Game of Thrones delivered its most significant, iconic shock toward the end of its third season back in 2013 when Robb Stark, his mother Catelyn, and his wife Talisa were killed by a rival family at an event that came to be known in-fiction as the "Red Wedding." It rocked fans who read the original scene in the 2000 novel A Storm of Swords--fans who then looked forward to show-only people's minds being blown once the scene finally aired. And with some minor tweaks, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss mostly succeeded in translating the gut-wrenching event to television. One major change related to the show's version of the Red Wedding only became evident long afterward, as it grew more and more clear that one iconic character would not be adapted from the source material to the screen. In the novels, you see, Catelyn Stark doesn't stay dead. Like other characters in the series, she's resurrected by Red Magic--think priests of R'hllor like Melisandre and Beric Dondarrion's friend Thoros. (If this is all starting to sound like nonsensical trivia, don't worry, we're getting to a point.)In the books, fire zombie Catelyn--also known as Lady Stoneheart--goes on a tear through the Riverlands lynching any and all "enemies" (as she very loosely defines them) and perpetrators of the Red Wedding, including any members of the rival Frey family she can get her hands on. She hasn't appeared much in the currently published books, but fans hope she'll play a more prominent role in future material. In a series where justice is so rarely served, some readers find it cathartic to have an undead agent of pure vengeance floating around on the fringes. So it was extremely disappointing to a lot of people when the show ultimately chose to leave Lady Stoneheart in the realm of the written word.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Developer Innersloth has decided to cancel Among Us 2 and instead focus on expanding the content offered in Among Us. In a blog post, the developer wrote that the decision was made in response to the recent spike in popularity for the party survival game."All of the content we had planned for Among Us 2 will instead go into Among Us 1," Innersloth writes. "This is probably the more difficult choice because it means going deep into the core code of the game and reworking several parts of it. We have lots of things planned and we're excited to bring new content to everyone as you continue to enjoy playing."These content expansions include new servers, colorblind support, a friends/account system, and a new stage, though Innersloth added that there are "lots of other things planned too, we just need to prioritize and organize."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Fall Guys developer Mediatonic have shared some new lore details regarding the popular battle royale game, and it's truly a sight to behold.Senior concept artist Tudor Morris has shared new art for Fall Guys, showing the anatomy of a fall guy. Microsoft didn't spend $7.5 billion on ZeniMax/Bethesda for its current pipeline alone--the company splashed out that giant fee because it believes in Bethesda's future games. We don't know exactly what those are, but now Xbox boss Phil Spencer has provided a tease. In an appearance on Major Nelson's podcast, Spencer said he knows the "future roadmap" for Bethesda's game studios, and he believes it is an "incredibly exciting time.""I have the benefit of knowing the future roadmap and having some insight into the things that have been both announced and unannounced that the teams are working on," Spencer said. "It's an incredibly exciting time for the work that Bethesda's studios are doing, as they continue with the craft of creating games and also thinking about how our medium of gaming continues to evolve and their role in that."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

It's a very strange time for Justice League fans. While the highly anticipated Snyder Cut is definitely happening and bound for HBO Max as a four-part limited series, a troubling conversation has been brewing around the film's original release back in 2017. Actor Ray Fisher, who played Cyborg, publicly called out Joss Wedon as well as executives Jon Berg and Geoff Johns for creating an abusive and hostile work environment after Snyder himself left the project in the wake of personal tragedy. Since then, his co-star Jason Momoa has also taken to social media in support of Fisher's claims, calling for a full investigation by WarnerMedia.Notably, Momoa also called out Warner Bros. themselves, stating that they released a "fake" release about his involvement in an animated Frosty the Snowman movie to distract from Fisher's claims.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The first time I beat the final boss in Hades, I felt an enormous sense of relief. I'd been fighting to see this ending for hours (months, technically, if you count my time in early access), and in roguelikes, it feels better than usual to see an ending. But while I was definitely a little too proud of putting together a set of abilities and perks that shredded the boss after they wrecked me just a few tries ago, that wasn't why I felt tears welling up. I'd gotten so caught up in the story of my character, Zagreus, and the heroes, villains, and gods that had helped him get here that I was elated to have finally gotten him to the end of his journey. What sets Hades apart isn't just that it's a great roguelike with the kind of repeatable depth that makes it engrossing to play for hours, but also how it uses its structure to tell an ongoing story about family, secrets, and resolution. That Hades' narrative is so entwined with its combat is nothing new for the developers at Supergiant Games, who've established themselves as masters of putting your actions in sync with the stories they tell. In a roguelike such as Hades, it means playing as Zagreus, a god of rebirth. Tired of living under his father Hades' thumb and seeking answers about where he comes from, he sets out to escape to the world of the living, battling various undead monsters, living creatures, and mythological figures on his way out.Your godliness justifies the endless runs through the depths of the underworld, since dying and coming back to life is par for the course in Greek myth. One of the best parts of Hades, in fact, is returning to the House of Hades time and again after you die. It's not just a pit stop on the way to the next run--it's the centerpiece Hades hinges on. There, figures such as Achilles, Hypnos, and Nyx console you after your deaths, praise you for making progress, and confide in you about one another. You chat with them, undertake side quests, and exchange gifts to deepen your relationships. Eventually, they become vital allies on your quest, even if they're not in the thick of combat with you.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

In Spelunky 2, the turkey's fate is in your hands. You could hop on the bird's back, making use of its double jump and Yoshi-like glide to flap your way through your run. For a solid payout, you could return it and the other birds scattered throughout a stage to the turkey farmer who oversees their pen. You could whip it unconscious, throw a bomb next to its body, and eat the resulting Thanksgiving platter for one heart--or you could do that last one in the farmer's line of sight, prompting him to take up arms against you, "you monster."This is the mode that Spelunky 2 constantly operates in. There are always risk-reward choices to make, and death is nearly instantaneous if you choose poorly. Like its acclaimed predecessor, Spelunky 2 is the rare platformer that demands to be played as much like a tactics game as it does like a Mario game. As you learn (or relearn) how to survive, success requires a willingness to think three moves ahead. Some tiles are booby-trapped to shoot arrows as you leap through their line of sight. Some vases summon a relentless ghost when smashed. Some pottery hides snakes and tarantulas. Some spiders hang from the cavern ceilings, hoping you pass by unaware. You really shouldn't even move from your initial spawn point without pausing for a moment to pore over every treacherous inch of the screen. That is, unless you spawn near a bat, which will swoop down at you--hope you're quick with your whip.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The pre-order launch of Nvidia's much-anticipated RTX 3080 was an unmitigated disaster, and many would-be customers have yet to get their hands on a confirmed order. Yesterday, Nvidia posted a more detailed explanation on its website, citing a heretofore unseen level of traffic and answering a few of the questions that frustrated fans have been asking on sites like Reddit. In the statement, Nvidia generally blames the "truly unprecedented" level of demand for the RTX 30-series as the source of the trouble, saying that it and its partners underestimated it. The manufacturer notes that the traffic to retailers exceeded Black Friday numbers, illustrating just how many people wanted to buy the card. Nvidia notes that it began shipping GPUs to retailers in August, and that such shortages are relatively common when it comes to the launch of high-end graphics cards.Later in the statement, Nvidia blames a wave of "malicious bots and resellers" for snatching up many of the orders, saying that it has made several changes to its own Nvidia Store to prevent future occurrences, including CAPTCHA integration. The company also says that it has cancelled hundreds of "confirmed orders" that were later detected as originating from bots.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The shortage of Nvidia's new Geforce RTX 3080 graphics card continues to plague the PC gaming community, with many enthusiasts still unable to secure an order. In the latest effort to prevent bots from snapping up all of the cards, Nvidia partner EVGA has announced that it's "hand-reviewing" all RTX 3080 orders.Important note: We are hand reviewing all EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 orders, any orders that are taken from "bots" will be rejected. — EVGA (@TEAMEVGA) September 21, 2020This rather unusual move comes nearly a week after the disastrous launch of the GPU, where many gamers were unable to purchase the card even at the exact moment of its rollout. Many of those customers have blamed bots for the shortage on platforms like Reddit, which has led Nvidia to release multiple public statements detailing the changes that it's making to bot-proof its platform.Nvidia and its retail partners also noted the unprecedented demand for the card, which in many cases exceeded Black Friday numbers. Customers that are subscribed to Amazon's "in-stock" alerts are being sent to listings that are asking for wildly-inflated prices, up to $5000. In GameSpot's Nvidia RTX 3080 review, we found that the card exceeds the performance of the previous 20-series by a significant margin. If you're still trying to decide what card in the 30-series to buy, check out our buyer's guide.Info from Gamespot.com

Bithell Games is a studio that isn't afraid to mix things up, and its latest game is no exception. Best known for the narrative puzzle game Thomas Was Alone and the bizarre John Wick Hex, the studio's new title, The Solitaire Conspiracy, is a spycraft-themed take on the classic solo card game.So... what if Solitaire, but extra, with powers and a full FMV storied campaign, time attack and skirmish modes!https://t.co/y2ajsbnNqLThe third Bithell Short: The Solitaire Conspiracy. Coming October 6th. Wishlist now, and help us make a splash on launch day. pic.twitter.com/P12191zW4I — Mike Bithell (@mikeBithell) September 22, 2020As studio head Mike Bithell explained in a Twitter thread, Bithell Games tends to alternate between big, high-profile titles like John Wick Hex and more experimental "shorts" that push the boundaries of traditional game design. Previous shorts include the sci-fi story games Subsurface Circular and Quarantine Circular, which were released without any sort of build or marketing. However, due to the crowded games market of 2020, Bithell is giving The Solitaire Conspiracy a two-week lead-up.Based on its trailer, The Solitaire Conspiracy looks to be a spy thriller, featuring pesky moles, high-stress heists, and lots and lots of dramatic card-flipping. It also has a solo campaign anchored by FMV cutscenes that includes performances by gaming notables like Kinda Funny's Greg Miller. You can check out the trailer on Steam. The Solitaire Conspiracy releases October 6 for PC, though other platforms may be announced in the coming weeks.Info from Gamespot.com
