Although it hasn't been officially confirmed by Ubisoft, it appears as if the next game in the Assassin's Creed franchise will take place in a Viking setting. The game is expected to launch in 2020, with 2019 devoted to the release of a remastered edition of Assassin's Creed III and Odyssey's Fate of Atlantis episodic DLC.Theories that the next mainline Assassin's Creed game will take place in the era of Vikings sprung up with the discovery of odd posters in The Division 2. YouTuber JorRaptor noticed that the numerous Viking posters located in The Division 2's Potomac Event Center seemed to feature a Norse god or traveller holding what appears to be an Apple of Eden. Kotaku has since confirmed from two independent sources "familiar with the game" that the next Assassin's Creed title--codenamed "Kingdom" and scheduled for 2020--stars Vikings. One of Assassin's Creed's Pieces of Eden, the Apple, has been one of the most prominent ties in the Ubisoft franchise, with versions of it appearing in the original game, Assassin's Creed II, Brotherhood, Revelations, III, Syndicate, and Origins, as well as many of the comics, novels, and the live action movie. These ancient technologies were developed by a fictional race that lived centuries prior to most of the events of the Assassin's Creed franchise, and they--along with the other Pieces of Eden--have been repeatedly used as the main source of power for history's seemingly supernatural or divine figures. If the next Assassin's Creed does have a Viking setting, it flies in the face of fans' repeated requests for a game in Japan, and discounts the 2016 leak that revealed the franchise's next titles would be a trilogy telling the origin of the Assassin and Templar conflict--set first in Egypt, and then followed by Greece and finally Rome (although getting two out of three settings isn't that bad). The Viking Age commonly refers to the period of time in Northern Europe between the ninth and eleventh centuries, which could put this next Assassin's Creed game anywhere between 100-400 years prior to the events of the very first game. Both Origins and Odyssey have detailed how forgotten members of history discovered the value of killing key figures as opposed to waging wars, giving rise to the Hidden Ones. But the franchise still hasn't shown how the Hidden Ones become the Assassin Brotherhood seen in the first game, nor how their enemies, The Order of Ancients, become the Assassins' foes, The Templar Order, also seen in the first game.Info from Gamespot.com

One of the best games released last year is marked down for a limited time--you can get Monster Hunter World for $32.39 via Fanatical, which sells officially licensed Steam keys for PC games. At nearly 50% off, this is an incredible price, and it won't last long--Fanatical's "star deals" last only 48 hours or until stock runs out. You'll receive the Steam key immediately after purchasing.Get Monster Hunter World on PC for $32.39 »This is a great time to pick up Monster Hunter World for PC, as it just received graphical and design improvements yesterday. You can grab the high-resolution texture pack for free now on Steam.Released January 26, 2018 for Xbox One and PS4 and on August 9 for PC, Monster Hunter World brought a new level of accessibility to the series that has long been a sensation in Japan but not as popular in the United States. Currently the best-selling title in Capcom's history, Monster Hunter World made GameSpot's top 10 games list of 2018 and was praised for its excellent single-player campaign, well-paced tutorial, deadly AI, and seamless multiplayer integration in GameSpot's Monster Hunter World review."Ever since the title was first announced, it was clear that Capcom was gunning for something grander than Monster Hunter Generations. It has succeeded, and this is likely the biggest and best that the franchise has ever been," wrote critic Ginny Woo. "It's not just the comparative depth of the narrative; it also boasts almost seamless integration between combat systems that were previously incomprehensible for amateurs." Info from Gamespot.com

Last month, Niantic hosted Pokemon Go's first Legendary Lunch Hour, a new, experimental event intended to give players more opportunities to challenge Raid Battles alongside their colleagues and classmates. The developer has now announced a second Legendary Lunch Hour, which is set for next Wednesday, April 10.Just as before, the second Legendary Lunch Hour will take place from 12-1 PM local time. During that window, there will be more five-star Raids featuring Giratina in its Origin Forme, which started appearing for the first time in Pokemon Go earlier this week. Unlike Giratina's Altered Forme, its Origin Forme is serpent-like in appearance and has more attack-oriented stats.Niantic has said it ultimately plans to turn the Legendary Lunch Hour into a regular weekly event, but for the moment, it appears the developer is still experimenting with and refining the event based on player input. "We are continuing to test this event to make it even better," Niantic wrote on the Pokemon Go website. "We understand that not every Trainer can participate in every event, but these tests are the first step in creating more events focused on different play styles."In the meantime, players still have a few more days to participate in the Bug Out, a Bug Pokemon-focused event running until April 9. Until then, Bug-types like Wurmple, Yanma, and others will appear in the wild more frequently, and you'll have an opportunity to catch Shiny Scyther. There are also special Field Research tasks focusing on Bug Pokemon to complete, and Incenses will last twice as long as normal and attract even more Pokemon.Pokemon Go's next Community Day is set for April 13, with this month's featured Pokemon being Bagon. Niantic also recently announced it is bringing Pokemon Go Fest back for another year as part of its Summer Tour series of events. This time, the developer will also host Go Fests in Germany and Asia in addition to Chicago.Info from Gamespot.com

Suicide Squad escaped the DC jailhouse in August 2016 but found itself locked in less-than-favorable reviews. Despite the negative critical reception, David Ayer's movie grossed a worldwide box office total of $746.8 million. With that kind of gross, a new Suicide Squad movie was bound to happen. However, it's not a sequel. It's a total reboot, and it's officially called The Suicide Squad--and newcomer Idris Elba's role is changing.According to Comic Book, producer Peter Safran (Aquaman, Shazam) said, "It's not Suicide Squad 2. It is not a sequel. I will leave that alone but, yes, it's called The Suicide Squad." That reiterates what was announced previously. The return of Gunn has coincided with at least one big casting change. Will Smith, who played Deadshot, has dropped out of The Suicide Squad reportedly due to scheduling issues. In his stead, Idris Elba (Star Trek Beyond, The Dark Tower) will pick up the guns. [Update: Variety now reports that the Deadshot character will instead be dropped, with Elba set to play someone else instead. Just who that will be remains to be seen, though Variety notes this leaves open the door that Smith could return as Deadshot in the future.]James Gunn (best known for helming the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies), who was fired and rehired to write and direct Guardians 3, will also write and direct The Suicide Squad.Additionally, as Comic Book reports, Jai Courtney (Alita: Battle Angel, Terminator Genisys), who played Captain Boomerang, and Viola Davis (Fences, Widows), who played Amanda Waller, are expected to reprise their roles. There are currently no other casting announcements. Margie Robbie (I, Tonya, Terminal), who played Harley Quinn, is currently working on the femme fatale's solo film, Birds of Prey. The Suicide Squad is scheduled to release on August 6, 2021. This week brought with a trailer for the new Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix, as well as the debut of Shazam.Info from Gamespot.com

Epic Games has announced a new addition to Fortnite: Battle Royale. Called the Reboot Van, the feature allows you to bring back squadmates that have died in battle--similar to the respawn stations in Apex Legends. As part of Fortnite's next update, Reboot Vans and Reboot Cards will be added to the battle royale game. Upon death, squadmates will drop their Reboot Card, which can be used at a Reboot Van to respawn them."After a squadmate has been eliminated, grab their dropped Reboot Card and any surviving squadmates can activate it at a van," Epic Games community manager Nathan Mooney said in a video detailing the new respawn feature, which can be watched below. "Once activated, you'll definitely know, as a beacon and audio cue will be set off, informing nearby players to the reboot in progress and how many players will be arriving. You're squad will appear, one by one, on top of the van--ready to jump back into the match."Much like in Apex Legends, your teammates will respawn back into the match without their weapons or items. So, in order to be sure they aren't left completely helpless, it's in your best interest to have something on hand that you can drop for your revived allies. Upon respawning a player, the Reboot Van will temporarily deactivate, and only turn back online after a set period of time. The idea of respawning in Fortnite was first addressed in an Epic Games Reddit AMA in February 2019. "We've been considering this mechanic for a while and have been exploring it," an Epic producer said. "[We] want to make sure we give it the time it needs and fully understand its impact on the game as a whole. Look for further updates during Season 8." Season 8 started shortly thereafter, on February 28, and introduced pirate-themed content into Fortnite. The new Legendary skin for Season 8, Ruin, has just been revealed, and it can be unlocked in Week 8 by completing the season's weekly challenges. In our Fortnite review, Michael Higham gave the game an 8/10. The battle royale game is available on Xbox One, PS4, PC, Switch, and mobile.Info from Gamespot.com

Mortal Kombat 11 developer NetherRealm has given fans their first look at another playable character. During today's Kombat Kast livestream, the studio unveiled the Kollector, an entirely new fighter making his debut in the upcoming fighting game."A proud servant of the Outworld Empire, the Kollector cares only for his wealth and status and will kill anyone to keep it," NetherRealm said of the character. Much like Goro, the Kollector has four arms that he takes full advantage of in battle, as you can see in his reveal trailer above. The video also gives us a look at one of the Kollector's Fatalities, which sees him literally ripping an opponent apart. The Kollector is the third brand-new playable character announced for MK 11 thus far. Earlier this week, NetherRealm revealed Cetrion, an Elder God capable of wielding elemental powers in battle. Before that, the studio unveiled Geras, the loyal servant of MK 11 boss Kronika. Geras has the power to conjure up objects made of sand and even manipulate time.More than 20 playable characters have been confirmed for the game so far, including an assortment of returning favorites like Kung Lao, Liu Kang, and Jax, who were revealed during Sony's inaugural State of Play presentation. NetherRealm also unveiled one of MK 11's DLC characters, Shang Tsung, whose likeness this time is based on Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, the actor who portrayed him in the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie.Mortal Kombat 11 launches for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on April 23. The Switch version is being developed by Shiver Entertainment with oversight from NetherRealm; we had a chance to check it out at PAX East 2019 and found it ran and played perfectly fine on the console despite being a visual downgrade. Battlefield V launched last year without microtransactions, but with the release of a new update, they're now live in the World War II shooter. This patch, Tides of War Chapter 3: Trial by Fire Update #2, introduces "Battlefield Currency," which is the name for the virtual currency that is purchased with real money. The update also deals heavily with improving the recently added battle royale Firestorm mode.Players can spend Battlefield Currency to buy cosmetic items; they do not affect gameplay. Items that can be purchased with Battlefield Currency can also be earned through gameplay. "The balanced rock-paper-scissors gameplay that has always been the foundation of the Battlefield series isn't going anywhere," DICE said. "Player skill will continue to be paramount with the addition of Battlefield Currency, which gives players more ways to acquire items to customize their characters and arsenal in Battlefield V."This patch also sees DICE release new Epic-level rarity items beyond the current Common, Uncommon, and Rare items that you can buy with Battlefield V's existing Company Coin currency. The wording of the statement suggests that the new Epic items may be only available to buy with real money, at least for now. Here's how it's worded:"Starting April 4, using Battlefield Currency, you'll get access to new Epic items. Looking ahead, we will continue to release new cosmetic items that can be obtained through direct progression, Company Coins, and/or Battlefield Currency. We want to give every player a chance to access new cosmetic items, whether they choose to spend real-world money or earn content through gameplay."Battlefield Currency is available to buy from within Battlefield V on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, as well as through first-party digital stores. Looking further out, DICE will release "time-savers" that players can buy with real money; these come in the form of Tier Catch-Ups and XP Boosts. Tier Catch-Ups give you instant access to Chapter Reward items, which are cosmetic only. XP Boosts do just that.In addition, DICE will release new "Elite" sets for Battlefield V that can be purchased for real money using Battlefield Currency. A first for the Battlefield series, Elites are new characters that you can use in multiplayer and the Firestorm battle royale mode."They consist of a themed assortment of cosmetic items, character voice overs, a Best Squad animation, and an exclusive Special Assignment that helps bring to life the story of the Elite and unlocks a signature melee weapon," DICE said. These Elites are different in look only; they offer no gameplay advantage. In addition to all of this, DICE will offer "value bundles" for real money. Only available for a limited time, the bundles come with a mixture of things like cosmetics, currency, time savers, and other items. The full contents of the bundles will be displayed at the buying screen so you know what you're getting. One example of the bundles are Starter Packs that are out now. These come with allotments of Battlefield Currency, as well as customisation options like face paint and weapon skins. For more on Battlefield V's microtransactions, check out this in-depth blog post from DICE.The direction Battlefield V is taking as it relates to microtransactions is decidedly different from how the series handled microtransactions in the past. In previous titles, DICE offered "Shortcut" kits that allowed players to pay real money to acquire weapons and other perks that provided an instant theoretical advantage on the battlefield for those who spent money. DICE's Star Wars: Battlefront II was roundly criticised for being too close to a "pay-to-win" scenario with its own loot boxes and microtransactions, so it could be that Battlefield V's change in direction as it relates to microtransactions is a reaction to that.Battlefield V has sold more than 7 million copies, but that's below what publisher Electronic Arts was expecting. The game is no doubt continuing to sell, and the extra revenue coming from microtransactions may improve the game's overall profitability profile further still. Not only that, but the game just added its battle royale mode, Firestorm, which may improve interest and engagement with Battlefield V overall.Info from Gamespot.com
