The latest Game Developers Conference State of the Industry survey has been released, and it's a particularly memorable one this time due to a series of recent developments such as the launch of new consoles, the pandemic, unions, and more.More than 3,000 developers took part in the survey. Beginning with the pandemic, 44% of surveyed developers said their game had a delay due to the health crisis. This is up from 33% from the last survey, which was conducted in summer 2020. Games like Gotham Knights, Hogwarts Legacy, and The Lord of the Rings: Gollum are just a few examples of high-profile games delayed in 2021.While studios might have delayed their games due in part to the pandemic, teams also grew their staff, with 47% of those in the survey reporting that their teams grew. Productivity among teams is also improving, with 66% of respondents saying their productibity stayed the same or increased. This compares to 41% of those surveyed in July 2020 saying their productivity went down. It makes sense that productivity from work-from-home environments would increase over time as people get more accustomed to it.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The ESRB listing for Resident Evil Village has appeared publicly on the organization's website, and it offers a glimpse at some of the horrors that will await players as they explore the game's titular locale. Not surprisingly, the game received an M rating from the organization, specifically for its blood and gore, intense violence, and strong language.Note that there are some small potential spoilers ahead. You have been warned. The ESRB's general description of the game offers very few surprises to fans of the Resident Evil series. However, it does reveal that the game's level of gore is consistent with its predecessor Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which featured hands and legs getting chopped off in its first few hours. The description also reveals that Bloodborne-esque fantastical creatures are the main foes that the player will face, unlike RE7.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

James Gunn's Suicide Squad movie includes a massive cast of both new and familiar faces, but don't let the big names of some of the heroes fool you. Just because Harley Quinn is one of DC's premiere superheroes (or antiheroes, depending on who you ask), doesn't mean she's going to be taking center stage in the movie, according to Margot Robbie in an interview with TotalFilm. In explaining just where Harley fits into the massive lineup, Robbie explained "she's not necessarily your narrative center, and sometimes it's great when plot points can rest on other characters' shoulders, and she can be the thing that erupts a whole sequence of events."This was apparently something Gunn agreed on. Robbie spoke with the director about her character before filming and felt "he agreed" on her take, based on the script. She also impressed that she saw Harley as "a catalyst of chaos."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Queen Elizabeth II's golden Nintendo Wii is up for sale on eBay for the low, low price of $300,000. Though the Queen never actually owned the golden console, news stories of its rejected delivery made it infamous to a certain subset of collectors, and if you're one of them, you can certainly put in a bid.The golden Wii was a highly-questionable PR stunt from now-defunct game publisher THQ. As Eurogamer recalls, THQ decided to promote a mini-game collection for the Wii called Big Family Games by crafting a golden version of the hit gaming console and sending it to the Queen of the United Kingdom. Though the Queen rejected the delivery, news outlets picked up the story, giving the game the marketing boost the publisher wanted.YouTube channel People Make Games told the story of the Queen's golden Wii back in 2019, tracking its current owner to a Dutch collector named Donny in the above video. In an interview with the exhaustive console collection database Consolevariations.com, Donny stated that his desire to move to a new living situation--coupled with stress from his day job--has inspired him to sell the Wii. The $300,000 price is pretty arbitrary: It's the sum that the collector imagines he'll need to buy a reasonably-sized place for himself. "I don't need more," he said. Based on the listing on Consolevariations.com, the console is indeed made out of 24 karat plated gold. Additionally, it uses the PAL region code, which you might expect, given its UK origins.Info from Gamespot.com

Director Chloe Zhao made history at the Academy Awards this year by being the second woman and first woman of color ever to bring home a Best Director statue in the show's 93 years of presenting. This also means Zhao is the first Oscar-winning director to work in the MCU--and, according to a profile published by Variety, the studio has fully embraced her signature style.During the early days of Eternals pitching and development, Zhao fought to keep the sprawling sci-fi movie grounded and practical wherever possible. According to Marvel boss Kevin Feige, practical locations were a must for the director's process. Zhao cut a sample reel for Disney's higher-ups, and during the presentation, Feige impressed upon the room that it was "right out of the camera" with "no VFX work at all."Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Good news, Google Stadia users: If you're trying to search for your favorite games on the platform's web store, you can do that now. That's right, the billion-dollar tech company that became a tech titan through its mastery of search results somehow didn't include a search bar on its online games store.Needless to say, this inspired some negative reactions from notable gaming personalities. "Google is literally a search bar company," Noclip founder (and former GameSpot host) Danny O'Dwyer correctly pointed out."It's great that after almost 1.5 years hiring and laying off entire games studios and generally squandering their early launch advantage, the massive corporation entirely built around Search has integrated a Search [bar] into its service," Vlambeer co-founder Rami Ismail said.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Some Apex Legends players are resorting to devious methods to help farm kills in Ranked by luring teammates to enemy squads, effectively trapping them in death loops. First noticed by Eurogamer, various players took to the game's subreddit to decry the issue. Called "ranked kidnapping," it's a form of stat boosting that sees teams lure one of their squamates to other enemy players, who are usually located near a respawn beacon. What results is an endless death loop: One player is killed by an enemy team, only to then be revived and redeployed by their allies for the process to repeat ad nauseam.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
