As expected, Super Bowl LIII has given us plenty of new trailers to watch. On top of a new Avengers: Endgame spot, Marvel and Disney offered viewers another quick look at Captain Marvel, which releases in theaters next month. The trailer begins with Carol Danvers getting ready to hop in a jet, saying she's ready to go "higher, further, and faster." You can get a full rundown in our Captain Marvel Super Bowl trailer breakdown. From there, there's quick cuts between hard-hitting moments of action, with Carol training, standing in the midst of some destruction in her Captain Marvel costume, being subsumed by energy, and flying into outer space where she launches projectiles at enemies. The whole time an almost robotic female voice can be heard saying, "higher, faster, further." It's pretty badass and you can watch it above--it's all a bit more optimistic than the Endgame trailer, where things remain fairly bleak.Captain Marvel follows the shocking conclusion of Avengers: Infinity War, during which Nick Fury put out a distress signal to Carol. How that moment plays into the ongoing broader story remains to be seen, but a younger version of Fury plays a central role in Captain Marvel, so we'll see plenty of him anyway. As for Captain Marvel herself, yes, the character is a woman.Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8. Check out one of the other trailers for the movie to get acquainted with the character before the movie releases, and before she becomes a big part of Avengers: Endgame too. Avengers: Endgame comes to theaters on April 26.Head over to CBS Sports to watch Super Bowl LIII, along with the adverts and trailers, live.Info from Gamespot.com

Super Bowl LIII was replete with trailers, and although movies are often the biggest draw--see: Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame--a few TV shows also caught viewers' attention. One of these is the upcoming Twilight Zone reboot from Get Out director Jordan Peele. The trailer pulled a bit of a bait and switch on us by interrupting what looked like the official Super Bowl broadcast, before cutting to an empty stadium. This was all setup to introduce Jordan Peele, who is not only producing the new Twilight Zone series, but is also narrating it. The stadium seems to exist in two different dimensions, with lights flicking on and off, sodas vanishing, and signs also disappearing in mid-air. Peele eventually asks the viewer to question the truth, and also what dimension they're in.The Twilight Zone is scheduled to premiere on April 1. The TV series will debut on CBS All Access, and be exclusive for subscribers. The first two episodes will be available for subscribers on Monday, April 1, with new ones releasing on a weekly basis from Thursday, April 11.Along with Peele, The Twilight Zone's cast includes Ike Barinholtz, John Cho, Lucinda Dryzek, Taissa Farmiga, Greg Kinnear, Luke Kirby, Sanaa Lathan, Kumail Nanjiani, Adam Scott, Rhea Seehorn, Alison Tolman, Jacob Tremblay, Jefferson White, Jonathan Whitesell, Jessica Williams, DeWanda Wise and Steven Yeun.If you're after trailers from this year's Super Bowl, make sure check out the new Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel trailers.Disclosure: CBS is GameSpot's parent company. If you're watching the 2019 Super Bowl, you probably saw plenty of Bud Light commercials over the course of the evening--many of which were about corn syrup. However, during one spot in the second quarter, the Bud Knight met his demise at the hands of The Mountain. It was turning out to be another silly Bud Light ad, where the King and Queen were enjoying a couple of beers and about to watch the Bud Knight triumph during a joust. At least, that's what they thought would happen.Sadly, the Bud Knight was knocked off his horse during this exhibition, and the new champion was none other than Gregor Clegane, also known as The Mountain from HBO's Game of Thrones. Clegane walked up to the fallen knight, and used his thumbs to gouge out his eyes. We're all presuming the Bud Knight is now dead. It didn't end there. A dragon flew overhead and burned everything to the ground. Is "dilly dilly" no more? This was easily one of the oddest commercials during the final NFL game of the season. While this was a sad moment, we were all reminded that Game of Thrones is returning for its final season this April. The first trailer for the new season aired back in January in a cryptic teaser, which didn't contain any actual footage. However, it did hint at the fates of members of the Stark family.Game of Thrones returns to HBO for its final season on April 14 at 9 PM ET / PT. And you can watch the Super Bowl live while the game is still going on.Info from Gamespot.com

Something is going on with Respawn, although it's still not confirmed officially what that is. Leaks have circulated throughout the weekend regarding a new game called Apex Legends; whatever it is, the developer will be sharing details during a stream at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 4 PM GMT.Respawn CEO Vince Zampella sent out a tweet during the Super Bowl that linked to a Twitch account called Play Apex. This account is scheduled to host a livestream on Monday. There is zero context to what the stream will be about, as neither Zampella's tweet or the Twitch account reveal specific details.Zampella's message seems to reference the leaks, saying, "Looks like everything is unlocked now? Fun. So, if you like Respawn, our games or even me, you should tune in tomorrow. Our stream starts at 8 AM PT and we'll tell you everything about Apex Legends. Everything."Respawn is the developer behind Titanfall and Titanfall 2, two popular first-person shooters that see players engage in large-scale battles as either agile Pilots or powerful Titans. Titanfall 2 is one of the most critically-acclaimed shooters in recent years--we gave it a 9/10 in our review and listed it as one of our top games in 2016--and fans of it have been clamoring for more since its release. In Titanfall 2, unlike its predecessor, you can pick which faction you choose to fight for in multiplayer. One of those factions is the Apex Predators. The Apex Predators are also featured heavily in the game's campaign, as the group of merciless guns for hire who serve as Titanfall 2's primary antagonists. Seeing as Respawn is no longer making more post-launch content for Titanfall 2, it's probable that the upcoming live stream is for something brand new. Even so, the Twitch channel's name implies it still might relate back to the 2016 game. We've known for a while that Respawn has been working on another Titanfall title. The developer has actually confirmed its working on three games right now--Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, some Titanfall-related game, and an unnamed VR title. During an EA quarterly earning call, the company's CEO Andrew Wilson announced that at least two Respawn games would release in 2019. One of those has been confirmed to be Jedi Fallen Order, which is scheduled for release sometime before the 2019 holiday season, but we have no official word on what the other title(s) might be.Info from Gamespot.com

Halftime has concluded for the 2019 Super Bowl, where the New England Patriots faced the Los Angeles Rams. And while CBS offered a halftime show featuring Maroon 5 and Atlanta's own Big Boi, WWE delivered something completely different--shirtless people punching each other. The resident wrestling nerds of GameSpot could not have been happier about this, as WWE's Halftime Heat aired on the WWE Network, along with YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. And if you're someone who frequents GameSpot, then you know Mat Elfring and Chris E. Hayner are going to talk about wrestling. Just like any PPV, we're going to review the match. You can watch the match for yourself below. Halftime Heat starts at 3:34:29.Aleister Black, Ricochet & Velveteen Dream vs. Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano & Adam ColeWow… Triple H kicks off the whole thing by saying, "If you are all in as a fan, then NXT is for you." Shots have been fired, and they didn't need to be. Or maybe I'm looking way too much into the "all in" aspect of his line, which was the largest independent wrestling shows of 2018: one I got to attend. The atmosphere is bizarre, considering this is taking place inside the Performance Center and the crowd isn't as big nor as rukus as a normal NXT crowd. Sure, it got better as it went on, but it didn't start off too hot. Velveteen Dream feels so out of place in this match, in the best way possible. His NFL-inspired ring gear is awesome, and he's the only wrestler on his team who is 100% personality. He rounds out the group really well. Then, there's Ricochet, who I could watch flip around the ring all night. The dude is a complete innovator.Around the 10 minute mark, I noticed I've turned into a morose mouth-breather as my jaw has been completely dropped after a series of insane high spots. As this match progressed, we got some amazing spots, and Adam Cole became the whipping post for Team Dream. I wasn't surprised by the outcome of this, by any means. It delivered exactly like I thought it would and was the perfect counter-programming for CBS' halftime show. The only real problem--for me--with Halftime Heat was that the in-ring storytelling aspect of wrestling wasn't really as solid as it could have been. It was primarily tons of high spots to get new folks engaged with the product, which is perfectly fine. This match played as more of a Greatest Hits than a full-fledged wrestling match. I guess the only real question I have for WWE is, "Who is watching Halftime Heat that already isn't super familiar with the WWE and NXT products?" Regardless of my nitpicking, this was a blast, and I hope WWE does this again next year.Side note: Hey, WWE Network. Work on your app on Smart TVs. During a 16 minute match, it crashed on me three different times, including during the finish.-- Mat Elfring (9/10)When WWE announced that NXT was going to have its own Halftime Heat event, it was great news because I don't really care for Maroon 5. That said, it also meant the brand would have to deliver the absolute best it has to make for a compelling Super Bowl alternative. Thankfully, NXT delivered in a massive way and had to make a few new fans tonight, between airing live on the WWE Network and across the company's streaming platforms. Right from the start, it was clear that the small crowd at the performance center was made up of die-hard fans that were ready to be loud, as each NXT Superstar--six of the brand's top names--made their way to the ring. What followed was an exciting six-man tag match loaded with high spots, everyone getting in their signature moves, and an actual story. It was all set up at the end of TakeOver: Phoenix, when the three heroes and three villains had a pull-apart brawl, something that overflowed onto Halftime Heat. I honestly can't say enough about how great this was, even with some shaky production work at the beginning of the broadcast. It's hit some highlights, though.Velveteen Dream's football-inspired attire was amazing, as were the tackles he doled out early in the match.Having a female referee preside over Halftime Heat was so smart. Those who watch NXT already know women are referees for some matches. However, for non-fans, having a female in charge helps to show how much the role of women in WWE has changed over the last few years.Shawn Michaels joining the commentary team for the show was the right move. He's clearly super passionate about NXT as one of the brand's trainers and it showed in how he spoke about the action. Honestly, they should utilize him in that role more.If this didn't make you a believer in Ricochet and his ability to do literally anything, I don't know what will. That said, he defies gravity regularly and I love it.Something this match did was allow each talent to show off their style of fighting. For Aleister Black, this means kicking as hard as he possibly can and itlooks so painful for his victim each time.I know wrestling fans are split on the overuse of the superkick. I love it and loved how it was on display here.I love Tommaso Ciampa and think he's a great NXT Champion, but find me a better heel than Adam Cole, I dare you.-- Chris E. Hayner (10/10) Info from Gamespot.com

During the Super Bowl, a new Captain Marvel trailer debuted (as did an Avengers Endgame trailer). And, as we've seen in the past, it again has people asking whether Captain Marvel the character has always been a woman. As with so many things in comics, that's a complex subject, as detailed below. While we're a couple months away from Marvel's next movie, Captain Marvel, the second trailer has arrived, and yes, she's still punching old women in the face. The character has a very confusing history, which has led to a few people to question who this character is. More specifically, some are not sure why she's a woman. To the average person who isn't well-versed in comic book lore, this can all be a little confusing. Don't worry, we'll get you up to date and explain it all as quickly as possible.First are foremost, comic book continuity is confusing and full of plot holes and errors. Keeping track of what's gone down in stories for the past 80 years or so can be quite the task. However, Captain Marvel at Marvel Comics is a woman and has been for the past six years, and the character behind the mask--Carol Danvers--has been a part of the collective comic book universe for 50 years now. When Danvers took on the role of Captain Marvel, it made the character relevant again, which it hadn't been for 30 years or so.So let's talk Captain Marvel. There are three main characters using this name. The first is DC Comics' Captain Marvel--who goes by the name Shazam now. He's actually a young boy named Billy Batson who becomes a superpowered adult when he yells "Shazam." He's the DC hero in the red suit with a giant yellow lightning bolt on his chest. Zachary Levi will be playing the character on the big screen on April 5, 2019.Then, there's Marvel's first Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell. He was the captain of a Kree militia and a protector of the universe. Mar-Vell died in 1978 after inhaling poisonous gas and getting terminal cancer. He's been resurrected a few times, and still shows up every now and again but he hasn't been a heavy hitter for decades. So that leaves us with Carol Danvers, the current Captain Marvel. Throughout the years, many people of various sexes and races--both alien and human--have fought under this mantle, but Danvers was the person that made this character relevant again. If you grew up in the '90s and watched the X-Men cartoon, you know who this character is. In the realm of X-Men: The Animated Series as well as comic book canon, Rogue got her super-strength and flight by sucking the life out of Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers. However, Danvers eventually recovered, and years later, after the Avengers vs. X-Men storyline, she took on the mantle of Captain Marvel. Her backstory is wildly confusing, as is almost every cosmic character from Marvel's silver age. However, her origin is getting a little bit of a clean up in the new movie. You can learn more about the character by checking out her history video above to see just how insane it is or wait until Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8, 2019.Info from Gamespot.com

Week 9's challenges have now arrived in Fortnite, which means we're nearing the end of the game's seventh season. This week's missions involve popping golden balloons and dancing on a sundial, oversized coffee cup, and metal dog head, among other tasks, which will net you Battle Stars and level your Battle Pass up once completed. As usual, there's an added benefit to completing as many challenges as possible. If you clear all of the ones from a given week, you'll also complete a Snowfall challenge, which will unlock a special loading screen that contains a subtle clue pointing to a free Battle Star or Banner hidden somewhere around the island. If you've finished all nine weeks' worth of challenges thus far, you'll receive the loading screen pictured below. This one features the Prisoner--the Legendary skin you'll earn for completing 60 weekly challenges--emerging from its cell in Polar Peak's dungeon. Look carefully at the ice wall on the left side of the image, however, and you'll spot an etching of a Battle Star above what appears to be a giant sled. The sled in question can be found in the area to the south of Shifty Shafts. Glide there at the beginning of a match, head under the sled, and the Battle Star will appear. Collect it and finish the match, and your Battle Star will be leveled up by one tier. If you need more help finding it, we've marked its exact location on the map below. As is the case with other Snowfall challenges, this Battle Star won't appear unless you've completed the required number of challenges. You won't be able to just head to the right location and pick it up until you've completed nine weeks' worth of challenges and unlocked the above loading screen. Fortunately, we have tips for this season's trickier missions in our complete Season 7 challenges guide. There are only a few weeks remaining in Season 7, so you only have a little more time to complete any remaining challenges and unlock this season's Battle Pass rewards. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's first DLC character, Piranha Plant, arrived earlier this week alongside the big 2.0.0 update. Nintendo offered the new fighter for free to players who purchased and registered their games on My Nintendo by January 31, but if you missed the cutoff date, you now have the option to buy it.Piranha Plant is now available to purchase in the Switch Eshop. Unlike the other planned DLC characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Piranha Plant isn't included in the game's Fighters Pass, so you only have the option to pick it up individually. If you do want to add it to your roster, it costs $5--slightly cheaper than the price of other upcoming fighters, presumably because it doesn't come with a new stage and music tracks.Beyond Piranha Plant, Nintendo is working on five other DLC characters for Smash Bros. Ultimate. The first of these will be Joker from Persona 5. Each new fighter will come in a pack alongside a stage and multiple music tracks for $6. You'll also be able to get all of them at a discount through the $25 Fighters Pass. Picking up the Fighters Pass will also get you a bonus Mii costume based on Rex from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.All of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's DLC characters are slated to arrive by February 2020. Nintendo hasn't officially revealed the identities of the remaining four fighters yet, but during the Game Awards in December, NOA president Reggie Fils-Aime teased they will all be newcomers to the series and are characters "who you wouldn't anticipate."Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launched for Nintendo Switch on December 7 and has set new sales records for the series. Not only was it Amazon's best-selling video game of 2018 (and the US's fifth best-selling game) despite launching near the end of the year, it has already sold 12 million copies around the world, making it Nintendo's third best-selling Switch game to date.Info from Gamespot.com

After multiple delays, Nintendo finally launched its paid online subscription service for Switch last September. While the company doesn't typically disclose usage numbers, it did share some insight on how the service has been faring thus far.In its recent financial results briefing, Nintendo revealed that the Nintendo Switch Online service has more than eight million subscribed accounts. According to the company, this figure doesn't include accounts that only participated in the free trial, but it does factor in every account included under a family membership, which allows up to eight account holders across different Switch consoles to share the benefits of one subscription."Nintendo Switch Online has had a good start," president Shuntaro Furukawa said in the briefing. "In keeping with the goal of providing Nintendo Switch owners with 'More Games. More Features. More Fun,' we are working on continuing to expand the service offerings."Nintendo didn't share any further details on how it will expand NSO, but during the briefing, the company teased that it is working on an unannounced Switch game that is "suitable" for the service (via Siliconera), presumably meaning it will emphasize online play. Rumors have circulated that SNES games could also be coming to the service, although Nintendo hasn't confirmed this.Much like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live, the Nintendo Switch Online service is required to play Nintendo Switch games online. It gives subscribers a few other benefits as well, such as the ability to back up their save data to the cloud and exclusive access to a library of classic NES games. NSO subscribers are also eligible for "special offers," such as an exclusive set of NES-style controllers for Switch.Info from Gamespot.com

Nintendo is partnering with Illumination Entertainment, the company behind Despicable Me and Minions, to produce an animated film based on the Super Mario series. The project was formally announced last January following a report by the Wall Street Journal, and now Nintendo has revealed when it's expected to hit theaters. In Nintendo's financial results briefing, president Shuntaro Furukawa announced that development on the Super Mario movie is "moving along for an anticipated theatrical release around 2022." Nintendo didn't share any other new details about the film, but it has previously been confirmed that Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto will be producing. This, of course, isn't the first feature film to be based on the Mario series. A live-action Super Mario Bros. movie released in 1993 and was a critical and commercial failure. Bob Hoskins, the late actor who portrayed Mario in the film, called it the worst movie he's ever been a part of. Nintendo, likely wary of another flop, has said it may abandon the animated film if it isn't "interesting" enough. The animated Super Mario movie is part of Nintendo's new initiative to leverage its IP beyond video games. Nintendo is also partnering with Universal Studios Japan to build a Super Nintendo Land theme park, which is slated to "open in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics." On top of that, Nintendo has announced it is opening an official Nintendo Tokyo store in Japan this fall.Despite these new initiatives, Furukawa reaffirmed that Nintendo will remain first and foremost a video game company. "Nintendo's core business will continue to be the integrated hardware-software video game platform business," he said in the financial results briefing. The company has a number of big exclusives for Switch lined up for this year, including a new Animal Crossing game and a "core" Pokemon RPG.Nintendo also has multiple smartphone games on the way. The company recently announced a Dr. Mario mobile game, which is due out early summer. However, its Mario Kart mobile game, which was originally scheduled to launch by the end of March, has been delayed.Info from Gamespot.com

Following Palkia's arrival in Raid Battles earlier this week, a few new Pokemon have begun appearing in Pokemon Go. Niantic has introduced another handful of monsters originally from the series' fourth-generation titles, Diamond and Pearl, to the mobile game, including a couple of new evolved forms and baby Pokemon. If you have a Sinnoh Stone, you're now able to evolve Lickitung, Tangela, Aipom, and Yanma into their respective evolutions: Lickilicky, Tangrowth, Ambipom, and Yanmega. Additionally, male Kirlia can be evolved into the Psychic/Fighting Pokemon Gallade, while female Snorunt can be evolved into Froslass.A handful of new monsters can also be found in the wild. You'll now have a chance of encountering Combee, Glameow, and the fossil Pokemon Shieldon and Cranidos out in the field. Happiny, Mime Jr., and Bonsly--the baby forms of Chansey, Mr. Mime, and Sudowoodo, respectively--also now have a chance of hatching from certain Eggs.Along with the new Pokemon, Niantic has made some notable changes to Raid Battles. As the developer detailed on the official Pokemon Go website, Raid bosses will now have more HP "to offset some of the damage increases made to the attacks of other Pokémon in the last year." Niantic has also made balance changes for various moves in Trainer Battles, and certain Pokemon are now capable of learning new attacks. The aforementioned Legendary Pokemon Palkia will appear in Raid Battles until February 28. Meanwhile, the next Pokemon Go Community Day is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 16. The featured Pokemon this month will be Swinub.Info from Gamespot.com

When Supernatural first premiered on The WB back in 2005--the same year YouTube came into existence--it was introduced as the story of two brothers, reunited and fighting the evil forces their family had been chasing for years. Now, 300 episodes later, Supernatural is still exactly that. While secondary characters have come and gone, it always comes back to the tale of Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) and his brother Dean (Jensen Ackles), traveling from town-to-town and vanquishing whatever otherworldly forces seem to be wreaking havoc. There's a third piece of the Winchester puzzle that's been with the brothers since the very beginning, though, and it's as integral to the formula as anyone or anything else on the show. When Dean rolled back into his brother's life in the show's pilot, he did it in his trusty 1967 Chevrolet Impala, nicknamed "Baby" and passed down to him by his dad.Baby, in many ways, is the heart and soul of Supernatural. For the brothers, it is the armory of weapons they use to fight against any number of demonic entities, their home on long nights with no motel room in sight, and the vessel that takes them to a new locale each week. The car has even had its own episode of the series in Season 11's "Baby," which told a story from the Impala's point of view. What's more, Baby is the one piece of the Winchesters' past that they've been able to hold onto. The one thing that's always there for them, regardless of circumstances, ever since it was passed to Dean from their father. "I think if Dean were a child Baby would be his blanket," Ackles explained to GameSpot at Supernatural's 300th episode celebration. "That's his safe place. [It's] kind of the touchstone of who he is. It represents a lot, and I think it represents a lot to the show. It's the one constant in his life other than his brother."A constant isn't exactly something Dean--of his brother, for that matter--has the luxury of, given the life of a hunter of supernatural entities. While it may be the "Family business," as Dean has reminded viewers of several times over the years, it's a truly lonely existence, even with your brother at your side. After all, the character is nearly 40 years old, and his entire life is wrapped up in his work, his brother, and his car. He's not the kind of person that you truly believe will ever be willing to settle down and live peacefully because he thrives on the chase and having no specific place he considers home other than the driver's seat of his Impala. It's something that's simply his."For somebody who lives kind of a vagabond life and a nomad existence, to have a constant like that, to have something that is his and that is his domain is, I think is really important to the character," Ackles continued. "You'll see a scene in an episode that we're filming, we just finished filming, where Dean says, 'I need to go clear my head. I need to go for a ride in Baby,'' and Sam says, 'Well, let me go with you.'' He says, 'No, no, no, I just need me and Baby and a long stretch of highway.'"While to outsiders who haven't taken the ride with Supernatural over the last 300 episodes, it may seem like Baby is just a car, fans know better. With total respect to Misha Collins, who plays the angel Castiel and has become one of the show's most beloved characters, Baby is the third lead of the series. What would have simply been nearly two tons of steel on most shows is a fully fleshed out character on Supernatural. And according to executive producer Robert Singer, who also directed the 300th episode of the series, she's one of the reasons why, all of these years later, Supernatural is still speeding down the highway and has already been renewed for an impressive 15th season. "It's as much of a character as anyone else in the show," he said. "And yeah, [we] keep waiting for it to break down, but it's still humming."The 300th episode of Supernatural airs Thursday, February 7 at 8 PM ET/PT on The CW.Info from Gamespot.com

I'm always tired of people complaining about the zombie genre being overdone and unoriginal. Sure, there are many zombie movies and TV shows seemingly being all the time. The Walking Dead certainly made audiences very accustomed to its type of zombie drama, while Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland make every other zombie comedy, or “zom-comâ€, play catch-up. But every once in a while we get a zombie film that defies what we know of the genre and dares audiences to call the zombie movie dead. Last year we got Korean period piece Rampant, and Scottish Christmas musical comedy Anna and the Apocalypse. This year it is Australian filmmaker Abe Forsythe who shows us just how little we've actually done with the undead and injects the genre with his own mix of humor, heart, and Taylor Swift songs played on a ukulele.Little Monsters begins by convincing us that its protagonist, Dave (Alexander England), is not a good person. After a brutal breakup, this Aussie slacker and former frontman for death metal band God's Sledgehammer ends up crashing on the couch at his sister Sara's (Nadia Townsend) place, where he spends most of his time playing Left 4 Dead II, masturbating to virtual reality, and being a terrible influence to his 5-year-old nephew Felix (Diesel La Torraca). Dave soon finds a reason to get off the couch after he meets Felix’s kindergarten teacher, the delightful, ukulele-playing, singing-voice-of-an-angel Miss Caroline (Lupita Nyong'o). One look is enough to make Dave sign up to chaperone the kindergarten field trip to a petting zoo/mini-golf course called Pleasant Valley Farm, in an effort to appear as a nice guy--but mostly to try and get into Miss Caroline's pants. While at the Farm, they also run across Teddy McGiggle (Josh Gad), an alcoholic, egocentric, sex-addicted TV host for a children's show who is just a few pitches higher than Krusty the Clown.Little do they know that their fun day of animal petting, tractor riding and mini-golf is going to be interrupted by a literal zombie attack. You see, Pleasant Valley Farm is next to a facility run by the US Army, where they have apparently let loose a few zombies in the past. Forsythe, who wrote and directed the film, wastes no time in following a long tradition of using zombies as a metaphor for humanity's foolishness, in this case, the US military interfering with other countries in one way or another. Unfortunately, the commentary doesn't go deeper than "military grunts are bad," and the zombie make-up stops at "let's make them look pale white."As soon as the zombies start killing the employees and visitors of the petting zoo, Forsythe reveals his plan to make Little Monsters one of the most special zombie movies in years. In a move that is both a love letter to the kindergarten teachers who inspired and nurtured us, and also reminds of Roberto Benigni's Life is Beautiful, most of the film involves Miss Caroline's efforts to keep the children free from trauma and the knowledge that those are real human intestines being eaten. Indeed, she will stop at nothing to shield her kids, and will use every children's game and song available to do her job, from avoiding getting eaten (by playing tag), or avoid seeing something awful ("one, two, three, eyes on me!"), to distract them by doing a conga line so they don't get lost in the middle of a zombie-infected zoo, or playing Taylor Swift on the ukulele (good luck getting “Shake it Off†out of your head).Little Monsters would not work if it wasn't for Forsythe's tight script and an excellent eye for emotion. Whether it's the fear in the adults as they run out of options, the moments of levity as Dave does something stupid or foul-mouthed, or just the adorable Max (Charlie Whitley) getting anxious and angry over the lack of putt-putt golf he was promised, the camera always captures the raw emotion to the point where you are constantly laughing before feeling warm in your heart. The entire cast is game for whatever new silly thing the movie does. La Torraca will warm your heart as often as he breaks it, and he has the best homage to Darth Vader in decades. Josh Gad does a great job returning to his roots and playing the arrogant self-absorbing jerk who doesn't care about anyone but himself, and also is hilarious at it. Gad also makes for a perfect contrast foil to England's Dave, who convincingly sells his journey from mean-spirited jerk to selfless hero. Without a doubt, the standout performance of the film goes to Nyong'o as Miss Caroline. Not only does she excel at playing Caroline's sweet nature and love for her class, but she also doesn't hide the fact that she is a complete badass. She is not afraid to get bloody and mercilessly decapitate zombies left and right, even if she does it with the care of a kindergarten teacher.Zombie-comedies are nothing new, but Little Monsters stands out by not only providing great laughs but being infectiously adorable. Its slapstick humor will be enough to lure audiences in, but its goodwill and heart of gold will leave you with a huge grin on your face hours after you leave the theater.Info from Gamespot.com
