It appears there could be some changes in the works for Microsoft's Xbox Live Gold program, as the company has discontinued year-long subscription plans. As of now, only monthly and three-month Xbox Live Gold subscriptions are available from Microsoft's website, and this change was not accidental. As confirmed by Microsoft to True Achievements, the company has officially delisted the 12-month Xbox Live Gold plan. These were available for $60, while month-long plans are $10 and three-month plans are $25. Because of this, it will apparently cost about $100 to get a year of Xbox Live Gold now, which is just slightly less than a Game Pass Ultimate subscription that bundles a year of Xbox Live Gold with a year of Xbox Game Pass.Xbox Game Pass has been one of the best values in gaming since its launch back in 2017, and it now receives all first-party Microsoft games on the same day as their official release. It will also include access to Project xCloud starting this fall, but Microsoft hadn't made any indication it would be moving away from the Xbox Live Gold program. By increasing the price of the service, it could be encouraging more people to simply make the jump to Game Pass, instead.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Fae Tactics, an upcoming tactical strategy game developed by independent studio Endless Fluff, is launching on July 31. The New York-based developer is trying to implement a menu-less experience where the majority of combat happens on screen and not behind a series of text boxes.Coming to the Humble Store and Steam, Fae Tactics emulates popular games like Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Final Fantasy Tactics. Players take the role of a character named Peony as she "summon[s] allies, cast[s] spells, and befriends a motley crew of characters" according to the game's' Steam page. Players can build their own team of fae, magical beings with elemental powers, and level them up over the course of the game's story.“Fire Emblem is very simple though, all the info is conveyed by the units type and where they are on the map,†Kyron Ramsey, one half of Endless Fluff, said in an interview with Gamasutra. “But in Tactics you have to scroll through a series of menus to get all that info. Our approach is a combination of both.â€Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

If you've ever had a friend who prefers inverted sticks pass you their controller, you know just how disorienting a new control setup can be. If you're looking for a new way to play shooters on a controller, however, Steam has added a galaxy-brained new option for you, and it's a bit weird.First innovated by programmer Jibb Smart, the "Flick Stick" control scheme maps the right stick into a 360-degree scheme, meaning that pressing left on the stick will always turn you 90 degrees to your left, down a full 180, and so on. The vertical aspect of aiming is then performed by tilting your gyroscope-enabled controller, similar to the tilt controls in the Splatoon series. If that all sounds a bit confusing, check out the above video, as it's the kind of thing that makes much more sense once you see it in action."Flick Stick" controls now implemented in Steam beta https://t.co/WmUsz3bl46maps analog stick to 360 degree turning with gyro for better aiming on a controller. video demonstration: https://t.co/Ne5OxLUoFS pic.twitter.com/asvd0sniN4 — Wario64 (@Wario64) July 17, 2020If you'd like to try this unorthodox control scheme, go into Steam's control settings and bind the right joystick to Flick Stick, and the Gyro to Mouse. Again, you'll need a controller with a gyroscope to try this out, so if you have a DualShock 4 lying around, that's probably the best option. Neither the popular Xbox 360 nor the Xbox One controllers have gyroscopes.Info from Gamespot.com

This one only runs for this weekend, until Sunday, July 19, and it features a variety of different Water-type Pokemon, including Shiny Wailord.Throughout the event, Kingler, Sharpedo, Pyukumuku, Jellicent, and Mantine will appear in Max Raids much more frequently than normal. Wailord will also be a common sight, and you'll have a chance to encounter a Shiny variant of it in five-star Raids. You'll need to be pretty persistent to find one, however, as it has lower odds of spawning than the other featured Pokemon. The Sea Pokemon Max Raid event ends at 4:59 PM PT / 7:59 PM ET / 11:59 PM UTC on July 19. Before the Pokemon can start appearing in your game, you'll need to refresh your Raid dens. Deadline is reporting that Netflix's adaptation of the Mark Greaney novel series The Gray Man, which will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, has set a record-breaking budget upwards of $200 million. Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans are attached to co-star in the film, which will be the Russo brothers' first major blockbuster since 2018's Avengers Endgame. The intention, Deadline says, is to "create a new franchise with a James Bond-level of scale."The source material should offer plenty to tee that up, and there's already a proven track record in Greaney. He co-authored Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan novels, and after Clancy's death in 2013, he took over as the sole author for the series. Jack Ryan, before being adapted for an Amazon Prime series in 2018 starring John Krasinski (The Office), has had his adventures in books turned into movies, TV shows, and video games dating back to 1987's Patriot Games, starring Harrison Ford.Like the Gray Man novels, the movie will be an action-thriller duel "between killers as Gentry (Gosling) is hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Evans), a former cohort of Gentry's at the CIA." The expectation is that Gosling will return to play Gentry in further, though unannounced, entries in an adapted series.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Game Awards show host Geoff Keighley, during his PlayStation 5 DualSense hands-on preview, sat down with PlayStation senior vice president Eric Lempel, where they briefly discussed both current-gen and next-gen games and hardware. It seems that, though the PS5 is still on track to launch this holiday season, the PS4's life cycle isn't over just yet. When asked about "exclusive experiences" designed specifically for the PlayStation 5 and how that development pipeline might affect the PlayStation 4's gaming output, Lempel assured fans that the current-gen system still has "a ton of life" in it."PlayStation 4 is a big part of everything we do and it will continue to be a big part of everything we do," Lempel said. "There's a lot more to come on PlayStation 4. I think, most recently, we're seeing some of the greatest titles this generation have released in recent weeks, but that will continue. And, again, PlayStation 5 is the next-generation product, but again, we've got a lot to come for people on PlayStation 4. [There's] still a ton of life in that product."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Major League Baseball is starting up next week, but the players will be in empty stadiums due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. They'll still get to hear the roar of the crowd, though, as stadium engineers have rigged up the system to play sounds from MLB The Show.ESPN reports that engineers have set about 75 different effects and reactions, so players can get a big reaction when they score a home run or simulated disappointment when they strikeout. The sounds are borrowed from Sony's San Diego Studios, which has been capturing the sounds over the course of several baseball seasons. The move imitates one that European soccer leagues have used with the FIFA series.MLB executive vice president for strategy Chris Marinak said they made sure the sounds would be able to match the game's action, so that it wouldn't be distracting.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

With the recent release of Superhot: Mind Control Delete, Steam has discounted the entire franchise. If you owned the original Superhot on Steam prior to Mind Control Delete's release, then you've already got yourself a free copy of it. However, if you're new to the series, this is the perfect opportunity to get into one of the best indie franchises out there. The Complete Superhot Bundle is currently $31.48, down from its regular price of $75. It comes with Superhot, Superhot VR, and Superhot: Mind Control Delete. You can also snag each individual game at a discount if you're only interested in buying one. Superhot is $10 and Superhot VR is $17, while Steam keys for Superhot: Mind Control Delete are $13.74 at Fanatical--that's more than $10 off the brand-new game. The Superhot games are first-person shooters that revolve around a simple concept: Time only moves when you do. Enemies rush you as you move around the level but freeze in place when you stop moving. This means when you shoot a bullet, you have to make sure your desired target is going to be in the bullet's trajectory--this also means you'll be dodging bullets in slow-motion as if you're in The Matrix. You can also utilize bottles, bats, and other objects and weapons to defeat your crimson enemies.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Like Assassin's Creed before it, Prince of Persia is becoming a VR escape room game that's only available in certain locations. The first screenshots of Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time have emerged, and it has the same aesthetic that the franchise has used since its heyday in the mid-2000s with the Sands of Time trilogy.First screenshots of Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time (location-based VR Escape Room) https://t.co/7wJT3ymf6f pic.twitter.com/DPrmJBMe8I — Wario64 (@Wario64) July 17, 2020Dagger of Time was previously announced to feature the return of Kaileena, a character from Warrior Within and Two Thrones. The escape room will support two, three, or four players, with the puzzles adjusting depending on the number of participants. As its subtitle implies, one player will control the Dagger of Time, which will allow them to rewind, pause, and fast-forward the action, as in previous games in the franchise. As many long-suffering PoP fans well know, this will be the first entry in the series in over a decade, since 2010's Forgotten Sands concluded the Sands of Time cycle. The 2008 reboot of the franchise--taking place in a different world than Sands of Time--never received any sort of follow-up, despite fairly strong reviews. Recently, footage of a cancelled Prince of Persia game from 2012 emerged on YouTube, and it resembled the combat-heavy gameplay of the original God of War series.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Crysis Remastered was delayed earlier this month for most of its release platforms, just moments ahead of its first gameplay reveal. Although there's still no word on when to expect them, Saber Interactive is still launching the port on the Nintendo Switch this month. If you ever doubted Crysis could run on a portable platform, the first gameplay trailer will quickly convince you otherwise. A new tech-focused trailer shows the graphically demanding 2007 shooter running on the Nintendo Switch, at a native 720p resolution and capped at 30fps. The gameplay looks smooth, with a lot of action on display showcasing some of the port's enhancements. You can check it out below.Given the Switch's hardware limitations, it would've been safe to assume that some of Crysis Remastered's more demanding features would be left out. And that might still be the case, but the inclusion of dynamic lighting and a voxel-based global illumination effect do a lot to enhance the lush tropical scenes of its setting.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
