The first Nintendo Direct of 2019 is officially underway. The live stream started today, February 13, at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 10 PM GMT (9 AM AET on February 14), and it'll provide new details on a number of games coming to Nintendo Switch this year, including "new details" on Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the first proper Switch entry in the long-running strategy RPG series. Just don't get up your hopes for any Metroid news. You can watch the stream live below; so far we've gotten news on Super Mario Maker 2, a new Box Boy game, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. We also got a new release date for Three Houses, word on a brand-new Tetris game, and more. Stay tuned for all the rest. The broadcast is estimated to run for approximately 35 minutes, suggesting there will a ton of news and announcements coming out of it. As usual, Nintendo will host streams of the broadcast on its official website and Twitch channels. You can also tune in right here on GameSpot and follow along with the Direct using the YouTube embed below. It makes sense for Fire Emblem to feature prominently, as very little has been shared about Three Houses prior to now. Despite that, it's set for release sometime this spring, so we might get a release date in addition to a better understanding of how it plays. The reveal at E3 last year showed us it features the familiar grid-based gameplay of previous entries, but with some notable changes, such as armies battling each other in combat and a 3D world for players to explore.Besides that, Nintendo hasn't revealed what games will be featured during today's Direct, but we already know of a few that are lined up for this year, including the adorable platformer Yoshi's Crafted World, which launches on March 29. Luigi's Mansion 3, Daemon X Machina, and Switch installments of Animal Crossing and Pokemon have also been announced for this year, although none of those have received release dates yet.One game we can safely assume won't be featured during today's presentation, however, is Metroid Prime 4. Last month, Nintendo announced that it was effectively restarting development on the game--this time with original developer Retro Studios at the helm--as it wasn't coming together to the company's liking."Although this is very regrettable we must let you know that the current development progress has not reached the standards we seek in a sequel to Metroid Prime series," senior managing executive officer Shinya Takahashi said in a video message. "Nintendo always strives for the highest quality in our games and in our development phase, we challenge ourselves and confront whether the game is living up to that quality on a daily basis."From this perspective, we have determined that the current development status of [Metroid Prime 4] is very challenged, and we had to make a difficult decision as a development team. We have decided to re-examine the development structure and change it."While Metroid Prime 4 is likely a long way off, there are plenty of Switch games on the horizon this year. You can get a look at the biggest ones in our gallery of Nintendo exclusives coming in 2019.Info from Gamespot.com

The recently revealed Avengers: Endgame costumes for the core team has fans clamoring--and no, it's not because of Natasha's stylishly grown out dye job or Cap's classic chain mail look making an appearance. Their concerns are fixated on the inexplicable inclusion of not Bruce Banner, but The Hulk in the lineup after he infamously refused to make an appearance throughout Avengers: Infinity War.But it's not just the fact that Hulk is most definitely his mean, green self in the promo image--it's that he looks a little different from the last time we saw him. And that might actually be a big clue as to where both he and Banner are headed in the final chapter of this installment of the MCU.Brace yourselves, this one is a little weird. As fans have pointed out, the new Hulk image not only features Hulk sporting a very fashionable bodysuit, it also (apparently) features a very slightly remodeled face. This, of course, wouldn't be the first time the Hulk CGI has gone through some major upgrades--his look has changed in just about every movie he's been in--but this one seems a bit more than just technology leaping forward. This particular render seems to be trying to blend together the look of actor Mark Ruffalo's face with the Hulk we all know and love. This, coupled with the strange back-and-forth between the two halves of the character since Thor: Ragnarok has led fans to believe that we might be seeing the live-action debut of the character known as Professor Hulk.Despite the rather ridiculous name, Professor Hulk isn't just a version of Hulk who went back to school and got a degree. He's actually a Hulk incarnation that blends both Bruce and Hulk together--sort of. Introduced back in 1991, Professor Hulk was originally a "merged Hulk" that combined the extreme-90s Grey and Savage Hulks--don't worry too much about the finer points differentiating them--with Doctor Banner himself. The Merged Hulk exhibited traits and personality features of all its combined parts and was later developed further into a personality called The Professor. The biggest and most important takeaway when dealing with The Professor is understanding that he was an incarnation of Hulk that exhibited Bruce's intelligence and personality. Normally, as we've seen exhibited really well in the MCU, Banner and Hulk are two completely separate consciousnesses--they're even able to "argue" with one another over who gets to be dominant in their shared body at any given moment. Professor Hulk has no such issue. As a true mixture of both halves of the Hulk/Banner equation, there is no struggle for dominance or control, just a perfect balancing act between the two of them. Strangely, in the comics, this also meant that Professor Hulk was the largest of the Hulks running around for a while, but the least powerful. Do with that information what you will. So, what does this mean for the MCU if an incarnation of the good Professor is headed our way? Well, it would certainly be a fitting conclusion to the "trilogy" teased by Mark Ruffalo spanning Thor: Ragnarok, Infinity War, and Endgame--and a fitting, if slightly tragic, finale to Bruce Banner's tenure in the shared universe. As a character driven largely by the push-pull of the duality that consumes his life, finding a balance would be a bittersweet compromise, leaving Bruce changed, but finally free of his "curse," and ideally, Hulk free of his fear.Of course, if that does happen, there would most likely be an issue with finding out exactly where on Earth a giant green half-monster man could fit in--but maybe Earth isn't where Hulk and Banner will want to stay when the dust settles and Thanos is defeated. After all, both halves of the equation have plenty of experience out in the cosmos by now, and assuming the Thanos fight doesn't wind up fatal, it wouldn't be too far a stretch to picture him heading back to space, even if that means saying more than a few goodbyes. The "Prototype Missions" demo will only be available for a limited time, and Nintendo is inviting feedback with an online survey for those who try it out. It will consist of four missions showing off the basic controls, followed by a boss battle. It's still aimed for a Summer 2019 release.Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker updateCaptain Toad: Treasure Tracker is getting a pair of updates, both of which let you experience some fresh treasure tracking starting today. First, a free update available today will make all courses playable in co-op mode, so you can grab your Toadette buddy and go exploring. The second update will add a "Special Episode," and won't be fully available for a month. The new episode adds five new courses and 18 challenges. A digital bundle is available on the eShop today, though, and buying that will gain you access to the first of the new courses immediately.Info from Gamespot.com

Pokemon Go's next Community Day is just around the corner. Niantic is hosting this month's event on Saturday, February 16, and like usual, it'll offer players around the world a chance to capture rare Pokemon and earn some generous in-game bonuses. Each Community Day typically runs for only three hours, but the specifics of these events vary month by month. To help you prepare, we've rounded up all of the most important details about February 2019's Community Day below, from the time it starts in each region to what bonuses you'll be able to earn. What Is The Featured Pokemon?Niantic typically designates one "featured" Pokemon for each Community Day. Not only will this monster spawn much more frequently than it normally does throughout the event, but players will also have a chance of finding its Shiny form. The Pokemon will be able to learn a special, otherwise unattainable move if it evolves by the end of the event. For February's Community Day, the featured Pokemon is Swinub, a Ground/Ice-type first introduced in Gold and Silver. For the duration of the event, Swinub will be much easier to find in the wild, and if players manage to evolve it into its final form, Mamoswine, up to an hour after the Community Day ends, it will know the Rock-type attack Ancient Power. What Are Sinnoh Stones?Swinub was one of several Pokemon to receive a new evolved form in the series' fourth-generation titles, Diamond and Pearl. Niantic has been gradually introducing these Gen 4 evolutions in Go over the past several weeks, but they're obtained a little differently than most others. Namely, they can only be triggered using a new evolutionary item called Sinnoh Stones.Sinnoh Stones can be obtained a few different ways in Go, but the most common is by participating in PvP Trainer Battles. To make it easier to get a Mamoswine, Niantic is giving players a chance to earn up to five Sinnoh Stones from Trainer Battles during this month's Community Day, on top of an additional five that can be earned from practice battles against Team Leaders. What Time Does It Start?Unlike many of Pokemon Go's other real-world events, Community Days aren't hosted at a specific location but rather during a designated window of time, which means you'll be able to participate in the event from any local park or other gathering place. The time it begins varies depending on what part of the world you live in, but regardless of your region, the Community Day will only run for three hours. You can find the full schedule for each region below. The Americas and Greenland11 AM - 2 PM PT2 PM - 5 PM ETEurope, Middle East, and Africa10 AM - 1 PM UTCAsia-Pacific12 PM - 3 PM JST (February 17)What Other Bonuses Are There? On top of increased Pokemon spawns, Niantic also typically offers a couple of other bonuses during each Community Day. For this month's event, players will receive triple the usual amount of Stardust for capturing Pokemon. Additionally, any Lure modules you use will remain active for three hours, rather than their standard 30 minutes.Info from Gamespot.com

Nintendo has announced Super Mario Maker 2 for Nintendo Switch. The sequel made its debut as part of today's Nintendo Direct event (you can see all the news from the Nintendo Direct here), during which a June 2019 release date was also confirmed. One of the big new additions for the second game is the ability to create slopes--something which was noticeably absent from both the original Wii U title and the 3DS version.Angled surfaces for Mario to hop, skip, and jump along might not sound like a big deal, but its something that fans have been very vocal about wanting, and now it's finally here. It'll be interesting to see what kind of devious levels players come up with to make use of this new terrain option. The other big new feature for Super Mario Maker 2 is its inclusion of Super Mario 3D World assets to craft custom levels, which is nice way to represents the modern-era of Mario titles. The first Super Mario Maker was released for Wii U in 2015 and earned a 9/10 from GameSpot. In his review, Justin Haywald described it as "a game of joyous creation and fun surprises."He continued: "The first time I discovered that not only could I make a giant, flame-spewing piranha plant, but I could also make it fly, I cackled with horrible glee at the possibilities. And for the first time in a creation-focused experience, I look forward to returning again and again for more than just the amazing levels I know other people will create. I want to keep making my own levels better. The game won't necessarily turn you into the next Shigeru Miyamoto, but you can almost feel a little bit of that magic rubbing off every time you upload a new creation." Info from Gamespot.com

While Netflix's Marvel shows seem to be coming to an end--only two of the six series are left standing--that doesn't mean the streaming service is getting out of the superhero game. In Umbrella Academy, the new original series based on comics by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, the street-level crime fighting has been replaced with time travel, the threat of global destruction, and some very entertaining dance sequences.Umbrella Academy follows a highly-dysfunctional "family" of people with a variety of powers--and the one "sibling" that seemingly has nothing special about her--as they're reunited following the death of their father-figure. That's just the kickoff point for the series, though. Whether it's time assassins from the future, a talking chimpanzee in a suit, or an old man stuck in the body of a teenager, Umbrella Academy is a comic book and TV series that embraces the weirdness of its premise and isn't afraid to look silly to tell its story. That said, comic book purists need to brace themselves. When you sit down to watch Umbrella Academy when it premieres on Netflix, you're going to notice some big changes from the source material. The first season roughly follows the first volume of comics, otherwise known as the "Apocalypse Suite" story. As executive producer and showrunner Steve Blackman told GameSpot, though, it would have been impossible to simply let the show play out the same as the comic."I wanted to respect what Gerard and Gabriel had done," he explained. "I didn't want to not feel that the fans would look at this and say, 'This is nothing I've ever seen.' At the same time, my goal was also to broaden it out to a whole new group of people who had not read the [graphic] novel yet. So, it was sort of looking at things... finding creative things that could make you feel that you're in a moment that you've seen before but then just expand on it as well as bring in sometimes new content that just had to fill [10 hours]."To do that, not only were new elements added, but story elements and characters from other Umbrella Academy stories were given more time to shine--including Hazel (Cameron Briton) and Cha-Cha (Mary J. Blige) in one of the season's best subplots. Beyond that, fans will get to see more development and interaction between the Hargreeves "family," which is a dynamic at the show's core.If new things frighten you, Blackman doesn't want you to worry. While there have been some alterations made while adapting the comic, the heart of the show remains the same. "I'm hoping that the graphic novel fans will feel respected, that the material was respected and that the characters, you know, even though we made changes along the way," he says. And it's that respect for the comics that sold Way on collaborating with Blackman on Umbrella Academy and essentially handing the showrunner control over how they're portrayed on TV. "It is about meeting and trusting talented people and I met Steve. I saw he had a vision, and I trusted that vision," he explained. "I said, 'Go for it.' And I'll do my thing on the book, and we'll have this weird little symbiotic relationship where I'm generating these crazy ideas and then you're taking them and expanding them or doing anything with them. So it's a cool relationship."Based on the trailers alone, that cool relationship has created something special and unlike just about any other comic book show you'll find on TV. Umbrella Academy premieres on Netflix on February 15.Info from Gamespot.com

Although the latest Nintendo Direct was filled with big news, upcoming Switch title Fire Emblem: Three Houses was the centerpiece, with an extended trailer showing off tons of narrative details about the upcoming game. We also saw combat in action and learned more about how characters will form bonds. In Three Houses, three ruling powers share the land in relative harmony. You--either a male or female character--are a mercenary under your father Jeralt's command, and you receive an offer to teach at the Officer's Academy. The Academy is composed of the titular three houses--the Black Eagles, Blue Lions, or Golden Deer--and train them in particular skills to help you in battle. You're in charge of building a lesson plan of sorts that will help them learn and grow. Your students can also interact and form bonds at the academy, which will influence their actions on the battlefield. Here's how a Nintendo press release sums things up: "The Black Eagles. The Blue Lions. The Golden Deer. Three noble houses that are part of the Officer's Academy, an elite facility that trains students in the ways of weapons, magic and special skills. As a professor, the player must choose one of these houses to lead its students in grid-based battles with life-or-death stakes. Each house is comprised of many different students to meet and train, each with her or his own personality and skills. These students can interact with each other at the academy, strengthening their bonds and supporting each other on the battlefield."Fire Emblem: Three Houses was originally scheduled for launch this spring but will now release for Nintendo Switch on July 26. The presentation also included a rundown of the game's special edition. Epic Games has been sued by a number of people, including Backpack Kid, rapper 2 Milly, and Carlton from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, over claims that the studio stole their dance moves to use in Fortnite. Now, Epic Games has released a memorandum in which it seeks to have at least one of the lawsuits dismissed on the grounds that "no one can own a dance step."A document filed in California court this week seeks to have rapper Terrence "2 Milly" Ferguson's lawsuit tossed out. It states that Ferguson's claims are "fundamentally at odds with free speech principles." The letter states, "Copyright law is clear that individual dance steps and simple dance routines are not protected by copyright." Epic asserts that such dance moves are actually "building blocks of free expression," and Epic says they are in the public domain.Epic also said in its note that the "Swipe It" dance emote, which is the one in question, varies from the move that 2 Milly made popular. One example is that 2 Milly's dance move, which is referred to as "the Dance Step" in the letter, features the torso, shoulders, and head face forward while the ribs move side to side. For the Swipe It emote, the torso, shoulders, and head turn to the side while the ribs remain in place. Additionally, 2 Milly's actual dance move is faster than Swipe It. Put shortly, "the works simply are not substantially similar," Epic said. The entire document is a doozy; it's filled with the kind of language and examples that make your head spin. You can read the full document here; as uploaded by The Hollywood Reporter. It's not immediately clear if Epic has filed similar measures in response to the lawsuits from Backpack Kid and Alfonso Ribeiro, but keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest. The lawsuits seemingly had holes from the beginning. In the case of Alfonso Ribeiro's lawsuit, it was discovered that Ribeiro himself admitted to borrowing the dance from someone else.In other Fortnite news, the game's new 7.40 update has been delayed; it's now coming on Valentine's Day.Fortnite recently picked up a new competitor, as the battle royale game Apex Legends from Respawn and Electronic Arts is off to a wildly fast start. As of this writing, Apex Legends has more viewers than Fortnite and all other games by a large margin today on Twitch.Info from Gamespot.com

During a Nintendo Direct packed with big Switch news, the company also revealed that Toby Fox's Deltarune will be coming to the handheld and console hybrid. Chapter 1 of the Undertale follow-up will be available for free, while later chapters--which are "currently in development"--will not. Deltarune: Chapter 1 is getting its port much more quickly; it first released late last year on PC to a very excited Undertale fanbase.
