Nintendo is recruiting level designers to make 2D action games, according to Nintendo Life. Nintendo tweeted out a job listing on it's Japanese account, which links to a job asking for applicants with experience creating "specifications for objects placed in game courses." The potential hire would work in the Nintendo Tokyo office.[プロジェクト採用]「新作2Dアクションゲームのレベルデザイナー」(東京勤務)の募集要項を掲載しました。https://t.co/uAz7IZnUeV pic.twitter.com/p1hNU2xUvq — 任天堂株式会社 (@Nintendo) August 6, 2020The image shows screenshots from Yoshi's Crafted World, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, and Super Mario Maker 2. Nintendo does not have very many games that are currently announced, limited to Metroid Prime 4, Pikmin 3 Deluxe, and a Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel. There have been rumors of the 3D Mario games getting remastered, but that has not been confirmed by Nintendo. The job listing could be for a new entry in one Nintendo's existing IPs or a brand new game all together. There is a job listing for a 3D level designer on the same page as well, so Nintendo is looking to release both styles of titles at some point in the future. Info from Gamespot.com

With coronavirus raging and a bona fide live game hit on its hands, it seemed likely Activision would drop teasers for its next Call of Duty game within the structure of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone. Now it appears that's happening, as a mysterious new message introduced in Season 5 looks like something out of Black Ops. We could very well be going back to the mystery-filled Cold War era games we've seen a decade ago. The numbers, Mason! What do they mean?Players are randomly receiving blurry, glitched messages saying "Know Your History." GameSpot confirmed the message during a Warzone session, but it appears so quickly you could easily miss it. Another part of the glitched message appeared to show a message in Russian. The allusion to history could be a reference to the rumored Black Ops: Cold War. That would set it in a historical context, and Black Ops is known for its mind-bending plot elements that revolve around false memories and other light sci-fi elements.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Remedy Entertainment's Control bears some resemblance to its earlier game Alan Wake, and in the new expansion AWE, that resemblance gets much more overt as we see how the two games are actually connected. It's the first step in establishing what the studio is calling the Remedy Connected Universe, and as it turns out, it's working on a new game that will also take place there. This information was shared by Remedy's creative director Sam Lake, who has written several of the studio's biggest games and served as the literal face of Max Payne way back when."What took place in 2010 in Alan Wake is one of the cases that the Federal Bureau of Control has been investigating," Lake said. "The AWE expansion is the first official Remedy Connected Universe crossover event, bringing more Alan Wake lore into Control." Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Every four years, Americans head to the voting booth to cast their ballots for the next President of the United States. Typically, voters lean Republican or Democrat, but this time around, voters will have a new party to choose from--the Gamer party. You might have seen that choice manifested online with the Gamer party's preferred candidate for president: Ace Watkins. The Watkins candidacy is mostly a presence on social media, using its Twitter and Facebook accounts to make promises to deal with gamer-centric national issues. "During this crisis, the president must use the Defense Production Act to ensure that every Americ. (sic) has access to a Nintendo Switch," the Watkins Twitter account recently posted. The beta for Marvel's Avengers didn't particularly blow me away, but I did enjoy the snippet of story I got to see. Specifically, I love Kamala Khan, who's the focal point for the campaign. Not only does she have my favorite combat mechanics, but she injects both a wonderful playfulness and human element into the story.Kamala is a nerdy teenager who likes to tell cheesy jokes, but she's also struggling to come to terms with being labeled as a freak for having the superpower to enlarge and stretch her body (which she calls embiggening). Marvel's Avengers is about Earth's Mightiest Heroes learning to become a team again, but the beta also showcases that it's just as much the origin story for an ordinary girl who becomes the second Ms. Marvel--a symbol of inspiration for Inhumans and teenage superheroes. This is the aspect of Marvel's Avengers that I'm most intrigued to see unfold, and that largely comes from actor Sandra Saad's performance as Kamala.Saad does a wonderful job bringing the young hero to life and, after playing through the Marvel's Avengers beta, I got to sit down and talk with her about her performance, how she prepared for the role, and what someone like Kamala means to both her and the wider superhero fan community. I was immediately surprised by how much Saad already is so much like Kamala--I can see why she was cast. "That's what I've been told," she said, laughing. "That I'm pretty similar to her character DNA already, so I didn't have to go very far in my study."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Often in a video game it can be the smallest of details that make the biggest impacts on the player experience. The way a gun feels satisfying to shoot thanks to small recoil animations or delicately balanced sound effects. The feeling of weight as a character moves due to precisely calculated animations reacting to your varied degrees of input. It's not uncommon for Naughty Dog to be included in conversations about such elements, with the studio packing in extremely high levels of details into both their worlds and characters. But in The Last of Us Part II, one effect and its popularity with players took even the studio by surprise. There are so many little details to Naughty Dog's sequel that bring the dreary world to life, but none stand out more prominently than its deeply satisfying glass-breaking mechanics. Whether you're shattering the display window of a derelict bookstore or using your elbow to break through a weapon display case, there's a tangible sense of joy that follows through with each action. It's difficult to pin down one reason for it though. Perhaps it's the dynamic nature of the cracking and the way pieces of glass remain reactive once they're scattered on the floor. Maybe it's the way it forces you to think about puzzles, giving you avenues to pursue solutions in ways that other games might restrict you. It could just be sensory, too, with the right amount of vibration accompanying the crunchy sound of the glass fracturing. Developers at Naughty Dog didn't just focus on any one of these aspects, but instead sought to create a system unlike any they had played with before.John Wick: Chapter 2"I liked the glass breaking in the movie John Wick," Jesse Garcia, a sound designer at Naughty Dog, explained. "You hear a nice explosive impact along with the glass layers. After that, a very nice, subtle glass debris rolls on the ground. This extra layer of detail gave not only the feeling of breaking glass but also the consequence that there is now glass all over the ground. This type of storytelling was exactly what we set out to achieve."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Battle royales have only been around for a handful of years, and for the most part they've strictly stuck within the same genre of games. Whether you're playing Warzone, Fortnite, or Apex Legends, you're always shooting a gun and running from an encroaching circle, with the differences kicking up in the small variations to their established formulas. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, an extremely colorful and whimsical battle royale, is a great example of the genre growing outside of its roots. It's a far more approachable take on the multiplayer format, with simple controls and a variety of mini-games giving this competitive game show as much charm as they do tension.Playing as one of 60 multi-colored, jelly bean-shaped contestants, you compete in a joyous and comical race to be crowned the winner of Fall Guys' 15-minute matches. Each one is broken up by various mini-games, with handfuls of players eliminated after each one. These games all take on a variety of themes, from straight-forward obstacle course races to frantic team games where you're hoarding as many eggs as you can into a basket. The mini-games make good use of Fall Guys' easy-to-understand control scheme, which lets you jump, dive, and grab with ease. Combined with the adorably clumsy movement animations, charming game show presentation, and suitably electric (and fantastic) soundtrack, Fall Guys will quickly catch your attention both visually and aurally. The pickup and play nature of Fall Guys is one of its strongest aspects, along with its quick and entertaining games. It's never unclear when you need to jump over a gap or navigate through the hordes of contestants trying to reach the finish line before you. It's the type of game you can play in groups by passing the controller, with no need for a deep understanding of multiple mechanics to enjoy it. Its approachability lets anyone have fun with it, while its stages bring out glimmers of strategy for seasoned players to take advantage of.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

A strike held by writers of the Lovestruck game platform has yielded great results. In mid-July, the writers of Lovestruck organized and went on strike to demand better work and pay conditions, as they were being "paid less than half the industry standard rate" for their work. The striking writers, who "are members of marginalized genders and/or sexualities," were originally presented with a dismissive statement from the company, which has since been removed from the Lovestruck website. Now, after 21 days of striking action, the official Lovestruck Twitter account has posted an update, announcing that an agreement had been reached with the writers. Cory Barlog, the director of PS4 exclusive God of War, is gearing up to develop for PS5. Barlog was a guest in the most recent episode of Animal Talking, Gary Whitta's Animal Crossing: New Horizons-hosted talk show, and Whitta asked him about the PS5. After some joking around, Barlog jumped into some insight into what we should expect from the system."The SSD is just amazing," Barlog says, saying that developers will no longer need to go to great lengths to hide loading screens. "There's some really cool stuff I think we're gonna be able to do," he teases. He says that there's always something sad about a new generation starting, but he thinks this one might be different."With every generation, it always feels like we master the generation, right, then it's like 'oh, there's a new one coming up,' and you're like 'but I just finally got this one,'" Barlog goes on to say. "But I think this is going to be a little bit different.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Update: Microsoft has provided a response to CNET outlining their position, and explaining that there's currently no solution for bringing Project xCloud to iOS."Our testing period for the Project xCloud preview app for iOS has expired," the statement reads. "Unfortunately, we do not have a path to bring our vision of cloud gaming with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to gamers on iOS via the Apple App Store. Apple stands alone as the only general purpose platform to deny consumers from cloud gaming and game subscription services like Xbox Game Pass."The statement points out that non-gaming apps operate under different rules on Apple's store. "We are committed to finding a path to bring cloud gaming with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to the iOS platform," it continues. "We believe that the customer should be at the heart of the gaming experience and gamers tell us they want to play, connect and share anywhere, no matter where they are. We agree."For now, at least, it seems that xCloud will be much easier to access for Android users. The original story follows.Earlier this week Microsoft confirmed that xCloud, its games streaming service that will be bundled with Xbox Games Pass Ultimate, will be launching in September on Android. Apple devices were completely omitted from the announcement, with their testing apps pulled from devices shortly afterwards.Microsoft has chosen to prematurely end its iOS testing for xCloud ahead of the previously communicated September 11 date, when Android test users will migrate over to the officially launched product. In a statement to The Verge, Microsoft say its attention now is focused on a smooth launch across Android.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Although he expressed frustrations, Beahm did not provide any explanation for why the ban was issued, instead noting that he was not given much notice and in the time since the justification has not become clear to him. "We still have no idea ... so just let the legal professionals just do what they need to do," he said.At the time of writing, his stream peaked at 510k concurrent viewers, showing that his popularity has transferred over from Twitch to YouTube. After a five-year wait, Rocksteady Studios, the developer behind the Batman: Arkham trilogy, has announced its next project is a Suicide Squad game. However, don't expect to really know what we'll be doing in the game for a few more weeks, as that information is being kept under wraps. Rather than opting for any fanfare, the studio simply tweeted out the reveal with an image of Superman (or could that be Bizzaro?) and a Suicide Squad logo. Evidently, we'll know more when DC FanDome kicks off at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET on Saturday, August 22. The free one-day virtual event is set to showcase what DC has coming up in the future, including The Batman, Zack Synder's cut of Justice League, The Suicide Squad, and now Rocksteady's take on the team of dysfunctional supervillains. Ed Boon, director on Mortal Kombat and Injustice, will also be attending. Target locked - #DCFanDome - August 22. #suicidesquadgame pic.twitter.com/HrXZNKwo0f — Rocksteady Studios (@RocksteadyGames) August 7, 2020The reveal of a Suicide Squad game isn't as surprising as it could have been after a recent report suggested Rocksteady was working on such a project. A cache of registered domain names may also hint at the game's full title and indicate its central idea, with one called "SuicideSquadKillTheJusticeLeague.com." The image Rocksteady has shared may also add some credence to the report. The Suicide Squad logo looks like it's intended to be a crosshair targeting Superman's head, which would fit if the game is indeed about killing off the Justice League.Info from Gamespot.com
