Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is a rousing success for developer Mediatonic. The whimsical battle royale is selling exceptionally well on Steam, and the decision to include it as a PlayStation Plus freebie is a stroke of genius. Early in development, however, no one could have predicted how popular it would eventually be--especially not the publishers who opted not to fund it.In a lengthy Twitter thread, Mediatonic creative designer Jeff Tanton talks about Fall Guys' initial inception, its early development, the creation of the Beans, and the difficulties the studio had finding a publisher. It began back in January 2018, when lead game designer Joe Walsh came up with an idea for a 100-person battle royale inspired by Japanese game show Takeshi's Castle. The game was initially titled Fool's Gauntlet, and while the core conceit of Fall Guys was already there, the first draft was a bit more punishing than the game we eventually got. For one, death always resulted in elimination, and it was possible to finish a game with no winners. How very Takeshi's Castle.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Typically, when covering what is coming out on Netflix for the upcoming week, we tend to highlight numerous movies or TV shows. Additionally, Season 3 of the anime series Aggretsuko arrives next Thursday. Now, let's chat about one of the greatest shows in the era of streaming: Cobra Kai. Originally a YouTube Premium series--which was not a great home for it--the follow-up show to the classic Karate Kid movies sees the first two seasons land on Netflix on Friday, August 28. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout doesn't feature a traditional battle pass in terms of cost and in-game challenges, but it does have a select rotation of costumes that have made up its first season since launch. Developer Mediatonic is already gearing up to reveal what will be part of Season 2 next week.Teased by Geoff Keighley and taking place at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25, Mediatonic will be revealing Season 2 content for Fall Guys with a brand-new trailer. The tease doesn't suggest what the new season might entail or whether its content is restricted to just new costumes. Since launch, Falls Guys has received a new finale mode and tweaks to multiple game modes, so new game types might not be out of the question.Costumes have already started leaking ahead of the reveal, which might give us a glimpse of some Season 2 content. Costume crossovers with My Friend Pedro and Portal have already been leaked. A recent update has also brought over numerous PC-exclusive costumes to PS4, many of which have been associated to Valve games. It could mean that previously assumed exclusivity might no longer be an issue for Season 2, either.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The indie game Spiritfarer has gotten a warm reception this week, including on Nintendo Switch. But the relaxing management game also features talking animals, and so it included a bit of lighthearted fun at the expense of fellow anthropomorphic chill vibes game Animal Crossing. As Kotaku notes, one of the shops that provides important crafting materials is called Raccoon, Inc., run by a shady raccoon named Theodore. He attempts to price-gouge the player, prompting one of your companions to chastise him with some harsh words. Afterward, Theodore feels contrite and drops his prices.Tom Nook has gained a reputation as a meme for his sky-high prices for housing loans, and somewhat unscrupulous manner of surprising you with a mortgage you didn't realize you were signing up for. (To his credit, his loans are interest-free; try getting that from an actual bank.) So it only stands to reason that a business tycoon raccoon would be a hat-tip to Nook.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Ubisoft has made a change to the Collector's editions on Xbox for three of its most anticipated games. If you pre-ordered the Collector's editions for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion, or Far Cry 6 on Xbox, you will now receive a digital copy of the game rather than a physical edition. In a short post announcing the change, Ubisoft didn't provide a reason, but it could be related to Xbox's Smart Delivery feature, which grants access to select games on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Essentially, you buy a game once to play on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X. All three of these Ubisoft titles support Smart Delivery, so there's only one Collector's edition for each game that will be compatible with both Xbox consoles.Assassin's Creed Valhalla Collector's edition Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Fortnite has no shortage of content these days, with weekly challenges to complete during the current season as well as the new Free Fortnite Cup. However, it looks like things are going to get a little more super-powered as new Marvel content makes its way to the game. If the official Twitter account is teasing what we think it is teasing, that could mean the god of thunder, Thor, is on the way.A short video clip posted on August 21 includes the Fortnite and Marvel logos along with what appears to be Thor within the lettering. The emoji above the video are for a hammer, lightning bolt, and rainbow, representing Mjolnir, his ability to summon lightning, and the Bifrost. Previously, other Marvel characters such as Thanos and Deadpool have been featured in the past.🔨⚡🌈 pic.twitter.com/0U7fFnrTsW — Fortnite (@FortniteGame) August 21, 2020We'll know more on August 27, which lines up with the beginning of Gamescom 2020. Few stages are bigger for a game announcement, but Epic Games is not on the official list of Gamescom partners right now. Director Zack Snyder has tweeted a short video, which in turn teases Saturday's expected release of a longer teaser for the long-fabled "Snyder cut" of 2017's Justice League. Snyder will be making an appearance at DC's virtual convention, DC FanDome, on August 22 at 2:45 PM PT / 5:45 PM ET in a panel that, according to Snyder's tweet, will kick off shortly after the new trailer's premiere at 2:30 PM PT.Teaser Premiere 8/22 2:30pm (PDT) #DCFanDome pic.twitter.com/3RfF6LXhr3 — Zack Snyder (@ZackSnyder) August 21, 2020Fans who haven't been following "Snyder cut" news can be forgiven for feeling confused at what the fuss is with a re-release of the 2017 film. We have a more comprehensive breakdown of what we know about the new version, but long story short: Snyder (Watchmen, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice), was initially involved but a troubled production and a family tragedy led to his leaving the project and Joss Whedon stepping in to take over as an uncredited director. The final product received mixed reviews, which led to strong demand for a director's cut fully realizing if not more closely approximating Snyder's vision. The 23-second clip Snyder tweeted out doesn't tell you much, but it might at least convey the vibe the director's cut will inhabit. Earlier this year, Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter that this version shouldn't be thought of as a version, per se, but "an entirely new thing." In an interview, Snyder revealed that the previous theatrical cut is "one-fourth" of what he imagined.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

You can play as anyone you want in Watch Dogs: Legion, which launches on October 29 on PC, Playstation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One. Whoever you play as can die permanently, though. While that sounds discouraging, especially if you get attached to a specific character, Ubisoft has confirmed that permadeath is not a requirement. In a Reddit AMA, creative director Clint Hocking responded to someone asking about how permadeath works when selecting a difficulty setting. The short answer is permadeath is optional."Difficulty and Permadeath are separate options," Hocking said. "You can play in Easy, Normal, or Hard, and you can play with Permadeath on or off in any difficulty."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
