The lawsuit that Bethesda brought against developer Behaviour and media giant Warner Bros. over a Westworld video game has come to an end, it seems.Bethesda and Behaviour announced that they have reached an amicable settlement, though no terms were disclosed. Bethesda initially said Behaviour's Westworld mobile video game was a "blatant ripoff" of Fallout Shelter.Behaviour worked on Fallout Shelter, and Bethesda further alleged that Behaviour "illegally" used the same copyrighted source code from Fallout Shelter to developer the Westworld game. Not only that, but Bethesda claimed Behaviour "copied Fallout Shelter's game design, art, animations, gameplay features, and other elements.Bethesda was suing Behaviour and Warner Bros. for "copyright infringement, breach of contract, and misappropriation of [Bethesda's] intellectual property."Filings with the United States District Court in Maryland, where Bethesda is located, show that Bethesda and Behaviour came to terms on a settlement in principle back in November 2018. A notice dated December 12 confirms that Bethesda and Behaviour "resolved their dispute." Bethesda, Behaviour, and Warner Bros. each will bear their own costs, including attorney's fees; however no other terms of the settlement were disclosed. It is not uncommon for settlement details to remain under wraps. The Westworld game, which is free and supported by microtransactions just like Fallout Shelter, remains available to download on iOS and Android. The line between The Walking Dead and its companion series Fear the Walking Dead is about to get a little more blurry. At the beginning of Fear's fourth season, Morgan (Lennie James) was moved to the series from the original, creating the first crossover between the two shows. Now, based on reports, it looks like he's getting some company.ComicBook.com is reporting that Austin Amelio, who appeared in Seasons 6-8 of The Walking Dead as Negan's right-hand man Dwight, is set to pop up on Fear. The character was last seen in the Season 8 finale of The Walking Dead when he was banned from ever returning to the Alexandria safe zone. While it remains unclear exactly how major this crossover will be, Entertainment Weekly notes that co-showrunner Ian Goldberg previously revealed that new characters would come into play during Fear's fifth season. Should Dwight be one of those, he could serve as a very interesting ally to Morgan. The addition of Amelio takes Fear even further from its origins. At this point, only one of the show's original cast members--Alycia Debnam-Carey--remains. The first half of Season 4 saw the characters played by Kim Dickens and Frank Dillane killed off. Meanwhile, new cast Maggie Grace, Garret Dillahunt, and Jenna Elfman were added this year to round out the show.As for future crossovers, that might become tricky. Early in Season 9 of The Walking Dead, following the departure of Andrew Lincoln, the series jumped ahead 6 years. Unless Fear were to match that at some point, chances are it'll be a while before another character moves from one show to the other.Fear the Walking Dead will return for its fifth season later this year. The second half of The Walking Dead Season 9 premieres on February 10 on AMC.Info from Gamespot.com

Thanks to developer Niantic's steady rollout of new content, 2018 turned out to be a big year for Pokemon Go. Not only was the title selected by GameSpot as one of the year's best evolving multiplayer games, it also saw an impressive jump in revenue.According to mobile tracker Sensor Tower, Pokemon Go generated an estimated $795 million in revenue worldwide in 2018--a 35% increase over 2017. US players sunk the most money into the game last year, spending an estimated $262 million in 2018, although Japanese players weren't far behind, spending approximately $239 million.Daily spending in Pokemon Go was up as well last year. The game generated an average of about $2.2 million per day in 2018. Players also spent more than $75 million on the game in the month of December alone between Google Play and the App Store, up from $57.2 million spent during the same month in 2017.These impressive figures can likely be attributed in part to the regular stream of new Pokemon, events, and features that Niantic introduced to Pokemon Go throughout 2018. Early in the year, the developer kicked off a new monthly series of events called Community Days, which give players around the world a chance to catch rare Pokemon and learn exclusive moves for one day every month. On top of that, Niantic implemented a host of new features in the game. Last summer saw the long-awaited arrival of friends list and trading, while PvP trainer battles finally arrived in December. Niantic also introduced Adventure Sync, a feature that allows Pokemon Go to track your distance walked even when idle, making it easier to hatch Eggs.Pokemon Go's latest in-game event, the Adventure Sync Hatchathon, is currently underway. The event runs until January 15, during which time you'll earn twice the normal amount of Candy and Stardust for hatching Eggs. Meanwhile, the next Community Day is scheduled to take place on January 12 and will feature the Gen 2 starter Totodile.Beyond Pokemon Go, Niantic is also co-developing a Harry Potter mobile game with Warner Bros. titled Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. The game was originally slated to launch in 2018, but it will now arrive sometime this year. The studio also recently launched an enhanced version of its original mobile game titled Ingress Prime.Info from Gamespot.com

Actor Will Poulter, who played the star video game designer on the buzzy choose-your-own-adventure Black Mirror episode, Bandersnatch, has announced he's reconsidering how he uses social media in the wake of his "recent experiences." He said he's taking a "step back" from Twitter to focus on his mental health. In a statement released on Twitter, Poulter said he thanked everyone for watching Bandersnatch, and added that he accepts "all criticisms." He's stepping away from social media due to his "recent experiences." Though Poulter didn't mention any specific experience, he may be referring to the reaction on social media to his character, a game designer named Colin Ritman who has some interesting ideas about the way the world works and conspiracy theories."In light of my recent experiences I am choosing to take a step back, of sorts, from Twitter. Before I do, I'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to everybody who has watched Bandersnatch and for their responses (whatever they may be) to the material we created. I accept all criticisms and it's been a delight to learn that so many of you enjoyed what many people worked very hard to produce," he said. The statement continues: "As we all know there is a balance to be struck in our engagements with social media. There are positives to enjoy and inevitable negatives that are best avoided. It's a balance I have struggled with for a while now and in the interest of my mental health I feel the time has come to change my relationship with social media."Poulter said he'll continue to use social media to advocate for the various charitable organisations he works with for things like anti-bullying, but apart from that, it appears the actor is done with social media for now."I don't want to appear unappreciative of all the amazing support I have received online for which I am genuinely so grateful, nor do I want my disengagement with social media to be at the expense of any of the organisations I am lucky to work with," he said. "I am privileged to have this platform. I hope that this shift to reduce my personal expression and increase the focus on issues that matter will result in a better outcome for everyone. This is not the end. Consider it an alternative path."Poulter's first major role was in Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 2010. He's since gone on to appear in the Oscar-winning movie The Revenant, along with The Maze Runner and Kathryn Bigelow's Detroit. In other news about Bandersnatch, Netflix has released a pair of neat behind-the-scenes features in which writer Charlie Brooker, some of the actors, and other creatives talk about how they made the unique episode that lets you choose how events play out.As you can clearly tell, Bandersnatch was no small endeavour. It required a lot of work, and the extended production time led to a delay for Black Mirror Season 5.Info from Gamespot.com

Update: Netflix has officially announced the hiring of Spencer Neumann, who becomes the company's new CFO, replacing David Wells. There's only a single mention in Netflix's press release of his role at Activision. It's unclear how soon he'll start in the new role or whether he'll attempt to prove he should not have been dismissed by Activision. The original story follows.Activision Blizzard, the gaming giant behind franchises like Call of Duty, Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and Diablo, has lost one of its senior executives. The California-based publisher announced that chief financial officer Spencer Neumann was notified on December 31 that his contract with Activision Blizzard was terminated. The company decided to terminate Neumann's contract "for cause unrelated to the Company's financial reporting or disclosure controls and procedures," Activision Blizzard said in US Securities & Exchange Commission filing. In a PR statement, it said that he was "terminated for cause for violating his legal obligations to the Company."Neumann is now on paid leave, and he's been given the opportunity to "demonstrate why cause does not exist to terminate his employment or why termination of his employment is not otherwise justified."Activision Blizzard chief corporate officer Dennis Durkin is taking over for Neumann as CFO in the interim. Should Neumann end up leaving Activision Blizzard, Durkin will officially step into the role of CFO, the company said. Durkin was CFO from 2012-2017.A source told Reuters that Neumann is leaving Activision Blizzard to join video streaming giant Netflix. Netflix's former CFO, David Wells, announced last August that he was leaving the company after 14 years. The source told Reuters that Netflix wanted its next CFO to be based in Los Angeles, which Neumann is.According to Reuters, Neumann is expected to start at Netflix in early 2019, so an official announcement might be coming soon.Neumann had been Activision Blizzard's CFO since May 2017. Before joining the company, he rose through the ranks at Disney, eventually becoming the CFO of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. At the time of this writing, investors don't appear to be worried about the news, with Activision shares up 1.4%. Bethesda parent company ZeniMax has filed a trademark application for a new game called "Deathloop." The goods and services description in the trademark application filed with the United States Patent & Trademark Office on December 26, 2018 states that Deathloop could be an online-enabled mobile game. That's all there is to go on at this stage, however.Trademark applications are not necessarily good predictors of future products, but they're still intriguing to look over and consider. ZeniMax originally filed a trademark application for Starfield back in 2013, and it wasn't until 2018 that the company officially announced Starfield as one of Bethesda Game Studios' next projects.Bethesda enjoyed tremendous success with its first mobile game, Fallout Shelter, so it's no surprise that the company may be returning to that arena with a new game. Bethesda opened a new studio in Montreal back in 2015, and that branch was dedicated in part to mobile game development.Bethesda did not respond to a request for comment outside of regular business hours.A so-called death loop in a video game is when a game reloads after a save with players finding themselves thrust into a situation they can't get out of without dying. A death loop is also a problematic situation that can happen in kitesurfing. While we don't know what Bethesda's Deathloop video game is about, it's probably not related to kitesurfing. It's also possible that Deathloop never becomes a video game, because it could be that Bethesda is merely trademarking the name to protect its potential future use.Bethesda's latest big game was Fallout 76, which launched in November for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Critics had mixed reactions, and the game sold relatively well in the United States. One of Bethesda's next mobile games is The Elder Scrolls Blades, the first entry in the long-running RPG series, for mobile devices. It's due out in early 2019. Info from Gamespot.com

Red Dead Redemption 2 was one of the biggest games of 2018, and we now know it ended the year at the top of the UK sales chart. Rockstar's open-world PS4 and Xbox One game was the best-selling physical game in the UK's final trading week of the year after also topping the Christmas chart the week before.FIFA 19 follows at No.2 for the week ending December 29, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 rounding off a podium of big hitters for the end of 2018. Nintendo Switch exclusive Super Smash Bros. Ultimate rises one place to No.4, swapping positions with Battlefield V.No new titles entered the chart this week, though old faces do crop up: both Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy are in the top 10 at No.7 and No.9, respectively. The continued success of the '90s gaming mascots is an encouraging sign for Activision with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled coming to Switch, PS4, and Xbox One in June. There are no major titles launching until later in January, so the chart will likely remain similar until New Super Mario Bros. You might have been enjoying a rare break over the festive period, but Fortnite definitely was not. Epic Games has been continuing to expand its battle royale phenomenon, and its latest update adds a new item, the Boom Box.A specialist structure-counter, the Boom Box delivers "blasts of music that deal structure damage in a large area," according to Epic. "Newly built walls in the radius of the box are destroyed with every blast." Boom Boxes are discoverable in chests, and they are destroyed when shot. They deal no direct damage to players, but completely stop buildings and structures from forming and destroy them if already built.Elsewhere, two new weapons have been added to Save the World. The Pain Train Assault Rifle has a slow rate of fire but high damage, and it's available in the weekly store until January 9. The Tree of Light Sword, meanwhile, is available as a weekly challenge reward, and is also a high-damage weapon--it does take a while to swing, however. Monster Hunter World is welcoming another crossover from a fellow franchise, this time bringing in characters and costumes from the Assassin's Creed series. You can earn one of two signature looks straight out of the assassin's guild wardrobe, as long as you have the chops to take down some monsters first.A new event quest SDF: Silent, Deadly, and Fierce drops you into an arena against some fierce monsters: Odogoron and Deviljho together, followed by Lunastra. Taking down all three will grant you a Senu's Feather item, which Assassin's Creed fans will recognize as a reference to Bayek's eagle from Assassin's Creed Origins. You can trade two feathers for a layered armor that makes you appear as Bayek himself. An Assassin hood gives you a speed boost to running, climbing, and croaching, and deals extra damage if you attack from stealth.Capcom released a trailer showing off the special duds, complete with a (sort of) leap of faith. This is an event quest, so you'll have a limited time to take part and earn your rewards.Monster Hunter World has received lots of continued support, including an anniversary event coming this month. Another planned crossover will bring in Geralt, the famed monster hunter from The Witcher 3, into the game. Its first big expansion, Iceborne, is coming this fall. The user-friendly revisions paired with a lot of continued support helped earn it a spot among our favorite games of 2018.Info from Gamespot.com

It's a new month and a new year. And because we've breezed passed the first Tuesday in January, a fresh set of six games is available for free to all PlayStation Plus subscribers. So whether you have a PS4, PS3, or PS Vita, you can head to the PS Plus page to add the freebies to your library. Just make sure you do it before Sony changes them out for next month's games on February 5.PS4 owners can grab the Ubisoft extreme sports game Steep, which takes place on an open-world version of the Alps that you can descend using skis, a snowboard, or wingsuit. The other PS4 game is Portal Knights, a co-op RPG that incorporates Minecraft-like building mechanics. If you have a PS3, you can pick up the trippy music-rhythm game Amplitude (also playable on PS4) and the robot battling bundle Zone of the Enders HD Collection. January's games for Vita owners are the action-RPG Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellions (playable on PS4 as well) and the arcade action-platformer Super Mutant Alien Assault. If you use PS Plus mainly to fill out your PS3 or PS Vita game libraries, here's a friendly reminder: starting in March 2019, Sony will no longer give away free PS3 and PS Vita games for PS Plus members. It's unclear if anything will replace these freebies, but if you subscribe to PS Plus primarily for those free titles, consider turning off your subscription's auto-renewal option or canceling it by then.PlayStation Plus Games For January 2019PS4SteepPortal KnightsAmplitude (also on PS3)Fallen Legion: Flames of the Rebellion (also on PS Vita)PS3Zone of the Enders HD CollectionAmplitude (also on PS4)PS VitaFallen Legion: Flames of the Rebellion (also on PS4)Super Mutant Alien AssaultInfo from Gamespot.com

It's the beginning of a new month, which means new Field Research tasks are now available in Pokemon Go. Just as with December's Field Research, if you complete enough tasks to achieve a Research Breakthrough, you'll have a chance to encounter one of several different Legendary Pokemon, including two new possibilities: Ho-Oh and Lugia.Following their brief return for a special Raid weekend event last month, the Pokemon Gold and Silver cover monsters are now among the Legendaries you can catch when you achieve a Research Breakthrough, joining the previously available Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. You'll have an opportunity to encounter these Pokemon through the end of February. In contrast to Special Research quests, which are assigned by Professor Willow and typically lead to an encounter with a Mythical Pokemon such as Meltan, Field Research tasks are acquired by spinning the Photo Disc at Poke Stops. You'll earn a stamp for the first Field Research task you complete each day; collecting seven stamps will lead to a Research Breakthrough. On top of the new Field Research tasks, another Legendary Pokemon, Heatran, is still available in Go. The Gen 4 Legendary debuted as a Raid boss last month immediately following Cresselia's departure, and it's scheduled to appear in Raid Battles until January 15.Pokemon Go's first Community Day of 2019 is also just around the corner. The event takes place next Saturday, January 12, and will feature the final Gen 2 starter Pokemon, Totodile. Players will also be able to hatch Eggs at a quarter of their typical required distance during the Community Day.Info from Gamespot.com

Fallout 76 had a tumultuous launch, but Bethesda has been consistently sharing plans to continue improving and iterating on the game well into the future. An update that outlines some planned features includes one big change: the ability to open up your own shops. In a blog update to celebrate the new year, the studio promises bug fixes upcoming, and then briefly goes over some long-term feature plans. Those include a new PvP mode, new quests, and new Vaults opening, but the biggest feature is mentioned with just two words: Player Vending. That suggests that players will be able to open their own shops and sell unwanted loot, likely for in-game currency. That would be a shot in the arm to the in-game economy. It would also give players some more non-combat interactions, bringing it that much closer to the community-building aspect that is core to the concept of repopulating the earth. A similar blog post at the end of last year detailed some upcoming plans, including a new mode without PvP restrictions in place.Bethesda's commitment to keep development going comes amid heavy criticism and a surprising list of issues both inside the game and surrounding its promotion. It received heavy criticism for its canvas bags with the limited edition, which then gave way to a personal data leak. And that all came alongside an investigation into a PC refund policy and a generally negative critical reception. It currently stands at around 52 on GameSpot sister site Metacritic."Bethesda has stated it intends to continue supporting the game for a long time, but at launch, Fallout 76 is a poor experience," critic Edmond Tran wrote in GameSpot's review. "There are echoes of the series' admirable qualities, but look past that facade, past the cute Vault Boy animations, past the familiar radio tracks, and you'll find no heart--just an inconsequential wasteland doomed to be nuked over and over again."Info from Gamespot.com

It's a sad day for professional wrestling fans around the world. Gene Okerlund, better known as "Mean Gene," has passed away at 76 years old. The news was confirmed by CBS News and WWE, where he became one of the most recognizable interviewers in the history of the industry.Okerlund got his start in the professional wrestling industry in 1970 when he began working for the American Wrestling Association as a part-time ring announcer and interviewer. During this time, he was given the nickname "Mean Gene" by Jesse "The Body" Ventura. It was in 1983 that he moved to what was known at the time as the WWF, becoming a mainstay on the company's various shows during the pro wrestling boom brought on by the rise of Hulk Hogan. He stayed with the company for a decade before moving to WCW, where he stayed until WWE purchased the company in 2001. At that point, Okerlund returned to the company that made him famous and appeared sporadically over the years, even filming a reality show for the company called Legends House, which is available on the WWE Network. In the wake of Okerlund's death, a number of WWE superstars, both past and present, shares their condolences online.
