How ubiquitous is Disney? They can make high-budget films inspired by their decades-old theme park rides, and no one even bats an eye. When Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl released in 2003 the conventional wisdom was that pirate movies, let alone one based on a 1967 boat ride, were box office poison. A $4.5 billion combined gross dispelled that notion.Disney has established the formula for making this unlikely sort of adaptation work: Keep things light and fast paced, throw in enough Easter Eggs to please the die-hards, and cast an A-List actor to anchor it. But still, no ride-based movie has ever been as successful as Pirates. The Haunted Mansion, Tomorrowland, Mission to Mars, and The Country Bears all underperformed. Could the latest attempted ride adaptation, Jungle Cruise, succeed where those movies failed?Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

There's a big pile of money over there, and all you have to do is walk over to it--the twist is that there are 300 meters of water between you and the money, and you have to walk. That's the premise of The Bridge, the new reality show heading for HBO Max next week, as explained in the first trailer.Narrated by James McAvoy (Split, X-Men: First Class), The Bridge is described as a "social experiment bringing together 12 strangers from all over the United Kingdom." There's a prize of €100.000 waiting on an island 300 meters away. Competitors will receive a few basic tools and some supplies, but otherwise are on their own and must reach the island within 21 days. The contestants have to work together, but only one contestant can walk away with the money. The show is based off a Spanish show called El Puente--literally "The Bridge"--which ran for two seasons in Spain. We've seen countless reality shows come and go, but there's a case for absurd reality shows from other countries doing well here in the west. Survivor began life in the late '90s in Sweden as Expedition Robinson before heading over here and turning into a monstrous success. The Masked Singer made its way from South Korea to find big ratings in the United States, too. The Bridge isn't quite American, with McAvoy narrating and UK contestants competing, but if it hits the right audience, you can bet we'll see The Bridge: America before too long.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Electronic Arts will decide the fate of Anthem in the near future, according to a report. The publisher will supposedly make a call on whether the campaign to reboot Anthem after its disappointing launch is still worth the effort or if it should be scrapped altogether.According to Bloomberg, EA executives plan to review the latest version of Anthem this week. The project to revamp Anthem is currently being worked on by 30 people, but developer BioWare supposedly needs closer to 90 in order to finish reworking Anthem's original gameplay and also add new content. So EA has to decide whether to invest that time and resources.Anthem had a rocky launch--the game released with bugs that crashed PS4s, a section of the campaign that required unenjoyable farming, an update that briefly broke the game, and an unsatisfying loot acquisition loop. BioWare has been attempting to overhaul Anthem in hopes of a successful comeback, similar to Hello Games' No Man's Sky and Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIV.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

While there is plenty of variety on The CW's roster of DC universe TV shows, it's hard to argue that they are not all action-first. Whether it's The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, Supergirl, or Batwoman, these series spend the majority of their time with superheroes in colorful costumes saving the universe time and time again. While that's not a bad thing, Superman & Lois, which premieres on February 23, is looking to change up the formula. While the series, which sees Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprise their roles as Clark Kent and Lois Lane from a variety of Arrow-verse crossovers, is set in the same universe and will definitely see Superman flying around and battling evil, it's first and foremost a family drama. In fact, when developing the series, showrunner Todd Helbing wasn't looking at another superhero series for inspiration."From the first conversations [executive producer] Greg Berlanti and I had, it was really, you know, 'How do we make Superman, in general, different?' And we talked a lot about shows like Everwood and Friday Night Lights," Helbing said during the TCA winter press tour. "[It's] a family drama that has Superman in it."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

We got our kicks in early this year when Cobra Kai Season 3, the latest in the adventures of Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso, hit Netflix on New Years' Day, and the show is doing well for Netflix, according to ratings tracking firm Nielsen.Nielsen released the latest ratings for streaming shows this week, covering the week of January 4 to January 10. Cobra Kai tops the list with viewers watching 2.1 billion minutes worth of nostalgic martial arts action in that period. Bridgerton followed with 1.6 billion hours. The list for that period is dominated almost entirely by Netflix. The only non-Netflix show to make the list is The Mandalorian in 6th place.Original content dominated, with streams of acquired shows--stuff from Network and Cable TV--like Criminal Minds, Grey's Anatomy, and Schitt's Creek clocking in less than half the stream time of Cobra Kai and Bridgerton. Nielsen SVP of Product Strategy Brian Fuhrer points out that Netflix's acquired Spanish-language series, Mariposa De Barrio, is a standout on the list of acquired shows otherwise filled out by popular American programs. Disney+ did significantly better on the cinematic front, topping out the list with Pixar's Soul, followed by Netflix's We Can Be Heroes. Moana and Frozen II made the list, too.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

It has been about a year since the start of the global pandemic, and a lot of people are staying at home playing video games. We've seen Steam's concurrent player count break its own record several times during this stretch, and the record has been broken once again.Industry analyst Piers Harding-Rolls shared the news on Twitter, showing that more than 26 million Steam users were logged in at the same time, representing an all-time peak for the service. The number was actually a little bit higher than what is listed in his tweet when we checked it out, so it looks like Steam's record could grow even larger.Steam platform concurrent users have breached 26m for the first time todayPost 1st lockdown growth in Q1 2020, new records for PCCUs have been set in Jan and Feb 2021Note: in-game CCUs have not matched the record set in March 2020 pic.twitter.com/xVhlwy780Y — Piers Harding-Rolls (@PiersHR) February 7, 2021One variable, however, is how many people are actually actively playing a game at that time. This record was not broken today, though it inched closer than any time we've seen in nearly a year.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Many of us remember Bob Odenkirk first as a comedy guy, creating stuff like Mr. Show and writing for some of the best comedy shows, like Saturday Night Live and Late Night With Conan O'Brien. Even after his turn as Saul/Jimmy in the Breaking Bad universe, we couldn't have predicted his next move: Bob Odenkirk is officially an action badass in the second trailer for his upcoming movie Nobody.Nobody stars Odenkirk as Hutch Mansell, the very definition of a mild-mannered suburban dad. Thieves break into his house and he declines to fight back, leaving his wife and son disappointed. The frustration that follows awakens a long-dormant part of Hutch, who was once an "Auditor" and has to once again bring his skills to bear to defend his family. This latest trailer highlights Hutch's improvisational skills in the heat of battle, contrasted against him being able to cook only one meal--lasanga--as a father.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

There are now a grand total of four movies in development about the recent GameStop/Reddit stock price drama and controversy. According to Deadline, Console Wars director Jonah Tulis has started production on a feature documentary about the recent frenzied uprising that saw social media day traders beat Wall Street at its own game. Tulis will be collaborating with fellow Console Wars producer Julian Rosenberg and Console Wars author Blake Harris."This is a true David and Goliath story and our goal is to tell it through the eyes of the incredible men and women who risked it all," Tulis told Deadline. "[They] made millions in the process and changed the landscape of the stock market forever."This new, untitled, and fourth film is the latest entry in a quickly growing category of productions. Things are moving quickly for projects inspired by events that started taking place a few weeks ago in January and are still playing out. Part of what's notable about this new project and the previously, recently announced three is the real story doesn't yet have an ending. Charles Randolph, co-author of The Big Short told the Los Angeles Times that he's gotten several calls asking if he'd be interested in also writing one.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

We've been waiting a long time to find out what's next in the saga of Captain America after Steve Rogers passed the shield to his successor at the end of Avengers: Endgame, and we're now one step closer: The first full trailer for the upcoming Disney+ streaming series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has arrived, and you can watch it for yourself below. The trailer debuted in a truncated form during the Super Bowl, with this extended version appearing online shortly after. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will tell the story of Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson post-Endgame. The two appear to have developed a buddy cop-like rapport, based on their interactions in the trailer, which give us a hint to the show's tone. They aren't the only two familiar characters who appear in the trailer, though--we also catch glimpses of Captain America: Civil War villain Helmut Zemo and Sharon Carter (Peggy Carter's great niece and Steve Rogers' one-time love interest). Appropriately, there's even a shot of someone in full Captain America gear (seen only from behind) jogging out onto a football field.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Every year during the Super Bowl, we're treated to plenty of trailers for new movies and upcoming TV shows. This year, we thought the Big Game would be a bit light on these videos, considering most of the movies that were supposed to come out in 2020 were delayed because of COVID. Nevertheless, there were still plenty of spots for upcoming TV shows and films that we hadn't seen yet. From Disney+ showing off its first full trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier--which looks awesome--to a sneak peek at M. Night Shyamalan's next movie, Old, there's plenty to be excited about in the upcoming year. And this doesn't just apply to trailers for recently announced movies, while F9: The Fast Saga has been delayed for a year, we still got a new trailer for the upcoming film with some new footage. And because the past year didn't have a ton of big movie releases, we'll take what we can get.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
