The Far Cry series has been one of Ubisoft's most defining open-world action-adventure franchises, focusing on exploration and fighting hostile forces in exotic locales. In Far Cry 6, the franchise heads to a new location known as Yara, loosely based on the island and history of Cuba. Set during a political and social revolution, Yara's citizens begin their campaign to overthrow the cruel dictator Presidente Castillo. Here's everything we know about Far Cry 6 so far.For more on other upcoming new games, check out our most anticipated games of 2021.The Story So FarThough previous entries in the Far Cry series have had some loose connections, Far Cry 6 is an entirely standalone game that doesn't have many ties to the previous games. This is likely for the best, considering Far Cry 5 and its spin-off New Dawn unexpectedly brought the series into the post-apocalyptic setting. Far Cry 6 takes place in the present, with the modern world still intact. However, this game's setting is on the island of Yara, a country isolated from the rest of the world due to economic sanctions, as the developers explained in a talk with GameSpot shortly after the reveal Playing as a native of Yara who joins the rebel forces, you'll make your way through the island dismantling the country's systems of power before facing off against Presidente Anton Castillo, who's played by Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian actor Giancarlo Esposito.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

And let's not forget; Nintendo just might use this year to release the long-rumored upgrade to the Switch--we think as much, at least. Whatever may happen, time will tell (or we will in our predictions)! In GameSpot's annual prediction series, we've put our brains together to determine what could happen next year in the world of games. While our accuracy in predicting the future isn't always on the mark, it still won't stop us from speculating.Below you can find our gaming predictions for 2021. Isn't it a little funny that we've heard more about Elden Ring in 2020 from Xbox head Phil Spencer than from the actual developers behind the game? Developer From Software sure is keeping details about Elden Ring close to the chest, but we do know a bit about the upcoming game. From Software is developing the game in collaboration with Game Of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, telling a story where you're exploring an open world full of different kingdoms that are each ruled by a powerful entity. When you defeat a ruler, you gain their unique power--a system that sounds like (but isn't confirmed to be) how you can acquire the abilities and weapons of Dark Souls bosses by transfiguring their souls. When talking to GameSpot, Spencer said, "As somebody who's played all of Miyazaki's games over at least the last decade, [Elden Ring] is clearly the most ambitious game that he's done. I mean, I love his games, but seeing some of the gameplay mechanics stuff that he's tackling, he and the team are tackling this time, of the setting, working with another creator in terms of story. I love it."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

One of the major announcements during the PlayStation 5 reveal stream earlier in 2020 was Final Fantasy XVI. With a lengthy trailer that set the mood and showcased a bit of gameplay, there was a lot to parse for the next mainline entry in the storied franchise. Many mainstays of Final Fantasy lore were put front and center, and you can catch glimpses of how this new game is building off of the series' broader history and its recent past.In addition to the relatively detailed reveal trailer, Square Enix also launched an official website that contains in-depth looks at FFXVI's new world and characters to get you started on understanding the backstory. What's notable about this entry, in particular, is that it's being developed by Creative Business Unit III--which is the not-so-flashy name for the division behind the incredible MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV. It's promising given that Naoki Yoshida is leading production on FFXVI--he led the team behind the rebirth of FFXIV and continues to direct the MMO, which keeps getting better and is regarded as top-tier in its storytelling. FFXVI itself is being directed by Hiroshi Takai, who has a lengthy history with Final Fantasy and Square Enix, and he was even part of developing FFXIV's reboot. We're still a ways away from the launch of FFXVI, but Yoshida-san has stated that a major reveal of new information on the game is coming in 2021. You can catch up on everything we know so far in the rest of this article. You should also check out our most anticipated games of 2021, or...you can read about how there's never been a better time to get into FFXIV! Back when Destiny first came out in 2014, one of the things that it most struggled with was telling the story of its vast and strange world. Set in a distant, alien-filled post-apocalypse in which flying robot flashlights resurrect the dead to turn them into immortal superheroes, Destiny packed so much seemingly random stuff into its original campaign that it was truly challenging to follow.Part of what made Destiny 1 kind of a mess was that while you were being bombarded with all of those worldbuilding elements, Bungie decided to tell about half of one story, toss it out midway, and start another one. And that was all the fault of a weird character who showed up, pointed you at a new threat, famously gave you no explanation, and then disappeared for years: the Exo Stranger. With Destiny 2's Beyond Light expansion, we've finally seen the return of the Exo Stranger six years later. Along with her return, Bungie is, at long last, taking the time to explain. In fact, there's a whole lot of story baked into Beyond Light--and it all finally fills in the gaps of what happened in Destiny 1. In a big way, Beyond Light just recontextualized everything that has happened in Destiny up to now, upending our understanding of the story. After six years, Destiny 1's story kind of makes sense now.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

One of the biggest mysteries surrounding Wonder Woman 1984 has been the return of Chris Pine's Steve Trevor, a character who heroically sacrificed his life back in the first Wonder Woman film, set during World War I. In the trailers, however, we've been able to clearly see that Steve is back and seemingly completely fine here in the '80s, with Diana showing him around and cracking all sorts of jokes about everything that's changed for him.In our review, we singled out the much-needed feel good message of the film--which of course, includes Steve's arc in the movie. "Wonder Woman 1984 features some cheesy-looking CGI effects and some even cheesier messages. But it's also an improvement on the original in some key ways--where the first movie concluded with Wonder Woman literally punching the anthropomorphized concept of War in the face, WW84's climactic showdown is much more nuanced. The message--that every individual person on the planet has a shared responsibility for the common good--gets slightly muddled in the end, but it's also the exact one we need right now. And Wonder Woman 1984 is the exact film you'll want to sit down and watch with family, friends, and loved ones this holiday--even if you're doing so over Zoom."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

After a handful of major release date delays, Wonder Woman 1984 is finally here--and you don't even have to leave the comfort of your home to watch it. It's streaming on HBO Max for the price of a subscription.Chances are, if you've already made time to watch, you've got a few questions about the ending and what it all might mean for the DCEU moving forward. Or, maybe you're just a spoiler-hound looking for all the answers before you even sit down to see the movie through. We're not here to judge you if that's the case, but we will get into the ending here so, naturally, massive spoilers for WW84 from here on out. Consider yourself warned.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

If you've been waiting for the sweet embrace of a new season of Cobra Kai, and you're counting down the days until January 8, 2021, then stop counting because that's no longer the release date for the new season. Netflix has announced Season 3 of Cobra Kai will land on January 1, 2021. To celebrate the release, Netflix has a new video featuring Johnny Lawrence using a computer. That's right, you'll be able to strike hard, strike fast with no mercy as you click "play" as hard as possible on your controller--possibly breaking it. Earlier this month, the first trailer arrived for the new season--which had its first two season premieres on YouTube Premium before moving to Netflix earlier this year. The end of Season 2 left one person in the hospital and a local high school torn apart--literally--as a karate riot saw students from Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence's dojos at each other's throats. In addition to the earlier release date, Netflix has announced that the cast of Cobra Kai will join The Netflix Afterparty on January 2, to discuss the third season with hosts David Spade, Fortune Feimster, and London Hughes.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Miles Morales and his mom Rio just moved into a new apartment in Harlem. There's still a lot to unpack in their rooms, and you can learn so much about them by looking around and examining their possessions. But the living room and kitchen are all put together, and Rio is going all-out to prepare a big Christmas dinner for herself, Miles, and a few family friends. It's a heartwarming scene where you have to do a few chores like put on some music, light the Christmas tree, and make sure Ganke cleans up the damn mess he made spilling soup on the rug. What's most important here is that it's a rich display of culture, language, and food that celebrates the Morales' Puerto Rican heritage.Anyone who has played Spider-Man: Miles Morales will remember this part of the game--not necessarily for the fact that Miles has to get the power back on by using his Spidey skills while no one's looking, but because it draws you into a cozy winter vibe of a snow-covered New York City. It's a powerful moment of character building--you hear Miles and Rio speak Spanish to each other and you can see the Puerto Rican cuisine prepared and being cooked. It's an invitation to see Miles' Boricua roots first hand, and a striking piece of representation for those who share Boricua roots or relate through other Latin-American cultures, all over a nice dinner for the holidays. And for me, after I spoke to my mom to let her know I couldn't come home for Christmas this year, these moments in the game became much more bittersweet. As I walked through that scene, it reminded me of home and my mom, a reflection of the 20-plus years in the past I spent with her during Christmastime. Rio is on the phone speaking Spanish while she's cooking, just like how my mom would talk chismis in Tagalog over the phone with my aunties, acting like I wouldn't understand what she was saying. Some of the food you see on the counter and being cooked closely resembles Filipino dishes I always had growing up, too.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Fable series is about to be reborn on Xbox Series X|S. We know that, because Microsoft told us so during its Xbox Series X showcase, throwing in a reveal trailer for a new Fable game along with a number of other titles. Sadly, though, info about the return of the beloved action-RPG series is extremely thin otherwise. We've run down all the details currently out there about Fable (which is often referred to as Fable 4 as the follow-up to the original game series, although we don't know if that number is reflective of where the game will fit in the franchise). It's not much, but you can be sure that we'll keep you apprised of any new details as Microsoft makes them available.Fable Release Date And PlatformsSadly, we know next to nothing about when Fable will actually be available to play (or much of anything else, for that matter). Microsoft's website for the game lists no date, but does run down what machines you can expect to play Fable on when it does eventually arrive. Fable will be available on the Xbox Series X and Series S, as well as on PC. Given that all first-party Microsoft titles also appear on Game Pass at launch, we can expect Fable to be part of that subscription service as well.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

At The Game Awards 2020, viewers were surprised with an announcement trailer for a brand-new Mass Effect game. Currently unnamed, the new Mass Effect looks like a direct sequel to Mass Effect 3, though if you break down the trailer further, there are hints it could be a follow-up to Mass Effect: Andromeda as well.Developer BioWare had already confirmed that it was working on a new Mass Effect alongside Dragon Age 4 and Anthem 2.0, but the Game Awards trailer is our first official view of what the game could be about. Admittedly, it's not much--the trailer showcases two galaxies, zooms in on the Milky Way, plays radio transmissions that showcase humanity's evolution when it comes to space travel, and then finally focuses on an icy planet. On this planet, we see a hooded figure ascend a destroyed Reaper, where they find a piece of N7 armor among the snow and ice. The figure then pulls back their hood to reveal that it's Liara T'Soni, a returning character from the original trilogy, and the camera refocuses to show that she's joined on this expedition by three other figures, though their identities can't be made out. Because Liara is an asari--a race of aliens that appear youthful for centuries and live for close to 1000 years--and she's only 109 in Mass Effect 3, we can't actually use her appearance to estimate how much time has passed. It kind of feels like BioWare specifically chose to feature only her in the new game's first trailer for that very purpose.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Happy holidays from the Wrestle Buddies, the hosts of GameSpot's professional wrestling podcast. Gearing up for The Buddiesies--our annual award show--Mat and Chris are taking a week to dive into a very dumb WWE toy from the late '90s. Also, it's the return of WrestlePiece Theater.Kicking things off, a few weeks back, Chris picked up a WWE toy from eBay, and it brought him a lot of joy, so Mat tried the same thing. However, Mat's journey to joy was rough as he purchased something called WWF Bangerz--he wanted Pogs but those were too expensive. Mat opens up these Bangerz and tries to learn how to play them. At first, it seems like a pretty dumb game; however, Mat can't stop playing.Following that, there's one last fun trick up our sleeves, as we have the final WrestlePiece Theater for 2020. Reenacting one of the most famous promos pre-Attitude Era are some of GameSpot After Dark's and We Enjoy Wrestling's hosts. Kallie Plagge, Tamoor Hussain, Chastity Vicencio, Matt Fowler, and Eric Goldman all lend their talents to voice "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Why did Fowler choose a British accent? The world may never know.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
