When Blizzard announced World of Warcraft Classic, the developer had no idea it would become the hit that it is now. The developer thought bringing back the OG WoW would be something appealing to hardcore fans but not many more than that. As it turned out, that wasn't the case, and the game is now gigantic, with an expansion, The Burning Crusade, on the way this year.Executive producer John Hight told GameSpot at BlizzConline that the community for WoW Classic is "as large" as the modern WoW community, but he declined to share any further details about specific numbers when pressed. Still, what's clear is WoW Classic is a huge hit, and it's changed how Blizzard as a studio approaches its ongoing development and support."It certainly surprised us. When we put out Classic, we weren't sure is this going to be a big deal or not. We kind of thought, 'Our core fans are really going to love this, so let's do this for them.' And then, no, it became a whole big community of WoW players. As large as our modern WoW community. That surprised us," Hight said. "We realized, 'Oh gosh we have to support two communities. How do we do that?'"Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

World of Warcraft executive producer John Hight believes in the power of video games to help unite people and ease the divisions in the world amid a time of great unrest. He also stressed that Blizzard has a responsibility to make WoW the best possible social network it can be to help people stay in touch and communicate amidst the global pandemic.Speaking to GameSpot at BlizzConline, the Blizzard veteran said he believes video games can be a great force for good during this challenging time."Aside from the pandemic, all the other stuff that's going on in the world and all the divisiveness ... I really hope that things like games can get us to realize, 'Hey we have a lot in common,'" Hight said. "That the stuff we're getting all spun up about is just that--it's all kind of in our heads. If you remove the physical barriers and we're all just in this world doing things together, I think we start to realize the commonalities [we share]."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

In the midst of announcing the winners for the Anime Awards, Crunchyroll revealed five upcoming shows that will debut on its streaming service in 2021. It's an interesting list, with three original anime and two based on existing franchises. One of the three original anime is what we're most looking forward to. Zombie Land Saga Revenge is the follow-up to Zombie Land Saga, one of our favorite anime of Fall 2018. Revenge is one of our most anticipated anime of 2021.The series follows a high school girl who's struck and killed by a passing truck, only to be revived by an eccentric necromancer 10 years later in order for her to lead an idol group entirely composed of zombies. The show is hilarious, but also tackles emotional scenes with surprising care. Plus, it has a scene where two zombie girls argue by having a rap battle and, honestly, it's one of the best scenes we've seen in an anime.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

With BlizzConline (aka BlizzCon 2021) underway, we got several new details about Diablo 4. During a presentation, Blizzard revealed the new Rogue class, outlined how PvP works, and teased new elements of its open world design. Here, we summarize everything we learned--you can also watch the entire presentation below.Rogue Class BreakdownRogue is a dexterity-based class that can use bows and crossbows for ranged attacks, and swords and daggers for melee attacks. The class relies on mobility and striking fast, but also has a diverse skillset with abilities you can mix and match to great effect. From what we can glean, Rogues have skills like a dashing ability, flurry slashes, and an aerial attack that showers arrows down for AOE damage.Rogues have three specializations. One is called Combo Points, which seem to rely on a sequence of timing-based attacks that stack damage--director Luis Barriga likened it to a sort of rhythm game. The second is called Shadow Realm, which puts you into temporary stealth to land attacks unharmed while in the middle of combat. Lastly, Exploit Weakness is a reaction-based specialization where an icon will pop up on an enemy and you have to time a counter to do extra damage. Players don't have to pick one specialization and can combine abilities to create their own builds and playstyles.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

It's easy to identify many of Blue Fire's potential inspirations. Its platforming, combat, and overall structure harken back to the sprawling maps and challenges of Hollow Knight, its handful of dungeons could pass for shorter versions of those in most Legend of Zelda titles, and its progression mixes many elements synonymous with From Software's Souls series. But developer ROBI Studios struggles to bring all of these elements together in a cohesive fashion, and the addition of the studio's own ideas to the mix weighs down Blue Fire's otherwise exceptional platforming.Blue Fire's most prominent focus is its platforming, which permeates every action you take across its 12-hour adventure. You start with just a jump and a dash, and Blue Fire immediately makes great use of these limited mechanics by giving you a satisfying amount of control over your movements. The length of each jump or dash is tied to the length of a respective button press, which means you can easily cancel either action in mid-air and have greater control over your aerial movements. This in and of itself isn't unique to Blue Fire, but the fine-tuned feel of movement makes leaping around each varied biome in its world a treat.Blue Fire captured on PCThese basic movements are coupled with a growing repertoire of moves that you acquire as you progress, including movement speed boosts, wall-running, and double jumps. Blue Fire introduces these new mechanics gracefully; you have plenty of time to get to grips with one before being tasked to learn another. Eventually, stringing them all together feels like you're conducting an elegant ballet in mid-air, accurately timing and weighing each button press with care to make sure you're making pin-point jumps around areas designed to challenge these skills.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

One of the big announcements from the February Nintendo Direct on Wednesday was the reveal of Splatoon 3, the latest sequel in Nintendo's colorful shooter series. Some people were surprised that Nintendo is pushing ahead with a third entry despite the franchise not dominating headlines in the way that Mario Kart, Zelda, and Smash often do. The surprise, in the eyes of some, may also stem from the fact that Nintendo chose to announce a sequel to Splatoon as opposed to its other franchises.Follow The MoneyBut it's really no big shock that Splatoon 3 is happening. As with most entertainment products, following the money is a good place to start. The original Splatoon for Wii U sold an impressive 4.95 million copies. That's a big number by itself, and it's more impressive when you consider the Wii U itself only sold 13.5 million systems over its lifetime.Splatoon 2 for the Nintendo Switch was an even bigger hit, selling 11.90 million copies as of December 31, 2020. Combined, the two games have reached 16.85 million units sold, which is a massive result that demonstrates there is a clear business opportunity to make a third one.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
