Microsoft has partnered with one of the biggest food companies on the planet for a new campaign focused on Halo Infinite. If you've been to a grocery store recently, you might have noticed an assortment of Halo-branded sweet snacks, and this is the result of a new deal between Microsoft and Mondelez, the company that owns brands like Oreo, Cadbury, Sour Patch Kids, Nutter Butter, and more.Packs of Mondelez snacks with Master Chief on the box will come with codes to unlock special content for Halo Infinite, like the Monarch multiplayer armor for Halo Infinite. In Canada, this promotion is called Snack On With Xbox and in the US it's called Level Up Your Game.The fine print of the promo states that the Halo Infinite DLC included with the snacks will be available as a timed-exclusive for three months following the game's release date in 2021. Marvel's Avengers released in early September, and now, five weeks later, the game's playerbase has dropped off somewhat. Steam Charts shows that, on Steam, the game's daily peak for the last week is 2400 players online (down from a 28,145 all-time peak), which is a problem for a service game like this once players have beaten the 10-14 hour campaign. Kotaku noted this issue, brought about by the game's somewhat lackluster endgame, and reached out to developer Crystal Dynamics to ask what their plan is to bolster the game's population. Studio head Scot Amos gave the site a statement, promising an influx of content to keep players interested and give them new things to do."To our players: every day we fight to make the best game possible for our community," Amos said. "We have a number of new content pieces coming in the weeks ahead including: a totally new War Zone mission type called Tachyon Rifts, a new Outpost that’s a jumping off point for new story missions in the future, and AIM’s Cloning Lab, which requires a coordinated high-level group of four players to beat with new top-end loot rewards for finishing it. And in each of these updates we do tuning and bug fixing to enhance the overall experience."Amos also teased the new heroes coming in the future, including two Hawkeyes--Kate Bishop and Clint Barton. A new Doctor Who game is coming in 2021--kind of. Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality has been announced for a Spring 2021 release on PC, Switch, PS4, and Xbox One, and it'll include Doctor Who actors Jodie Whittaker and David Tennant voicing the Doctors they play in the series. It'll be a first-person adventure game. The Edge of Reality is not an all-new game, as it's based on the 2019 VR title Doctor Who: The Edge of Time. Unlike past Doctor Who titles, this one actually felt like Doctor Who, so Edge of Reality could be quite good, too.According to the game's official site, Edge of Reality will feature "brand-new gameplay, new monsters and new worlds to explore." The site also says that the game will "continue the story that began in The Edge of Time," so fans of the original will hopefully get something new out of this version. A trailer has been released, too, and you can check it out below. It does not contain any gameplay footage, though.The game is being built with next-gen systems in mind, according to the official site; while PS5 and Xbox Series X versions have not been announced, it will be playable on those systems through backwards compatibility. A new Doctor Who game for mobile devices and Switch has also been announced. It's called The Lonely Assassins, and it's a "found phone" game, where you explore a phone to uncover a mystery. The Outer Worlds is finally coming to Steam. The game, which launched on PC through the Epic Games Store and Xbox Game Pass in October 2019, will soon be available through Valve's storefront--it will release for Steam on October 24.(This is the Obsidian-developed RPG, not the space-faring Outer Wilds; you'd be forgiven for confusing the two, especially since both launched on Epic rather than Steam.)The game, which recently released its first expansion, is available through Xbox Game Pass for Xbox One too, and can be purchased on PS4 and Switch. Two of the biggest names behind the Wonder Woman films are working together again on something new. Gal Gadot will play Cleopatra in a period drama about the Egyptian ruler in a new film directed by Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins.Paramount Pictures won the auction for the movie after an auction with Universal, Warner Bros., Netflix, and Apple said to be in the mix, according to a report from Deadline. The new film will be written by Laeta Kalogridis, who wrote the Martin Scorsese movie Shutter Island. She also co-wrote the script for Alita: Battle Angel and created the Netflix show Altered Carbon.Pitches to studios were made over Zoom calls, according to Deadline. Nintendo is holding another encore Splatfest in Splatoon 2 this month. The game's Halloween-themed event, Splatoween, is returning on October 30, and you'll have another chance to snag some spooky headgear in the lead up to the competition.Unlike a typical Splatfest, Splatoween is a two-day event. Nintendo has released a new update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This patch is another fairly minor one; it doesn't introduce any new content, but rather primarily addresses a small handful of issues that have cropped up in the game following its big 1.5 update late last month.According to the patch notes on Nintendo's support website, New Horizons' 1.5.1 update resolves a couple of bugs, including one where Nook Miles keywords would not appear in the passport list, and another that caused villagers to talk about pumpkins when they were given a bamboo shoot. Square Enix has revealed when Final Fantasy XIV's next big content update will drop. During its latest Letter from the Producer broadcast, the publisher confirmed that Patch 5.4, titled Futures Rewritten, will arrive in early December, and it'll introduce a wealth of additional content for the Shadowbringers expansion.Among other things, Patch 5.4 will add new main story quests. As Square Enix describes, "Following the grand conclusion of the Shadowbringers story in Patch 5.3, players will set out on a new adventure" in the December update. The patch will also introduce the third installment in the Eden raid series, as well as the next chapter in the Sorrow of Werlyt questline.Beyond that, Patch 5.4 will also bring the dreaded Emerald Weapon to Final Fantasy XIV. Players will be able to challenge it in both normal and extreme difficulties. There will also be a new dungeon, Matoya's Relict, which is going to be part of the new main story questline. Hulu has two Marvel TV shows on the horizon, MODOK--which looks like Robot Chicken with Marvel villains--and Helstrom, a horror series landing on the service on October 16. During New York Comic-Con's panel for Helstrom, the cast and crew discussed making this show feel different from other gothic shows on TV.Showrunner Paul Zbyszewski spoke openly about putting a new spin on the exorcism trope, as the show follows an ethics professor exorcising demons when he has one of his own inside of him. "You know whenever you're attacking something like this, you go 'What do we bring to it that people haven't seen before? What's new? What's different? What's the thing you don't expect?' Zbyszewski explained. "And also, does that feel true to the characters and the story we're trying to tell? So it's kind of interesting that a demon is coming in as an exorcist to get rid of other demons, and that's how I approached it."While Helstrom is a horror show, one of the very few times Marvel and the genre have crossed paths, Zbyszewski went on to say that this show does pay homage to past horror films as there are many Easter eggs throughout the show." I have to give props to the director of our first episode Dana Reed, who was phenomenal. Terrific. Her approach coming at this was very traditional horror. There are shots in the first episode--as you've seen the scene of Damon coming up the stairs--the framing of that by Bernard Couture also our Director of photography. Just a master and artist paints the frame, Dana and Bernard really looked at what is classic [horror] and how do we mimic that style and tone and feel? And that was their approach, which I just love. The Epic Games vs. Apple trial isn't set to begin until next year, and in the meantime, there was concern that Apple would disable Unreal Engine support on its devices. This would leave a huge number of developers without the ability to maintain or develop games on iOS and Mac, but a judge has stepped in. The creator of the original PlayStation console is back to make new machines, though they probably aren't what you'd expect. Ken Kutaragi has moved from video games to robots, and he aims to help human workers with factory jobs.Speaking to Bloomberg, Kutaragi explained that as CEO of Ascent Robotics, a company founded in 2016, he is not receiving a salary and wants to solve problems caused by the pandemic.
