Fight Crab, a game about crustaceans fighting other crustaceans, begins innocently enough. You start as a plucky young snow crab, defending his rock pool from other, invading crabs. The next thing you know, that same snow crab is now kaiju-sized, fighting in city streets against a similarly kaiju-sized lobster wielding a giant knife and revolver pistol. Things, incredibly, only escalate from there. What if crabs had weapons? That's the ridiculous notion that Fight Crab bases itself on, and it commits to it wholeheartedly with an involved combat system and a variety of scenarios that grow increasingly bizarre. The game often exceeds your expectations of what you might anticipate from a game that pits these hard-shelled creatures against one another. At times the joke can start to wear thin, but it's hard to forget the delightful, laugh-out-loud surprises it continues to throw at you.A third-person, physics-based fighting game, Fight Crab is reliant on your ability to flip your shelled opponents onto their backs and make sure they don't get up. Damage dealt by striking with your claws, environmental objects, or weapons is tracked by a percentage meter, and higher percentages make it harder for crabs to regain their upright posture--a system that draws from Super Smash Bros., and one that allows for the occasional, unbelievable near-death comeback and matches that come down to the wire.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Retro throwbacks that take inspiration from classics of a bygone gaming era can be found all over the various download storefronts that exist in today's console landscape. Taking inspiration from past masterpieces is one thing, but doing it well--and making a game that feels fresh and fun in the process--is another. Panzer Paladin borrows ideas and aesthetics from a variety of NES classics ranging from Blaster Master to Zelda II, but it mixes them all (with a dash of mech anime styling for flavor) into a curious new concoction. The result is a fun and engaging adventure that 2D action fans old and new would do well to check out.Panzer Paladin's premise and visual style feel lifted straight out of a cult-classic retro game from the early '90s. As spunky, jump-suited android lady Flame, you are tasked with piloting your giant sentient mech exosuit buddy Grit in an effort to fight off a massive race of bloodthirsty, war-hungry interstellar monstrosities called the Ravenous. You trek through seventeen stages, some on Earth and some in the Ravenous's stronghold, filled to bursting with enemies, hazards, hidden treasures, and lots of weapons from the aliens' corrupted forge. And by lots of weapons, I really do mean lots of weapons. Hammers, knives, lances, daggers, swords, staves, hockey sticks, giant bones, ultra-hard frozen ice pops--every level in Panzer Paladin is rich with a variety of implements to cut, poke, and smash with. While Grit's fists pack a mighty punch, weapons are the way to go for any serious combat, adding range and power to the mech's strikes. However, the intensity of battle wears weapons down, and all of them will eventually break--but that's okay, because there are always plenty of new and unique armaments to be found from defeated enemies and hidden away in walls and crevices that you can stockpile.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Sometimes, video games help you to lose yourself in their worlds and stories, using the power of interactivity to bring you into the life of a character and to provide you with the opportunity to experience at least some version of their emotions. And sometimes, you get "Press F to Pay Respects."If you're somehow not familiar with a video game joke that became a pretty widespread meme, the "Press F" moment came about in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Early in the story, tragedy strikes, and the protagonist character attends a friend's funeral. As the scene plays out, Advanced Warfare throws some interactivity your way to add some gravitas, prompting you to hit a button to enable your character to express their grief. If you're playing on PC, the default key for honoring the dead in this case is "F."It's not even Call of Duty's fault--lots of games have had very similar moments with very similar prompts, or have allowed you to do dumb video game things at the exact wrong times--but the instance in Advanced Warfare just feels particularly goofy, probably because it appears in such a high-profile game. Here you are at a digital funeral for a fictional character in what the game hopes is an emotional, poignant moment, but a passing attempt at adding some interactivity to the scene actually works to completely undermine it. "Press F to Pay Respects" does nothing but scream at you that you're playing a video game, and that the video game is ham-fistedly trying to get you involved in something so quintessentially human as mourning, and failing at it. It's a glaring reminder that a lot of AAA games just don't have a good idea of how to make it feel natural to interact with the world in a way that's not about killing stuff.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

We know we will see multiplayer prior to launch, but without a timetable or exact date. Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently said that Halo Infinite's multiplayer was "special" and the team worked alongside professional Halo players to fine-tune the experience. In a recent blog post, 343 Industries developers said that Halo Infinite might not have a multiplayer beta due to the difficulties of working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the same post, 343 Industries said that the team is going with a more 'classic' art style for the game, but the studio has heard the complaints that the game looks "flat, simplistic, and plastic-like," after the single-player demo was criticized for its visual fidelity. The studio also said that the game will not feature real-money loot boxes the way Halo 5: Guardians did, but the game is expected to have microtransactions in some form.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Street Fighter 5 has improved tremendously over the last few years, evolving into a premiere competitive fighter with a great roster of characters. If you've yet to try the game for yourself, you'll have a chance to do so for a full two weeks, and the trial version features all 40 characters. That's more than you'll be able to master in two weeks, for sure, making it the perfect chance to get hooked on the game before you buy it. Discussed during the Japanese Fighting Game Publishers Roundtable, there will be a free-to-play version of Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition available starting on August 5. It will run for about two weeks and features all of the game's characters. Because of this, you'll be able to start learning who your favorites are instead of being limited to only a few before deciding on a purchase.Street Fighter 5 took a different approach to updated releases than the series has in the past. This keeps the community together, though the game has still never come to Xbox One.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Fortnite's battle royale map got a big overhaul at the start of the season due to "The Device" event causing a massive flood, and it has continued evolving ever since. In its latest update, Epic Games added an area previously hidden underwater, and it appears to essentially be the lost city of Atlantis. Just don't expect anything too elaborate. This has to fit within the wider battle royale map, after all. Technically, this area is called Coral Castle, and it is located north of the Sweaty Sands area. Previously covered with water from the flood, it has receded enough to show off a glorious and very small hidden city. The centerpiece here is a breathtaking castle, as you can see in the video below. There are plenty of points for cover in the castle, making it ideal for defending against multiple enemies late in a match. From the video, it appears the castle was originally called "Carl." This is almost certainly a reference to the popular Walking Dead meme.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

First shown during Digital Extreme's TennoCon 2020 livestream, Warframe's Heart of Deimos expansion introduces a dark storyline set in the game’s next open world location on Mars' moon. In this large-scale update to the online action-RPG, you'll face off against new hordes of the Infested who have taken control of the moon Deimos, wresting control from the lost Entrati family. You'll find new armaments of power while you're exploring the moon. These include a customizable mech suit as well as the new ability to enhance your characters even more than before. However, it will cost you. Before its debut at TennoCon, GameSpot had the opportunity to check out an early look at the Heart of Deimos expansion. The new content will be open to all players who have unlocked Mars on the star map, allowing newcomers and veterans to jump into the new story focusing on the Infested control of Mars' moon. Encompassing the surface as well as a large, procedurally generated network of underground caverns, you'll explore a section of Deimos known as the Cambion Drift to aid the remnants of the Entrati family, while also unlocking the true power of the Helminth, which has been tucked away on your ship.In addition to a new open world, the expansion will add another layer to the game's extensive customization systems. One of the more surprising new additions to the update is the means to expand your Frame's powers by granting it abilities from different characters. For instance, if you want to give Volt's shock ability to Mag, you can do so by feeding Volt to the Helminth located on your ship. Doing so will permanently sacrifice your current Volt, and the only way to get Volt back would be to craft a new one. It's a tough choice, especially for long-time players who have an extensive stable of Frames to pick from. Still, it presents an interesting opportunity to heighten your favorite Frame's attributes.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
