It's been a decade since AMC's The Walking Dead first started and nearly a year since the comic book's surprise conclusion with issue #193. Now, after all this time has passed, writer and co-creator Robert Kirkman has revealed what started the zombie apocalypse in his fictional series. Turns out it was aliens all along--well, sort of. What remains to be seen is whether the often-sarcastic Kirkman was joking, as he shared the potential revelation in a two-word tweet that doubles down on something originally shared many years ago.In responding to a fan on Twitter who asked how the series' zombies came to be, Kirkman said space had something to do with it. Apparently, a "space spore" is what created the walkers in TWD's universe.Space spore. — Robert Kirkman (@RobertKirkman) January 22, 2020As GameSpot sister site Comic Book notes, Kirkman and original series artist Tony Moore pitched a continuation to George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead, a 1968 horror film in which scientists thought reanimated corpses were caused by a returning space probe's explosive radiation. Kirkman's "space spore" answer is likely an homage to Romero's cult horror classic.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

In early May we announced Play For All, a GameSpot event that takes the exciting news, interviews, previews, and analysis of gaming's biggest summer announcements, and combines it with a fundraising effort to help healthcare workers. The world at large is engaging in social distancing, but for many, putting themselves at risk to help others is part of their daily life. Our goal is to bring together the community to celebrate video games and enjoy all the exciting new announcements, while also raising money for an important cause. To do this, we reached out to a bunch of our friends from across the industry and convinced them to come and hang out, play games, and have some fun with us and you. These charity streams will deliver hours of entertainment, and since we're partnering with Direct Relief to fundraise, you'll be able to watch along from the comfort of your home and, if you can, donate to support the cause or spread the word.Play For All kicks off on June 1, and we'll have daily streams taking place from 12 PM - 2 PM PT/3 PM - 5 PM ET/8 PM - 10 PM BST. Of course, on days where major press conferences are taking place, we may move these streams to accommodate, so you're not missing out on either. As events continue to be announced we'll adjust our schedule and let you know. You'll be able to watch all of our streams on GameSpot.com, Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Minecraft developer Mojang is moving into the new decade with a new name--or at least a very slightly revised one. The company has been opening more offices around the world as it expands its focus beyond the popular freeform creation game. As a result, it has changed its name from Mojang to Mojang Studios, with an accompanying logo revision to match. It's even released an accompanying video to showcase the changes, and you can watch it below. The news comes just as Minecraft celebrates its 11th anniversary recently, with the first version having been released back in May 2009. It's also celebrating a massive milestone: 200 million copies of Minecraft have been sold, with a huge number of active players every month. The new logo is made up of little gadgets called "Mojangs," appropriately enough, and in the trailer they are turned and twisted around to spell out the studio's name. It sounds like it won't be the last time we hear about the somewhat sentient gizmos, and they should pop up again as we learn about future Mojang Studios projects.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

NPCs themselves will change based on your choices in side-missions as well.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The show's been renewed for a second season, but with the world on lockdown, they instead put together a special installment about life in quarantine. Respawn has made a name for itself as a developer willing to take risks and innovate on what it's good at. In 2019, we saw the studio tackle a live service battle royale game with Apex Legends, a genre that Respawn hadn't broached before. Rather than simply emulate what had worked for other developers in the past, Respawn crafted its own style of battle royale with a narrative focus--and in the process, it began creating a true episodic game. With the start of Season 5: Fortune's Favor and the addition of Quest mode, Respawn is leaning further into this categorization and trying to be more experimentative as a whole. For the first time, the developer removed an iconic portion of the game's map and implemented character balancing changes that weren't straight buffs or nerfs. And according to Respawn, it's worked out very well so far. Apex Legends News Apex Legends Season 5's First Hunt Is Live--Unlocks More Story Details Apex Legends Update Targets Hit Registration, But It's Not Fixed Yet Apex Legends Season 5 Battle Pass Revealed--All Legendary, Epic, And Rare Rewards Apex Legends Season 5 Patch Notes Released For Fortune's Favor Update The Quest To Be More EpisodicTraditionally, episodic games resemble Telltale's The Walking Dead or Life is Strange, but these games are more akin to streaming service binge culture. Most streaming services traditionally release entire seasons of a show at once for you to binge through with several months between each chunk. Similarly, episodes of games like The Walking Dead or Life is Strange are usually two to three hours long--you can digest each one in a single sitting like a TV show episode but once you do, you don't get any more of the story for months. Prior to Season 5, Apex Legends told its story in much smaller pieces, with tidbits of lore or narrative given to the player through season launch trailers, Stories from the Outlands episodes, tweets, battle pass rewards, and unlockable legend intro and kill quips. Pieces of the story were delivered to you a lot more quickly, like a weekly TV show.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
