We may be nearing the end of Season 9 of Fortnite, but Epic's hit battle royale game shows no signs of slowing down. Not only is the 14 Days of Summer event underway (which has its own set of challenges to complete and rewards to unlock), Week 8's challenges are now live on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices, giving you another opportunity to earn Battle Stars and level your Season 9 Battle Pass up.If you can finish all seven tasks from a given week, you'll also complete one of this season's Utopia challenges. The reward for doing so is a special loading screen that leads to a free item hidden somewhere around the game's map. Each odd-numbered Utopia challenge you complete will lead you to a free Battle Star, which levels your Battle Pass up by one full tier. Even-numbered Utopia challenges, on the other hand, will point you to a Fortbyte--a new type of collectible introduced in Season 9.Unlike the aforementioned Battle Stars, you don't need to actually complete the Utopia challenges in order to find the Fortbytes; you can pick them up as long as you have a Season 9 Battle Pass and know where to go, but they won't actually appear in the game until that week's challenges have gone live. That's the case with Fortbyte #97, which is now live (albeit a little later than anticipated). As is the case with previous Fortbytes, the clue for #97 isn't hidden within the Week 8 loading screen itself, but rather its description, which reads: "Peely and Jonesy first met at Bao Bros. and instantly knew they would be friends forever." This is your clue to head to the dumpling shop in Lucky Landing. The shop itself is easy to spot; you can tell it apart by the giant angry dumpling head spinning on its roof. Head inside, then make your way downstairs to the gym and the Fortbyte will appear. There are a few weeks left in Season 9, so you still have some time to catch up on any outstanding challenges from this season. If you need help completing them, you can find tips and guides for all the trickier ones in our full Fortnite Season 9 challenges roundup. We also have guides for the 14 Days of Summer challenges to help you clear those. If you manage to complete all 14 by the time the event ends, you'll unlock a special smoothie back bling.Info from Gamespot.com

For the past year or so, DC has been partnered with Walmart stores for the sale of 100-page special comics that include reprints of classic issues as well as original, ongoing stories written by current DC talent. Fan-favorites like Batman and Superman both got the 100-page treatment, with their respective new stories involving a creative team switcheroo. Brian Michael Bendis, the current mainline Superman writer, took on the 100-page special Batman with artist Nick Derrington, and Tom King, the current mainline Batman writer, took on Superman with artist Andy Kubert.Since their initial release, the only way to read these new original stories was by tracking down a physical copy of the special at Walmart--that is, until now. After nearly a year of exclusivity to Walmart stores, the 100-page special line has evolved and expanded--including publication of the original stories as traditional comics, available anywhere comics are sold, starting this week with Superman: Up In The Sky #1. Take a look at a preview of the first five pages here. The issue includes the first two parts of the story originally included in the Superman 100-page giants volumes #3 and #4, in which Clark is charged with solving a mysterious rash of murders--a case that promptly goes cosmic and leads him to the alien planet Rann.Superman: Up In The Sky #1 hits shelves this Wednesday. Nintendo has announced the next in-game competition for Switch's free battle royale-like Tetris game, Tetris 99. The fifth Maximus Cup kicks off next week, on July 12, and this time around, the event will be a collaboration with another first-party Switch game: Splatoon 2.To commemorate Splatoon 2's final Splatfest event, which takes place later this month, the next Maximus Cup will be themed after the colorful shooter. The event runs until 11:59 PM PT on July 15. Players who amass at least 100 event points during that time will unlock a special in-game Splatoon theme in Tetris 99.Tetris 99 is free to download and play for everyone who has a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Subscriptions for the service are available for $4 USD per month, $8 USD for three months, and $20 USD for 12 months. Nintendo recently released a $10 Big Block DLC that adds two offline modes, so non-members can also play Tetris 99 (provided they purchase the DLC). However, you'll still need a membership to take part in the game's Maximus Cup events and to play against other players online.Splatoon 2's final Splatfest, meanwhile, kicks off the following week, on July 18. Fittingly, the final event features an apocalyptic theme, pitting Team Order vs. Team Chaos. The Splatfest will also last much longer than normal, running for 72 hours. During the first 48, each Shifty Station stage from previous Splatfests will return to the rotation, with a brand-new stage appearing during the final 24 hours. Following the Splatfest, Splatoon 2 will receive a 5.0 update in late July.Tetris 99 surprise launched this past February and garnered attention for its novel battle royale-inspired take on the puzzle series, but it won't be the only Tetris game of this kind for much longer. A 100-player Tetris game called Tetris Royale is in development for mobile devices. The game is slated to launch in beta form in "select territories" later this year and will feature leaderboards, as well as daily challenges and a solo Marathon mode.Info from Gamespot.com

With Amazon Prime Day 2019 on the horizon, Prime subscribers are saving up for the biggest shopping event of the season, but one particular perk for Prime members will cost you nothing this month: Twitch Prime's free PC games, which are available to claim now through July 31. And once you claim them, the games are yours to keep. July's offering of games is very good (likely due to Prime Day); here's a look at what's available now.--Yooka-Laylee is a Banjo-Kazooie-inspired platformer where you hunt for collectibles, solve puzzles, defeat enemies, and more, all while playing as Yooka the chameleon and Laylee the bat. The duo is searching for "Pagies," pages of their magical golden book that is stolen at the beginning of the game.--Cultist Simulator is what it sounds like--a game where every action you take will influence others and possible generate a cult-like following. Gameplay-wise, Cultist Simulator is a roguelike narrative card game where the cards you play determine your actions, attributes, emotions, wealth, items, and more. With a 1920s-themed setting and plenty of secrets, Cultist Simulator has no tutorial--it's best to just dive in and experience it for yourself.--The Escapists is also free this month--the top-down strategy game places you in the role of a prisoner aiming to break out of various prisoner (there are six total, plus additional DLC prisons). The game is a sandbox experience, allowing you to get creative with how you plan your escape, whether that's by digging a tunnel, organizing a riot, stealing a guard uniform, or some other clever tactic.--For the King is a single-player or multiplayer RPG with turn-based combat that pulls from multiple genres, such as tabletop and roguelike adventure. The game begins with the death of the king, which inspires citizens of the kingdom (such as yourself) to rise up and oust enemies from their homeland. You can control your own party or partner with up to three people online, or you can set off on your own, fighting monsters, exploring new locations, braving the elements, and more.Twitch Prime also offers free in-game loot and other random benefits on a regular basis. You can currently get free loot drops in games like League of Legends, The Division 2, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 just by claiming them through Twitch. Plus--and this is perhaps one of its best offers--Twitch Prime is giving away 12 months of Nintendo Switch Online for totally free.As a reminder, to claim all these free games, loot, and services, you have to link your Amazon account to your Twitch account; that'll unlock all of Twitch Prime's benefits. It's a great month to sign up for an Amazon Prime 30-day free trial if you're not already a member, as Prime Day 2019 officially kicks off on July 15, and we're expecting some great gaming and entertainment deals as in previous years. Plus, Twitch Prime is offering additional freebies and perks for members this month, including free Apex Legends skins and EA Sports content. After the 30-day trial, an annual Prime membership costs $119 a year (or $59 a year if you're eligible for Prime Student).SIGN UP FOR TWITCH PRIME »How to link an existing Amazon Prime account to Twitch »Free Twitch Prime games for July 2019Yooka-LayleeThe EscapistsCultist SimulatorFor the KingInfo from Gamespot.com

The NPD Group has published an updated list of this console generation's best-selling games in the United States. With figures hovering around 110 million units shipped worldwide, it comes as no surprise that Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V leads the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One lists. But the rest of the results are both curious and predictable.Mat Piscatella, a video games industry analyst for The NPD Group, posted a series of tweets revealing the lists. There are a couple of things to note. First, the list is "life to date through May 2019." Second, while the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One lists include digital and physical game sales, nine out of the 10 Nintendo Switch games--with the exception being Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle--don't include digital sales. On the predictable side, both Marvel's Spider-Man and God of War from 2018 take up the sixth and eighth spots on PlayStation 4, with Marvel's Spider-Man claiming the trophy of Sony's best-selling console exclusive this generation. Rockstar's magnum opus, Red Dead Redemption 2, finds itself in the second spot on PlayStation 4 and the fifth spot on the Xbox One. Though every game on the Nintendo Switch list is a console exclusive, Mario Kart 8 takes first place over both Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (second) and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (third). What's curious to me is, while Call of Duty is a successful franchise, five different entries--2017's WWII (second), 2015's Black Ops 3 (third), 2018's Black Ops 4 (fourth), 2016's Infinite Warfare (sixth), and 2014's Advanced Warfare (ninth)--take up five spots on the Xbox One list. 2017's NBA 2K18 sits in the ninth spot on PlayStation 4. DICE's Star Wars Battlefront from 2015 occupies the eighth spot on Xbox One, and strangely, not a single console exclusive even lands on the list. Destiny 2 does come in at a solid tenth place on Xbox One though.Check out the full lists below.Nintendo SwitchMario Kart 8Super Smash Bros. Nearly three decades after Gremlins 2 hit theaters, the franchise about the little creatures known as Mogwai is ready for a comeback. It's not being rebooted, though. Instead, an animated Gremlins prequel series is in the works for the upcoming WarnerMedia streaming service.Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is set in the 1920s and features a young Mr. Wing--who was introduced in the first movie--as he meets the Mogwai we all know as Gizmo. A series description reads, "Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins."In a press release, it's noted the series will consist of 10 half-hour episodes, with no indication of whether that will simply be for the first season or if it's the entire show. No casting has been announced yet, but the series comes from writer Tze Chun (Gotham) and a long list of producers with credits that include The Americans, the upcoming Animaniacs reboot, Teen Titans Go!, and Coraline, among other titles.Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai joins a growing roster of shows that are set for the upcoming WarnerMedia service. The other notable project is Dune: The Sisterhood, which will have a pilot directed by Denis Villeneuve, the writer and director behind the upcoming Dune film reboot. There's currently no announced launch date for the new service or a premiere date for any of its upcoming programs.Info from Gamespot.com

Fortnite's 14 Days of Summer event is entering its second week, but there's still plenty of time to complete its challenges and unlock some new summer-themed rewards. One of the trickier tasks of the bunch asks you to search Unicorn Floaties at swimming holes. If you don't know where those are located, we're here to point you in the right direction.Where To Find Unicorn Floaties - All LocationsThere are multiple swimming holes scattered around Fortnite's map, but you only need to visit three of them in order to complete this challenge. You also don't need to visit all three within a single match, although you may want to; a couple of them are located fairly close together, so you can take care of the challenge in one go.We've found at least eight different swimming holes around the island; you can see their locations on the map below. As previously mentioned, you only need to visit three of these in order to clear the challenge, so for the sake of expediency, we recommend going to either the three northernmost or southernmost swimming holes, as they're all bunched fairly close together. Here's where you can find the unicorn floaties:Hot spring northwest of Lazy LagoonBeneath the dock in Lazy LagoonNear the northeastern shore of Loot LakeIn the body of water north of Lonely LodgeSmall pond in the northern side of Dusty DivotIn the swimming pool in Paradise PalmsIn the desert between Paradise Palms and Fatal FieldsIn the water at the southern end of Fatal FieldsHow To Complete The Unicorn Floaties ChallengeOnce you know where to go, completing the challenge should be fairly straightforward. Simply locate the aforementioned unicorn floaties, and when you approach, you'll see a prompt to "Search" them. Interact with the pool toys and you'll be another step closer to completing the task. The floaties themselves are fairly small (certainly much smaller than the beach balls you have to bounce for a different 14 Days of Summer challenge), but they should be easy enough to spot once you're in the right area.Search three different unicorn floaties and you'll be done with challenge. Your reward this time is a good one: the Neon Tropics wrap, which can be applied to weapons and vehicles in the game. You can take a look at the wrap, as well as screenshots of some of the floaties, below. If you need more help finding them, we walk you through where three of the floaties are located in the video at the top of this guide. There will be 14 different 14 Days of Summer challenges in total, and if you manage to complete all of them before the event ends, you'll unlock a special smoothie back bling for your troubles. You can see the full list of challenges below, along with links to our other guides. Despite the event's name, you'll have until July 16 to complete all of the challenges.14 Days of Summer ChallengesDance at different Beach PartiesBounce a giant beach ball in different matchesEliminations with the daily unvaulted weapon or the Drum GunThank the Bus Driver and finish top 20 in different matchesPop party balloon decorationsSearch Unicorn Floaties at swimming holesHit a player with a Water Balloon in different matches Info from Gamespot.com

Fortnite developer Epic Games shook up the video game industry when it launched its own PC store. The Epic Games Store pays developers/publishers 88 percent of revenue, with Epic itself taking 12 percent as the store owner. This is a far more developer-friendly percentage than the industry average of 70/30 that holds on Steam, as well as PS4, Xbox One, and Apple.Fredrik Wester, the executive chairman of the board at Cities: Skylines publisher Paradox Interactive, said at an event this week that the 70/30 split is "outrageous." He made the comment at a Gamelab panel in Barcelona this week attended by GI.biz."I think the 70/30 revenue split is outrageous," he said. "I think the platform holders are taking too much money. Everyone in the press here, just quote me on that."Wester went on to say that the 70/30 revenue split is antiquated. It might have made sense in an entertainment world dominated by physical media, but now that games are increasingly digital--especially PC titles--the revenue split should change, he said."So Epic has done a great job for the whole industry, because you get 88%. Fantastic move. Thank you very much," he said.Wester went on to say that Epic paying 88 percent of revenue is advantageous for new, less established studios because they get to keep a larger portion of revenue. Apart from business considerations, Wester said giving developers more money is the decent thing to do."I think it's also a matter of decency. I mean, how much does it actually cost to deliver a game" he said. "When the competition is low, the platform holder can get a big share of the pie; as competition increases, they need to lower their part of the pie, as well. That's how the market works, right?"It is a complicated matter. Developers who take Epic's money are often criticized for doing so, especially in cases where a Steam version was previously promised. But at the same time, taking the money can offer a level of financial stability that is rare in the gaming industry, especially for smaller teams. Qube creator Dan da Rocha said on the panel that Epic's 88/12 revenue split is a "huge boon" for developers."For what it's worth, Epic has said it will stop pursuing exclusives so aggressively if Steam changes its business policies to pay developers a bigger share. It remains to be seen if any change will happen on console, where store-owners like Microsoft and Sony keep 30 percent of revenue.Epic Games CEO and founder Tim Sweeney recently defended the company's exclusivity strategy, saying it is the only way to spur change and encourage storefronts to pay developers a bigger share of revenue.Info from Gamespot.com

The 14 Days of Summer event continues in Fortnite: Battle Royale, delivering daily challenges that are available for the duration of the event, which runs until July 16. Some of these are quite easy, while others are most easily done with a guide or map. Case in point: Epic Games asks you to pop party balloon decorations. Here's what you need to know about how the challenge works and where to find the party balloons around the map.Where Are Party Balloon Decoration Locations? You can find party balloon decorations all around the map--we've found more than a dozen scattered throughout the island. A common location is where you find the beach parties, which are part of an earlier 14 Days of Summer challenge. If you haven't done that one yet, you can double up--just head to those locations, do a dance, and pop the balloons. You can see all of the party balloon decorations we've found in the map below. These are found at ground level and are attached to another object, such as lounge chairs or coolers. How To Pop The Party BalloonsThis is quite straightforward, given this is a shooting game: you just shoot the balloons to pop them. You can also use your pickaxe if you want to save your ammo or haven't found a weapon. But it's notable that you can use a gun, because this means long-range weapons like snipers will allow you to dispatch those no-good, rotten balloons without actually having to get close to them.Something else to bear in mind is that certain locations have a bunch of balloons near each other. While each individual bunch only counts as one decoration popped--you have to pop five in all--these other balloon bunches in the same location do each count. You can see this in action in the video above.Party Balloons Challenge RewardComplete this challenge and you'll earn yourself a spray called Sunny, which paints a cute little sun when used. You'll also be one step closer to earning the Smoothie back bling, which is available to anyone who completes all 14 of the challenges in the 14 Days of Summer event. These are available to all Fortnite: Battle Royale players, whether or not they own the current Battle Pass.14 Days of Summer ChallengesDance at different Beach PartiesBounce a giant beach ball in different matchesEliminations with the daily unvaulted weapon or the Drum GunThank the Bus Driver and finish top 20 in different matchesPop party balloon decorationsSearch Unicorn Floaties at swimming holesHit a player with a Water Balloon in different matchesInfo from Gamespot.com

Respawn Entertainment has detailed the Apex Legends Season 2 Battle Pass challenge system. On the game's website lead product manager Lee Horn said the implementation "should allow for significantly greater Battle Pass progress with less grind over less time for players who return on a regular basis and maximize their challenge resets."Challenges for Apex Legends will be split into two types: daily and weekly, and completing them will contribute towards leveling up your Battle Pass. To minimize the grind, Respawn has said over half of the challenges will grant a Battle Pass level. The rest of the challenges will grant the player Stars which, when combined with match experience points, will work towards fulfilling a repeatable weekly challenge that also gives the player a full Battle Pass level with each completion. Importantly, Horn notes that Stars are XP specific to the Battle Pass and don't impact account level progression.Daily challenges come in the form of three tasks chosen randomly from a pool of 200. Examples include "deal 200 Damage in Bunker" and play one game as Lifeline." They are designed to be achievable in short sessions and award 3,000 Stars each. There will be seven weekly challenges and these are intended to be completed over several play sessions. They range from "get 20 Kills as Gibraltar, Bangalore, or Mirage" to "loot 100 Epic items." Four of these weekly challenges award 6,000 Stars each and three grant an entire Battle Pass level upon completion. If you get a Battle Pass part-way through the season, challenges from previous weeks will also be accessible to latecomers. On top of those, there will be three additional challenges that reset every week. This special set is the same every week and will refresh whether they are completed or not, as they relate to overall challenge progress.
