One of the biggest new features in Super Mario Maker 2 is the addition of multiplayer. Not only can you build courses with a nearby friend simply by passing them a second controller, you can play any of the stages uploaded to the online Course World hub with up to three other players around the world. However, it appears the online multiplayer options will be limited strictly to strangers.Super Mario Maker 2 offers two online multiplayer modes: Versus and Co-Op. As their names suggest, Versus is a competitive race to reach the goal first, while Co-Op has players working together to clear the level. You can play both modes with friends if they're gathered in the same room, but according to Nintendo Life, the modes will only match you up with random players when you're playing online. There are also some hurdles to overcome if you want to play locally. While all four players can play Co-Op mode on the same console, if you want to face off with your friends in a Versus match, each player will need their own Nintendo Switch console and a copy of Super Mario Maker 2, and the player who hosts the group will need to have a persistent internet connection to connect to Course World. In addition to multiplayer, Super Mario Maker 2 introduces a number of other new features, including a Story mode. The game also expands the course editor with a load of new tools, customization options, and enemies, including the angry sun from Super Mario 3 (although it looks weirder than ever in certain game styles). Unlike the original Super Mario Maker, you won't need to wait to unlock course parts; almost all of the game's tools will be available from the start.Super Mario Maker 2 launches for Switch on June 28. We had a chance to go hands-on with the game recently and came away impressed by its range of tools and options. You'll need to have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription in order to play and share levels online, but Nintendo is offering a bundle that includes a 12-month membership with the game for $70. You can read more in our Super Mario Maker 2 pre-order guide.Info from Gamespot.com

CEO Tim Sweeney said the Epic Store will alter its exclusivity policy if Steam changes how developers and publishers are compensated. "If Steam committed to a permanent 88% revenue share for all developers and publishers without major strings attached," he said. "Epic would hastily organize a retreat from exclusives (while honoring our partner commitments) and consider putting our own games on Steam."In our Journey review, we awarded the game our coveted and rare 10/10 rating, saying, "Journey's real rewards aren't so pedestrian. Journey offers you comfort. It gives you companionship in a lovely but forsaken world. It gives you reason to dream even when facing loss."Info from Gamespot.com

Throughout the Toy Story trilogy, Woody and Buzz have remained the two main characters. Others have played significant roles, such as Jesse in Toy Story 2, but the franchise has always been about Andy's two main toys, their friendship with one another, and their evolving relationship with their owner as he grew older. That all changes in Toy Story 4, as Pixar has made the decision to transform Bo-Peep--who wasn't even in Toy Story 3--into one of the main characters of the movie alongside Woody and Buzz.In Toy Story 3, Bo-Peep is only mentioned briefly in passing, a throwaway line implying she was given away years before the events of the third film. Toy Story 4 opens with that exact moment, showcasing the series of events that led to Molly giving Bo-Peep away. It's an emotional scene and one that sets the tone for the rest of the movie. Toy Story 4 is not another whimsical adventure for Woody and Buzz--it's the story of how Bo-Peep's life away from Woody and the rest of Andy's toys reshapes both her and, by extension, Woody."We have two films where she's present, and our edit team collaborated, and they cut together every single shot that she's in and we watched them. And it's not that much," Toy Story 4 story supervisor Valerie LaPointe said during a panel at Pixar HQ devoted to explaining the team's process for reimagining Bo-Peep. "It's really just a few minutes. Because she's really not even a secondary character, she's kind of a tertiary character in the first two films.""At the same time, she's still a powerful presence," LaPointe continued. "To Woody, she is confident, she's flirty, and she's the voice of reason. She's someone that he confides in on a deeper level, even more so than Buzz in the second film. So she still has a powerful impact."This impact is stronger in Toy Story 4, according to LaPointe, as Woody is "going to evolve and change and grow through this film," with Bo-Peep as the primary catalyst behind this transformation.Bo-Peep has changed quite a bit since we last saw her in Toy Story 2. "We really needed to redefine who Bo is for this movie," Toy Story 4 story artist Carrie Hobson said. "So the story team worked really hard to nail down those specific personality traits. Ultimately, we decided she's a character who decided she didn't just want to sit on a shelf waiting for life to happen. She learned to adapt. She takes chances and is somewhat unpredictable--a lot different from Woody. She doesn't play by toy rules, so she can literally change her default 'toy mode,' which means when a kid picks her up, she can change what pose she's locked into, enabling her to be a different type of toy depending on the kid that's playing with her. She's more active and resourceful in her life as a lost toy."Even Bo-Peep's wardrobe has changed. She's transformed her dress into a cloak that's draped over her pants and blouse, allowing her to run, climb, and fight more freely. "One of the challenges we faced was how to portray Bo as athletic while still feminine," Toy Story 4 directing animator Patty Kihm said. "We found in a lot of research that a lot of strong, athletic women are often portrayed as masculine in movies, but we wanted Bo to be both athletic and feminine." Pixar turned to other fictional women in their research for Bo-Peep's new wardrobe and movements, such as The Bride from Kill Bill and Rey from The Force Awakens.Yet, under all these changes, fans will be able to recognize pieces of the Bo-Peep from the first two movies. "She was always very witty and sarcastic in the original movies, but now she's also a little more silly, a little more playful and competitive," Hobson said. "She's rougher than Woody because she's seen things, she knows what it takes to get the job done, and she's not afraid to do it.""Bo has changed a lot in 20 years," Toy Story 4 character modeling artist Mara MacMahon added. "She's been through a ton. But it's still Bo-Peep. It's a friend you haven't seen in 20 years, and at first glance, it seems like they're super different, but there's still an underlying continuity to who they are and how you remember them."Toy Story 4 is scheduled to release June 21, and advance tickets are now on sale.Info from Gamespot.com

At the heart of any European town founded before the 19th century lies a church. It's the same with Anno 1800. At the center of your city sits a magnificent cathedral, its spectacular steeple reaching for the heavens and illuminating the lives of everyone who passes by. It’s a very beautiful church, but it’s hiding something. At the heart of Anno 1800 lies an intimidating and complex financial simulation. It may seem like you're overseeing the rise and occasional fall of a European-style city as it comes of industrial age. But really, you're juggling numbers, thumb wedged in the accounts ledger, finessing production efficiencies and stabilizing trade fluctuations. Anno 1800 is perhaps the prettiest spreadsheet I've ever seen. Each randomly generated map in the core sandbox mode unfurls as a mostly blank canvas, a glistening sea dotted with fertile islands waiting to be claimed by you and your (AI or human) opponents. As you grow and expand your reach across multiple islands and into the New World--and your empire undergoes its Industrial Revolution--you'll employ more advanced technologies, extracting coal and oil to fuel great belching factories and formidable steam engines. But the basic principle remains constant: Satisfy your population by employing them to manufacture natural resources into commodities that encourage more people to move to your cities.Everything becomes a production chain for you to configure, massage and optimize. Early on the choices you're making here are relatively simple; the virgin terrain of your first settlement makes it easy to place the knitter near the farm so the wool is delivered swiftly and the warehouse within range so the finished goods can be collected for immediate sale. But soon the need for a navy means you've had to build a sailmaker's yard which is now diverting wool previously used by the knitter. Building another sheep farm means finding the physical space for an additional farm as well as for all the extra housing for the new farmers. Extend this scenario a few hours into a game and it will encompass dozens of productions chains of increasing complexity and inter-connectivity.Managing these productions chains--whether it's work clothes and sails or beer and pocket watches--is an enjoyable exercise in a kind of "balancing the books" sense. You know you have to spend resources to grow, but your success depends on finding that ever-moving sweet spot between overreaching and not pushing far enough. It's necessary to keep the requisite resources flowing and meet the housing and job demands of your population, but it's not sufficient. To maintain a firm hand on your economy you have to appreciate the various financial levers available to you, allowing fine adjustments to tax rates and production ratios that can genuinely mean the difference between keeping it in the black and going bankrupt.Of course, it's also just as enjoyable to play the more visual puzzle game of city planning, slotting in that new building not only where its specific dimensions fit, but where it also retains proximity to its related structures in the chain. Nobly assisting matters here is the "move" tool that lets you--for no resource cost at all--pick up and move any building to another location. Need to pop a police station downtown but there's no room? Just move the nearby houses further down the street to open up the space. It really does look utterly beautiful when it all comes together, too, like an exquisitely detailed diorama that you can poke, prod and tweak to your heart’s content. There’s even a first-person mode that lets you walk the streets and observe all your townsfolk going about their day to day business. I especially welcomed the moments I was able to spend admiring the view before some new urgent matter warranted investigation and I had to return to crunching those numbers.Spinning all the plates becomes even trickier as you advance into the Industrial Age. Production chains that were once straightforward, one-to-one input/output ratios turn into logistical nightmares as multiple buildings start feeding into multiple other buildings. The demands of the job are only exacerbated by a lack of clarity in the feedback you're given when things aren't operating at full capacity. Simple things like knowing how many flour mills and grain farms support a bakery just aren't communicated clearly enough in-game or in the non-existent manual. I spent hours engaged in trial and error in such situations before finding a comprehensive external wiki that I found myself alt-tabbing to constantly while I played. There is a campaign mode that functions as a tutorial before it segues into the main sandbox. And there is an additional setting that enables a more guided experience, providing you with specific goals at the appropriate moments. I found both very welcome, even as someone who had played some of the previous Anno games. But at the same time, I felt that other important aspects weren't explained thoroughly enough, if at all, and it was frustrating to guess at solutions to problems I wasn't confident I'd even diagnosed correctly.Much of Anno 1800 is spent watching numbers go up and down. Total gold is going down. Now it's going back up again. There aren't enough workers for the number of available jobs. Okay, now there are too many workers and not enough engineers. Sometimes it's clear why these things are happening and sometimes it's obvious what you can do to rectify the situation. However, other times it isn't and it's really quite panic-inducing. My stomach tightened whenever the numbers plummeted into the red, but as soon as they shot back into the black I would feel a surge of relief. Even so, outside of these sharp swings, when the numbers remained relatively stable and my economy seemed to be ticking over steadily, I couldn't shake this nagging sense that everything was always on the verge of complete collapse.I spent all of my time playing Anno 1800 in a mild yet pervasive state of anxiety. As a city-building sim that emphasizes economic management, it is as robust and powerful as the steel factories it allows you to pollute the skies with. But for all the natural beauty of its island paradise and the architectural splendor of its churches, theatres, and piers, it's just a little too cold in its reliance on numbers and a little too impenetrable in its reluctance to show you its workings. I'm glad I visited, but I don't think I'd want to live there. Info from Gamespot.com

Ubisoft has managed to create a reputation for accidentally having its games leak prior to their announcement, going as far back as 2012's Assassin's Creed III. Although a few are ultimately disproved, many are not. That doesn't automatically make this newest leak--that Ubisoft will announce a roller derby-themed multiplayer game at E3 2019--true, but it does mean it's at least plausible.According to the leak--first reported by Spiel Times via leaked assets and gameplay details, all of which have now appeared on ResetEra--Roller Champions is an upcoming multiplayer-focused roller derby game developed by Ubisoft. Visually, the in-game characters look an awful lot like Fortnite. However, the contained arenas surrounded by cheering fans, the assortment of different casual and ranked matches, and the controls are very similar to Rocket League. Just looking at the leaked footage, Roller Champions' courses look like Rocket League's arenas as well, with a sunny beach and in-door professional stadium among the playable tracks. When Polygon reached out to a Ubisoft representative, the company responded that it does not comment on "rumors and speculation," so nothing has been confirmed. Roller Champions is supposedly coming to Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch. However, no scheduled release date is included in the leak. If the leak happens to be true, and Ubisoft does announce Roller Champions during its E3 2019 press conference, a launch date would probably be announced then.During the company's May 2019 financial earnings call, Ubisoft revealed it had three unannounced games scheduled to release between January and March 2020. Ubisoft didn't supply many details for what the three games are, other than all three would be full-priced releases and all be different genres (a specific phrase used was "unique experiences"). A roller derby game is pretty unique for Ubisoft, so it's possible Roller Champions is one of the three and thus scheduled to release in Q1 2020.Info from Gamespot.com

There's less than a month before Toy Story 4 lands in theaters--advanced tickets are now on sale--which continues the adventures of Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), and their motley crew of toy companions. There are also a couple of new faces in the mix--and the return of an old one. We know Bo Peep (Annie Potts) is returning to the franchise after sitting out Toy Story 3, while new carnival toys played by Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key are popping up.Another new addition is Forky (Tony Hale), the toy that Bonnie (Madeleine McGraw)--who inherited the Woody and his pals from Andy--made herself that is the subject of a brand-new clip from the film. The new toy, who was first introduced in a Toy Story 4 teaser trailer, looks like an art project gone horribly wrong, as Bonnie seems to have attached pipe cleaners and googly eyes to a spork, which brought it to life.In the clip, it's revealed that Woody seemingly snuck into Bonnie's backpack and went to school with her for the day, only to come home with Forky in tow. The little spork looks downright terrified of his fellow toys, while the gang is mostly fascinated. Woody also mentions there's a road trip coming for the toys. This road trip is central to the movie's plot. Along the way, Woody ends up reuniting with Bo Peep, who isn't the same toy you remember from Toy Story 2. According to the movie's synopsis, "Bo's adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they're worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that's the least of their worries."This new evolution of Bo Peep is an important one, as the character steps into the spotlight. When GameSpot visited Pixar headquarters to learn more about Toy Story 4, the movies story artist Carrie Hobson explained, "Ultimately, we decided she's a character who decided she didn't just want to sit on a shelf waiting for life to happen. She's more active and resourceful in her life as a lost toy."Thanks to this growth in Bo Peep, Woody will face some changes of his own. Story supervisor Valerie LaPoint teased the cowboy is "going to evolve and change and grow through this film."After toy toys found new life with Bonnie in Toy Story 4, it sounds like it may be time for them to find themselves in the new movie. Toy Story 4 is in theaters on June 21. Info from Gamespot.com

It's by far the most artistic and personal project I've ever created, written during a very emotional time in my life," Jo-Mei CEO Cornelia Geppert said in the announcement. Fortnite appears to be teasing another world event, and this one is massive. A giant eyeball has appeared locked in the ice, and it very likely belongs to an equally enormous creature of some kind..The eyeball can be spotted underneath Polar Peak, after recent volcanic activity shaved off some of the ice. It will even watch you and follow your movements if you happen to be close enough. Rumblings also suggest that the monster is able to move and won't stay locked in that iceberg forever.Speculation ranges from some kind of dragon to another movie tie-in with Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Whatever it is, it could represent a community event around taking down one enormous enemy, as Epic has been toying with the idea of collectively chipping away at an ultra-sized health bar. Recently it had users "vote" on a community reward by striking at an object encased in a vault, but that event ran into an error, forcing Epic to offer a replay.Fortnite has been frequently doing tie-ins with popular movies alongside their release, such as the recent events surrounding John Wick and Avengers: Endgame. Netflix has become the first major studio to speak out in opposition of Georgia's recent "heartbeat" abortion law. The company said in a statement to The Wall Street Journal that it opposes the action, but will continue to film its shows in the state. Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said Netflix would "rethink out entire investment" in Georgia if the abortion law goes into effect in 2020 as scheduled.Sarandos added that Netflix will support actors who do not wish to film Netflix content in Georgia.Georgia is a hotbed for film and TV production due in part to the tax credits that the state provides. There were a reported 455 productions in the state in fiscal year 2018 alone, and Netflix's own Stranger Things and Ozark film there.Georgia's restrictive abortion law is expected to be challenged in court. The CEO of film studio Miramax, Bill Block, told WSJ earlier this year that he would seek other places to film in wake of the abortion law. "This type of regressive, intolerant legislation will be a strong deterrent when we consider where to produce both television and film projects," he said. The Handmaid's Tale director Reed Morano said recently that she would not film a new show in Georgia due to the abortion law. The Kristin Wiig comedy Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar also recently announced it wouldn't film in Georgia as planned due to the law.The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams and Get Out director Jordan Peele also recently announced that they would donate profits from a new HBO show filming in Georgia to organizations working to fight the Georgia abortion law.The Avengers and many other Marvel movies also film in Georgia, but studio owner Disney has yet to take a public stance on the Georgia abortion law. The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) is going after Sony over claims that the PlayStation company made "false or misleading statements" to Australian gamers in regards to refunds. Specifically, the ACCC said in a statement that it takes issue with Sony Europe's statement in September 2017 that the company was not required to provide refunds for downloaded games, or if two weeks had passed since the purchase."Sony Europe also allegedly told consumers it did not have to provide refunds unless the game developer told the consumer the game was irreparably faulty or otherwise authorized a refund. It also told consumers that it could provide refunds using virtual PlayStation currency instead of money," the ACCC's statement continues. The ACCC says these claims are "false or misleading." Under Australian Consumer Law, consumers are entitled to a refund, repair, or replacement "if a product is faulty because it is not of acceptable quality, is not fit for purpose or does not match descriptions made by the businesses, depending on the seriousness of the fault." Sony is running afoul to this with its refund policy, the ACCC says."We allege that Sony Europe gave false and misleading information to their customers about their rights in relation to games sold via its PlayStation Store," ACCC Chair Rod Sims said in a statement. "Consumer guarantees do not expire after a digital product has been downloaded as we allege Sony Europe told consumers, and refunds must be given in the form of original payment unless a consumer chooses to receive it in store credit."He added: "Consumers who buy digital products online have exactly the same rights as they would at a physical store. Sony Europe's alleged conduct may have caused Australian consumers to not seek a refund, replacement or repair for a faulty game when the Australian Consumer Law gave them a right to do so."Further still, the ACCC says Sony Europe made a statement in October 2017 that its own liability to provide a refund for faulty products was "limited," but the ACCC says this is not true. According to Australian Consumer Law, all businesses that operate in Australia must comply. This is the same argument that the ACCC used against Valve over that company's refund policy. Valve ended up paying a $3 million fine related to the ACCC's campaign, and a notice is now posted on Steam's Australian store that outlines the refund policy."No matter where in the world a company has its headquarters, if it is selling to Australian consumers, the Australian Consumer Law applies," Sims said. The ACCC is demanding that Sony make good to consumers with "pecuniary penalties, injunctions, declarations, correctives, and costs."You can read the full complaint against Sony here on the ACCC's website [PDF]. This action comes amid rumors of Sony preparing to officially announce the PlayStation 5.Info from Gamespot.com
