Chris Avellone, a game designer who came to prominence in the '90s following his work on Fallout 2, has been accused of sexual assault and harassment by multiple women, according to Gamasutra. Avellone has worked as a freelance writer after leaving developer Obsidian Entertainment in 2015, 12 years after he co-founded the studio with fellow ex-Black Isle Studio employees. Multiple studios he has recently worked with have now spoken out about his involvement with their projects.Among the studios now addressing his work status is Paradox Interactive, which stated that none of Avellone's contributions to Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 will be included in the game, although it appears this does not stem from the allegations. According to a Paradox representative, Avellone's role in Vampire Bloodlines 2 was "brief" and whatever content he made for the game would not be used in any capacity. "Chris Avellone briefly worked with the Bloodlines 2 writing team early in the development of the game," Paradox said. "Through an iterative creative process, however, none of his contributions remain in the game that Hardsuit Labs is continuing to develop." Paradox didn't specifically comment on the allegations made against Avellone.Dying Light 2 developer Techland, in a statement on Twitter, said it has stopped working with Avellone amid the allegations. "We treat matters of sexual harassment and disrespect with [the] utmost care, and have no tolerance for such behaviors--it applies to both our employees as well as external consultants, Chris among them," Techland said. "This is why, together with Chris Avellone, we've decided to end our cooperation." Avellone had served as a writer on Techland's upcoming zombie-parkour survival game.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The third campaign expansion for Borderlands 3, Bounty of Blood, is scheduled to release on June 25. In a GameSpot Play For All interview, Gearbox creative director Matt Cox revealed that this new DLC would break the pattern of seeing the return of a Borderlands character. You can watch the full interview in the video embedded below."We do have some freedom to try some new things with certain story moments," Cox said. "And we're keeping a lot of the story close to the chest because we built something that we think is pretty special--some surprises here and there. And I just want to say this: When I say surprises, I know a lot of people think, 'Ah, returning characters are coming back, who is it?' But I just want to be very clear that the only returning characters are the Vault Hunters themselves. The planet of Gehenna and all the characters we meet are all brand-new."Both of Borderlands 3's first two campaign DLCs saw the return of fan-favorite Borderlands characters. In Mad Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jack, you teamed up with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel's Timothy and the Lovecraft-themed Love, Guns, and Tentacles reintroduced Borderlands 2's Gaige. Based on the teaser image for the fourth and final DLC expansion, it's assumed DLC 4 will see us reunite with Borderlands 2's Krieg, which would mean that Bounty of Blood will be the only campaign expansion not focused around a returning character.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

On June 25, Borderlands 3 will get its third campaign expansion, Bounty of Blood. In a GameSpot Play For All interview (which is embedded below), Gearbox creative director Matt Cox talked about four new additions that the DLC will implement into Borderlands 3's combat loop."We wanted to take four gameplay objects and throw them into the combat mix," Cox said. "So while we still have that core loop going on, we have different avenues of different styles of combat and ways to negotiate all the craziness in Borderlands."Each of these four new gameplay objects are designed to encourage the player to tackle combat a little bit differently in Bounty of Blood. "So there's something called a traitor weed where if you shoot it, it releases these bugs that turn enemies to your side for eight to nine seconds," Cox said. "And a core-sploder, if you melee it, it will shotgun out high-damage shrapnel. There's also a breezer, which acts sort of like a jump-pad but it soars you into the air by a puff of air. And then there's a telezapper, which is essentially a teleporter--it lets the player travel from point A to point B instantaneously."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Editor's note: You may have seen our spoiler-free The Last of Us Part II review, originally published on June 12, 2020. Due to a strict embargo, we were limited in what aspects of the game we could touch on in that review. While I critiqued the game in full for that embargo, there may be some parts of the review that could use more explanation. Now that the embargo has lifted and the game is now available, I've expanded on my thoughts here; this review has the same arguments and score as the first one and is simply more detailed in my analysis. Note that this review contains spoilers, including one major character death. The Last of Us Part II begins with serious tonal whiplash. One moment, Ellie and her close friend Dina are becoming more than friends in a basement filled with weed plants and Naughty Dog porn puns; the next, Joel is being savagely beaten to death with a golf club. It's the first of many, many gruesome deaths. Some happen whether you want them to or not, in intimate cutscenes that are hard to watch, while others happen just because an NPC got in between you and your objective and killing them was the easiest thing to do. Either way, that brief glimpse of happiness at the beginning is left very much in the dust. But while the scale and severity of death and loss in this game is incredibly high, The Last of Us Part II is more a character study than a musing on the nature of violence. On that front, the story of Ellie, her playable foil Abby, and their quests for revenge and redemption is a gripping and harrowing one, and I found myself deeply emotionally entangled with each woman and her strengths and flaws. The bloodshed is very much a part of that story, but it's far from the most effective one, and it's where the game stumbles a bit.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Nearing the end of SpongeBob's journey under the sea, you're tasked with guiding a ball through a giant Rube Goldberg machine in Mermaid Man's Lair. Once you activate the machine you have to match the ball’s painstakingly slow speed while using SpongeBob's arsenal of bubble abilities to make sure it doesn’t fall over. It’s a simple task in concept, but trying to execute it is some of the most unfun and Sisyphean gameplay in recent memory. In one section of the puzzle, all you need to do is stand on a button, and that button opens a gate for you to bowl a bubble into so you can progress. The only problem is that during SpongeBob's wind-up animation for bowling, he walks forward. That means you fall off of the button, which closes the gate and prevents you from bowling the bubble where you intended, when you intended. These kinds of gameplay barricades are common, and force you to restart and face your demons again, and again, and again.SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated is rarely amusing or challenging, and completing it is an entirely dry experience. It looks nice, and brings back fond memories of a classic cartoon through iconic set pieces and tight voice acting, but its uncomfortable and outdated mechanics make you feel frustratingly trapped and are ultimately outclassed by countless other modern and classic platformers.SpongeBob is a show built on rapid-fire humour and good pacing, but this game misses that mark. The game is a remake of the 2003 cult classic 3D collect-a-thon platformer of the same name. There were three versions of the original: a 2D platformer, a 3D platformer, and one full of minigames. This version took me around 20 hours to play through the main story and get a bunch of bonus collectibles, and from the movement to the jokes, the whole thing feels slow, with none of the comedic timing that makes the show so beloved.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Last Of Us Part 2 is the latest big AAA blockbuster video game from the team at Naughty Dog for the PlayStation 4. So naturally, a lot of different people are probably quite interested in playing it and seeing what the big deal is. Common sense suggests that not all of those people are going to be on the same level when it comes to their experience with stealth and actions games, or video games in general. Not all of those people are going to have the same level of facilities that might help them hear or see an enemy, and some people might need some assistance in manipulating a controller.Thankfully, The Last Of Us Part 2 features a ton of different accessibility options that will let you adjust things like the granular difficulty of the game, how enemies work, how different game mechanics function, and how the game looks, feels, and control. It's all in the service of hopefully making the game comfortable to play no matter what your situation is, at least, as comfortable as a tense, violent, and sometimes horrific thriller can be. Compared to other AAA games, the accessibility options here are much more robust and should let many more people enjoy the story and combat. In this article, we've highlighted the more notable accessibility options in The Last Of Us Part 2, with some explanations on what some of them do. If you're interested in playing the Last of Us Part 2 but want to know whether you can change the game to suit your particular needs, hopefully this article will be of some help.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
