Gears Pop, the cute mobile spin-off from the usually grim and gritty Gears of War franchise, made a surprise debut at E3 earlier this year. Now with the game around the corner in some territories, The Coalition has shown the first gameplay footage. In an extended dev diary, studio head Rod Fergusson and game director Tyler Bielman explain that the game is preparing for a soft launch--the practice when mobile games launch in some individual territories to put a game through its paces on a small-scale, similar to a beta. Since word would be getting out regarding the game at that point anyway, The Coalition decided this was the time to show off footage. The result is an extended look at a single match, lasting about three minutes, with a striking resemblance to the mobile game Clash Royale. As Bielman explains, their goals in transitioning Gears to a new format was to deliver on a few pillars of the Gears universe: cover, so-called "explosive moments," and the familiar Gears characters. You can build a team of Gears heroes and villains for 3v3 matches in an arena setting.Gears Pop was one of three games that made its debut at E3 2018, alongside Gears Tactics for PC and Gears 5 for Xbox One. Gears 5 debuted a trailer along with its original announcement. Both Gears 5 and Gears Pop are scheduled for release in 2019, while Tactics doesn't yet have a release date.Info from Gamespot.com

Sony has announced a new PlayStation 4 bundle that includes Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Though plenty of PS4 bargains will be awaiting shoppers on store shelves during Black Friday, this one actually goes on sale the following week for those patient enough to wait for their deal. The bundle includes a 1TB PlayStation 4, DualShock controller, and Black Ops 4, for $300. A 1TB console by itself costs the same, so this essentially throws the game in for free. It will be available in retail stores on November 27.This isn't the best deal going on a new PlayStation 4. A Black Friday bundle offers the same 1TB system with a copy of Spider-Man for $200. For that price you could add Black Ops 4 at standard price get two games for less than the price of a bundle that includes just one. However, that one is tied to Black Friday and will probably only be available for a limited time, while the Black Ops 4 bundle appears to be more standard.GameSpot's Black Ops 4 review found the package felt complete even without a single-player campaign. "Sure, there isn't a traditional single-player campaign, but with the depth and breadth of what is there, Black Ops 4 doesn't need it," wrote critic Kallie Plagge. For more bargains check out our round-ups of all things Black Friday, which includes more deals on PS4 systems and games, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch consoles, and a lot more.Info from Gamespot.com

Bungie has given word on when to expect Destiny 2's next big paid update, Black Armory, along with a heads-up about some growing pains that may come along with it. The new content will drop on December 4, and Bungie warns that the week prior may raise unforeseen issues as it prepares to roll out the update. In an update on the official blog, the team says it is working to make a list of temporary changes so players will know what to expect, and it encourages anyone impacted by unexpected bugs help forum. The Black Armory is part of the new Season of the Forge, which will begin on November 27. It will be followed by the Season of the Drifter, followed by another unnamed season. Season of the Forge will add the new The Dawning event, new Crucible content, and new weapons. Annual Pass holders who can access the Black Armory will get Light and Fury weapons, the new Forges of the Chain activity, a Raid Lair, Exotics, and Legendaries. The blog also noted a set of changes coming to the PvP/PvE hybrid Gambit Mode. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has gotten another global update across all platforms, including quality-of-life improvements, a new Perk system modifier, and PC-specific balance changes. Plus it includes the usual round of regular bug fixes that are to be expected with an ongoing live game.In the patch notes, Treyarch says that the PC balance updates are distinct from the other platforms and the teams evaluate them separately. As a result the notes have their own PC section with additional keybinds, more slight toggles for things like push to talk or Asus Aura RGB effects, and several balance changes to weapons.Meanwhile, all modes got improvements to detecting melee attacks, exploit fixes in Multiplayer, and crash fixes in Zombies. The Zombies mode also got a new modifier to its Perk system to increase weapon reload speed. If you've played previous games you may recognize this as the "Speed Cola" perk. Combining it with Fast Mags/Hybrid Mags, it results in a 50% overall increase."This preserves the role of these weapon attachments in creating the quickest-handling guns in each weapon class," reads the notes. "Additionally, we wanted to ensure the reload modifiers from certain Pack-a-Punch versions of weapons are still meaningful, which stack with the new 'Speed Cola' tuning values."If you haven't yet grabbed Black Ops 4, Amazon has a hot deal offering it for $40. Firaxis has announced its second major expansion to Civilization 6, called Gathering Storm. The name is apropos, as it will introduce a number of new environmental effects along with other new features like a world congress, power and renewable energy, and more. It will release on February 14, 2019 for $40 on PC. The announcement did not detail Switch or mobile release plans. The weather and power resources go hand-in-hand, as you'll be making choices that can impact the ecosystem and the fate of the planet. Natural disasters can wipe out your lands, but they could also enrich the land after they clear out. You'll be able to develop new advanced technologies and engineering projects, and negotiate plans with the world congress. Gathering Storm will also add eight more civs and nine more leaders, along with seven new wonders, and lots of buildings, districts, and so on.Environmental effects include volcanoes, storms like blizzards and hurricanes, climate change, floods, and droughts. Your strategic resources will be consumed in power plants to produce electricity, but as time passes you can turn from a coal- and oil-based energy to renewable energy sources. Your choices regarding renewable energy can also have an effect on world temperature, melting ice caps, and rising sea levels. You'll have new tools to deal with these global threats, with developments like canals, dams, tunnels, and railroads to overcome obstacles in your land. As your civilization evolves you can start to develop cities that are more protected thanks to flood barriers, expanding your build areas. You can also form alliances, influence city states, and compete in world games with the world congress. You'll be able to call a special session to address emergencies, vote on resolutions, and use diplomatic favor to negotiate promises from world leaders. A new era will also be added to the Technology and Civics trees to deal directly with the environmental effects. The nine new leaders will each bring their own bonuses and nine new units, four new buildings, three improvements, two districts, and one unique governor. Those join the seven new world wonders and seven natural wonders, 18 new units, 15 improvements, 9 new buildings, 5 new districts, 2 new city sets, 9 new techs, and 10 new civics. Finally, Gathering Storm will add two more scenarios. The Black Death will put you in the middle of the pandemic that ravaged Europe and western Asia and task you with keeping your people alive. The other, War Machine, is a multiplayer scenario putting you in the role of Germany or France at the outset of World War 1, in the midst of the invasion of Belgium. These will come alongside several new changes to the Espionage system, updates to Culture and Science victories, and new Historic Moments. These all appear primed to add several new layers of strategy to an already complex and enrapturing game. "Civ 6 has a few rough edges, but they’re pushed far into the periphery by spectacular strategic depth and intricate interlocking nuances," said critic Scott Butterworth in GameSpot's Civilization 6 review. "Any frustrations I experienced were immediately eclipsed by my desire to continue playing. Just one more turn, every turn, forever."Info from Gamespot.com

Kingdom Hearts 3 has completed development, and Square Enix has released a new trailer to mark the occasion. While most of the prior trailers have focused primarily on a single cameo like Pooh Bear or Rapunzel, this one celebrates the full scope of the Disney mash-up. You may see it in cinemas if you go to see a movie in the near future. The "Together" trailer featured above includes characters and settings from Frozen, Tangled, Toy Story, Monsters Inc., Big Hero Six, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Hercules. Those join some familiar locales from the history of the series, as this final entry looks to wrap up its sprawling story of light battling against the forces of darkness. The tweet that announced production had wrapped also mentioned that now would be a good time to catch up with Kingdom Hearts 1.5, 2.5, and 2.8. Each of those are included in the Kingdom Hearts: The Story So Far bundle, which costs $40. That includes both of the remastered previous mainline games, along with side-stories like Chain of Memories, Birth By Sleep, and Dream Drop Distance.Kingdom Hearts 3 releases January 29, 2019, and will be the first new numbered entry since Kingdom Hearts 2 in 2005. Fans have been waiting a long time to see this story resolve, and Square Enix and Disney have put the requisite work in to make it a treat for fans--including pulling familiar voices from its various Disney movies.Info from Gamespot.com

Valve's Steam Link device is almost sold out, and the company has signaled it doesn't plan to restock. It's already completely gone in Europe, and the company says it's almost sold out in the US as well.In a statement, Valve said it "intends to continue supporting the existing Steam Link hardware as well as distribution of the software versions of Steam Link." That statement could signal a new version of the Steam Link hardware coming, or simply letting existing users know that they'll keep receiving support. The name has also been applied to a mobile app (available on non-Apple devices) and it has been integrated into TVs. The statement points out that support for those digital applications will continue as well. The Steam Link allowed you to stream games from your gaming PC onto any display. Games could be streamed at 1080p and 60 FPS, and the device supported the Steam controller as well as third-party ones like the Xbox One, as long as you have the proper attachments for wireless controllers. The Steam Link went on sale last year for $20, and then received an even deeper temporary discount later in the year. Valve may have been attempting to clear some stock.Steam Link was one budget option for getting your PC games onto your living room display, as long as you had a powerful PC to run the games natively. Valve also produced Steam Machines for the same purpose, to make PC gaming a more console-like plug-and-play experience.Info from Gamespot.com

It's a massive iteration of the classic arcade fighter franchise, with a wealth of power-ups, modes, and options. To help keep them all straight, Nintendo has released a lengthy trailer. The Overview trailer goes over the broad selection of characters and stages, the various types of power-ups you can expect to see, the Adventure mode, new Spirits mode, various multiplayer modes and options, Amiibo support, and more. It's a very thorough look at all Smash Bros. Ultimate has to offer, clocking in at more than seven minutes long. It's also all narrated to comedic effect by the Smash announcer. Not quite all of the developments from previous Smash games are making the transition, though. We recently learned that it won't let you set custom moves like you could in Smash 4 on Wii U and 3DS. And while you can train your fighters with the Amiibo functionality, some of the new roster additions aren't coming in figurine form until next year. We did, however, get a nice look at some of the newest fighters in action.Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is coming on December 7. The perpetually doomed Sean Bean has shown up in Hitman 2, and it's your job to wipe him out again. Bean appears as the game's first Elusive Target, a man named Mark Faba who has earned the reputation as impossible to kill. He's even earned the nickname "The Undying" for the number of times he's escaped assassination by faking his own death. The mission takes you to Miami, where Faba is trying to complete his own assassination contract at the Global Innovation Race. You'll have 14 days to complete the free mission, but you only get one shot and you can't save your game. If you complete the challenge you'll get the Explosive Pen weapon added to your inventory. But if Faba escapes or if you die or fail the mission in any way, you'll have lost your only chance.A new trailer released alongside the Elusive Target mission highlights some of the ways you can pick off the target. You could use a sniper rifle from across the racetrack, or you could get a little more up close and personal: rig the room to explode, or even pierce his eye with a pen a la the Joker in The Dark Knight. As the trailer notes, many more opportunities will present themselves in the mission as well.Choosing Sean Bean for the game's first Elusive Target is a bit of a meta-gag on the part of the developers. The character actor has become known for playing characters who die, so making him a slippery target who constantly fakes his own death matches. In the first game, actor Gary Busey had a guest role as an Elusive Target."Hitman is about experiencing the anticipation of seeing whether a plan will work when you try it for the first time," critic Edmond Tran said in GameSpot's Hitman 2 review. "It's about feeling the tension of briskly walking away from a bad situation, hoping you can lose the suspicious guards. It's the satisfaction of knowing the machinations of a level so well that when a target moves into a particular place at a particular time, you have the perfect way to intervene. Hitman 2 is a familiar experience, but in the Hitman world, familiarity is an incredible strength."Info from Gamespot.com
