Whenever I board a passenger jet to go somewhere, my stomach sinks and my brain says, "Well, I guess you're gonna die now." But the thought of flying is still magical to me. Whether it's fighter jets in Ace Combat 7 or TIE Interceptors in Star Wars: Squadrons, the idea of a hunk of metal flying through the air (or space) is an exciting, fantastical idea. Flight is very real, of course, even if a lot of science behind it can initially seem unreal. With the return of Microsoft Flight Simulator, a game that is built to mimic reality as best as current technology will allow it, I can wield that magic for myself, operating and flying a plane with the understanding that the actions I'm performing have a strong basis in real life. It is terrifying. And it is absolutely phenomenal.Microsoft Flight Simulator's greatest boon is how easy it is to start experiencing the wonder of flight. It's a simulator first and foremost, of course--the amount of buttons, knobs, indicators in any one aircraft is staggering. Nearly all of them have a tangible function, too, and it's easy to see how the game could be used to train actual pilots to operate particular planes or navigate certain routes. But the first thing Flight Simulator throws up at you is a menu to determine your level of assistance--a whole manner of optional modifiers and notifications are there to help you get in the air or guide you on what to do and how to do it. At its most basic level, it's easy to get into the sky very quickly with minimal input using only a gamepad.Microsoft Flight Simulator pushes you to learn more, though. The tutorial attempts to teach you how to read the dials and meters in your cockpit, runs you through basic flight theory and etiquette, and guides you on how to navigate your way through the air by yourself. While my experience with arcade flight games led me to choose a middle-ground experience that let me control the plane in a mostly realistic manner, I found myself very eager to learn more. I wanted to stay in the incredibly detailed cockpit view more often in order to try and internalise the meter readings. I wanted to know what all the dials and buttons did and when to use them. At the time of writing, I'm now at the point where I'm operating my plane primarily through manual activation with my mouse and keyboard, using a controller only for its analog stick, and I feel incredibly accomplished.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

As school starts back up around the country, many students have probably picked up a new Chromebook to complete assignments. Chromebooks remain a popular option for students thanks to their budget-friendly prices and ability to complete most basic tasks. You can also use your Chromebook for gaming--after your work is done, of course. Right now, Chromebook users can secure a free copy of Dead Cells, one of the best roguelike games in recent memory. To claim Dead Cells on your Chromebook, you'll have to visit Google's Chromebook perks page, which has a running list of all of the latest freebies that you can grab. Dead Cells is only available for free for a limited time, so grab it as soon as you can.We gave the roguelike Metroidvania a 9/10 in our Dead Cells review. "Dead Cells is a fascinating amalgam of several of today's most popular indie genres," critic Daniel Starkey wrote. "It juggles elements of tough-as-nails action games and Metroid-inspired exploration platformers, with the procedurally generated levels and random item allotments found in roguelikes. It's impressive how it all comes together without a hitch, especially given that the persistent character growth found in games like Dark Souls or Metroid squarely conflicts with the randomized resets emblematic of Rogue-inspired games."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

When Ricky Haggett and Richard Hogg were thinking about their next game, I Am Dead, they started by unpacking an older one. Hohokum had been a success, but the two felt the environments were too static. For all the detail put into describing the world, you weren't able to see inside. That planted the seeds for I Am Dead, a game that lets you peer inside of just about everything."We spent a lot of time talking about those places and the characters and buildings, but you never really got to see inside any of it," Hagget told GameSpot. "Wouldn't it be nice to dig deeper into that stuff and maybe peel away the buildings and go inside them? And then, that sort of set us on this path of, well, what if you literally could peel away the sides of things and go and look inside them?"Hogg said they were pretty confident that simple concept--peering inside everyday objects--would make for an interesting gameplay hook. Gameplay trailers have shown it in action, peeling away different layers of everything from tomatoes to toasters. It's loosely explained by your character being a ghost, and therefore able to see inside of things. The nature of the mechanic lends itself to something like a hidden object game, but inverted. Instead of looking around for a thing, you're looking inside it and rotating it. The result appears to be a calm, meditative experience.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Doom Eternal makes demon slaying look better than it ever has, with brightly-colored effects soaking the detailed warzones you wage battle in. Today, you can toss that all aside to make the entry look a lot more like the game that started it all.As part of a free update, iD Software has added a handful of render modes to Doom Eternal that let you have fun with its visual presentation. One warps the screen into the dimly lit green of past handheld consoles, while another pixelates the action to replicate the look of the original Doom back in the '90s.If you're not looking for something retro, you can choose from more traditional modes such as Black and White, a more muted Cinematic mode, and a very serious-looking Gritty mode. Every mode works in the game's photo mode too, so you can share your favorite chainsaw kills with the flair they deserve.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

All has been pretty darn quiet on the Stranger Things front for quite a while this year, which isn't a total shock given that filming for the show's fourth season began in February this year--just before COVID-19 impacted countless productions, and left the Netflix series in relative filming limbo. But thanks to a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, co-creators the Duffer Brothers have revealed some interesting new details about what's to come."Everyone's excited to get back to work, but the priority of the cast and crew, and that will dictate when we go back to work," said Ross Duffer. "Season 4 won't be the end [of the series]. We know what the end is, and we know when it is. [The pandemic] has given us time to look ahead, figure out what is best for the show. Starting to fill that out gave us a better idea of how long we need to tell that story."Matt Duffer shared an insight into what he feels is a silver lining about the pause due to the pandemic: "We've had a lot more time to work on the scripts. For the first time, we have all the scripts written and we're able to look at it as a whole piece and make adjustments."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Nintendo Switch is set to be officially released in Brazil more than three years after it originally launched worldwide. Nintendo previously sold its systems in the South American country but halted distribution in 2015 after it claimed that high importation tariffs (that ranged from 20 to 50 percent) made it "unsustainable" to continue doing business there. While the company didn't give an exact date that its latest system will launch in Brazil, it did say that it is "coming soon" in an official announcement on Twitter and showed that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will launch alongside it.This decision comes after Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro lowered taxes on games late last year. Nintendo reentering the Brazilian market means that gamers in the country will be able to directly purchase Nintendo games and systems rather than importing or buying through resellers in the near future.Game developers and fans alike teamed up last year for an unofficial Brazil Nintendo Direct in order to get Nintendo to support Brazil and offer games in Portugese. The 23-minute video featured a number of titles including Celeste, Wargroove, and 20 other indie games. It received over 60,000 views on YouTube and now fans are closer to ever towards official support in the country.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

It goes without saying that optics are an important part of winning a match in Rainbow Six Siege: after all, you have to see your target to shoot them. The upcoming Y5S3 of Siege will totally change every aspect of how optics work in the game, and Ubisoft has published a new blog post that reveals the details, which are somewhat overwhelming in scope. (No pun intended.)For one, Y5S3 will introduce four new sights and scopes to Siege, including a Red Dot option, a Holographic option, and 1.5x and 2.0x scopes. Players will be able to select the type of sight as well as its casing (NATO, Russian, etc.) The new season will also completely redistribute what optics are available to each of the game's many operators, meaning that players will have more options than ever before, which will bring even more depth to the game's gunplay. The number of new options and permutations of gear is quite large, but if you're interested, you can download diagrams that explain the new meta in the blog post.Y5S3 will also introduce a robust set of new accessibility features to the game, including customizable reticle colors and opacity. The studio has also added more sensitivity options so that aiming down sights with different weapons will feel more consistent across the board, though it may require some fiddling.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
