As we approach the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, now is the time for the publisher to promote the game with impressive stats about just how much work went into the final product. But one number has been raising eyebrows, forcing Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser to issue a clarification. In a lengthy interview, Houser suggested that the team worked 100-hour weeks several times throughout 2018. But now in a statement to Kotaku, he has elaborated that he was referring to the senior writing team, not the entire Rockstar development team."After working on the game for seven years, the senior writing team, which consists of four people, Mike Unsworth, Rupert Humphries, Lazlow and myself, had, as we always do, three weeks of intense work when we wrapped everything up," he said. "Three weeks, not years. We have all worked together for at least 12 years now, and feel we need this to get everything finished. After so many years of getting things organized and ready on this project, we needed this to check and finalize everything."His clarification does square with the original piece in Vulture, which used the 100 hours quote immediately after explaining rewrites and edits. Houser's clarifying statement also goes on to explain Rockstar's general policy towards "crunch"--the widely used practice in AAA game development to put in long hours, especially near the end of a project that's preparing to ship."More importantly, we obviously don't expect anyone else to work this way," he said. "Across the whole company, we have some senior people who work very hard purely because they're passionate about a project, or their particular work, and we believe that passion shows in the games we release. But that additional effort is a choice, and we don't ask or expect anyone to work anything like this. Lots of other senior people work in an entirely different way and are just as productive--I'm just not one of them! No one, senior or junior, is ever forced to work hard."This all has a tone of history repeating itself. When the first Red Dead Redemption was nearing completion, an anonymous letter alleged poor working conditions at Rockstar San Diego, including mandatory overtime. That prompted mediation from the IDGA. Houser's clarification suggests the studio does not expect its employees to work such long hours.Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming October 26. Its online mode, Red Dead Online, will follow in November.Info from Gamespot.com

Fortnite's next patch, v6.10, is coming very soon. Epic announced on Twitter that downtime will begin at 4 AM ET / 1 AM PT on Tuesday, October 16. At that point, patch notes will be available to explain the new features and fixes. [Update] The downtime has now completed. You can read the Fortnite update 6.10 patch notes here.We already know at least one of the new features coming with the update. New in-game tournaments will reward players with pins and prizes, pitting players against each other from all platforms and control schemes. The first such tournament will start this week, with Solo play. Several others are planned for the coming weeks, including ones themed after Salty Springs and Tomato Temple, and a Friday Night Fortnite Squad tournament that will run every Friday evening through the end of November. We may also see the Quadcrusher vehicle wrapped in this update.Epic hasn't detailed what other features might be coming with the update, but the tournament feature certainly seems to be the centerpiece. We also may be getting more hints of things to come, as the recent update 6.02 leaked some upcoming skins. This comes just after Epic has expanded the player base of Fortnite yet again by making the Android version free for all without an invite. The studio just recently disabled the guided missile while it investigates an issue, so we'll see if it comes back in the 6.10 update. The tournaments will let you show off your skills, but we have a feeling Ellen won't be able to hang.Info from Gamespot.com

A PlayStation 4 message that was crashing consoles has been fixed, and Sony has issued a statement explaining how to take care of the issue manually for anyone still experiencing the problem. The bug allowed malicious users to send a message that would send the console into a crash loop. The messages used an unrecognized character to force the console to crash. In some cases it would even go into a crash loop, making the console unable to start properly and run any games or apps. You can prevent future exploits like this one by changing your settings to only allow messages from friends. In its comment on Twitter, Sony suggested deleting the offending message through the PS mobile app, then starting the console in Safe Mode and selecting Option 5. That should fix the console, and the company has issued a fix to prevent any further spread of the malicious messages. In a follow-up to another user, the PlayStation team pointed users toward the reporting tools to turn in any users found to be sending the messages. If you're seeking something new to play on your newly un-bugged PS4, there's a sale going on at the PlayStation Store, or you can read up on some of the best the console has to offer. It's a busy time though, with tons of recent big releases and another coming next week in Red Dead Redemption 2. The PS4-exclusive Spider-Man is also preparing to add its first DLC expansion, starring Black Cat and a host of new Spider-suits to earn.Info from Gamespot.com

The Destiny 2 Halloween event Festival of the Lost, introducing all manner of special rewards to collect and new activities to enjoy. The activities include a murder mystery story quest and a Horde-like enemy wave area. For your troubles you can earn some loot and unique items, like goofy masks of Destiny celebs. Check out our Festival of the Lost gallery for a look at the cosmetics.A new story quest has you solving the murder of Master Ives, a Cryptarch from the Reef. Solving the mystery will gain you Powerful loot for your trouble, along with the satisfaction of knowing you did some quality police work. The Infinite Forest from the Curse of Osiris is getting a refresh as the "Haunted Forest," which will send waves of enemies in randomized layouts. You can delve deeper and deeper into the forest to take on increasingly tough waves, but you only have 15 minutes to take down as many as you can.All those festivities sound merry and bright, but this year's Festival of the Lost will be a little more somber than in past years. Major character and quest-giver Cayde-6 is now among the fallen Guardians. We can expect the Tower to be an even sadder place than it already was. Keep him in your thoughts as you wear your funny paper mache masks and chase down the new Ephemeral Engrams.Another update out now increases Scout Rifle damage, decreases the drop rate of the grenade launcher Edge Transit, and fixes assorted bugs. A separate event, kicking off alongside Festival of the Lost today, is the newly revised Iron Banner. The challenges have been tweaked to be a little easier to achieve and earn your best loot. It will last through October 23.Info from Gamespot.com

Destiny 2 is kicking off a few different special events today, the most limited of which is the return of the Iron Banner. The special event ends on October 23 and offers a bounty of prizes for completing its challenges in the Crucible. Best of all, those challenges have been made substantially easier this time around. The easier bounties should mean you stand a better chance at completing multiple versions of them, and you can earn a piece of Powerful Gear for each one. Each bounty you complete also allows you to buy a corresponding piece of Iron Banner gear with "curated" perks. You can see these, along with all of the Iron Banner rewards, in our gallery. On top of that, Masterwork Cores will be easier to come by, thanks to Double Valor from October 16-19, followed by Triple Valor from October 19-23. Bungie has previously said it wanted to make Masterwork Cores more available, and soon it will be changing the name to better reflect their current function in the game. The newly revised Iron Banner bounties are:Lightbearer: Super kills has been reduced to 20 from 25Iron in the Blood: Match completions has been reduced to 15 from 30Shine On: Orbs generated has been reduced to 50 from 100Iron Victory: Match wins has been reduced to 7 from 10To Be Precise: Precision kills has been reduced to 50 from 100All in a Week's Work: Kills has been reduced to 150 from 250In the Zone: Capture 50 zones in Iron Banner (unchanged)The Iron Banner isn't the only event starting this week. The annual Halloween-themed event Festival of the Lost kicks off today as well. It includes a story-based murder mystery quest, a spooky Haunted Forest horde mode with a 15-minute timer, Ephemeral Engrams with new cosmetic rewards, a Legendary auto rifle called the Horror Story, and lots of creepy decorations adorning the Tower. It all comes alongside the 2.0.4 update, which has some balance changes and bug fixes of its own.Info from Gamespot.com

The upcoming film Dragon Ball Super: Broly is the twentieth movie in the Dragon Ball franchise, and the first in the Dragon Ball Super series. Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama is heavily involved in the writing and character design of the film, and will give us a fresh new take on Broly--the main villain of the film who will face off against Vegeta, Frieza, and Goku.Legendary voice actress Masako Nozawa, who has voiced Goku since 1986, will play the role once again in the new film. During a panel for Dragon Ball Super: Broly at New York Comic Con, Nozawa told a crowd of fans to expect a lot of action and top-notch fighting scenes in the new movie. She also sat down with GameSpot at New York Comic Con to talk about the new film and how she feels about Goku after all these years.Voice Actress Masako Nozawa at New York Comic ConHow does it feel going back and being a part of a reimagined take on Broly?Masako Nozawa: So, in the Dragon Ball universe, I have what I call the family. And I feel like Broly, even though whether they're a villain or not, that he is kind of part of this original family, so that's kind of this interrelationship I have with him. What can you tell us about Goku in Dragon Ball Super: Broly?I think in terms of Goku, he really hasn't changed his goal and what drives him to make this world a better place. That is a constant throughout all the Gokus in the past. Can you say anything about Frieza in this new movie?I think Goku might consider Frieza almost like a friend at this point, and he's who pulls Frieza up. But [Frieza’s] he's another helpless guy, he's a selfish guy, he's kind of helpless sometimes. How do you feel about Goku after all these years?I think Goku really is kind of like a clone of myself, and he always has been. I think he will continue to be.What was it like playing a dark version of Goku with Goku Black on Dragon Ball Super?I think a lot of talent, they really try to get into the character and really focus in their minds. But with me, I saw the image, the character design of Goku Black. That's how I kind of get into character, I see what the illustration looks like and then figure out how I should act from there.Which version of Goku has been your favorite to play? Being serious, being silly, or some kind of other version?I think for me, I love Goku when he's helping people. And I know it's not... he's always helping people, he doesn't help people with the intent of going out to help someone, he just does it so naturally; and his nonchalant way of just bringing everyone around him up is the aspect I love about Goku the most. He just wants peace, that's all he wants. And lastly, do you think that Goku is Vegeta's secret best friend but Vegeta's too proud to admit it?Oh yeah. Vegeta would never accept that, but yeah.Dragon Ball Super: Broly hits U.S. and Canadian theaters on January 16, 2019. Before you watch the film, you can catch up on Dragon Ball Super in Japanese on Crunchyroll and in English on Funimation. You can also watch our interview with Sean Schemmel, the english voice of Goku, where he discussed Dragon Ball Super: Broly at SDCC 2018. Info from Gamespot.com

Battlefield V returns to World War 2, which means a lot of focus on the heroism of a just cause, the Greatest Generation, and all the imagery that entails. The single-player story trailer embraces that spirit wholeheartedly with a cinematic presentation that intermingles personal sacrifices with the bombastic moments that come in a theater of war.In it we see a variety of characters as the globe-trotting campaign features War Stories from different regions' soldiers taking part in the conflict. It doesn't shed much light on the particular arcs of these disparate characters but we do get a good idea of the variety of backgrounds and settings for the battles.Battlefield this year is introducing Firestorm, a new Battle Royale mode with a 64-player max. It's also taking its time to make some adjustments following feedback from the open beta.If you're itching for Battlefield and you just can't wait until November 20, EA is giving away all four expansions for Battlefield 1 through October. The first two are free now, and the second two will likely swap out as the freebies later in the month. You can also find the game itself relatively cheap on all platforms, if you don't have it already. Of course, if nothing but Battlefield 5 will do, you can also play it a little early with EA Access--as long as your platform of choice is Xbox One. Check out our pre-order guide for more details.Info from Gamespot.com

October has arrived, and this month is packed with some major releases for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and even 3DS. Capcom's Blue Bomber Mega Man returns after a long hiatus with Mega Man 11, while the GameCube classic Luigi's Mansion arrives on 3DS in time for Halloween with a few new features in tow, including cooperative multiplayer. Square Enix's cult classic DS RPG, The World Ends With You, is also making a comeback this month when Final Remix launches on Switch. There are plenty of other games worth checking out this month, as well. Fallout 76 will no doubt be a big change of pace for the series upon its November 14 release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Trading out the traditional single-player experience for a shared-world multiplayer survival game, the upcoming prequel sets itself apart from its predecessors in a very clear way. Despite the larger scope and other players to interact with, Bethesda's online game still focuses on offering a rich and detailed world to explore, with its fair share of strange events and oddities to uncover, but there's no doubt that world-building has taken a backseat in the process. There was a lot to unpack after our hands-on time with the game at a recent event, so we spent some time talking with Bethesda Softworks' VP of Marketing Pete Hines about the game's ongoing development. During this chat, we learned more about Fallout 76's previous life as a potential multiplayer mode for Fallout 4, the initial worries the developers had in switching things up, and how the game will continue to evolve long after its release.Editor's note: This interview has been edited for clarity and readability. The original concept of Fallout 76 was based on the planned multiplayer mode for Fallout 4. Can you talk about what that original idea was, and how it evolved into what we have now?Hines: Yeah, the original idea for 76 was born out of revisiting the concept that we get asked about often, which is multiplayer or co-op in our games. They ask every single time we release a game. Looking into that for Fallout 4, we decided that we had some ideas but it wouldn't really work for what we're doing for that game. It had to be its own separate game and its own separate thing. From a high level, it's very much what you guys got to play today [in other games], you can play with others, but you're in a shared Fallout world with quests, a character system, and a number of survival aspects. We have done some things differently, like there's no NPCs in the game and you're not having dialogue with a lot of different characters. But instead of that, you're doing a lot more world exploration and emergent gameplay, finding notes and hollow-tapes from people who were in the world who have disappeared, and trying to figure out what was going on before and what they were like. But deep down, it's still the same basic idea of a shared Fallout experience and how that works with others thrown in the mix.To transform an offline, single-player experience into an online game, you'd inevitably have to alter or strip down some of its more familiar aspects. Was that something the developers had some worries about in the early goings of this game?Yeah, absolutely. We knew going in, this is not just gonna be Fallout 4 with multiplayer. It's inherently going to have to look and feel different in order to be the type of experience that works with many different players together. We're not doing an MMO, not just doing a last-man-standing game--it's still an RPG. It has elements of those kinds of things, but yeah, there's inherent things that are different--but there's also a lot of things that look and feel very familiar. For instance, the tone, the vibe, look, and feel of the world can go a long way to give you a sense of familiarity to sort of wrap your head around things. It's still a Fallout world, even though these things are different. But yeah, this is a really scary and different thing to be a part of. We are fully aware of that. We are making changes and making a different kind of game, but it's one that we are excited to try and see what it can turn into. There is a stronger sense of isolation when you're alone since there are no NPCs to meet. But that all changes when you meet other players. Do you feel that the Fallout experience is heightened when you're playing with others?Absolutely. Look, the only way that anybody has previously shared their experiences with Fallout was essentially water cooler talk. Right? Coming in the next day to say, "Here's what I did and then I did this, and then I had this quest and fought these super mutants and I thought I was gonna die." You're able to enhance those experiences when you're playing with others. We're all experiencing this together, and you've never been in a Fallout game and been able to yell to a friend and actually have them help you. Those kinds of things are what Fallout 76 brings that the other ones simply couldn't do. A shared, in the moment experience. You can't get it any other way, and it's why we wanted to try it out. Yes, it's different. Yes, it's a departure, and it's new and scary. But it's an opportunity to have people share experiences that they've always wanted but have never been able to before.Another thing that's interesting about 76 is that it's the earliest Fallout game in the series. Despite this, we're still seeing some familiar factions and enemies, which may conflict with what people already expect. Did you feel that a more loose approach with the timeline had to be taken in order to keep those familiar aspects of the game intact?I don't know if I would say loose, but I would say that our developers take things like lore and canon seriously, and if they're going to do something they're going to make sure that there's a real reason for it. We have proven with the Elder Scrolls games, that in places where some things happened one way, that we're willing to say, "Well lots of people will say things happened one way," and the opposite or something else could entirely be true. So there's no question that we've gone back to change things to fit what developers have wanted to do, and not be holden to something that somebody wrote 20 years ago.But having said that, we don't take it lightly to just go change whatever we want. There has to be a thought process; what is the rationale? Why would this logically work in this time? Why would there be super mutants, or the brotherhood of steel? How does that all fit and hold together? There's absolutely reasons and explanations in Fallout 76 for how all that ties together. You're also taking a bit of a different approach with the PC version, as it'll be exclusive to Bethesda.net. Can you elaborate on why the game won't be on Steam?Mostly because of the kind of game it is. It's an online, always-on game, and is a service. That was also based on our experiences with other online games as well. We felt that having a direct relationship with our customers was super important to us. And so doing it through Bethesda.net exclusively allows us to have that one-to-one relationship with customers, that quite honestly you don't always have when you go through another third party where they might own the relationship with the customer in terms of being able to email them or to reach out directly and contact them.So it simplifies things a little and we believe it's going to help us deal with some issues and challenges that we've seen in the past. And again, it's a new experience, like the game itself is and we're going to see how it goes and how it works and what benefits it allows us to have in making sure that our customers have the best experience possible.Mods have certainly taken off on Bethesda.net as well, which was particularly successful with the Creation Club integration in Fallout 4. Can you talk about how mods will play into Fallout 76, and how exactly they'll work within the online space?I don't foresee a universe in which we allow players to come in [to Fallout 76's public servers] with their own unique and different mods. If you want to run mods, they'll have to be done on a private server. You'll be deciding what sort of mods you're including and running, and everyone playing on that server is playing with those mods. Those are a ways off, though. I imagine it's going to be at least a year before we hit that point because it's going to be a lot of work. But mods and private servers are definitely coming....our developers take things like lore and canon seriously, and if they're going to do something they're going to make sure that there's a real reason for it.Fallout 76 was revealed fairly recently, and we're now already close to its release. It does however seem like the game struggles a bit with framerate and some other issues--which was due to it being an older build according to other devs we spoke with. Can you talk about some of the challenges that come from keeping the game so secret, while still prepping for its impending release?Yeah, I mean honestly, we just got to art lock [all assets and environmental details set] a week or two ago. And until you get to art lock, you really can't get deep into game optimization. We've done optimization paths on some parts of the world, but not all just yet. But the bigger thing for us was that we had tried to do earlier, we had different parts of the world that were in different places. And with games like ours, we tend to want to say, "Look, just go wherever you want and do whatever you want," that's what's fun about these games.Even though we know that the whole game wasn't optimized, and we know that there's parts of the game we haven't gotten to yet, they were close enough that we were comfortable with letting people get their hands on it. And we felt that experience was really important. That folks, like yourself, not be tied to us and saying, "Well here's the handful of locations you go to." Because that's not what's fun about our games. It's about going, "I wonder what's that way? I'm gonna go that way and see what's that way and see what's over there." "Well I'm going this way. I'll see you later." That's always the experience that we wanted folks to be able to have.As you said earlier, Fallout is really about your own personal experiences with the game. But now you can share it with others online. Do you have a favorite moment from your experiences with Fallout 76, that best sums up how you feel about it?Yeah, I don't have one particular moment that I have that's better than all the others. A lot of it has just been finding surprises and exploring some random cabin that I found on a hill. And then for whatever reason looking inside of a dog house and noticing the side of the dog house had all of these complicated math formulas written on the side, and the back of it had a small periodic table. I'd be thinking to myself, "What was going on here? Who did this?" One of the few times I've played and grouped up with folks, we found one of the amusement parks and one of the carnival games was whack-a-mole.And you can find those things. They're called Commie Bashers cause it was whack the commies on the head instead of the moles, and we realized they were weapons and we all equipped Commie Bashers as a melee weapon and just cleared out the mutant park. It was completely ridiculous and silly, but it was just sort of fun being able to play with others and have a shared experience like that, that was just very different. Of course, I could have seen that on my own, but it wouldn't have been as memorable as with the group. I think folks are really going to enjoy exploring and looking into all the different places where designers have put thought into who was in this world, and what they were doing and what they were leaving behind. There will be a lot of secrets and Easter eggs for people to find. Info from Gamespot.com

Before the HD re-release of Shenmue I & II was announced, there was a full Shenmue remake in the works. From the appearance of gameplay footage, the remake would have looked a whole lot better.According to VG247, Digital Foundary acquired gameplay of the cancelled Shenmue remake. Said remake was canned sometime back in 2017, but Sega has not announced why. The footage contains almost 10 minutes of gameplay and still shots. The video compares scenes from the original game to how it appears in the remaster, as well as how it would have looked in the remake.Shenmue I & II is a remaster of the original two games that adds high resolution textures and improves the lighting and character models. In our Shenmue review, we gave the original game a 7.8/10, writing, "[Shenmue is] a game rich in story, visuals, and environmental stimuli, but light on overall gameplay. Fans of whodunits and RPGs will take quicker to the game's overall premise, but there is enough to please the casual gamer as well." In our Shenmue II review, we gave the game an 8.7/10, complimenting the game for its story and music, but criticizing its graphics. Sega has announced a sequel, Shenmue III, is in the works. First advertised in 2015 as a Kickstarter, Shenmue III is scheduled to release for PS4 and PC on August 27, 2019.Info from Gamespot.com

Blizzard has addressed the rumors that Diablo 3 is getting cross-play support. Although the developer knows of players' excitement, it confirmed Diablo 3 cross-play isn't in the works at all right now."While we love the idea of bringing our players together across platforms, we do not have any plans to implement cross-platform gameplay for Diablo at this time," a Blizzard rep told Comic Book. Diablo 3 exists on several different platforms, including consoles from two different generations. With Sony's decision to try console cross-platform play with Microsoft and Nintendo in Fortnite, some players have looked to other games that could benefit from cross-play. With Diablo 3 on so many platforms, it's been a popular candidate.Prior to Comic Book's confirmation, in an interview with Business Insider, a Blizzard rep said that Diablo 3 cross-platform play was "a question of when, not if." This led to several rumors that the dungeon crawler role-playing game would be supporting cross-play soon. Some theorized the feature might be announced at this year's BlizzCon, but--much like Diablo: Reign of Terror being a new game--it doesn't look like that's the case.Blizzard previously released a statement that there were several Diablo projects in the works. The first one, Diablo 3 coming to Nintendo Switch, has already been announced. However, Blizzard has not revealed what the other projects might be. "Some of them are going to take longer than others, but we may have some things to show you later this year," said community manager Brandy Camel.BlizzCon 2018 starts November 2.Info from Gamespot.com

EA has announced that it is considering a PC remaster of some of the Command & Conquer games. Command & Conquer Rivals is still scheduled for mobile platforms, but EA wants to respect the long-time fans of the franchise who played the original games on PC."Following the reveal of Rivals, we heard you loud and clear: the Command & Conquer community also wants to see the franchise return to PC," wrote EA producer Jim Vessella in a Reddit post. "And as a fan of C&C for over 20 years, I couldn't agree more. With that in mind we've been exploring some exciting ideas regarding remastering the classic PC games, and already have the ball rolling on our first effort to celebrate the upcoming 25th Year Anniversary."The original Command & Conquer first released on PC in 1995 and celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2020. Vessella's post hints that EA already has something planned for the anniversary in the works, but whether or not it's a remaster of the original game remains to be seen. Vessella's original post implies more than one of the Command & Conquer PC games will be remastered, but did not reveal if each title would be released separately or in one collection. In the comments section of his Reddit post, Vessella wrote about definitive details about the remaster if it does come to be, focusing on answering people who wanted to know if the game would have loot boxes or purchasable time savers. "We will not be adding any microtransactions to a C&C Remaster," he wrote.Every Command & Conquer game, from the 1995 original to 2012's MMO Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances, is playable on PC. Even without counting spin-offs, there are nearly a dozen games.Info from Gamespot.com

In our Black Panther review, Michael Rougeau wrote, "Black Panther is a top tier Marvel movie with all the humor, style, action, passion, and fun that the MCU has come to embody.
