Like the PS4, PS2, and PS1 before it, Sony is expecting that the PlayStation 5 will reach 100 million units sold during its lifecycle. Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki shared the figure during a recent financial presentation, as reported by Financial Times (via GamesRadar). If the PS5 can reach 100 million units sold during its lifetime, it would join the PS1, PS2, and PS4 in reaching that mark, according to Sony's publicly listed data. The PS3 is the only one of Sony's major home consoles to not reach that figure; it had sold 87.4 million units as of March 2017, which is the latest date that Sony reported. The PSP, meanwhile, sold 76.4 million units worldwide as of March 2012.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

In 2020, most of us buy more digital content than physical, whether it's music, games, movies, or even TV. Despite how much is available on streaming subscriptions, lots of very new and very old content requires an individual purchase. When you buy a Blu-ray, you can come home and put it on your shelf or hide it under your mattress. What about those digital purchases? Amazon says you don't actually own that thing you just bought from them, according to a motion filed in a California lawsuit.California resident Amada Caudel sued Amazon in April, claiming that the company "secretly reserves the right" to revoke access to purchased content on Prime Video. Amazon filed a motion this week to dismiss Caudel's claim.First, the company discredited Caudel herself, stating that she not only hasn't lost access to any content purchased through the application, but that she's purchased 13 additional titles since filing the suit.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

When Microsoft announced the Xbox Series X back in December 2019, people immediately roasted its design for looking like a refrigerator. Microsoft took the comments in stride, embracing the chatter with its own memes. This went even further recently when Microsoft created an actual Xbox Series X refrigerator that it sent to Snoop Dogg and other people. You can win one of these fridges, but the odds are you will get shut out. However, Xbox marketing director Aaron Greenberg has now teased that Microsoft might release a mini-fridge version of the Xbox Series X refrigerator for everyone to buy. He asked his nearly 200,000 followers if they would be interested in buying an Xbox mini-fridge, and people resoundingly responded positively.Help me out here for some market research. Q: Would you be interested in buying an Xbox Mini-Fridge if we made one for sale? — Aaron Greenberg 🙅🏼‍♂️❎ (@aarongreenberg) October 28, 2020Of course, this is not confirmation that Microsoft will release an Xbox-branded mini-fridge at all, or anytime soon. But it would be a pretty brilliant and self-aware piece of branded marketing for Xbox. The company is known for this, too, as it previously released a line of Xbox onesies following a positive reaction to what was a silly marketing stunt.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Xbox Series X and S consoles are going to be sold out at retail this year, and that's something Xbox boss Phil Spencer has now apologized for.In an appearance on the Dropped Frames podcast, Spencer said demand will outstrip supply for the new consoles this year and beyond. He said stock shortages will continue "for a few months" after release."We know what our supply will look like basically for the rest of the year. We're going to have more demand than we do supply," Spencer said. "And I will apologize in advance to people for that. We saw it with pre-orders, how much energy there was, and we were basically out [of stock] in a couple of hours, which is unfortunate. I think we are going to live in that world for a few months. We're going to have a lot more demand than we do supply."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat sequel, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, was a big success for Amazon, racking up "tens of millions" of views right out of the gate. However, the film was not originally planned for a digital release, it seems.Deadline reports that Baron Cohen and director Jason Woliner filmed the movie with Universal Pictures with an eye on releasing it in theatres just before the US election. However, the COVID-19 pandemic led to a change in plans, and Universal gave Baron Cohen the go-ahead to shop it to streamers.Amazon won out in the end, paying a reported $80 million for the film--and that's before the marketing budget--according to Deadline's report. Sources told the site that Borat 2 was a gigantic success for Amazon, becoming the biggest Amazon Prime movie ever, presumably in terms of views.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Amid all the exciting action games announced or shown in the latest Nintendo Direct Mini, one game stood out for how relaxing it looked. Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is, effectively, the latest game in the long-running Harvest Moon series (due to some complicated rights issues that necessitated a name change), and it looks lovely. The game has a familiar set-up: you play as a character who has decided to take over their grandfather's run-down farm, cleaning it up and becoming a member of the community, leaving your city life behind. It sounds a lot like Stardew Valley, which was, of course, inspired by Harvest Moon.As of right now, the game has only been announced for Nintendo Switch.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

During Nintendo's most recent Direct Mini presentation, a new game dropped on the Switch Eshop--well, kind of. The game, Part Time UFO, was released on mobile in 2018--but the Switch version comes with various new features.Part Time UFO, from Kirby developer HAL Laboratory, casts players as Jobski, a sentient UFO catcher who just wants to help out. Each level in the game features different objectives to complete, and as you progress you unlock money that can be spent on perks to improve your performance. This Switch version has a co-op feature, letting you play levels with a friend, as well as a new, more difficult set of levels after the main campaign is done.Watch the trailer below, but beware--the game's theme song is a real earworm. You'll notice a little cameo from some Kirby characters in the trailer, so there could potentially be some other Nintendo-specific content in the game. Back in 2018, Part Time UFO was one of GameSpot's five mobile games of the year. It was described as "exactly the kind of charming game you'd expect from HAL Laboratory: easy to pick up, devilishly difficult to put down."Info from Gamespot.com

Path of Exile has delayed its 3.13 endgame expansion out of December, but not because developer Grinding Gear Games won't be able to complete it by then. Instead, it's been delayed because of an entirely different delay--Cyberpunk 2077 moving its release date to December 10 has messed up their plans."We were previously targeting a launch date of December 11 for our 3.13 end-game expansion," the developer said on its forum. However, now that Cyberpunk 2077 is releasing at the same time, the developer is pushing the update back to January."We still expect to finish 3.13 by early/mid-December," the post reads. "The scope of this expansion will remain unchanged. During the month of delay before release, we will start work on the 3.14 expansion."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

By this point, nearly four years into the Switch's life cycle, Nintendo has repackaged almost all of Wii U's most noteworthy games for the system's successor, with only a handful of holdovers yet to make the jump. Pikmin 3 is the latest Wii U gem to be dusted off and repurposed for Switch, and like other "deluxe" offerings, it arrives on the hybrid console packed together with all of its original DLC and a smattering of new content--in this case, a handful of additional missions starring series mainstays Olimar and Louie--making this the definitive version of one of the company's most underrated titles.Although the side story missions are the biggest selling point, Pikmin 3 has actually received a fair number of other tweaks in its move to Switch as well. There are new difficulty options, a hint system that helpfully nudges wayward players in the right direction, and other additions like badges--unlockable achievements that are doled out upon completing specific tasks or reaching certain milestones. These nips and tucks don't radically alter the experience for returning players, but they do help make the game more inviting for newcomers, especially those who may not already be familiar with the series.Even without any dramatic touch-ups, Pikmin 3 remains just as delightful now as when it first premiered more than seven years ago, thanks to its wonderfully idiosyncratic blend of strategy and adventure. The centerpiece of the package is the Story mode, which begins--just as previous games did--with a crash landing. This time around, you take control of three new explorers named Alph, Brittany, and Charlie, who embark on an expedition across the cosmos in search of food for their starving planet. En route, their spaceship is struck by a meteor, sending the crew plummeting to the planet of the Pikmin, and it falls to you to reunite the explorers, navigate the planet's perils, and retrieve enough food to save their home world.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Watch Dogs: Legion releases on Thursday, October 29. While we reviewed the game on PC, other outlets playing the Xbox One version have encountered overheating issues on Xbox One X. Ubisoft says it plans to release an update on October 30 that's intended to resolve the issue. Watch Dogs: Legion takes the foundations and ideas of its predecessors and expands upon them exponentially. The core conceit of Legion lies in the old adage of "strength in numbers," which manifests in the game letting you recruit and play as nearly any character you come across, amassing a ragtag crew of freedom fighters. This open-ended stance to fighting the system is a significant change for the franchise, and it's bolstered by improved hacking and social-engineering gameplay. Legion's approach, while admirable, does have some unintended issues that make its powerful message of unity waver at inopportune times, but it still manages to make a profound statement about hope with its novel approach to player agency.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Ring of Pain is a roguelike card game that's too damned creepy to not live rent-free in your head long after you're finished. You play as someone trapped in darkness, unsure of who can help you out and who intends to lead you into ruin. The constant uncertainty leaves you always second-guessing yourself, while the action manages to keep you firmly in the moment as you juggle satisfying risk-reward choices. This balance of feeling both powerful and vulnerable--but in different ways depending on your choices--manages to shake up potentially repetitive attempts to navigate the rings of cards in your efforts to escape this eerie, unsettling world. Each run in Ring of Pain starts out largely the same: It's just you and a circle of cards that probably want to kill you. Two cards in the circle are in the foreground and can be viewed and interacted with immediately. Cards feature an interesting array of spooky creatures that can be fought or dodged, items to be collected and equipped, stat boosts, potions, curses, or doors to be passed through into another new dungeon ring. There’s a menagerie of different cards to come across, which keeps you constantly on your toes and never too sure of what to expect--but there are still patterns and hints to the madness, such as themed dungeons that keep things purposeful rather than totally random. The rings cycle through depending on your actions--you might find a card that shuffles the ring, or a card might cycle itself through the ring to chase you--and how you choose to navigate them will determine your play style. You don't have to clear a ring to move to the next stage, just to get to a door. You have your own base stats, which change based on the items and boosts you find and equip. It’s best to think of yourself as a sort of customizable creature card with slots augmented by what you find. Most of the equipment will have basic stat augments, but others will offer interesting strategies like gaining health from curses or knocking back creatures after an attack. Each little factor can greatly determine how effective you are in satisfying ways that alter available strategies. The knock-back ability can make slow but devastatingly strong enemies a total non-issue as they no longer have a chance to attack, while without it even sneaking past them can be risky business.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

American Gods, the Starz fantasy drama adapted from Neil Gaiman's 2001 novel of the same name, will be returning for Season 3 starting January 10.The big news came from Gaiman himself on Twitter, who tweeted image excerpts of a longer explanation: "When we embarked upon making Season 3 of American Gods, we had no idea how timely it would turn out to be… [We wanted] to explore what 'America' means to its people and talk about immigrants--about the very different people who came to this remarkable land and brought their gods with them."Everything you wanted to know about when American Gods Series 3 is starting in the US. (I've seen finished cuts of the first 4 episodes and rough cuts of all of them. It's really good.) (And it starts internationally the following day.) pic.twitter.com/6YMnL9vEzn — Neil Gaiman (@neilhimself) October 27, 2020Without offering much beyond the broadest of strokes on what's ahead in Season 3, Gaiman also added that "the struggles of the gods and the people in Season 3 of American Gods are the struggles of America." Throughout his update, the author marvels at how surprisingly relevant the themes explored in the upcoming season are--especially for a work rooted in a novel that was written over 20 years ago. His hopes are the stories in the show, along with broader diverse stories being heard and honored, will be "allowed to change the future." Here's a look at a teaser trailer that was released earlier this month.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
