Fortnite has rolled over into Season 8, introducing some major gameplay and map changes. Among them are new pirate-themed skins and a giant volcano to the northeast. One less expected addition is a brand-new island that appears to celebrate the rock band Weezer.Polygon reports that the Creative Mode now houses an island decorated with the iconic Weezer "W" logo. The island also sports a jukebox that only plays Weezer songs. It's reportedly a cross-promotional effort to plug Weezer's two 2019 albums, The Teal Album and The Black Album.Fortnite has partnered with some big brands, like when it cross-promoted Avengers: Infinity War by putting Thanos in the game. It has also partnered with musical acts before, as it recently held a massive in-game concert with DJ Marshmello. The more substantial updates to Fortnite Season 8 come to the map and gameplay. The map now includes a volcano and deadly lava, along with volcanic vents that lift you high into the air. Two new areas surround the volcano: the Mayan-inspired Sunny Steps and the pirate-themed Lazy Lagoon. Of course, the new Battle Pass also includes a load of new skins and other rewards. And imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, because Fortnite has gotten its own ping system like its competitor Apex Legends. If you want to earn all of those nifty new skins, you'll have to complete challenges, so check out our Season 8 challenge guide for details. Destiny 2's next season kicks off on March 5, and with it comes new activities to complete as part of the game's Annual Pass offering. The Joker's Wild DLC that corresponds with Season 6, the Season of the Drifter, is adding a new version of the Gambit competitive mode called Gambit Prime, which ups the stakes on the mode first introduced with the Forsaken expansion.Bungie ran down some of the details in a new blog post and vidoc that showcase some of what players can expect in Season 6. The story of the next season is focused on The Drifter, the mysterious character who runs Gambit, and the giant strange artifact he's been towing behind his ship since he showed up in Destiny 2. According to the vidoc, you might think of Gambit up to now as training for a heist. Gambit Prime is the heist, according to Bungie, and it feeds into another high-level activity called The Reckoning. The Reckoning will be a tiered event that drops special loot, with the idea that you'll be collecting armor and weapons in The Reckoning, taking them back to Gambit Prime to earn better stuff there, and then using that stuff to head back to The Reckoning. The first tier of The Reckoning will be available at the start of the season on March 5, along with Gambit Prime's first new map, a Mars location called New Arcadia. According to Bungie's Destiny 2 roadmap, the second tier of The Reckoning unlocks on March 8, and the third and final tier will be available to players on March 15.Although the vidoc wasn't very specific on how Gambit Prime will differ from regular Gambit, or what exactly The Reckoning will be, one interesting element of The Reckoning is that it's tied to The Nine. That's the strange, shadowy group mostly only hinted at in Destiny lore up until now, primarily through visits from the weekly Exotic weapons vendor and Emissary of the Nine, Xur. Previous info about Season 6 mentioned that Xur will soon offer bounties for players to complete. Those are now called Invitations of the Nine and will pop up on March 15 with The Reckoning's third tier. These are weekly bounties that offer Powerful rewards, but you can only complete one on each character per week, for nine weeks. There aren't many details as to what they'll entail, though. As for new Gambit Prime maps, after New Arcadia, a Titan location called Deep Six will get added on March 12. There will also be three new Gambit weapons to earn in the activity, as well as new armor sets through Gambit Prime and The Reckoning. As the vidoc notes, Bungie took a note from the first DLC release of its new Annual Pass, The Black Armory. When that season started, it came with a Power increase that required players to grind old activities in order to become strong enough to play the newly released content, something nobody playing Destiny 2 was very happy about. That won't happen in Joker's Wild--Bungie says top-level players will be able to jump right into the new Gambit Prime mode. A new set of bounties available from The Drifter, called Power Surge bounties, will also help anybody who's below 640 Power boost themselves up to close to last season's max level within an hour or two, Bungie says. There's one more big event coming in Joker's Wild that Destiny 2 fans are likely to be waiting for: the quest to get Thorn, one of the best-loved (and most-hated) guns in Destiny 1. That starts on March 12, but sounds like it'll be lengthy and include time gates the way previous Exotic weapons quests have. It sounds like that quest will also require you to pick sides between the Drifter and the Guardian-governing group called the Vanguard. Once you make that choice for a specific character, you're stuck with it, apparently. While the Gambit-related content in Season of the Drifter is locked behind the Annual Pass, there are a few new bits of content for those who haven't ponied up for the DLC. Season 6 will see new high-level Pinnacle weapons to earn in the Crucible and from Vanguard strikes. There are also two new events coming: a spring event called The Revelry, which sounds to be similar to the Valentine's Day-themed Crimson Days, holiday-themed event The Dawning, and Halloween-themed Festival of the Lost events. Another weeklong event, called Arc Week, will also be free to all players. Those events will start in April and bleed into May.Info from Gamespot.com

It's rare that first-party Nintendo games ever go on sale--after all, the demand is always high, and the company prides itself on producing higher quality games. Because of that, it's sort of a big deal when Nintendo games do get discounted, and right now, Walmart is answering all of our prayers by dropping the price on select first-party Nintendo games. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Splatoon 2 have had their price slashed by $15, so you can now pick them up for $45 rather than $60. For the same price, Walmart is also offering starter packs for Breath of the Wild and Splatoon 2, which include both the game and a guide. This is a pretty significant price drop, so act fast if you want to take advantage of this deal. Another perk: Walmart offers free two-day shipping, so you won't be waiting long before they arrive. In case you've forgotten, Breath of the Wild was our Game of the Year in 2017 and completely reimagined the Zelda formula in a gorgeous, open-world setting. Super Mario Odyssey offers over a dozen colorful worlds to explore, and surprisingly, it's a fun couch co-op game when one player controls Mario and the other is spinning around as Cappy. Splatoon 2 landed on the Switch in mid-2017 and offers ink-slinging fun in both a single-player campaign and online multiplayer. While not a first-party Nintendo game, Civilization VI is also selling for $45 right now. Civilization VI brought the classic turn-based strategy series to Switch for the first time, where players can build up their own empire by gathering resources and conquering other societies. All four of these games are worth owning and it's unclear how long they'll be on sale, so if you've been on the fence about buying them, now's likely your best chance to snatch them up at a discount.Nintendo Switch games on sale at WalmartCivilization VI -- $45The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild -- $45The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild starter pack -- $45Splatoon 2 -- $45Splatoon 2 starter pack -- $45Super Mario Odyssey -- $45Info from Gamespot.com

Epic has also made some big changes to the game's map; a volcano has erupted out of the island, and there are two new surrounding areas to explore.Of course, a new season also means a new Battle Pass is available to purchase, and it comes with a ton of new cosmetic rewards to unlock. And that's nothing to say of the other tweaks Epic has made to the game. To help catch you up on all the changes, we've rounded up everything that's new in Season 8 of Fortnite below.Fortnite 8.0 Update Patch NotesThe patch notes for Fortnite's 8.0 update are out now, and they detail a ton of changes to the game. Finally, the developer has brought back two LTMs--50v50 and Close Encounters--and vaulted a handful of Season 7's weapons.Fortnite Season 8 Battle Pass And New SkinsAs it does every season, Epic is offering a new Battle Pass for Fortnite. These are divided into two categories: those that are open to everyone, and those reserved for players who've purchased a Battle Pass. The first set of weekly challenges is now available, and they task players to visit the new Pirate Camps and find a giant face in the desert, jungle, and snow, among other things. The mysterious earthquakes that shook up the island toward the end of Season 7 have resulted in a giant volcano emerging toward the northeastern part of the map.The volcano is ringed by a pool of lava that will harm players and cause them to bounce away if they come in contact with it, and there are new Volcanic Vents dotted the island; these expel gusts of air that can send players flying. On top of that, two new areas have also appeared on the map. To the east of the volcano is Sunny Steps, which features Mayan-like pyramids. To the west is Lazy Lagoon, where a huge pirate ship is docked.Info from Gamespot.com

Epic Games has released the next big update for Fortnite, which launches Season 8. The new season adds several gameplay tweaks, new map areas and weapons, and updates the battle royale game with a brand-new Battle Pass. To help you finish its numerous tasks--which offer more than 100 rewards, including new skins--Fortnite's new update now allows you to complete challenges with your friends. To get some help with the Season 8 Battle Pass' daily and weekly challenges, enable Party Assist prior to jumping into a Fortnite match. Once you do, every party member in your group, including you, will be able able to contribute to the overall progress for the selected challenge. However, Party Assist will not rope in players who are added to groups to fill in empty spaces during matchmaking. Party Assist won't work in larger multiplayer modes, such as Team Rumble, either. For further details on Party Assist, check out Season 8's patch notes. This update also kicks off the newest batch of challenges, Week 1 of which are now live. Snowfall challenges from last season have been replaced with Discovery challenges that task you with completing all of the objectives from a single week--a task that should be easier now that you can lean on friends to get things done.As stated before, Season 8 adds numerous other adjustments to Fortnite. Perhaps the most notable are the changes to Fortnite island, which sees the introduction of a new locations, such as a volcano, Sunny Steps, and Lazy Lagoon. The volcano is especially dangerous, as it brings lava to Fortnite. Lava is bouncy but harmful to touch, and it will cause hot air to billow from certain vents which can launch players into the sky. There's been some weapon chances as well. A new Pirate Cannon has been added that allows you to destroy structures from a distance or launch yourself across the map. The Chiller Grenade, on the other hand, has been vaulted as is no longer accessible for the time being. The grenade isn't the only one either. The Sneaky Snowman, X-4 Stormwing, Shopping Cart, and All Terrain Kart have all been vaulted too. Assault rifles are still available, but Epic has adjusted their drop rates so the high-tiered ones won't appear as often.Fortnite is available for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Switch, and mobile devices.Info from Gamespot.com

Season 8 of Fortnite is officially underway, and a lot has changed in the hit battle royale game. There are new areas of the island to explore, as well as a slew of new skins and cosmetics to unlock. But as they say, the more things change, the more they stay the same, and that holds especially true for Fortnite. Just as in seasons past, Epic Games will be rolling out new challenges to complete every week in Season 8. Clear these and you'll be rewarded with Battle Stars, which in turn will level your Battle Pass up and unlock the new Season 8 skins and rewards. On top of that, if you finish all of the challenges from a given week, you'll complete one of Fortnite's Discovery challenges--this season's equivalent of the Snowfall challenges from Season 7. Each Discovery challenge you complete will reward you with a special loading screen, which contains a clue pointing you to a free item hiding somewhere around the island.Week 1's challenges are now live across all platforms, and if you manage to finish all of them, you'll unlock the loading screen pictured above. This one features a crew of pirates aboard the giant shipped docked at Lazy Lagoon, one of the new areas introduced this season. Look closely at the background, however, and you'll be able to spot a Battle Star atop one of the buildings on shore.Lazy Lagoon can be found in the northern portion of the map, to the west of the giant volcano. Glide to the area at the start of a match and locate the building pictured in the loading screen. Make your way to the top of its tower and the Battle Star will appear, just as teased. Collect it and you'll level your Battle Pass up by one tier. We've marked its location on the map below, and you can see exactly where you need to go in the video at the top of this guide. As in previous seasons, there are a couple of caveats you need to keep in mind before you can get this Battle Star. It won't appear on the island unless you've completed enough challenges and unlocked the aforementioned loading screen, so you can't simply go to the right area and expect to collect it unless you've put in all the necessary work.Fortunately, thanks to the new Party Assist feature, which allows all players in a party to contribute progress toward challenges when enabled, it should be easier than ever to complete tasks in Season 8. Epic has even added a ping system copied from Apex Legends. You can read about all of the other changes the studio has made to the game in the full update 8.0 patch notes. Capcom is bringing three classic Resident Evil games--Resident Evil HD Remaster, 0, and 4--to Nintendo Switch on May 20. All three are now available to pre-purchase through the Eshop, but as the digital store reveals, they're a bit pricier than you might expect. All three Resident Evil games are listed on Switch's storefront for $30 / £30 apiece. Not only is that price tag surprising considering each game is several generations old by this point, it is $10 more than the titles cost on other platforms. This certainly isn't the first time the Switch versions of some games have turned out to be more expensive than on other consoles; since the system launched, many publishers have charged slightly more for Switch games to offset the cost of manufacturing cartridges. Such was the case with Rime and LA Noire, among others. What makes this instance feel especially egregious to fans, however, is that Resident Evil HD and Resident Evil 4 aren't receiving physical releases on the system; they'll only be available digitally. Switch owners will be able to purchase a physical copy of Resident Evil 0, and Capcom is selling a Resident Evil Origins Collection that packs in both 0 and the original for $60--although reportedly only 0 will be on a game card, with the other included as a download code.Aside from the Japan-only streaming version of Resident Evil 7, this marks the first time the mainline Resident Evil series is coming to Switch, although Capcom has previously released Resident Evil Revelations and its sequel for the console. Both titles came with exclusive retro-style minigames.Info from Gamespot.com

In one of the biggest contracts in sports history, slugger Bryce Harper today signed a 13-year, $330 million contract with the MLB's Philadelphia Phillies. Harper was previously announced as the cover star of Sony's MLB The Show 19, but because he was a free agent then, the cover was only a placeholder that showed Harper in a nondescript hoodie. In the deal, Harper makes an average of $24.4 million per season. While massive, it doesn't even crack the top ten of the MLB's highest annual salary list.Under his new contract, Harper will make more than $150,000 per game and almost $45,000 every time he steps to the plate, according to numbers crunched by Darren Rovell. The Bryce Breakdown... pic.twitter.com/jfrjpDW4Kh — Darren Rovell (@darrenrovell) February 28, 2019Harper spent his entire professional career as the right fielder for the Washington Nationals before signing with the Phillies today. Techland, the Polish developer behind Dying Light and Call of Juarez franchises, recently announced a round of layoffs, but the studio's ongoing game projects are unaffected. The job losses came as part of Techland's decision to close its Polish distribution and publishing department. Techland was in the business of publishing some third-party boxed games in Poland specifically, but that is coming to an end by the end of 2019.Everyone affected by the layoffs is receiving a severance package that Techland says is "above the [video game] industry and the Polish employment legislation standards." Affected employees will receive help finding new jobs, Techland said, adding that employees affected by the restructuring were made aware of the move for a period of time before it became official.Techland added that its Polish publishing and distribution business has not been a core pillar of Techland's strategy for "a few years," so the wind-down was expected. Those who were laid off worked in "logistics and trade" departments. No game developers were affected. The restructuring at Techland has no influence on Dying Light 2's development or its publishing of God's Trigger, the studio said, adding that the company's overall global structure is unchanged."Techland is in good condition, which is proven by the fact Dying Light sales continue to grow year-on-year," the studio said. "We are growing in terms of AAA open world action games development."13 employees are affected by the restructuring, Techland said. The company employs more than 400 people, while it has more than 50 people currently being actively recruited for roles. Here is Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka's full statement:"After months worth of market analysis we have started the process of shutting down the Polish publishing and distribution department. The process will last until the end of 2019. This only applies to 3rd party boxed goods on the Polish market. For several years physical distribution has not been the core of our strategy, which is to develop the best AAA action open-world games.""These changes have no impact on our global publishing plans and the development of two AAA games we are currently working on, one of them being Dying Light 2. Our company is constantly growing and developing great games. The sales of the original Dying Light are not only not decreasing, but actually continuing to grow year-on-year. Dying Light constantly reaches new audiences and and this makes us happy and shows us we have chosen the right direction. It also motivates us to work hard on making Dying Light 2 our best game yet.""I have personally made sure to take care of the affairs and future careers of the members of our Polish distribution department who will be leaving Techland. Severance packages they will receive are both above the industry and the Polish employment legislation standards. I would like to thank the whole team for the many years of great work together." BioWare has released a new update for Anthem, its multiplayer-focused action RPG. The update addresses tethering issues that occurred when playing with others by increasing the time available to catch up to teammates. The tethering system keeps you from wandering too far away from your team and focused on completing the selected mission at hand. If you don't keep up with your teammates, a message will pop up that informs you that you will be teleported to your allies unless you return to the mission area. After Anthem launched, players complained the system wasn't forgiving enough and didn't provide an adequate amount of time for anyone to catch up to their teammates before being subjected to a loading screen--which also occasionally caused them to lose out on crucial in-game dialogue or cutscenes. The new update also implements changes to Strongholds. In the Swarm Tyrant encounter in the Tyrant Mine Stronghold, you and your squad will no longer be able to reset the battle by exiting to the main menu and rejoining the session. Also, you will no longer be able to reopen chests that have already been looted in Strongholds. For the full patch notes on the update, you can check out BioWare's post on Reddit.BioWare has another update planned for Anthem that is scheduled to launch either sometime tonight or tomorrow, March 1. This next update will affect loot in Anthem. Specifically, uncommon and common weapons and abilities no longer appear from level 30 drop tables, and crafting requirements for masterwork items and embers has decreased. Inscriptions on all masterwork items will also now exclusively apply to the weapon or ability it amplifies. So, for example, a masterwork pistol will only be inscribed with a special ability that amplifies pistols, and not shotguns or assault rifles. This update will only apply to new items that you find or craft however, so all weapons and abilities you've previously collected will not be affected. If you're still on the fence about picking up Anthem, be sure to check out our review of the game. Horizon Zero Dawn launched two years ago today, and it's done quite well in that time. In a blog post celebrating the milestone, Guerrilla Games managing director Hermen Hulst revealed that the game has now sold "well over" 10 million copies worldwide. "The idea that we were able to bring Aloy's journey to so many players is astounding," he said. "We'e been deeply moved by the enormous amount of fan creations you've posted online, as well as the heartfelt letters you've sent sharing your favorite moments from Aloy's journey."This figure likely includes copies of the game purchased outright and those included in PS4 hardware bundles. Horizon Zero Dawn was something new for Guerrilla, which up until that point had been best known for its Killzone shooter series. Given the commercial success of Horizon Zero Dawn, a sequel would seemingly make sense for business reasons. No announcements have been made, but Hulst previously teased that Aloy might have more stories to tell and secrets to uncover beyond the main game and its Frozen Wilds expansion. "She's really uncovered some of the main mysteries in the world, but how do you feel when you finish the story? Are there questions that come up that you want to answer for Aloy?" Hulst told GamesRadar. It was not difficult for us to build the Frozen Wilds and tell that story through Aloy. The environments and the world that we've put together easily raise more questions, so it feels pretty rich to us, but that's all I can say about that for now."Here at GameSpot, we're very excited for the possibilities of what a Horizon Zero Dawn 2 could deliver if Guerrilla decides to make it.Also in the blog post, Hulst shared some "peculiar details" about the developer of Horizon Zero Dawn. Here are some of the highlights:They used the model for Killzone 3's Jammer as a stand-in for Aloy in the game's early stages because her character model was still being developed.Guerrilla's Jochen Willemensen got the flu during development. While recovering at home he saw a movie starring Hannah Hoekstra, and used her face as a model for Aloy's.Baby Aloy was voiced by an actual baby. Guerrilla's music supervisor Lucas van Tol captured his daughter's voice and sounds by setting up a recording area near her playpen.Tol researched 750 bird sounds for the game and only 30 made the cut.Info from Gamespot.com
