At The Game Awards 2020, viewers were surprised with an announcement trailer for a brand-new Mass Effect game. Currently unnamed, the new Mass Effect looks like a direct sequel to Mass Effect 3, though if you break down the trailer further, there are hints it could be a follow-up to Mass Effect: Andromeda as well.Developer BioWare had already confirmed that it was working on a new Mass Effect alongside Dragon Age 4 and Anthem 2.0, but the Game Awards trailer is our first official view of what the game could be about. Admittedly, it's not much--the trailer showcases two galaxies, zooms in on the Milky Way, plays radio transmissions that showcase humanity's evolution when it comes to space travel, and then finally focuses on an icy planet. On this planet, we see a hooded figure ascend a destroyed Reaper, where they find a piece of N7 armor among the snow and ice. The figure then pulls back their hood to reveal that it's Liara T'Soni, a returning character from the original trilogy, and the camera refocuses to show that she's joined on this expedition by three other figures, though their identities can't be made out. Because Liara is an asari--a race of aliens that appear youthful for centuries and live for close to 1000 years--and she's only 109 in Mass Effect 3, we can't actually use her appearance to estimate how much time has passed. It kind of feels like BioWare specifically chose to feature only her in the new game's first trailer for that very purpose.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Happy holidays from the Wrestle Buddies, the hosts of GameSpot's professional wrestling podcast. Gearing up for The Buddiesies--our annual award show--Mat and Chris are taking a week to dive into a very dumb WWE toy from the late '90s. Also, it's the return of WrestlePiece Theater.Kicking things off, a few weeks back, Chris picked up a WWE toy from eBay, and it brought him a lot of joy, so Mat tried the same thing. However, Mat's journey to joy was rough as he purchased something called WWF Bangerz--he wanted Pogs but those were too expensive. Mat opens up these Bangerz and tries to learn how to play them. At first, it seems like a pretty dumb game; however, Mat can't stop playing.Following that, there's one last fun trick up our sleeves, as we have the final WrestlePiece Theater for 2020. Reenacting one of the most famous promos pre-Attitude Era are some of GameSpot After Dark's and We Enjoy Wrestling's hosts. Kallie Plagge, Tamoor Hussain, Chastity Vicencio, Matt Fowler, and Eric Goldman all lend their talents to voice "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Why did Fowler choose a British accent? The world may never know.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra has revealed in a CNBC interview that Sony's various divisions will be working together more closely in the future--including more TV shows and movies based on PlayStation franchises. While he didn't specify which games are being adapted, he revealed that there are currently three films and seven TV shows in the works at Sony Pictures based on PlayStation games. While the interview was mainly about Sony Pictures' plans to continue with more traditional theatrical release schedules into 2021, in opposition to Warner Bros' plans to release theatrically and digitally at the same time, Vinciquerra also talked about how Sony cooperates between its different divisions."We have a program within the company called One Sony," he explained. "We've seen lots of things happening in that regard--for instance, the Uncharted movie, which we shot completely during the pandemic and will be released next year based on a Sony Playstation IP."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Last year, Nintendo launched a year in review tool for Switch players to look back on how much time they'd spent playing games on the hybrid console. Now it's back for 2020--a year that's seen the Switch take off in popularity as the pandemic has forced us all to stay inside and seek solace in the quaint world of Animal Crossing.Switch owners in the US and Canada (but sadly not other regions) can log in here and have a look back on their 2020 with the Switch. Nintendo's tool will show you a bunch of stats, including how much time you spent on the Switch in total, and how many games you played over 2020.It'll break down how much of that time was spent in different games, too, so you can find out which game dominated your time in 2020. The stats breakdown will also show how many hours you spent gaming per month--which is likely to align closely with the time you spent in lockdowns or social distancing.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Among Us has been 2020's biggest surprise hit, taking Twitch by storm and even getting some play time from US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Now, according to a report released by Nielsen's SuperData, it could be considered one of the most popular games ever in terms of active players. The report shows that Among Us clocked over half a billion active users just in the month of November, which SuperData says makes it the most popular game ever by this metric. Despite these huge numbers, however, Among Us doesn't even crack the top ten games of the month by earnings, due to its low level of monetization. "The PC version (which has a $5 upfront price) accounted for the majority of revenue from August to November (64%)," the report adds. "Despite having an extremely small share of the total player base (3% in November)."Among Us' popularity in November was likely helped by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's record-breaking Twitch stream of the game in late October, which was then followed by a second stream at the end of November. The social deception game has found widespread popularity among game streamers at all levels of fame in 2020, even leading to the cancellation of a planned sequel so the team could focus on the first game.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The KFConsole is real, and it keeps your chicken warm.Intel's Mark Walton clarified that the console is legitimate on Twitter, saying it's powered by Intel. Other game consoles are generally powered by AMD processors. Yes it's real. Yes, it's powered by Intel. Last month, Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama announced he had founded a new company called Bokeh Game Studio with veteran developers from games like Gravity Rush and The Last Guardian. Now, we have learned more about Toyama's first project, and it should appeal to Silent Hill fans.In an interview with IGN Japan, Toyama said his new game would be an action-adventure game rather than a standard survival-horror experience. However, he said it would "appeal to fans of [his] previous work," quite clearly referencing Silent Hill. That series has been on ice for several years now, with Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro's collaborative Silent Hills project being canceled in 2015. The demo, PT, was deleted from the PlayStation Store, and PS4 consoles that have it installed have become valuable. "If anything, this will be more of a horror-oriented game," Toyama added. "But we will focus on making this a broader entertainment experience rather than a hardcore horror game."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Amazon's big-budget Lord of the Rings TV series has apparently finished filming in New Zealand. According to a December 22 Instagram post by director JA Bayona, he has taken his "last photo in New Zealand… and I can't wait to be back." The director has consistently taken to the photo-sharing platform to provide updates on how the production has been faring with various milestones.Despite New Zealand being pretty much the only place on this planet that was largely unaffected by COVID-19, it still caused a few delays for the production. The country had extremely strict rules on who can enter the country, and in July, the country's government granted "border exemptions" for certain international film and TV productions. As of late 2019, the show had reportedly completed shooting the first two episodes. Given that even before airing, it was announced that the series will be getting two seasons, it is highly likely Bayona will be back in New Zealand sooner rather than later.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

With Warner Bros releasing its tentpole features next year in a hybrid release of limited theatrical and streaming on HBO Max, it looks like Dune might be getting only a theatrical run instead. Earlier in December, Dune director Denis Villeneuve published an essay airing his anger and disappointment with the studio and how they have "no love for cinema or the audiences."However, Dune could be saved due to the "franchise potential" of the feature film and the internal warring within Legendary as Deadline is reporting that Villeneuve could get his wish after all."There is a big fight that might result in lawsuits after it financed 75% of tentpoles Dune and Godzilla Vs. Kong and was completely blindsided. Rumors have the solution to that breach being to preserve Dune as a traditional theatrical to preserve its franchise potential," the report read.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
