Games tech company Improbable has announced it is venturing into games development with two newly created studios in London and Edmonton, the latter of which is being headed up by former BioWare veteran Aaryn Flynn. In a press release, the company says the studios are working on "online multiplayer games" powered by its SpatialOS platform.Flynn worked at BioWare for 11 years and served as the company's general manager from 2015-2017. During his tenure there, he oversaw the development of the Mass Effect and Dragon Age franchises, as well as Star Wars: The Old Republic. He joined Improbable as the general manager of its North American games business in September 2018."I was interested in making a game using SpatialOS from the very first time I spoke to Improbable," Flynn said. "Building tools and content has been a great way for our Edmonton team to master SpatialOS, but a full game was always an opportunity myself and others had in mind as the Edmonton studio took shape. Now, after a lot of great hires and great progress, we're going to focus on creating that game using Unreal Engine 4 and building on SpatialOS' next-generation online games platform."Improbable's London studio, meanwhile, is being led by John Wasilczyk, who previously worked at EA DICE and Fortnite developer Epic Games. The company says it plans to further grow these studios and found additional ones in other locations.Improbable will discuss its SpatialOS platform and its move into game development at this year's Game Developers Conference, which takes place from March 18-22. The company will also host two panels at the conference, which will feature Flynn and Josh Holmes, who previously worked on the Def Jam Vendetta and Halo series.Info from Gamespot.com

(Content warning: sexual abuse.)The Simpsons executive team has decided to pull an episode that featured deceased pop star Michael Jackson as a guest voice, following renewed allegations of abuse. Creator Matt Groening, executive producer James L. Brooks, and showrunner Al Jean said they reached the decision together after viewing the HBO documentary Leaving Neverland."It feels clearly the only choice to make," Brooks told The Wall Street Journal. "The guys I work with--where we spend our lives arguing over jokes--were of one mind on this."The 1991 episode "Stark Raving Dad" was about Homer being committed to a mental institution, where he met a soft-spoken patient who believes he is Michael Jackson, who at the time was a famous musician. Homer didn't know the pop music reference, but brought the man home with him. Word spread around town that Jackson was visiting, leading to a backlash against the Simpson family when he turned out to be an imposter. The man then helped Bart write a song for his sister Lisa's birthday.Jackson was credited under the name "John Jay Smith" to obscure his involvement in the episode. He spoke his own lines, but used a voice double for the singing parts.Leaving Neverland prominently features testimony from Wade Robson and James Safechuck. Both allege that when they were boys, Jackson groomed the boys for sexual abuse and instructed them to keep silent about these experiences. The documentary has led to a new conversations about Jackson's legacy, and some radio stations have pulled his songs from their rotation.Info from Gamespot.com

In Devil May Cry 5, you'll need to up your skills in combat to see some of the game's most exciting and satisfying moments. Just like in previous games in the series, Capcom's action game features some hidden secrets to uncover, and they'll require players to put their skills to the test in order to unlock them. Though in a , which feature post-credits easter eggs at game's end, Devil May Cry 5's secret ending can be seen during the opening mission of the game.In the Prologue, you'll play as Nero--sans his iconic Devil Bringer. As it's revealed in the first act of the game, his demonic arm was torn off by a mysterious figure, and he's been hellbent on exacting revenge ever since. In this state, the scrappy protagonist is as well-equipped compared to his outing in DMC4, which makes his first major encounter with the all-powerful Urizen a major battle to overcome. This first boss fight is intended to show how powerful this big bad is, and that Nero will need more power to stand a chance. Having said that, it's actually possible to defeat Urizen in this battle--ending the threat before it even begins to have a major impact.First off, I'd like to stress that unless you're a highly skilled DMC player that wants to show off, you're much better off saving this particular fight for when you've successfully cleared through the game at least once. It's not worth doing multiple attempts on this missing right the beginning. Since you're free to replay every mission in the game at any time, bringing all of your upgrades and new skills to old missions, it will make for a much more 'fair' fight if you come in prepared. As the prologue mission clearly illustrates, Nero is outmatched. But even when you revist this mission more prepared, you're still in for a tough fight. If you want to see this ending, it's recommended you try this fight on the Devil Hunter difficulty. The key to winning this fight is to keep moving and to avoid all of Urizen's attacks. While this seems simple and a pretty obvious tip, the new demon king is extremely effective at keeping you at a distance and overwhelming you with attacks--all of which deal heavy damage. You're essentially fighting a near end-game boss right at the beginning, and he'll pull out all the stops to take you down, and all without getting up from his chair. In order to strike Urizen directly, you'll need to destroy the crystal that protects him. This crystal not only shields him from damage, but it will also use attacks of its own. Generally speaking, you'll want to stay as close as possible to him and keep attacking the crystal until it shatters. This will leave Urizen vulnerable for a limited time, allowing you to get some hits in. He'll regain his posture soon after and conjure up another crystal--repeating the process again. If you're able to fend off Urizen's attacks and go in for the critical blows when he's vulnerable, then you'll be treated to a somewhat uneventful if a bit humorous ending celebrating your feat. You'll also be treated to an achievement/trophy for clearing the tough battle. Though it may not seem worth the effort, it is a particularly interesting fight to brute force your way through, and it'll be a nice feather in your cap. With that said, a real challenge will be clearing this battle on Dante Must Die mode, DMC5's hardest difficulty. For more on Devil May Cry 5, including the locations of all the Secret Missions and how to beat them, and along with our full review of the game.Info from Gamespot.com

The streaming giant, Netflix, is no stranger to anime. It's also no stranger to live-action anime adaptations either. Just last year, the California-based company released a live-action version of Tite Kubo's Bleach. Two years ago, Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist received the same treatment. And in August 2017, the company unleashed Ryuk with a live-action adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba's Death Note. It seems Eiichiro Oda's One Piece is next in line to join Netflix's live-action ranks.According to a Netflix listing, One Piece is making its way to the platform. There's no information about the series though. No casting announcements. No release date. There isn't even a title card for the series. There's only a description that sounds like a cut-and-paste of One Piece's synopsis:"Monkey D. Luffy sets sail with his trusty crew to find the One Piece treasure and become the ultimate Pirate King! Based on the manga by Eiichiro Oda."That's it. That's all the information available about the upcoming Netflix live-action One Piece adaptation. Searching "One Piece" on the platform pulls up nothing--not even the anime, which can be found on Crunchyroll and Hulu for those looking to get caught up with Luffy and friends. One Piece started as a manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since 1997. 22 years later, the manga's still going with 92 volumes currently released. In addition to a manga, the series was adapted into an anime and picked up by Funimation in 1999, running 875 episodes. Like the manga, the anime's still going. There have also been several films released at the turn of the century, including 2000's One Piece: The Movie, 2009's One Piece: Strong World, 2016's One Piece Film: Gold, and more. There are also several games released based on the popular anime, including 2001's One Piece: Grand Battle, 2010's One Piece: Gigant Battle, One Piece Thousand Storm, and others. The latest game in the One Piece franchise, One Piece: World Seeker, is scheduled to set sail on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on March 15, 2019. One Piece: Stampede, a forthcoming animated film based on the franchise, is slated to launch on August 9, 2019. Info from Gamespot.com

Larian Studios shared no more information other than that, but promises additional details will be available "soon." As stated before, the rest of the update deals with bug fixes. In our Divinity: Original Sin II review, Brett Todd wrote, "From lonely farmhouses through pitched battles with gods in far-flung dimensions, Divinity: Original Sin II is one of the most captivating role-playing games ever made in both its original and Definitive incarnations, with the latter proving that even the most complicated role-players can be ported successfully to gamepad-limited consoles. This immaculately conceived and emotion-wrought fantasy world, topped by brilliant tactical combat, make it one of the finest games of recent years, and it remains an instant classic in the pantheon of RPG greats."Info from Gamespot.com

Sony has revealed the list of last month's best-selling PS4 games on PSN. February was packed with high-profile releases, from Far Cry: New Dawn to Metro Exodus, but it was BioWare's cooperative RPG/shooter, Anthem, that took the top spot in both North America and Europe.Despite its rocky launch, Anthem has similarly been performing well at retail, at least in the UK. It debuted at No. 1 in the region and managed to hold on to that position for the week ending March 2.Taking the runner-up spot in North America was Bandai Namco's crossover fighting game, Jump Force. Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto V continues to defy the specter of age, coming in at No. 2 in Europe and rounding out the top three in North America.February also saw the surprise release of Apex Legends, the new battle royale game from Titanfall developer Respawn, and it is similarly off to a strong start, dethroning the genre's reigning champion, Fortnite, on the Free-to-Play chart. Epic's battle royale game dropped to No. 3 last month, while another battle royale game, Realm Royale, took No. 2.You can see PSN's top 10 best-selling PS4 games for February below. Remember Blockbuster? The retail chain where you could rent movies and video games? It went bankrupt in 2013 and closed all of its U.S. stores and 72 other UK stores the following year. After gutting the business nearly five years ago, only one blue-and-yellow store is left standing on the entire planet Earth. As CNN reports, the Bend, Oregon Blockbuster is the last one left after the only other store--located in Morley, Australia--announced it'll close its doors on March 31. According to a picture posted to the official Blockbuster Morley Facebook account, the last day of renting was March 7, with a huge sale happening on March 8. "We wish to thank all of our customers, past and present, for all your support and friendship," the post reads.Oregan Blockbuster's General Manager, Sandi Harding, expressed her unflinching sadness at the news. "We all have a kinship with the other Blockbusters," Harding said. She is excited that her store's the only one remaining, though. There's got to be some level of prestige that comes with being the only Blockbuster left on the planet. As such, Harding's store is selling hats and shirts in celebration of being the last store.Because of competition like streamlined rental services Gamefly and Redbox, as well as streaming platforms such as Hulu and Netflix, Blockbuster found itself in the sinkhole during the early 2010s, with the dreadful announcement that all U.S. stores would be closing coming in November 2013. The following year, nearly all Blockbuster's closed, with the remaining few in Alaska--famously referenced on John Oliver's Last Week Tonight--closing in 2018. (Blockbuster is also featured in the newly released Captain Marvel, which is set in the '90s. )Open for more than 20 years, the Oregon Bend location does offer newer movie releases, but Harding says classics and older titles are its "bread and butter." She believes that, while the news is devastating, it might be good for business. "You can go to Redbox and you can get the new titles, but they don't have the older ones. Netflix and Amazon don't have everything, either.Info from Gamespot.com

Captain Marvel is now in theaters, providing the Marvel Cinematic Universe its first female lead superhero and setting the stage for Avengers: Endgame. Carol Danvers' debut slips comfortably into 10 years of world-building and continuity, and that leaves a lot to unpack. Here's everything on the powerful new addition to the MCU--and be sure to keep checking back, as we'll expand this with all of our Captain Marvel coverage in the coming days and weeks.Captain Marvel ReviewsFirst and foremost, you might just be wondering if the movie itself is any good. For that we have our Captain Marvel review. Critic Michael Rougeau concluded that while the movie is enjoyable, it's hampered by its placement sandwiched between two halves of the Thanos story."In the MCU, timing is everything. Black Panther appearing just before Infinity War last year whetted fans' appetites for more Wakanda, making the Avengers' arrival there a cheer-worthy moment. Seeing Ant-Man and the Wasp a few months later provided a pleasant palette cleanser to wash the taste of misery from our mouths. Now, with mere weeks to go before the current phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe concludes with Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel--despite being a good movie in its own right--feels like a forced cul-de-sac we have to drive impatiently around to get where we really want to go."For a wider view of reviews from around the industry, check out our review roundup. Then you can go watch the movie in confidence. We'll wait.Back from the movie? Good. The End-Credits ScenesOf course, it wouldn't be a Marvel movie without at least one post-credits scene. Captain Marvel comes with two, so you'll want to stick around to see them both. And if you did watch each of the scenes and you're left wondering just what it all means for the future of the MCU, check out our detailed breakdown of the Captain Marvel post-credits and endings.Easter EggsAs you'd expect from a movie set in the '90s, Captain Marvel is packed with Easter eggs and references. These include not just those to things like Blockbuster and music of the era, but also to various things from the MCU that you might not spot on an initial viewing.Nick Fury's History Gets Patched UpThrough the magic of Marvel's de-aging CG, Nick Fury gets a facelift for the prequel film Captain Marvel. But it also reveals quite a bit about his history--including how he gets his eyepatch--as well as that of the Earth's mightiest heroes. Read up on all the new details we learned about Nick Fury and the Avengers from Captain Marvel.Skrulls in the MCUNow that you've seen the film, you may be curious for a little background on its comic inspirations. The Captain Marvel of the MCU takes some significant departures from main Marvel continuity. For example, this movie brings in one of the biggest threats in all of Marvel continuity, the Skrulls. If you're a fan of the comics or just starting to brush up on your Skrull history, though, you may be surprised at how different the Skrulls presented in the MCU actually are. Make sure you've seen the movie before exposing yourself to spoilers, mind.Goose the Cat is a StarSimilarly, Captain Marvel's pet cat Goose is based on the comic book character Chewie, a similar feline friend. But Chewie is no ordinary cat. Read up on the history of Chewie in the comics and how's he's similar and not-so-similar to Goose.Tracking the TesseractWe've been seeing the Tesseract artifact slowly weave its way through Marvel continuity for years, and Captain Marvel adds a new wrinkle to it. You can read up on the entire journey of this mystical artifact and how it comes into play once again in Captain Marvel.Stan Lee's CameoCaptain Marvel features a particularly nice message to the late Stan Lee, who passed away last year. The movie itself includes a Stan Lee cameo, and as such we've updated our ranking of the best ones he's done so far. As Marvel's Kevin Feige has confirmed, this won't be the last time we see him in a Marvel film.Do You Need To See Captain Marvel Before Endgame? If you aren't someone who likes going to the movies and are wondering how essential Captain Marvel is, we've got some thoughts on if you need to see it before Avengers: Endgame. Of course, we can't be certain until that movie is released, as it's anyone's guess as to what elements of Captain Marvel it will draw on.Info from Gamespot.com

From Software has taken an interest in live service games--specifically those that exist in the battle royale genre. Although the developer wants to remain focused on single-player games for now--such as the upcoming Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice--From Software isn't discounting the possibility of making a multiplayer-focused title one day."There's always the possibility," From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki said in an interview with The Telegraph. "These games are definitely fun. And we're interested in the patterns they are taking. If we did it, it might be a bit different! But we're definitely interested and there's definitely that possibility in the future. We'd love to take a crack at them some day."Miyazaki added that he hopes video games don't become entirely multiplayer-focused live service titles. "We do need this diversity in the industry," Miyazaki sad. "Regardless of what From Software is doing, we need people making battle royale games and live services and we need people making single-player focussed experiences. We feel that this diversity is what will keep everyone going."The From Software president doesn't seem worried with single-player games fading into obscurity, though. "Single-player action games don't feel too rare in the current climate," he said. "While Devil May Cry 5 has some online elements, it's coming out two weeks before our game. And that's a very single-player focussed experience. We've also had God of War and Spider-Man."The closest From Software has ever come to creating a battle royale game is the PvP Hollow Arena included in the Ashes of Ariandel DLC for Dark Souls III. In Hollow Arena's Brawl mode, you can engage in six-player free-for-alls. However, unlike a traditional battle royale, you can respawn in Brawl mode and first place is earned by scoring the most kills, not outlasting the competition. So, to create an actual battle royale game would be a massive departure for From Software. That said, if Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice proves anything, it's that From Software is both willing and able to move away from the style of game it popularized with its Soulsborne titles.Info from Gamespot.com

The Legendary Bounty Hunter Dante has a massive arsenal of weapons in Devil May Cry 5. Along with his old favorites including Rebellion and his twin handguns, he'll also find new armaments including a demonic hat that uses red orbs as ammunition, and a powerful motorcycle that transforms into massive chainsaw swords. However, there's one weapon in the game that can be very easy to miss, opening up access to a set of firearms, that when combined together, form one of the game's most powerful guns. For some background, one of the weapons that Dante will acquire later in the game (and seen in the many trailers) is the Kalina Ann II--a heavily modified rocket launcher that was specially built for the bounty hunter Lady. The original Kalina Ann was also a weapon that Dante could use in Devil May Cry 3. The second version of the weapon was intended as a replacement, after the original was lost in a battle. The souped up Kalina Ann II can fire off powerful missiles and mini-rockets, causing serious damage to all surrounding enemies. However, if you didn't find it already, there's a way to track down and acquire the original Kalina Ann in one of the earlier missions. In Mission 11, you'll control Dante has he explores a ruined town. During the mid-point of the level, you'll come to a massive tower that's tangled in demonic tendrils. Attacking the first blood sac will kill the first set of tendrils, causing the building to sink. Below the platform are two more blood sacs. Though you can destroy the one closest to the exit to proceed with the level, there's another one near the tower that will cause it to sink further. Destroying this particular sac will also open up access to the Secret Mission in the area. You can also find an opening in the section below the floor that leads to a room. Enter the room and approach the broken to table to find an item. Picking it up will grant Dante the original Kalina Ann rocket launcher. If you have both rocket launchers in your possession, Dante will combine them together to form the Double Kaliana Ann firearm. Essentially wielding both rocket launchers in tandem, switching off between shots, the high-powered weapon is the Devil Hunter's most powerful firearm. In addition to firing off rockets with great speed and power, Dante can merge both weapons together to open up new moves, including a powerful laser attack. In Gunslinger style, the Double Kalina Ann's move-set and power increase further, adding a variety of other options in a fight. It's certainly a lot of firepower, but if you find that two rocket launchers are simply too much to handle, you can adjust your loadout to use only one--choosing either the original Kalina Ann or its upgrade. Still, the Double Kalian Ann is a surprisingly versatile weapon, offering quick, crowd-clearing moves, and also powerful single-enemy attacks at your fingertips. For more on Capcom's Devil May Cry 5, including the location of all the Secret Missions and how to find the hidden ending, but sure to check out our continuing coverage of the game. After months of silence, developer Void Interactive has released a lengthy gameplay trailer for its upcoming Rainbow Six-like shooter, Ready or Not. The video, which you can watch above, provides our first extended look at the gameplay, which is strongly reminiscent of the SWAT series.Ready or Not is billed as a "realistic tactical shooter" that's "set against the backdrop of political and economic instability in the United States." The game casts players in the role of Judge, a SWAT solider "tasked with defusing tense, hostile situations in a morally bankrupt city."Void Interactive had previously confirmed that Ready or Not will feature both competitive and cooperative modes, as well as a single-player mode. In the latter, the developer says players will be able to command their AI teammates using either an on-screen interface or with voice commands through the game's "finely tuned speech recognition system."Ready or Not still doesn't have a release date, but the game is projected to launch in late 2020. Ahead of that, players can pre-order it through Void Interactive's website. The game is available in two versions; the standard edition (which runs for $40), and the $120 Supporter edition.Along with the full game, the standard edition grants players access to a beta taking place in June 2020. The Supporter edition, meanwhile, also includes access to an alpha build in August of this year, as well as an FBI HRT pack and a 25% discount on the game's first expansion.Info from Gamespot.com
