Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System is one of the most abundant games around, as it was all but required for any Nintendo fan in the '80s. However, one particular copy of the game is far more special, and it managed to sell for more money than any other video game in history.Still sealed in the plastic after 35 years, a mint condition copy of Super Mario Bros. sold for $114,000 via Heritage Auctions this week. Not only does this beat out the previous record for the game, which fetches exorbitant prices if sealed and in mint condition, but it now has the record for most expensive video game sale in history.A sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. just sold at auction for $114,000, which is a new record for the sale of a single game. Bet the owners of the $100,000 one, which is an earlier printing, feel great today. pic.twitter.com/lVdcla8d19 — Chris Kohler (@kobunheat) July 10, 2020The rare video game market has exploded over the last decade, with prices more than doubling on the top end. Amazon Game Studios' New World is shaping up to be an ambitious project for a division that has struggled thus far, but we'll have to wait a bit longer before playing the MMO. Despite already suffering an earlier delay and being planned for release in just a month, the development team has chosen to bump the game into Spring 2021.Writing in a blog post on the game's official website, studio director Rich Lawrence explained that after play-testers had time with the game over the last few months, they wanted there to be more middle-game and end-game content in order to keep them engaged. As a result, the studio decided it would need significantly more development time to make this happen, but it isn't all bad news if you were hoping to play the game in August.Lawrence added that those who signed up for the beta, pre-ordered the game, or played it in alpha testing will have a special opportunity to play a limited-time version on its originally-scheduled August 25 release date. This will contain the content that was initially going to comprise the game at launch.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

2018's Fe was a breakthrough for developer Zoink. The studio is known for colorful, dark storybook adventure games like Stick it to the Man or Flipping Death, but Fe was a noticeably more whimsical turn. It was also one of the earliest games for the EA Originals indie label, and now, Zoink has a follow-up in the form of Lost in Random. This new adventure incorporates more of a focus on exploration in a city ruled by an evil force, and as the name implies, it all ties into the nature of unpredictability.Revealed at the recent EA Play 2020 online event, Lost in Random focuses on the story of Even, a resident of the city of Random, a place where an individual's station in life is decided at the age of 12 by a sacred dice. Eventually, Even discovers another magical, sentient dice that allows her to change her fate, and the duo goes on the run within the city. As they evade guards and other villains looking to take the opposing dice for themselves, Even and her partner, Dicey, learn of the city's inner workings and what it means for everyone in the town of Random.Lost in Random is described as a gothic fairytale, which is certainly in keeping with Zoink's previous efforts. With a story written by Ryan North, who worked on the Adventure Time tv-series and Marvel's The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl comic, it has a style that seems to be influenced by the likes of children's author Roald Dahl and the works of animation studio Laika. Visually, it's like watching a stop-motion animated film like Coraline or The Nightmare Before Christmas. In the game's trailer shown at EA Play we got to see some familiar elements of platforming and action gameplay, with the protagonist using Dicey to attack enemies and maneuver through the city. An aspect of that we learned more of in our chat was progression, which is akin to a board game, often guided by an unpredictable element that decides where you go next.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Announced earlier this week, the Devolver Direct has revealed our first look at gameplay for Shadow Warrior 3, the latest over-the-top first-person shooter from developer Flying Wild Hog.The gameplay is full of what you'd expect from a Shadow Warrior sequel: lots of blood, loads of weapons, and gruesome executions. But there are also new features you can look forward to, like expanded mobility options with a grappling hook that looks like it will work extremely well with your double jumps, wall-running, and air-dashing antics.Amongst all the blood and guts there's bright confetti and a strangely jolly spirit to it all, which makes the excessive gore all the stranger and more enticing. There's no confirmed release date for Shadow Warrior 3 yet, but you can expect a release sometime in 2021 for PC.Info from Gamespot.com

Revealed during the Devolver Showcase, Skeleton Crew Studio's Olija is set to launch for PC and Nintendo Switch later in 2020. A demo is available now on Steam, giving you a slice of its 2D action to try ahead of its release. Before its reveal, I had the chance to dive into the game with an exclusive demo for GameSpot, learning about it's crunchy combat, ambiguous and mysterious themes, and the cursed harpoon at the center of it all.Olija is a 2D action platformer with equal measures of fast-paced combat and small but clever puzzles. Core to both is your main weapon, a cursed harpoon that you can throw in any cardinal direction with a button press and return to your hands with another. Your harpoon can lodge itself in the guts of enemies and certain points of the environment, letting you pull off a quick and satisfying dash to its position. It feels great to chain together throwing and recalling the harpoon as your soar through the air, and the game encourages you to get comfortable with it. Early enemy encounters are limited to just a few foes at a time, but as you progress, they become more complex ballets where you have to balance positioning and aggression in equal measure. Groups of enemies will quickly overwhelm and kill you, but using your harpoon to fling yourself to a distant enemy--both giving you space and letting you kill them off effortlessly--feels incredibly satisfying.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Serge Hascoet, Yannis Mallat, and Cecile Cornet--three senior executives at Ubisoft--are stepping down amidst widespread accusations of abuse and promotion of a toxic work culture levelled at the company and these specific individuals. In a statement issued to GameSpot, Ubisoft confirmed the departures, saying that Hascoet has "chosen to resign from his position as chief creative officer, effective immediately." Although he may not be as public-facing as other Ubisoft executives, Hascoet held significant influence within the company, essentially having the power to green light game development projects and also make key creative decisions. Of course, this also meant that he had significant influence over staff, which numerous people have indicated he abused to the point of encouraging a toxic work environment. The role vacated by Hascoet will be taken up by Yves Guillemot, co-founder and current CEO of Ubisoft, in the interim.Yannis Mallat, who was managing director of Ubisoft's Canadian studios, will be stepping down and leaving Ubisoft too. Ubisoft statement reads, "The recent allegations that have come to light in Canada against multiple employees make it impossible for him to continue in this position." Much like Hascoet, Mallat is accused of enabling a culture of abuse that created a pervasively toxic working environment.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Actor Elijah Wood, who played Frodo in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film series, has sounded off on Amazon's new TV show based on Middle-earth. He told IndieWire that he's "super fascinated" with what Amazon is doing, but he believes calling it "Lord of the Rings" is misleading."They're calling it 'The Lord of the Rings,' but I think that's slightly misleading. From what I understand, the material they are working on exists chronologically further back in history in the lore of Lord of the Rings or Middle-earth than any characters represented in Lord of the Rings," he said. "It sounds more Silmarillion era. Not to get nerdy, but it's the Second Age of Middle-earth."Wood, who stressed that he has no inside knowledge about Amazon's series, said he's "curious" about the stories the new Lord of the Rings show may choose to tell. He added that he's happy that it's filming in New Zealand because that will give it an element of continuity with the film series, which also filmed there.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Remothered: Broken Porcelain, one of 2020's big upcoming horror games, has been delayed. The game, which showed off debut gameplay footage and announced an August release date just last month, will now arrive on October 20 instead. In an update on publisher Modus Games' website, community manager Luke Croft has announced that developer Stormind Games is delaying the release to "deliver the experience you deserve." As with many recent delays, COVID-19 is to blame: "Having additional time for polish and to accommodate unanticipated longer timeframes due to the current global situation will help us do exactly that."As Croft points out, this means the game will now launch closer to Halloween, which is fitting. It will now launch on the same day as Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga--a game it shares little in common with.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
