For a brief time recently, EA put advertisements into UFC 4 but they have since been removed following outcry from the playerbase. One of the ads was for Amazon's show, The Boys, which recently returned for a second season. As you can see, the logo for The Boys was also displayed on the center of the Octagon.EA decided to add full-on commercials in the middle of gameplay in a $60 game a month after it's release so it wasn't talked about in reviews from r/assholedesignIn a statement sent to Eurogamer, EA said the feedback was loud and clear.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

It's been a while since David Fincher (The Social Network, Fight Club, Zodiac), released a new film, but his follow-up to 2014's Gone Girl is due to hit Netflix this year. Now Netflix has released four shots from Mank, Fincher's film about Herman J. Mankiewicz, a screenwriter who contended that he should have received a screenwriting credit for Citizen Kane. The movie will focus on his conflict with Orson Welles, the movie's director (and credited writer). The four shots below show off Gary Oldman as Mankiewicz, Amanda Seyfried as Marion Davies, and Charles Dance as William Randolph Hearst. They're also in black-and-white--if the full film is done without color, it would be era-appropriate.Fincher has previously worked with Netflix on the series Mindhunter. It's unclear whether that show will ever return for Season 3, but it won't happen anytime soon.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The ESRB has published its rating and description for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and there are few surprises to be found.Like every previous mainline Call of Duty game, Black Ops Cold War is rated M for Mature in the United States. The game will have blood and gore, drug references, intense violence, strong language, and suggestive themes. There will also be in-game purchases. The ratings summary, meanwhile, sheds a little more light on the violence and themes of Black Ops Cold War. "Battles are highlighted by realistic gunfire, blood-splatter effects, and cries of pain. In addition to ranged combat, players have the ability to stab or pistol-whip enemies close-up, or use them as human shields," the description says. "Some weapons cause characters to explode into bloody chunks of flesh."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been an extraordinary success on Switch, selling 22.4 million copies since its release in March, and the game's broad appeal was not by accident. During a presentation at Japan’s Computer Entertainment Developers Conference, which was viewed by Japanese site 4Gamer and translated by Video Games Chronicle, the game's director Aya Kyogoku went deep on the series' success, and who New Horizons has appealed to so far.Kyogoku said that a series like Animal Crossing "cannot be sustained without change"--while the Animal Crossing games maintain similar gameplay between releases, there are a lot of changes that long-time fans will recognize. "Games are entertainment, so you will definitely get tired of making the same things," Kyogoku said. "In order for the series to continue to exist as an IP and for many people to enjoy it for a long time, it is important to continue to challenge and change with the times."For New Horizons, she says, the main change was that players can get goals and achievements that change across their playtime, with the Nook Miles system giving more clear goals early on.Hisashi Nogami, the series' head producer, was also involved in the presentation. He said that the New Horizons player base doesn't have a clear split between male and female players, and that many players are in their 20s and 30s. "What would the public imagine if they were asked what kind of game Animal Crossing is," he asked. "I think there is probably an image of 'a game where you can live leisurely with cute animals’ and ‘a game for young girls...However, looking at the gender and age data of Animal Crossing users, it is clear that the ratio of males and females is half and there are many users in their 20s and 30s."This will likely not come as a surprise to anyone who has followed the hype around the game--even Danny Trejo loves it. Nogami says that many younger players have likely not gotten the game yet because it has not been available over a holiday period yet, when children are more likely to receive the game as a present. A second presentation, focused on New Horizons' art, also happened. Art director Kouji Takahashi discussed the game's art, saying that fish and buys were rendered realistically so that players could inspect them closely and enjoy them. Certain other elements, like trees and plants, are rendered in a more cartoony way, because going too realistic would make the picture on the screen too busy, and when that happens "the player becomes passive."Takahashi talks about the importances of the "imaginary gap," whereby the image sparks player's imaginations. "If artists are able to symbolize memories and images, each interpretation will be applied to the ‘imaginary gap’ and infinite value will be created," he says.If you're on the hunt for new bugs and fish in September across New Horizons, here's what to look for.Info from Gamespot.com

Hand-to-hand combat and plenty of forklift action are coming to Crunchyroll. The cult-favorite Shenmue game series is getting turned into an anime series with original creator Yu Suzuki serving as executive producer.Announced during the Virtual Crunchyroll Expo on September 5, the Shenmue anime series is a collaboration with Adult Swim and will be directed by One-Punch Man's Chikara Sakurai. The 13-episode series doesn't have a release date yet, but Shenmue fans are used to waiting a long time. After the original two games released on Dreamcast, it took another 18 years to get Shenmue 3. That likely only happened because of a Kickstarter campaign that still stands as the biggest ever for a video game, attracting more than $6 million in donations. The game took nearly two years longer to develop than was initially planned and didn’t perform particularly well outside of its Kickstarter campaign sales. After only being available for a little over a year, it appears the Oculus Quest could be on its way out--or at least the original version of the headset. Just prior to Facebook Connect, retailers have begun delisting the Quest and are reportedly saying it has been discontinued.Speaking to UploadVR, a UK sales representative said the device had reached its "end of life" and no more shipments will be arriving. It will likely give way to a new and improved Quest rather than signify the standalone headset's complete demise. It has sold well and has been regularly out of stock at retailers well before its apparent discontinuation. On September 16, Facebook will hold an AR- and VR-focused conference called Facebook Connect. A replacement for the Oculus Connect conference, the name change comes as Oculus Research itself was renamed to Facebook Reality Labs. Given the massive brand recognition for Oculus, however, it seems unlikely the devices themselves will drop it.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Note: This post contains a ton of spoilers for story and lore found in Control's AWE DLC, as well as the Alan Wake games and some of Control's base game. Read on at your own risk!Alan Wake lives. The fate of the titular famous writer has been unknown since the release of Remedy Entertainment's cult classic 2010 psychological thriller title and its 2012 spin-off, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, but Easter egg tidbits have popped up here and there ever since. In Control, Remedy goes all-in on reviving Alan Wake (perhaps because it finally got the rights to the game back in 2019)--Wake's story is violently colliding with that of Control protagonist Jesse Faden in that game's final DLC expansion, AWE.AWE isn't only about Alan Wake and its characters, but much of the DLC provides context and clues about what happened to various people in the 10 years since Wake's disappearance at the end of his game. We get updates on what's happening in Bright Falls, what's going on with Wake's wife, Alice, and what happened to Dr. Emil Hartman, one of the people who knew the most about the evil supernatural Dark Presence in Alan Wake. The DLC also does a lot to set up where the Alan Wake story will be going next--it sure sounds like Remedy's next game is some form of Alan Wake 2.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

When the remasters for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 were announced, I'm sure we all instantly thought, "Hell yeah, this is gonna be a wild nostalgia trip," hoping developer Vicarious Visions could nail the look and feel of the original games again. I even wrote about how the announcement itself made me recollect on the real-world cultural impact of THPS. Now that I've been able to spend time with the full game, it turns out it's so much more than a nostalgia trip.It does indeed recapture the spirit of those 20+ year old games. Between the faithful gameplay with proper physics and controls and the recreation of skateparks with our favorite tunes from yesteryear, you get exactly what you'd hoped. But THPS 1 + 2 Remastered also used this as an opportunity to represent a new era of skating, reintroducing us to the sport and culture as a reflection of what it is now.Aori Nishimura is one of the exciting additions to THPS, and she's an accomplished 19-year old pro skater from Japan. You see this in the roster of playable skaters. It's dope that I can play as middle-aged versions of Tony Hawk, Kareem Campbell, and my personal favorite, Eric Koston, again. However, in my several hours with THPS 1 + 2 Remastered, I've gravitated towards the new skaters who have reinvigorated my appreciation and understanding for skate culture. I'm looking up skate tapes, competition footage, and interviews from Tyshawn Jones, Lizzie Armanto, Aori Nishimura, and Leo Baker--all of whom are now my favorites to play as and watch.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Ubisoft's Immortals: Fenyx Rising--the game formerly known as Gods & Monsters--will apparently launch on December 3 according to an early Microsoft Store listing. The studio is set to re-announce the game and delve into more details during its next Ubisoft Forward event on September 10, but it looks like Microsoft has jumped the gun.The listing, which was spotted by Twitter user Wario64, has since been removed, but not before providing us with more information (and some screenshots) on the next project from Assassin's Creed: Odyssey studio Ubisoft Quebec."Immortals: Fenyx Rising brings grand mythological adventure to life," read the store page's description. "Play as Fenyx, on a quest to save the Greek gods from a dark curse. Wield the powers of the gods to battle powerful mythological beasts in the air or on the ground, and solve ancient puzzles. The fate of the world is at stake--you are the gods' last hope."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

There is no level more iconic in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise than the Warehouse. Its simplicity, great skating options for vert and street styles, and grimy aesthetic helped to make it an instant classic in the original game, but did you know it's actually real?Tony Hawk had a chance to skate a real-life version of the Warehouse to celebrate the launch of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, pulling off some impressive tricks but failing to find any of the S-K-A-T-E letters we're sure are hiding somewhere. He gets some serious air when hitting the ramp located on the far side of the Warehouse, and the trailer cuts between footage of the video game Tony and the real Tony doing the same tricks. It's particularly impressive now that Hawk is 52 years old.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
