game.Nier Replicant will feature an entirely new voiceover cast, as well as original and freshly re-recorded songs from the initial release. While the camera work for the cutscenes will remain the same as the first version, the developers have brought in Takahisa Taura of Platinum Games to refine the game's action to be more in line with what fans of the 2017 sequel, Nier: Automata, expect. There's no word yet on a release date.The original Nier celebrated its 10th anniversary recently. In Japan, the original Nier came out in two different versions: Gestalt, which cast the titular character as an older father figure, and Replicant, which made him a younger, older-brother type. Movie theaters are closed around the world because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Social distancing and shelter in place orders are in effect in many places in the United States. Even if Americans wanted to go to movie theaters, they can't. As a result, many movie studios are delaying release dates or just going right to on-demand rentals. Because of this, Universal Pictures realized that VOD is a viable way to make money on new movies, and in turn, AMC Theaters--the largest movie theater chain in the country--is pissed.To give a quick rundown of how all this happened, Universal couldn't release Trolls: World Tour in theaters, so it went straight to on-demand rental. After three weeks, the movie sequel made more revenue for the studio than the original did after five months in theaters, mainly because of the higher percentage the studio takes from digital rentals compared to box office sales. This led Universal CEO Jeff Shell to say that in the future, the studio could release movies both in theaters and as VOD rentals.AMC boss Adam Aron released a statement saying that the theater chain will no longer screen Universal films, and Universal responded restating that they're still releasing movies in theaters--when they reopen--and the choice to turn to VOD was to give people staying at home something to watch. Trolls: World Tour managed to out-earn the first Trolls film by opting for a paid on-demand (POVD) release instead of delaying its theatrical debut. Despite how well that decision has gone for distributor Universal Pictures on a financial level, the company faced backlash from theater chain AMC, which yesterday announced it would no longer show Universal's movies in retaliation for the production giant "unilaterally [abandoning] current windowing practices." Now, as Deadline reports, Regal Cinemas are following AMC's example by promising to do the same.The theater chain's owner, Cineworld Group, explained the reasoning behind this decision in a statement issued today. In it, the company calls Universal's Trolls: World Tour POVD release a "completely inappropriate" move that "certainly has nothing to do with good faith business practice, partnership, and transparency." Cineworld also condemns Universal for bypassing the theatrical release window during the coronavirus pandemic, which has caused the company to close theaters and leave "35,000 employees … at home" without work."We have full confidence in the industry's current business model," Cineworld writes after stating, strongly enough, that its theaters "will not be showing movies that fail to respect the windows." Developer Psyonix has announced that some of Rocket League's more-recent limited-time modes, such as Beach Ball and Heatseeker, will return in a month-long event on all platforms starting this May.The car soccer game will hold a Modes of May event, a special month-long showcase that kicks off on Friday, May 1 with Dropshot Rumble. The LTE, which runs from May 1-4, combines "the action of Dropshot enhanced by the zany power-ups from Rumble." Modes of May will swap the modes each weekend in the month.Beach Ball, an LTE where two teams of two contend with a ball that curves and floats around the field, comes back on May 7. May 14 will see Boomer Ball return, though Psyonix said "more [information] on that [mode]" will be revealed as we get closer to the date. Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn't an "edutainment" game, but your submissions to Blathers' museum do carry a lot of real educational value. But science can be tricky, and a new dinosaur discovery has rendered one of the Animal Crossing fossils outdated. As reported by Science News, archeologists recently found the most complete tail bone of a spinosaurus ever recovered. Since launch, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been steadily growing in size thanks to its frequent, large updates. Following this week's latest patch and additional content DLC owners of the game, Modern Warfare no occupies close to 200GB on any given platform.Modern Warfare on PC currently takes about just over 180GB of hard-drive space, while ringing in at just over 185GB on PS4 and Xbox One. This follows two patches that went live on April 28. On PC these were combined into a single 32GB download, while it was split into a 12GB title update and additional 18GB DLC download on consoles. Warzone players on console could skip the latter of the two, reducing their overall download requirement and file size.Downloading big updates has become normal for Modern Warfare players, so much so that developer Infinity Ward addressed it specifically in February. During the lead up to Season 2, Infinity Ward stressed that the large update size at the time (in excess of 50GB) would help reduce update sizes in the future, while also improving the game's overall footprint on your hard drive. Ubisoft has released a new video on the state of The Division 2. The video, below, sees the team discussing the upcoming Title Update 9.1 patch, connectivity issues, warhound convoy, and more.First and foremost, Ubisoft has nothing to say about The Division 2's upcoming raid. "We don't have any information about the raid yet," community developer Chris Gansler said. "My goal is to give you at least two weeks of a heads up so you'll have plenty of time to look at getting ready for the raid and all that stuff." Gansler went on to say that the raid should come packaged in Title Update 10, but there's currently no word on when this drops for PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One.Ubisoft is continuing its investigation into The Division 2's connectivity issues. Gansler said the Delta/Foxtrot errors should occur less frequently following a recent backend update. However, the Delta errors persist in general and the team is "currently struggling to figure out what the underlying causes [are]."
