You may or may not know this by now, but playing games on your phone is actually good, as senior editor Edmond Tran wrote last year, and these days, there are some fantastic mobile games out there that are just as worth your time as the latest AAA release on console. Fortunately, they're usually not that expensive either, but right now, you can save a few bucks on some of the best games available on the Apple App Store. Most notably, you can grab Florence for $2 (normally $3), a nice 33% discount on this critically acclaimed interactive story. One of the best mobile games of 2018 (and just in general), Florence tells the story of 25-year-old Florence Yeoh and her whirlwind romance with a man named Krish. It's a beautiful, emotional story that is told over about 40 minutes or so, and you interact with it in unique and clever ways, including one mechanic where you fit puzzle pieces together that becomes a metaphor for their relationship. Florence has since launched on Nintendo Switch as well, but it's one game that I'd actually recommend playing on your phone over the Switch due to its gameplay and certain story moments. It's also four bucks cheaper on mobile, so there's that. See Florence on App Store Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Project Athia, Square Enix’s upcoming PlayStation 5 and PC title, will be an open-world game according to the publisher. Described as a "thrilling other-worldly adventure" when it was revealed in June, Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda provided more details on Project Athia’s design and how the PlayStation 5 will allow for more detailed rendering of its world."The game Project Athia, which we will release for PS5, is an open-world style game in which users can freely move around the game world," Matsuda said to Weekly Tokyo Keizai Plus via a Gematsu translation. "PS5 dramatically improves video technology, such as with the implementation of light-reflecting 'ray-tracing' technology.""Compared to what you see on PC, it is nearly identical. By utilizing these special traits, we’re able to create incredibly precise imagery. We still plan on developing well-balanced games tailored to a platform’s traits, including smartphone and cloud-based games, but we will never stop developing for high-end platforms such as PS5. Because these things are packed with the best technology."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

If you're looking for something to watch on Amazon, and you want to plan your August binge-watching schedule now--something I'm sure everyone does--then you are in luck. The list for Amazon's releases in August have arrived, and you can check out everything coming below, along with a few recommendations. On August 10, the Tom Hardy-starring Capone arrives to the service. The film follows the notorious gangster in his late-40s before his death, as dementia takes hold over him. Capone becomes haunted by his criminal past while the FBI lays in wait, trying to figure out where the mobster has hid his wealth. Reviews have been mixed, but the film seems to be entertaining regardless. If you're familiar with the kid's TV show Dora: The Explorer, then you shouldn't sleep on Dora And The Lost City Of Gold, which arrives on August 3. The live-action adventure comedy follows Dora looking for, well, the lost city of gold. It may not have been on your radar, but the film is a ton of fun and feels a bit like a modern-day Indiana Jones.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

When Mario, our favorite mushroom-mashing plumber, made his way to 3D in Super Mario 64, he infamously did it without his loyal brother Luigi. The green-clad sidekick never made it to the game, despite accompanying his brother through adventures since 1983. His absence, and ways to make him appear in-game, have become somewhat of an urban legend. But after the recent Nintendo leak, it seems our missing Mario Brother has been found after all.25 years later, fans have pulled apart development files for Luigi's models that were part of the leak and are now showcasing them eagerly online.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Director Christopher Nolan's new film Tenet finally, for real, has a release date that is seemingly likely to stick. Recent rumors from last week indicated that the film could launch internationally before a domestic release, and that is true: Tenet will debut internationally on August 26 before opening in select cities in North America on September 2. In all, the movie will be launching at the end of August in 70 international territories, including Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, and the United Kingdom. This news comes after Warner Bros. recently indicated it would be shelving a traditional release for the film altogether amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It's unclear how long Tenet will be in American theaters, and for how long. This is the third time Tenet has been delayed and then had another release date set, but these plans seem plausible as there are also reports from Deadline that a 10th anniversary screenings of Nolan's Inception are also in the works. Nolan, a staunch advocate for film as a medium and it to remain a theater experience long before COVID-19, has said that Tenet is "most designed for the audience experience, the big screen experience."Despite how much has been written about and anticipating Tenet's release, not much is known about the film itself. Its cast includes David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Kenneth Branagh, and Michael Caine. The plot reportedly is about spies who are tasked with preventing World War III with time travel. A trailer for Tenet recently premiered inside of Fortnite.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The campaign went live at 9 AM PST today to help fund Suikoden and Suikoden II writer and director Yoshitaka Murayama's next project. Kickstarter crashed for about 45 minutes during the campaign. The initial goal funds the development of a PC release; however, there is a stretch goal at $1,000,000 to bring the game to all major consoles. Toy behemoth Hasbro has announced that its new G.I. Joe movie Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, initially eyeing an October 2020 release date, has been delayed into 2021 due to COVID-19's impact on the company's bottom line. After posting second-quarter financial results that missed Wall Street forecasts for earnings and revenue, Hasbro Chairman and CEO Brian Goldner told the Hollywood Reporter that the company is "working out the specifics with Paramount." The film is a joint production between Hasbro and Paramount Pictures.Snake Eyes will be the third installment and also a reboot of the G.I. Joe film series, which kicked off with 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Snake Eyes has a script from Evan Spiliotopoulos, who worked on Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast and The Huntsman: Winter's War. Robert Schwentke (R.I.P.D., The Time Traveler's Wife) is the director. The movie reportedly stars Henry Golding in the titular role, and Andrew Koji will portray Storm Shadow. All that's really known as of this writing about the movie's plot is it will serve as an origin story for the character Snake Eyes, who is the G.I. Joe team's original commando--whose history and even basic biographical information have remained from the very beginning unclear or classified. In the original comics, his voice has never been heard and his face has never been seen since the character was disfigured and his vocal cords were permanently injured after a helicopter attack.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The recent Nintendo leak has offered up a treasure trove of gaming hypotheticals, including numerous cancelled projects, Luigi in Mario 64, and prototype character designs. But one of the more peculiar finds is a Pokemon MMO that never saw the light of day.The idea of a Pokemon MMO isn't what makes the cancelled project interesting. Instead, it's the fact that it was being developed for the Game Boy Advance, with online features offloaded onto a version you would hook up to a PC to play. The game would've been based off Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green, with online elements borrowing from Pokemon Coliseum. It was in development at Chinese studio iQue, which has since closed their doors. The game was slated to launch initially in 2005 and eventually grow into its online component by 2006, but for unknown reasons Nintendo decided to pull the plug on it.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The screen went dark for a moment at the end of Grounded's reveal trailer. A rumbling growl could be heard before a gigantic spider popped on screen. It was a jump scare that was more effective than Obsidian intended it to be."We watched through a bunch of reactions there was huge number of people that was not 'oh gosh, that's scary,' it was 'oh gosh, I can't play this,'" Obsidian technical game designer Jerrick Flores tells GameSpot. "That was a big red flag."It was at that point that Flores and others on the Grounded team decided to build and arachnophobia mode so that players who were sensitive to spiders could still play. It wouldn't be like the arachnophobia modes other games (Satisfactory by Swedish studio Coffee Stain replaces spiders with a picture of a cats face) or the Insect Begone mod created by the Skyrim community that removes spiders from the game altogether. Obsidian wanted the accessibility option to be client side since Grounded is a cooperative game—it needed to only affect players who chose the option.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

It's hard to believe, but it's nearly August, and the holidays will be here before we know it. Major retailers are already anticipating the busy holiday shopping season and making changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One major change: Stores that would normally stay open on Thanksgiving Day will be closing their doors. Walmart confirmed as much last week; now, Target is the second major retailer to announce all of its locations will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.Additionally, Target confirmed that its "biggest holiday deals" (read: Black Friday) will be available starting in October, much earlier than usual, to help avoid the huge crowds that flood stores near the end of November. Plus, all of its best holiday deals will be available online as well as in stores so that you don't even have to shop in person at all. This is a major change from previous years, when some of the best doorbuster discounts have been in-store only. Walmart's press release didn't mention its deals strategy for this holiday shopping season, but we do expect (and hope) that more stores will follow Target's lead and offer all of their Black Friday deals online.Target is also offering pickup and same-day delivery services for an additional 20,000 products, which will be a great option for those looking to avoid the crowds while also picking up that new game or console day of.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Imagine being able to take back every mistake you make, instantly, reliving each moment over and over until it plays out as you hoped. In less astute hands, it could feel like an exercise in trial and error. In Desperados 3, however, it unfolds in masterful fashion, providing ample scope for you to dream up a multitude of creative plans alongside the ability to reset the board in a flash should the plan fail. It's a rapidfire process of forming an hypothesis, testing it and tossing it aside. By encouraging experimentation at every turn, Desperados 3 proves a stealth tactics game where invention thrives.Stealth games can often degenerate into a loop of quick-saving and quick-loading. Desperados 3 is built around that loop, an aspect reinforced by a tutorial which instructs you on how to quick-save and quick-load before it tells you how to deal with an enemy. It's hammered home by regular pop-up notifications informing you of the time since you last quick-saved. You can customise this reminder--tweaking the delay or disabling it entirely--but the fact the default setting is to nudge you every 60 seconds ought to stress the importance of quick-saving.Archetypal gunslinger John Cooper and his friends are rather fragile, even on the normal difficulty setting, while the cadres of thugs, gunwomen and assorted rifle-toting outlaws they find themselves up against are very much of the "shoot first, ask questions later" mindset. So when a plan heads south--as even the most meticulously observed ones are wont to do, usually when one of the gang gets spotted or occasionally a carelessly discarded body is found--it's very much a case of the quick-load and the dead.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

There may be some confusion about Phantasy Star Online 2's future following New Genesis's reveal, which is slated to hit PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in 2021. However, publisher Sega has shared a new video confirming that the two universes will coexist. While New Genesis will serve as a "complete redesign" of the traditional Phantasy Star Online 2 experience, the expansion will not outright replace PSO2 in any way. In fact, the New Genesis expansion will operate as a compliment to Phantasy Star Online 2, allowing you to play both universes with the same character. Unfortunately, certain elements--like level, class skills, and Photon Arts--will not transfer between universes."You can continue to enjoy the original PSO2 even after PSO2: NGS has been released," developer Online R&D said. "Accounts that have been playing PSO2 will be able to hop between PSO2: NGS and PSO2."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
