In 2019, the head of Bayonetta developer Platinum Games, Atsushi Inaba, said he was not all that impressed by the next generation of consoles from Sony and Microsoft. He said they offered "more of the same," and those comments led to some debate and discussion.Inaba has now clarified his comments, telling Video Games Chronicle that his original words led to "a little bit of backlash" and the perception that he was a snob. Inaba now says he's excited by the fact that the new consoles will allow developers to "do more" as it relates to graphics and technology. However, he stands by his estimation that the leap from the PS4/Xbox One era to the PS5/Xbox Series X era won't be as dramatic as the shift that occurred years ago during previous console transitions."If you think back to the generation between Super Nintendo and PlayStation, and how we went from pixel art to 3D polygons… nobody could have ever imagined that a few years prior," Inaba said. "When that stuff started coming out people were just blown away: they weren't ready for it, they weren't anticipating it… it was just so new."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, the 2019 fighting game featuring the sentai warriors from the hit series, is expanding with three new characters. A third season of DLC has been announced with a trailer, and while only two fighters have been properly announced, it's pretty clear who the third one will be.The trailer below shows off Robert “RJ” James and Lauren Shiba, but the comments below the video have uniformly identified the third character, shown in silhouette, as Scorpina, a long-time villain in the Power Rangers mythos. The first content from this pass should drop towards the end of June, and in addition to the three extra fighters, anyone who buys it will also receive a new Phantom Beast King character skin for Dai Shi and a Samurai Megazord ultra. This follows several other updates and DLC packs for the game. Self-isolation may have all of us acting weird, but at least it doesn't come close to Rainn-Wilson-interviewing-Billie-Eilish weird. The two got together for a talk on his Instagram show, Hey There, Human, where he soon renamed the popstar "William Eyelash" and told her to move on from The Office, as reported by EW."I just finished watching The Office for a 15th time two days ago," Billie Eilish admitted on the show. She's been open about her Office fandom in the past, with her song My Strange Addiction featuring a handful of voice clips sampled from the iconic show. "Every time I hit that episode that says finale, I'm always like, goddamn it." Wilson, who played Dwight Schrute through the show's nine seasons, told her, "It's time to move on to another show, really. Please!"It's a reaction he's given to other Office fans before--and not just the famous ones. In a 2017 episode of Conan, the actor begged fans to stop tweeting him about The Office in-jokes years after the show ended (though he still occasionally posts them himself).Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

For nearly 20 years, Frogwares has been the premier developer of games based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. Following the release of 2019's The Sinking City, an open-world adventure game inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, the developer jumped straight to work on its follow-up--this time bringing their most well-known character back to his roots in a large setting to explore. In an exclusive with GameSpot, the developers at Frogwares have revealed that is developing and self-publishing Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One, a prequel that will focus on the early exploits of the gentleman sleuth.Set for release in 2021 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and next-gen consoles, Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One takes cues from The Sinking City, bringing players into an explorable open-world city filled with characters to meet, disguises to wear, and mysteries to solve. Set in the early years of the detective's career, the game casts you as a 21-year-old Sherlock Holmes who returns to his Mediterranean island hometown following his mother's death. After reacquainting himself with the island, his family manor, and the enigmatic companion Jonathan--who is definitely not Watson--he'll discover that the town has got some secrets, and he'll use his budding yet still brilliant detective skills to uncover a larger conspiracy at work. Before the reveal, I spoke with Frogwares producer and community manager Sergey Oganesyan and lead feature designer Yaroslav Martyniuk about what's to come in the next Sherlock Holmes game. As a prequel, Chapter One is set many years before the detective's other cases in games like Crime and Punishment and The Devil's Daughter. Similar to Batman: Year One, Chapter One reframes the early years of the detective and his world, doubling as a prequel to the narrative arc from Frogwares' previous Sherlock games, and a gateway for newcomers to jump into the series.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Breaking from longstanding tradition, the next round of PlayStation Plus freebies will begin before the new month even starts. PS4 users will be able to grab one of June's free games, Call of Duty: WWII, starting tomorrow, May 26. The second freebie will be announced later this week, and we imagine it will go live on June 2, the first Tuesday of the month.Developed by Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty: WWII originally released in 2017 and brought the series back to its original World War II-era setting for the first time since World at War in 2008. Call of Duty: WWII is particularly known for having a strong single-player campaign, which clocks in around six hours. The online servers are still live, and while they aren't extremely active, you can expect the player count to tick up since far more people will have access to it on PS4.In addition to the campaign and traditional multiplayer playlists, WWII also has a fun narrative-focused War mode with unique maps and lengthy attack/defend objectives. The strong package earned the first-person shooter a 9/10 in our Call of Duty: WWII review.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Premier League football club Manchester United has filed a lawsuit against Sega and Sports Interactive, the publisher and developer respectively of Football Manager. The football club is unhappy with how its name, badge, and overall trademark has been used in the game without its consent, despite appearing in Football Manager for decades. According to The Guardian, Manchester United's attorney is also seeking to add player-made mods to the lawsuit, in light of how it claims Sega and Sports Interactive encourage players to use them to recreate clubs in the game.In a counterargument, Sega claimed that the lawsuit by Manchester United intends to “prevent legitimate competition in the video games field by preventing parties not licensed by the claimant from using the name of the Manchester United football team within such games". It also argues the validity of a lawsuit that seeks to prevent the use of the name "Manchester United" in any context without the authority of the trademark holder.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Free-to-play games can live or die by the quality of their cosmetic content, and Riot's new shooter Valorant is no exception. In a recent blog post, the team behind Valorant revealed how it develops the game's premium skins.According to the post, the process begins with a brainstorming process to determine the fantasy and genre that the weapon skin promotes, from sci-fi to high fantasy. However, the team sticks to a number of core rules, chief among them that the skin's unique visual effects and animations are only seen by its owner in first-person.The developers also take great care to ensure that the outline and shape of the specific weapon is still recognizable, for the sake of fair competition. Since the skins in Valorant have unique animations for headshots and reloads, playtesters sample the skins in order to make sure that they aren't too distracting for the user.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

As has become tradition with the annual Call of Duty series, this year's game has apparently leaked ahead of its official announcement. While Activision has already confirmed a new Call of Duty is coming this year, it hasn't shared any details whatsoever. However, according to a tweet that has since been corroborated by Eurogamer, this year's game will be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War--signaling both a return the popular sub-series and a shift in naming convention for it. It will be the fifth main game in the Black Ops series, but will be the first to go back to go significantly back in time since the original Black Ops, as the series has gotten progressively more futuristic over the years. The Black Ops Cold War name first appeared on Twitter by leaker Okami13, and Eurogamer has since reported it's heard the same news from its sources. This means that much like 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, developer Treyarch is going back to where Call of Duty: Black Ops started--a stark change from the future-based warfare the Black Ops series traded in with its third and fourth installments. The Cold War setting has already been teased in Call of Duty: Warzone, with reported plans for the battle royale to eventually reveal the game in its entirety. Players have found a Cold War spyplane by glitching through walls. The reveal might have tied into the ongoing mystery behind the many vault doors in Warzone currently.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

While Activision Blizzard and its studios have not been immune to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, its biggest game of the year is still on track for its release. The new Call of Duty, which seems to be subtitled Black Ops: Cold War, is still set to release before the end of the year, Activision confirmed as part of its latest earnings report.During the call, Activision Blizzard president and COO Daniel Alegre shared that employees have adapted to the new changes in society, and that Call of Duty 2020 is still on track for its previously confirmed release this year. Executives at the company explained that the most recent entry in the franchise, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, has exceeded expectations. This is due in part to ongoing events with the seasons and the standalone battle royale game, Warzone--which currently has over 60 million players. While the details on the next game weren't shared, including any plans for Xbox Series X or PS5, Alegre stated that the CoD franchise remains a key pillar for the company.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
