Rest in peace, Battleborn--we hardly knew you ... or played you. Gearbox Software's hero shooter is going offline today for good, rendering the game unplayable more than four years after its launch. The writing has been on the wall for quite a long time now, with digital currency being removed from sale and the game already being pulled off digital stores. However, up until today, players who were still interested in Battleborn could play the game normally. That's over, with not only peer-to-peer multiplayer matches being unplayable, but also the single-player campaign.Battleborn's fate was sealed almost immediately, as it launched at nearly the exact same time as Blizzard's Overwatch. The two games are quite similar, with heroes sporting a variety of unique moves and weapons, but it was Blizzard's game that caught on. The price of Battleborn quickly fell, and Gearbox shifted, well, gears, to other games like Borderlands 3. That was a much more successful project for the studio, releasing on everything from Xbox One to Google Stadia and receiving several DLC packs.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

GoldenEye 007 is one of the best first-person shooters and licensed video games of all time, but because of a complex licensing situation that required several partners--including Nintendo--to come together, we never saw a remaster of the original game. Instead, we got a remake for the Wii several years later, but footage of a canceled Xbox 360 remaster of the 1997 version has appeared online.Posted by the YouTube channel Graslu00 and spotted by VGC, the GoldenEye 007 remaster footage shows off the entire campaign as well as some multiplayer content. It looks like the game was essentially complete before the plug was pulled, and Xbox chief Phil Spencer said Xbox has "always given up" on trying to get the rights-holders working together to publish the remaster. Rare developed the game, and the studio is now a subsidiary of Microsoft. But Nintendo published the game, and the remake was later published by Activision. What we see in the video is likely what fans wanted more than Activision's remake. The remake still had some of the same themes and characters from the first version, but it changed enough to feel like a different game.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The Medium, a game that only released a few days ago and also launched on Xbox Game Pass, has already managed to cover its production and marketing costs. Future sales will be profit for Polish developer Bloober Team, which is no stranger to bizarre and terrifying horror experiences.Shared in the Polish publication Money.pl, Bloober Team said the game's sales have already eclipsed what it cost the studio to develop and promote the game, which is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC.It's also available on Xbox Game Pass for the platforms, but unlike many other Game Pass titles, it isn't on Xbox One. This makes its profitability even more impressive, as the Xbox Series X|S has only a fraction of the install base as the older console. It's unclear how Game Pass factored into the sales figures or if it managed to turn a profit even before factoring this in. Game Pass has been extremely popular among Xbox users, and with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, they don't need a separate Xbox Live Gold subscription. First-party games such as Gears Tactics and the upcoming Halo Infinite launch on the service the same day they release in stores.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Among Us was one of the biggest gaming surprises of 2020 (despite releasing two years earlier) and developer Innersloth even scrapped plans for a sequel to continue working in the original game. This includes updating it with new content, and a brand-new map is in the works. But just when will the new Among Us map release? The main map that players know in Among Us is The Skeld, a spaceship filled with tasks to complete and plenty of ways to kill your crewmates. There are two other paid maps for the game, but the free Skeld map is what most players have experienced. They'll soon be able to play the game's fourth map--The Airship--which features more than a dozen rooms, new tasks, ladders, and the chance to choose the room you start in.When is The Airship map releasing?Innersloth has not given a firm date or even a month for The Airship to release. However, the studio did say it will arrive in early 2021, which means it could potentially be here very soon. It was confirmed during The Game Awards in December 2020. January 2021 is the start of this year's winter anime season, which means a ton of brand-new anime debuted across all the different streaming services. There are plenty of shows to enjoy but seven series in particular have managed to keep us watching beyond their respective premieres.Keep in mind, we're not saying that these seven are definitely the best anime to air this season. There are still plenty of weeks left in the winter season and any of these shows could take an unfavorable turn (or any we don't list here may recapture our attention if they have a turn for the better). But, for now, these seven anime are the ones we're enjoying the most, and we think that you will too. We're always open to hearing recommendations though, so let us know what you're currently watching--and why we should also be watching it--in the comments below.Wonder Egg PriorityAn original story, Wonder Egg Priority is one of the most gripping anime we've seen in ages. Beautiful to look at but covering topics that are often difficult to watch, this anime deals with the trauma of suicide and posits the question: How far would you go to save someone who took their own life? This is a show that comes with a load of trigger warnings--be aware that Wonder Egg Priority portrays bullying, self-cutting, fat-shaming, survivor's guilt, and group suicide, and that's only within the first three episodes. As an original story, there's no way of knowing what else is in store, all we know is that we're going to see it all the way through, as this may end up being the best anime of the season.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Friday the 13th producer and co-creator Sean Cunningham is suing distributors Warner and Paramount. Cunningham claims that the studios have "systematically misaccounted" how much the money the slasher franchise has made over the decades.According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cunningham has filed the complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court. He states that Warner and Paramount have been guilty of what is commonly known "Hollywood accounting." This is where a studio claims a movie has made far less money than it actually has by deducting additional fees and under-reporting elements like merchandising and TV revenue. As a result, profit participants, such as producers, get paid less when the movie goes into profit. Cunningham claims that the series has made more than $129 million. This is the second Friday the 13th lawsuit that Cunningham has filed in recent years. In 2016, Cunningham sued Victor Miller, who wrote the screenplay for the original movie back in 1980. Cunningham argues that Miller was just a writer for hire and has no claim on the rights to the story or characters in that first film, while Miller is seeking ownership of them. THR states that a ruling on this case is "pending."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

It's only been about three years since I had my first encounter with the Yakuza franchise, but it seems a lot longer. Many folks, including myself, picked up the series with Yakuza 0 since it was the perfect entry point to an ongoing story, one that had trouble showing off its strengths to a new audience. Since then, Sega and developer RGG Studio have made great strides in building a new life for Yakuza with the Kiwami remakes and remastering of everything else, to bring the whole series to platforms it was never on before. With the release of the Yakuza Remastered Collection (which includes Yakuza 3, 4, and 5) for PC and Xbox consoles, the effort is nearly complete. It is a bit odd to think of Yakuza finding its footing on PC and Xbox--part of me still thinks of series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu as one of the faces for PlayStation. But I share the joy that owners of these platforms, eager to continue down Kiryu's path, have that opportunity.Technically SpeakingThe good news, too, is that these Yakuza remasters run incredibly well on both PC and Xbox. It's not too much of a surprise considering that this collection rolled out on PS4 starting in 2019 with great technical results. While these are three PS3-era games with some dated assets and compressed cutscenes, each one is running much higher resolutions and frame rates, with better lighting and finer graphical detail to bring them closer to the modern entries.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Halo Infinite is set to launch across Xbox Series X, Series S, Xbox One, and PC this coming Fall, with 343 Industries saying that the latter will be a "first-class" experience.Unlike every other Halo game before it, Halo Infinite is being developed for PC in tandem with its console versions, allowing 343 Industries to apply lessons already learnt about the platform immediately. David Price, lead weapons designer at 343 Industries, explained that the Master Chief Collection's rollout on PC has helped the studio with Infinite's development."A major goal for Halo Infinite on PC is to hit that top tier PC experience that is as good or better than other shooters," explained Price "Having MCC on PC is also a great help. It allows us to get player feedback on a live PC Halo game."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Sony has now issued an update to the PlayStation Store as it appears on PS5, which adds a Deals tab to the interface. The new tab houses all the current discounts available, including ones available through your PlayStation Plus subscription. You can find the new tab in the navigation bar between the Collections and Subscriptions pages. Promoted deals appear right at the top, like the current remasters and retro games sale. You can scroll down to find Plus deals along with breakdowns by platform. The PS5 handles its store page differently than past PlayStation platforms, integrating it right into the standard interface instead of launching a separate store app. That makes for much faster loads when you want to pop out of a game to start a download, but a Deals section was conspicuously missing. Now you'll be able to quickly access anything on sale.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Even by the series' zany standards, Super Mario 3D World is one of Mario's most outlandish adventures, brimming with novel concepts and inventive mechanics. The Super Bell (and its attendant cat suit) is probably the game's signature innovation, continuing the long-standing tradition of dressing Mario and company up in adorable animal costumes. But perhaps its most unusual power-up is the Double Cherry--and it almost wasn't included in the game.Unlike other power-ups in the series, the Double Cherry doesn't grant Mario a new ability or special power; rather, it duplicates him. Nabbing one of these innocuous fruits conjures up a second Mario that moves perfectly in sync with the original. Grab an additional cherry, and you'll add yet another Mario to your ensemble until you're commanding a small army of plumbers, all of them scrambling about with hivemind synchronicity. This power-up marked the first time that players could control multiple Marios simultaneously, but it's a concept that Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto had actually been tossing around for quite some time. Until now, however, control hurdles ultimately prevented the Mario team from ever exploring the idea in a proper game. "Before we made [the Double Cherry], we had always had the idea of one player moving multiple Marios, but we never tried it out because we thought it would be too taxing, control-wise, to move multiple characters all at once with one stick," he told late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata in a 2013 Iwata Asks interview.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

A lot of changes to rewards are coming with the next season of Destiny 2, as Bungie recently outlined in its blog. Those changes will hit the game with its next content season, set to launch on February 9. In the meantime, you can still visit Xur ahead of the season's end to prepare for what's coming next in Destiny 2 by picking up some fresh new Exotics for your collection. Head to Nessus, to the Watcher's Grave area, to find Xur this week. For his weapon, Xur is offering Graviton Lance. Hunters can pick up the Shinobi's Vow gauntlets; for Titans, there's the Armamentarium chest armor; and for Warlocks, Xur has Getaway Artist gauntlets.Xur LocationUse the Watcher's Grave transmat zone on Nessus. Once you spawn in, hop on a sparrow and head north toward the big tree just ahead of you, growing up against the east side of the area. Climb up into the tree and you'll find Xur standing on one of its branches, looking out over the area.Xur is in a tree on Nessus, since he no longer has Calus's cool barge to chill out on.Xur Exotic ItemsA tried-and-true pulse rifle, Graviton Lance is the sort of Exotic you can feel comfortable with in just about any situation. It rips apart enemies with bullets that create black holes while also exploding to send Void projectiles out into the world to do more damage--perfect for both PvE and PvP. If you're not a fan of his other options, Xur also sells an Exotic engram that will decrypt into an Exotic you don't already own. He also has the new Xenology Quest, which rewards an Exotic Cipher you can use to purchase Exotics from either Xur or the Tower's Monument to Lost Lights. The quest requires you to either complete Strikes or win matches in Gambit and the Crucible.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Valve Inc. finds another lawsuit on its desk as a putative class action filed earlier this week alleges that the video gaming giant is abusing Steam by requiring developers to sell their games at the same price across all platforms once it enters the PC game distributor's store. The suit, spotted by The Hollywood Reporter and handled by attorneys at the Ohio-based law firm Vorys Sater, states that Valve's "Most Favored Nations" clause in its Steam Distribution Agreement forces developers to agree that "the price of a PC game on the Steam platform will be the same price the game developers sell their PC games on other platforms." The attorneys note that Valve is abusing the MFN clause by making it difficult for other platforms--such as the Epic Games Store, itch.io, and Microsoft Store--to compete against Steam."The Steam MFN also hinders innovation by creating an artificial barrier to entry for platforms," the lawsuit claims. "When a market, such as this one, is highly concentrated, a new entrant can benefit consumers by undercutting the incumbent’s prices. The ability to provide PC games to consumers at lower prices is one way a firm or new entrant could gain market share. If this market functioned properly--that is, if the Steam MFN did not exist and platforms were able to compete on price--platforms competing with Steam would be able to provide the same (or higher) margins to game developers while simultaneously providing lower prices to consumers."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
