If you're a fan of niche Japanese fare on PC, you may want to pick up as many NIS America games as you can in the next few days, because their prices are about to go up. The publisher announced recently that it will soon increase the prices on its PC games following the conclusion of summer sales on storefronts like Epic Games Store, Steam, Microsoft Store, and Stadia. These price hikes are pretty significant, with the normal price of Suda 51's The 25th Ward: The Silver Case increasing from $10 to $20, and Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana increasing from $40 to $60. Of course, because of the current sales, all of these games are significantly discounted. According to NIS America's website, the price changes will go into effect on July 19.Needless to say, some fans were not happy with this move and took to forums like ResetEra to express their displeasure. Some speculated that the price hikes were caused by financial problems, though there doesn't seem to be any direct evidence of this.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

For decades there's been one particularly colored screen you never want to see appear on your PC; the Blue Screen of Death. Microsoft's famous screen has been a familiar indicator for a big problem with your hardware also since the inception of the OS, but it's getting a facelift with Windows 11.Or at least its recognizable color is getting changed. With Windows 11 there will no longer be a blue screen accompanying a critical crash, with a new black screen taking its place (via The Verge). This saves you from having to remember another acronym and is likely a result of Microsoft's shift towards similarly styled screens for start-up and shutdown.Curiously, the color is really the only facet of the screen that is changing. The ASCII sad face is still there, as well as the error logs and handy QR code that can help you diagnose whatever issues you're having. Microsoft changed to this design with Windows 7, making the error dump a little easier on the eye, and hasn't changed it drastically since.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Support for the Netflix app on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS is officially over, with the apps ceasing to function on June 30.The apps were previously pulled from the Wii U and 3DS eShops on December 31, 2020, but could still be used and re-downloaded for users who had already downloaded them once before up until June 30. The date for the sunsetting of the app was announced earlier this year.Given the size of the 3DS screen, it's honestly surprising Netflix ever released an app for the console in the first place. It's hard to imagine watching, well, just about anything on any 3DS screen, even if it was on the slightly larger 3DS XL. In regards to the Wii U, Nintendo's Wii successor never really caught on, so it's likely the death of the Netflix app on the console affects a very small minority of users.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

The large modding site Nexus Mods has announced several big changes that it says are designed to make it easier for modders to make a living through their work. Starting in August, modders will no longer be able to truly delete mods from Nexus--though they can "archive" them and make them inaccessible to an average user, they can still be downloaded under certain circumstances. As the lengthy blog post announcing the move explains, this new archiving system is meant to help modders and players build "collections," which are sets of mods that work together to create a desired experience. When a mod is archived, though players won't be able to download it from Nexus directly, the mod will still be included in collections that feature it, and it can be downloaded as part of that collection.Nexus staff argue that that collections will make it easier for entry-level users to mod popular games like Skyrim without worrying about compatibility issues, or having to comb through long lists of mods. They also hope that these collections will help more modders receive funds through the site's Donation Points system, which was introduced back in 2018. Given the scope of these changes, they'll obviously draw a variety of responses, but the overall tenor of reactions appeared to be positive. Modders who would like their work wiped permanently from Nexus Mods have until August 5 to file a request with the site.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Assembling Legos can be rough, what with the exorbitant amount and often mismatched bricks we have just laying around. However, the process has been simplified by developer Brickit's app of the same name, which uses AI to scan and offer suggestions on what to build.Brickit, available now on iOS with an Android version coming this fall, uses your phone's camera to assess the assortment of Legos you have and then spits out various creations that can be made with step-by-step instructions. All you need to do is dump your Legos into a pile, point your phone's camera at it, and let Brickit do the rest. After a brief scanning period, the app then suggests a plethora of constructs while pointing out the bricks you'll need. It even tells you how many bricks are necessary and which ones are missing.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Few games hold up as well as Dead Space. Despite releasing 13 years ago, Visceral Games' space horror shooter is still as intense and scary today as it was then. In fact, it's shockingly good--you can get it on PC right now, and it still controls exceedingly well, features some great shooting mechanics, and looks pretty great. But most importantly, Dead Space can still scare the hell out of you, with a combination of great sound design, excellent jump scares, ridiculously gross monsters, and awesome set piece moments. So that's what makes the rumors of a Dead Space remake coming from EA Motive so...weird. Supposedly, Electronic Arts looked at the massive success of Capcom's Resident Evil 2 remake and thought that Dead Space was ripe for a similar treatment. But Resident Evil 2 on the original PlayStation is today, realistically, kind of ugly and clunky. It's a tough game to go back to in its original form despite being full of great ideas and frightening moments. It's the kind of game where a visual and mechanical overhaul helps bring its best ideas forward into a modern setting.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

Although a formal program for releasing them has not yet been announced, Sony has signaled its intention to launch so-called director's cuts of various first-party PS4 games. So far, two such projects have been announced: Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima. But with more potentially on the way, which games would we most like to see get this re-release treatment? It's worth noting that it's unclear if these are really director's cuts in the literal sense, with their respective directors being able to release their un-cut or original visions for the games. The term director's cut is traditionally used in the film industry to describe versions of movies that are more in line with a single vision, restoring content that was originally cut from the final product because of other considerations--like studio mandates, early feedback, and what have you.Sony's director's cuts, on the other hand, appear to be more like amped-up versions of the original games, with new features specific to the PS5 and new content. But they don't necessarily reflect the original creative vision of the developers--or if they do, we haven't really heard about how they do.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com

There's a moment late into Chicory where the hero of its tale questions their role in its story. Was it pure chance that they inherited a powerful paintbrush capable of restoring color to a monochromatic world, or did they deserve the responsibility and legacy associated with it? It's not a surprise that this question comes up at all, but rather when it does. Near its climax, Chicory's hero isn't satisfied that all of their actions up to that point have assuaged their underlying insecurity. It's this moment, along with numerous others surrounding it, that makes Chicory: A Colorful Tale an exceptional story to watch unfold. And it's a tale made all the more compelling by captivating puzzles and a distinct visual style. The world of Picnic is one that has become accustomed to expecting a lot from a singular Wielder. These skilled artists are chosen from many to maintain the color in the world using a magical brush, letting their own unique styles literally define the look of a society. It's a tradition that has continued for generations, but one that ends abruptly when the latest Wielder, Chicory, tosses aside the tool after a cataclysmic event strips the entire land and its inhabitants of their color. My hero, who I unwittingly named Pizza (every other character is fittingly named after food, too), jumps at the chance to take over the mantle and accept the responsibility because of a sheer admiration for those that came before, but soon begins understanding the burden that accompanies the title of Wielder. With the magical paintbrush in hand, A Colorful Tale invites you to get creative with its world. It's essentially one big coloring book, letting you decorate it according to how you imagine it might have looked under Chicory's reign. It's a literal mechanic built around the Wielder's duty to the land of Picnic, while also letting you better understand how each Wielder before you might have struggled with the requests of its citizens. Characters will frequently ask you to return their household or favorite coffee shop to its original state, sometimes not coming away satisfied with the results. Other times they'll drown you in praise for creating the simplest possible logo for a t-shirt, or for a slap-dash recreation of a much better-looking piece of classic art. Both instances instill a sense of imposter syndrome--either you're not good enough to be the Wielder, or the citizens of Picnic are simply settling because they have no other alternative.Continue Reading at GameSpotInfo from Gamespot.com
