Video game preservation group Hidden Palace has released more than 700 demos, builds, and prototypes from the PlayStation 2 era in an ongoing effort that they're calling "Project Deluge." The lot itself is over 860 gigabytes of data. According to the project page, this massive release is but one part of a "gigantic lot" of unreleased and unseen gaming assets that "[spans] multiple console generations."As the group details in the description, the lot itself had to be carefully curtailed to remove final retail builds, and the group created scripts to collect metadata on each build to categorize and evaluate each item. The group also states that the quality of the dumped files themselves "could be much better" and "could contain errors," but due to its sheer size, they were unable to redump all the files with proper hardware. However, Hidden Palace says that they may revisit the disks in the future. Overall, however, Project Deluge will be so large that Hidden Palace says it will "eclipse everything we've tackled up until this point."Builds included in the lot include several E3 prototypes of notable games, including Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex and Shadow of the Colossus, as well as prototypes of God Hand and Dino Stalker. There are also accessible debug tools in many of the builds, including for classics like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It's a truly staggering amount of content, and it'll take hackers and game researchers months if not years to figure out everything that's in there.Info from Gamespot.com

Over the past three decades of Mortal Kombat video games, the franchise has developed a deep and detailed backstory for practically every character. Now, with a new Mortal Kombat movie about to arrive in theaters and on HBO Max, film director Simon McQuoid has revealed how important that established lore is to the upcoming film."What I wanted to do--and Greg [Russo], the writer, said this even going in very early--is that we shouldn't be changing fundamentals," he said during a press event. "We can add a bit to help amplify lore and amplify stuff that is within."One example of the additions or amplifications is something fans have already seen in the first trailer. "One is the example you've seen, which is Sub-Zero takes Jax's arms," McQuoid explained. "Now we know that was Ermac and there's even been other slightly different iterations of that through the years. But in this particular story, I needed to inform Sub-Zero as much as I needed to inform how Jax loses them."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Aside from your console or PC itself, the most important part of any gaming setup is the screen you're playing on. But what's the best option for 2021--the competitive edge of a gaming monitor or the size and bombast of a gaming TV? The question of which is better--gaming monitor vs. TV--was a lot easier to answer when gaming monitors had the clear advantage in speed, accuracy, and response time, but in recent years, many gaming TVs have adopted features that have helped bring them in line. Still, there are key differences between a gaming monitor and TV that are worth noting, especially if you're a dedicated gamer who spends a lot of time looking at your screen of choice. While gaming TVs have started to enter the world of higher refresh rates, gaming monitors have pushed their speeds even higher, climbing up to 360Hz. This makes them hard to beat in the realm of competitive gaming, but if you're looking for the best image possible, a 4K gaming TV with an OLED panel is unbeatable. There are some great 40-inch-plus monitors out there that provide gorgeous visuals, but they can't quite match up to the best TVs. And few gaming monitors use the new HDMI 2.1 interface technology to push 4K and 120Hz, which makes gaming TVs a more viable option for utilizing the full capabilities of the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Of course, an excellent 144Hz monitor is still a great choice for PC gamers who use a keyboard and mouse as their main tools--or those who own the smaller Xbox Series S.Despite these differences, gaming monitors and gaming TVs have started to tie up their loose ends, and both can provide an excellent gaming experience. You can't go wrong either way, but there are still some different benefits that each type of screen has, and depending on the type of gamer you are, one might just edge out the other.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

And while it's not officially confirmed who he'll be playing, TMZ reports that Sinclair is playing a young version of Dominic Toretto--the role made famous by his dad.Given what we know about F9 thus far, it makes sense there would be scenes of a young Dom in the ew film. As first revealed in a trailer from early 2020, John Cena will play Dom's long-lost brother Jakob--who also happens to be an antagonist in the film. If the movie is delving into Toretto family history, there's no better way to show that than with flashbacks.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Respawn has added a new Survival Slot Button option to the settings in Apex Legends. This means that controller users can now go back to using the d-pad to inspect their weapon. In the Chaos Theory update, Respawn added a brand-new item to Apex Legends: the heat shield. Alongside the mobile respawn beacon, this item goes into a new slot in your in-match inventory, which is called the survival slot. When first added, this slot was automatically mapped to the d-pad input previously used for weapon and heirloom inspection. Folks on mouse and keyboard could easily remap the inspection prompt to another key or mouse button, but folks on controllers only have so many buttons. So weapon and heirloom inspection was remapped to the quip wheel.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade releases exclusively on PS5 in only a few months, and Square Enix has released an expanded version of its previous announcement video showing off the visual enhancements. We also get to see more of the new features, including a robust photo mode. The biggest immediate improvement you can see is the lighting, which adds a sense of life to scenes that--while still impressive on PS4--didn’t give characters’ faces or the environment the same subtle shadows. It also allows you to better see the details on the models, such as Barret’s forehead wrinkles. When walking in the slums of Midgar, the light seems to leak through from a space in the metal structure above, making the world beyond seem much more inviting.Textures have received a makeover that also benefits from the lighting, but beyond that, they also show much more detail. It was an area the original PS4 game could sometimes fall flat--literally--with main characters’ super-detailed models standing next to pretty primitive walls and doors.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Nier: Automata has been available on Steam for more than four years, launching almost simultaneously with the PS4 version, but the game's recent inclusion on Xbox Game Pass for PC has drawn controversy. It appears to be a far superior version compared to the Steam release, with little explanation given for why there isn't parity. Steam customers aren't too happy about this, and they've taken to review-bombing the Steam page in frustration.Though Nier: Automata's total review average still sits at "very positive" on Steam, recent reviews have been much more negative. They call out the poor quality of the PC port that has been available on Steam--players have even created their own modes to simply fix it--when a much better version was released on Game Pass for PC. Some of the players advocate for newcomers to just get it from the Microsoft Store, while others are pushing for Square Enix to release the same fixes on Steam. What were those fixes? Port developer QLOC said the Xbox Game Pass for PC version includes HDR support, 4K UI textures, FidelityFX, and borderless video settings. According to Eurogamer, the last of those fixes addresses a resolution issue that had been affecting the PC version since launch. A mod released shortly after the game's initial launch called "Fix Automata Resolution" addressed that resolution issue as well as stuttering during cutscenes. If you do have the Steam version, you may want to try the mod before jumping to the Xbox Game Pass for PC release.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
