Shoot-'em-up games aren't as prolific now as they were in the '90s, but developer KeelWorks' new game Cygni: All Guns Blazing looks extremely impressive. Featured in a gameplay trailer during the Future Games Show, the bullet hell game mixes Pixar-style visuals--from a former Pixar artist, no less--with fast movement and dangerous enemies.Cygni is technically a vertical shooter, but you have freedom of movement and can quickly run circles around enemies as you blast away at their shields and avoid projectiles. The trailer featured a bug-like robot enemy that fired both lasers and projectiles at the same time, and it will take extreme coordination to avoid getting hit. For fans of older retro shooters, it looks like it will be second nature, but it will make use of a twin-stick control scheme like the similarly-futuristic Nex Machina.Right now, Cygni is planning to release on PC and Mac. However, the game's developers are also hoping to release it on next-generation systems. You can wishlist the game now on its Steam page.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Future Games Show is all about revealing what's next for the gaming industry and that includes new trailers for upcoming games, like Dustborn. You can watch the announcement trailer below. In the announcement trailer, we get to see main character Pax and the assortment of allies she travels with. It's quite the diverse bunch though I'm partial to the robot driver and their smaller pet-like robot companion. The duo look so cute. This announcement trailer was closely followed by a brief gameplay trailer. A story-driven action adventure game, Dustborn will see you using Pax's super abilities in combat and picking between dialogue and reaction options in conversations.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Revealed at GamesCom 2019, Ghostrunner made a big splash with its vibrant, slick cyberpunk aesthetic and fast gameplay. Blending the style and tone of games like Cyberpunk 2077, Hotline Miami, and Mirror's Edge, it puts you in the role of a resurrected warrior known as the Ghostrunner. The protagonist must navigate a dystopian far-future city to learn more about his past and gain the strength to fight the ruler, known only as The Keymaster.Coming from developers One More Level Games, 3D Realms, and Slipgate Ironworks, Ghostrunner is an incredibly stylish action game set in a cyberpunk dystopia. In the newly revealed gameplay trailer, we saw the reveal of gameplay set in cyberspace, along with some new foes who can use tactics to get the jump on the Ghostrunner. Before the reveal, I got the chance to dive into a new preview build of the game, which showed off the increased scope of the game. With the means to travel between the real world and cyberspace, the protagonist also possesses some fast moves and killer attacks. He's incredibly skilled in the ways of combat, yet the trade-off is that he's also incredibly vulnerable. In a similar vein to Hotline Miami, you can die in one hit, which will send you back to previous checkpoints in each stage. To play Ghostrunner is to always stay on guard while maneuvering throughout the levels. Yet, there's a certain grace in how you're able to dodge enemy bullets, wall-run to your target, and pull of chain attacks against groups of enemies. Blending platforming and fast hack-and-slash gameplay, Ghostrunner presents each battle as a combat puzzle, where you'll need to figure out the most efficient and quick way to dispatch the enemies in the arena.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

It's been about 10 years since Skate 3 and it seems like the calls for Skate 4 have never died out. Well, on July 28, we get the full release of Skater XL which draws much inspiration from the skating sim style. It's been in early access since December 2018 and we've been able to play it, but the official launch will feature more content.During the Future Games Show, we saw the first look at an all new skate park called Easy Day High School. It's a large school ground based on California campuses and incorporates 25 real world skate spots in the level itself. You can see a tour of the location from game director Dain Hedgpeth in the gameplay video below. In Skater XL, the two analogue sticks control the feet of your skater. Instead of predetermined animations to pull of tricks, it's all physics-based with the skateboard reacting to the analogue stick motions.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Last of Us Part II is still a week away from launching, and the general consensus from reviews is that it's going to feel like a long wait. The latest from Naughty Dog, The Last of Us Part II picks up a few years after the PS3 original, following Ellie on a bloody path of revenge. It's bleak, tragic and gut-wrenching, but a tale most reviews suggest you don't miss.Overall critic reception has been incredibly positive, with a few caveats. In GameSpot's own 8/10 spoiler-free review for The Last of Us Part II, editor Kallie Plagge commends the game's strong characters and tense combat, but feels it suffers from pacing issues and uneven analysis of its themes. "In the second half of the game, these exploration issues persist, as do the horrors of combat and violence. But for reasons I can't explain due to spoiler restrictions, the narrative shifts significantly at a certain point, and the context of everything you've done up until then changes along with it. There's a lot I want to say that I'm not allowed to until the game is out, but this half of the game is the reason anything in it works at all. It examines a lot of the violence that happens early on, though not all the violence in general, and it's where the story finds its meaning." Take note that we'll be publishing another review (with the same score) that further explores the story and other spoiler-y elements once the embargo permits us to do so.In the meantime, we've gathered additional reviews below, with the majority laying praise on the game's narrative and personal character writing. A lot of praise has also been given to the game's extensive accessibility options, allowing more players than ever to experience the game in a manner that is comfortable for them. For more reviews, check out our sister site Metacritic to see what other sites had to say. Update: The exact nature and scope of PS5's Spider-Man: Miles Morales remains unclear, but one thing has been straightened out--it is a standalone game, as confirmed by Insomniac's James Stevenson. This is despite the suggestion from a Sony exec that it would be an "expansion" of sorts to the existing Marvel's Spider-Man game. You can read those original comments below. For those who keep asking - #MilesMoralesPS5 is a standalone game. https://t.co/t49Uti06sF — James Stevenson (@JamesStevenson) June 12, 2020Sony introduced its new PS5 titles during its latest event with what looked like a sequel to Insomniac's Spider-Man, which launched in 2018. IO Interactive's next entry in the Hitman franchise was announced during the PS5 reveal event this week. Hitman 3 arrives on current and next-gen consoles as well as PC in January 2021. If the trailer piqued your curiosity in the stealth series, you now have a chance to play an older Agent 47 adventure free of charge. GOG is giving away Hitman: Absolution for free until June 15 at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET.Hitman: Absolution originally released in 2012 and refined the gameplay from previous entries by introducing the intriguing contracts system. Players could create unique objectives within missions for their friends to run through, and then compare to see who executed the objectives with the most proficiency. It earned a 7.5/10 in GameSpot's Hitman: Absolution review. "Even if you have no interest in contracts, however, Hitman: Absolution's campaign is fulfilling on its own," critic Kevin VanOrd wrote. "There are some stumbles here and there--in the AI, in the mission design, and elsewhere. The story, too, hobbles a bit at the end, leaving some narrative gaps that needed filling in. But one thing's for sure: it's good to have Agent 47 back, and he was clearly needed. The greasy world he inhabits was in sore need of cleansing, and it's a pleasure to have so many ways of scraping the human grime off its surface and discarding it like the trash it is."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Paper Mario: The Origami King is surprisingly close to release for a game we just recently learned exists. That condensed time frame means Nintendo has only a little while to detail the upcoming action RPG before its release on July 17, and so a new trailer gives us a broad overview of its systems and features. The trailer shows off some of the new characters who will join Mario on his quest, like Bobby the amnesiac Bob-omb and Professor Toad. Those companions will help Mario on his way, along with Olivia, the sister of the villainous King Olly.It also takes an extended look at the new combat system. It's mostly recognizable from other Paper Mario games, in that you take on a line of enemies with timing-based attacks that can strike multiple foes--like bouncing across them in signature Mario style. But this one also includes a twist on that formula with enemies appearing on a set of rings. You'll be able to arrange the rings before combat starts to strategically position the enemies. Boss battles against the "Legion of Stationary" will also use the ring system, as Mario navigates around the circles to make his way closer for a stronger attack.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

In fact, watching it free online is the only way to see it at this point as it has not been added to the Netflix library. The title refers to the amount of time a Minnesota police officer had his knee on the neck of George Floyd before he died. The death had sparked civil unrest around the world as protestors take a stand against police brutality and the treatment of African Americans. In 8:46, which was filmed a mere 12 days after Floyd's death, Chappelle comments on that situation, as well as the killings of other African Americans. You can watch the entire 8:46 comedy special here.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
