Evidence pointing towards a second next-generation Xbox continues to mount, this time with wording in the latest Game Development Kit SDK notes mentioning profiling modes for Xbox Lockhart.Lockhart is a name that has been attributed to the other next-gen Xbox for some time now, stemming from the Anaconda and Lockhart project titles given to hardware under the banner of Project Scarlett. Anaconda would go on to be named the Xbox Series X, which Microsoft formally revealed in December last year. But since then the company has made no mention of a second SKU--at least not officially. The latest GDK released to Xbox developers, as reported by The Verge, does make specific mention of Lockhart. It lays out a new profiling mode that will allow existing dev kits to mimic the performance conditions of the reportedly lower-powered consoles, including a slightly reduced CPU clock speed, less available RAM (about 7.5GB only), and significantly less GPU power (around four teraflops, as opposed to the 12 teraflops in the Xbox Series X). What that equates to is a testing profile that features the same SSD speeds and similar CPU performance but far less headroom for high resolution gaming.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Warning: Massive spoilers herein, for everything in The Last of Us Part 2. Turn back now.One of the weirder things about The Last of Us Part 2 is the structure of its story. The game repeatedly breaks up Ellie's revenge-fueled rampage through Seattle with flashbacks revealing details about her relationship with Joel. As Ellie searches for Abby and the rest of her friends in the aftermath of Joel's murder, we learn more and more about Ellie's state of mind--and often have the whole story recontextualized in the middle of playing it.The Last of Us Part 2 messes with your understanding quite a bit, and not just by shifting perspectives in the middle of the game to expand on the character of Abby, the focus of Ellie's revenge obsession. The developers also hold back critical information that informs Ellie's motivations. Those flashbacks repeatedly change our perception of Ellie by introducing new information, and the game treats them as plot twists that upend our beliefs about her and her quest.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Office has become the latest NBC sitcom to retroactively remove an instance of blackface from its series on streaming platforms and where it is available for purchase. A new version of 2012's Episode 909, titled "Dwight's Christmas" has been replaced with an edited version removing the problematic scene. Other NBC sitcoms, like Community, Scrubs, and 30 Rock, have opted instead to pull similar episodes. The Office was a mockumentary-style adaptation of the British series sharing the same name, which was adapted for American audiences by Greg Daniels. In a statement issued to news site TheWrap, Daniels writes: "The Office is about a group of people trying to work together with mutual respect despite the inappropriate actions of their boss and assistant manager. The show employed satire to expose unacceptable behavior and deliver a message of inclusion. Today we cut a shot of an actor wearing blackface that was used to criticize a specific racist European practice. Blackface is unacceptable and making the point so graphically is hurtful and wrong. I am sorry for the pain that caused."The new cut will also replace the original version slated for syndication airings on Comedy Central and other Viacom-owned channels.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

One of the biggest sales events of the year for PC gamers is in full swing right now: Steam Summer Sale 2020 kicked off Thursday, June 25, and will run until July 9, offering literally thousands of discounts on some of the platform's best games. It's hard to beat many of those deals right now, and you should definitely check out all of the best Steam games on sale right now, but it's worth keeping in mind that some of these games are cheaper elsewhere. And we're not talking about different launchers like Rockstar, Uplay, or Epic--no, we're talking about officially licensed Steam codes from legit stores like Fanatical and Green Man Gaming. For games like Borderlands 3 or Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, you can save yourself a few bucks by buying from a different store, and you'll still end up with a new game for your Steam library. The standouts include Borderlands 3, which is cheaper for all three editions at Green Man Gaming. The standard edition is $27 ($30 on Steam), while Deluxe edition is down to $36 ($40 on Steam) and the Super Deluxe edition is $45 ($50 on Steam). If you've been looking to get into Civilization VI (which you definitely should, because it's fantastic), the Platinum edition is just $40.53 at Fanatical compared to $47.43 on Steam. With a normal list price of $120, this is the best version to buy as you'll get all the expansions and DLC.Resident Evil 3's PC version is also the cheapest we've seen it at Fanatical right now, selling for $33 as opposed to nearly $40 on Steam. If you held off when the game launched at $60 just a couple of months ago, here's a great chance to nab it for nearly 50% off (a more reasonable price, in my opinion, for the relatively short game).Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Following the wave of recent accusations of sexual abuse against popular Twitch streamers last weekend, the livestreaming platform has begun banning some of these accounts.According to a Kotaku report and corroborated by Twitter account StreamerBans, several prominent streamers--including IamSp00n, Wolv21, BlessRNG, DreadedCone, and WarwitchTV--have been banned this week. Each one of these streamers has been accused of sexual abuse and harassment, ranging from sending sexually explicit messages to known minors to physically taking advantage of women at gaming conventions. [Update: In what appears to be an unrelated action, Twitch has seemingly banned DrDisrepect.]The bans come not long after Twitch issued a statement about plans to thoroughly investigate each allegation. "We are reviewing each case that has come to light as quickly as possible while ensuring appropriate due diligence as we assess these serious allegations," the statement read. "We've prioritized the most severe cases and will begin issuing permanent suspensions in line with our findings immediately."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Following on the heels of networks like NBCUniversal and Hulu--which recently pulled old episodes of TV shows 30 Rock and Scrubs where characters wore blackface--TheWrap reports that Netflix has pulled an episode of Community called "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons" from its streaming service. The self-contained episode takes place over the course of a Dungeons & Dragons campaign where Ken Jeong's character, Ben Chang, plays a drow or dark elf. When Chang shows up to the game wearing skin-covering make-up and a white wig, Yvette Nicole Brown's character Shirley says, "So we're just gonna ignore that hate crime, huh?" It's worth noting that none of the other players are dressed up, and Chang is wearing casual clothes, not drow-appropriate fantasy garb. The scene can still be viewed on the official Community YouTube account.Sony Pictures Television declined to comment regarding the removal of the episode. There also hasn't been yet been comment from Hulu, where this episode can still be streamed, or Community's creator Dan Harmon.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

High-profile Twitch streamer Herschel "Guy" Beahm IV (better known as Dr. Disrespect) has been banned from the livestreaming platform yet again. And this time, it may be permanent, rather than a temporary matter involving a DMCA.It's unclear exactly why or how long Dr. Disrespect will be banned. Dr. Disrespect has not said anything publicly about the situation, and searching for his Twitch account pulls no results. Twitch itself has offered no specific explanation for the move, although some have speculated that it could be the result of a DMCA takedown (of which there has been a flurry recent), which may only result in a temporary ban. We've reached out to Twitch for comment, but were given the same generic statement Twitch already offered the wider community: "As is our process, we take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. These apply to all streamers regardless of status or prominence in the community."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
