Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is poised to be one of 2020's biggest games, and it's also notable because it's the first Call of Duty game for the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles.CharlieIntel reports that Black Ops Cold War will release on November 13 for PS5/Digital PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. That date was already announced for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC editions of the military shooter, and now we know it also applies to the next-gen editions.A new campaign mission from Black Ops Cold War was shown during the PS5 event, and we also learned a little more about how the game will use the console's new features. Specifically, Black Ops Cold War will make use of the DualSense controller to provide haptic feedback to help you "feel the impact of every pulse-pounding move and explosion in your hands." The game also uses Tempest 3D AudioTech to make the game sound better.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The next-gen floodgates have opened, and we now finally know the price and release date of the PlayStation 5. The system will launch on November 12, but the launch line-up isn't huge. However, you'll be able to play various PlayStation 4 games on the system from launch, and it sounds like backwards compatibility will run deeper than we initially thought. In an interview with The Washington Post, Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan said that backwards compatibility has been tested with "thousands" of games, and that most of them work. In fact, the figure he gives is "99 percent," meaning that it will be rare for a PS4 game to not work on Sony's new console.Sony initially confirmed that the PS5 will be able to run most of the "top 100" PS4 games, but later said that the system will support an "overwhelming majority" of PS4 games. 99% is certainly an overwhelming majority. This should surprise no one, but Nintendo is not going to exit the hardware business anytime soon. As part of the company's latest corporate management briefing, the firm revealed that it's working on new hardware, and that it will be released before the end of the century.A slide confirms that Nintendo's "next gaming system" will launch sometime in "20XX," which means it will be released before the year 2100. In reality, whatever this system ends up being, it will surely be released before then, but Nintendo isn't ready to commit to any dates. You can check out the graphic below, and have a chuckle that Nintendo decided to completely omit the Wii U. The Switch is currently riding high with more than 60 million units sold worldwide to date. The console is keeping up its momentum, too, as it recently set a new US record for the highest dollar sales of any console in history for an August month.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Sony boss Jim Ryan has commented on the news that a number of PlayStation 5 games will also be released on PlayStation 4. Speaking to The Washington Post, Ryan said releasing titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Horizon: Forbidden West on both PS5 and PS4 is all about giving people a choice for where they want to buy their games."No one should be disappointed," Ryan told the publication. "The PS5 versions of those games are built from the ground up to take advantage of the PS5 feature set, and we have an upgrade path for PS4 users to get the PS5 versions for free. It's about people having choice. I'm really quite pleased about the situation."Some might have been surprised when Sony announced the cross-gen strategy for those games. After all, Ryan said earlier this year that Sony planned to release PS5 games at launch that would be exclusive to the platform because the company wants to create content that can "really only be enjoyed on PS5."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

We now know just about everything we need to know about the PlayStation 5 ahead of release--it'll release on November 12 for $500, and launch games include Demon's Souls and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. We also know what the box looks like, and what's inside it. But it's also important that you make some room for the system in your entertainment unit--the PS5 is easily the biggest PlayStation yet.The official dimensions for the PS5 have been released, and it's enormous. The disc drive version of the console is a bit bigger and heavier, but the digital version of the console is also very big. Here's the measurements.PlayStation 5US: 15.35in × 4.09in × 10.23in (width x height x depth, excludes base)Metric: 390mm x 104mm x 260mm (width x height x depth, excludes base)Weight: 9.92lbs (4.5kg)PlayStation 5 Digital EditionUS: 15.34in × 3.62in × 10.23mm (width x height x depth, excludes base)Metric: 390mm x 92mm x 260mm (width x height x depth, excludes base)Weight: 8.59lbs (3.9kg)As Kotaku points out, this makes the PS5 quite a bit bigger than the Xbox One X, and much bigger than the Xbox Series S.Thankfully, the PS5 can be laid down flat if you don't have room to stand it up--as many people won't--but you'll need to make sure you have room for it in your entertainment unit.If you want to get your hands on a PS5 at launch, you'll want to check out GameSpot's preorder guide--the system is already starting to sell out in presales. Mario's never been one to turn down a shindig--one need only look at the numerous Mario Parties he's thrown over the years for proof of that--but his anniversary is one occasion that is rarely celebrated. His 25th anniversary was marked with a Wii re-release of Super Mario All-Stars, of all things--hardly the most auspicious way to commemorate such a remarkable milestone. This year, however, Nintendo is giving Mario a more fitting anniversary tribute, headlining the festivities with Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a Switch compilation featuring a trio of the plumber's most influential adventures: N64's Super Mario 64, GameCube's Super Mario Sunshine, and Wii's Super Mario Galaxy. But while Mario 3D All-Stars is ostensibly a celebration of Mario's history, a chance to revisit the plumber's genre-defining leap into the third dimension, it's still lacking in some regards. For one, you won't find anything in the way of supplemental material here: just Mario's first three 3D adventures, modestly touched up for high-definition displays, and their accompanying soundtracks. The presentation is minimal but handsomely designed, and the soundtracks are a nice bonus, but the package on the whole hardly feels like a celebration of the series in the way that, say, Kirby's Dream Collection or even the original Super Mario All-Stars did.Still, the games that are included here are some of Mario's most memorable, and they've all been given an HD sheen. Mario 64 runs in 720p whether you're playing on the television or in handheld mode, while Sunshine and Galaxy both run in 1080p docked and 720p in handheld. Sunshine's aspect ratio has also been increased to 16:9. Thanks to the improved resolution, the games all look more vibrant and colorful than ever, which helps mask their otherwise aging visuals; Galaxy in particular has benefited greatly from the HD touchup and is often stunning. The UI elements in each game look much crisper as well, and the in-game text has been updated to reflect the tweaked controls (and in Mario 64's case, the fuzzy font has been smoothed over, making it much easier to read).Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

There are only two radio channels in the slice-of-life driving simulator, Road to Guangdong--one plays some blend of milquetoast "oriental" music, while the other broadcasts more upbeat and decidedly modern synthwave-inspired melodies. It's this gulf between the two genres that also seems to inspire one of the few highlights behind Road to Guangdong: the light-hearted ribbing between you and your Guu Ma--the Chinese honorific for aunts--as you embark on a road trip together. The elderly Guu Ma's disdain for the pulsating grooves of electronic music means she will always try to change the radio channel back to the vaguely Guangdong-esque music she's more familiar with, after much grumbling about the unrefined state of modern music. You can, of course, flip the channel back again, if only to annoy her--and cackle at her exasperation as she reaches out to change the music once again. While this small interaction is mildly amusing, it doesn't sustain the game's novelty for long. Road to Guangdong is a long-winding, exhausting ride--and I don't mean in terms of hours. Not only is its pacing extremely sluggish, its characters' minimalist expressions are also overly mechanical and too limited in their range to convey any emotion--an unfortunate design choice that only brings more attention to the game's flat, lacklustre dialogues. This is made more apparent when Guu Ma occasionally sprinkles some canned advice over the course of your endless drives, one of which is a recurring suggestion to change your radio channel. But why would you suggest that, Guu Ma, if the only other option is these trance-like bangers you hate so much?Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

We're awaiting Sony's next PlayStation 5 Showcase event, where we hope we might finally hear word about the PS5 price and release date. But the console isn't the only piece of new hardware Sony is releasing this holiday season, and there's reason to think that its main accessory could heft a healthy price tag of its own.Though much has been made of game prices remaining largely static in defiance of external forces like inflation, the price for extra controllers has actually been creeping upwards. Controllers were once lower-priced than games. A controller MSRP matching game prices at $60 is actually a relatively recent phenomenon. Nintendo has taken it even further, offering individual Joy-Con controllers individually for $50, or bundled as pairs for $80. Its Pro Controller is also higher than the norm, at $70.Meanwhile, Sony and Microsoft have both found their own ways to increase income from accessories. Microsoft offers custom controller colors through its Design Lab, and the pricey Elite controller that comes with special features. Sony hasn't created its own equivalent of the Elite controller, but it does offer a back paddle attachment.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The French studio Dontnod Entertainment has managed an impressive run of highly regarded narrative games, from the smash hit Life Is Strange to the offbeat vampire adventure Vampyr. The studio's latest project, Twin Mirror, is a genre-defying detective thriller that focuses on questions of identity, the past, and guilt, and it comes out December 1.Twin Mirror stars an investigative journalist named Sam who returns to his rural hometown of Basswood, West Virginia due to the death of a close friend. Players navigate through both the real world and Sam's "mind palace" to gather clues, develop theories, and make decisions about the direction of their investigation. The game seems highly reminiscent of the landmark cinematic detective game Heavy Rain. The developer has stated that the game lacks any supernatural elements, and will be the studio's first self-published game. Twin Mirror was previously announced as an episodic game, but that is no longer the case. Dontnod's latest release was Tell Me Why, a narrative adventure that stars a transgender man living in a community of indigenous people.Info from Gamespot.com

A new set of iPads are on the way, Apple announced during its September event, unveiling the eighth-generation iPad and the new iPad Air.The highlight of the iPad presentation was the discussion of the A14 Bionic chip, which is the company's latest processor that promises 40 percent more performance over the previous iPad Air. In addition to the higher performance, the new iPad Air houses a 10.9-inch liquid Retina display that's nearly edge-to-edge. In fact, the new iPad Air has a look more in common with the iPad Pro in terms of design. As such, the Touch ID is now located in the lock button on the top, as opposed to the home button previously found on the front. Apple also did away with the lightning port, giving the new iPad Air USB-C functionality. It retails for $599 USD and will be available next month.Meanwhile, the eighth-generation iPad will feature the A12 Bionic chip, the same processor found in the 2019 iPad Air.
