The Witcher is coming to San Diego Comic-Con this year. The upcoming Netflix TV series will have its own panel in the convention's biggest and most notorious hall, Hall H, on Friday, July 19 (via Deadline). During this panel, the highly-anticipated series will be discussed, and surely, there will be some big surprises there. The panel runs from 2:15 PM to 3 PM PT, though it's unclear at this stage if it'll be streamed. Also unclear is who from the show may be on the panel. The three main stars as Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Frey Allan, who play Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri respectively. They could show up, while another likely candidate is showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich (The West Wing, Daredevil, The Umbrella Academy).Actress Yvette Nicole Brown (Drake & Josh, Avengers: Endgame) will moderate the panel. The 10-episode first season is scheduled to premiere in 2019, and a start-date could be among the announcements at Comic-Con. No footage from the show has been released yet, either, so a first trailer might also be on tap, but nothing is confirmed. The Witcher TV show is set on "The Continent," which is a place where humans, elves, gnomes, witchers, and monsters live in disharmony. According to Netflix, the line between good and evil is "not easily identified." You can check out the first images of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri in the embed above. The Witcher TV show is based on the books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski not the video game series from CD Projekt Red. That's why Geralt only has one sword, not two, in the key art. Hissrich wondered aloud if there will be a "rumble" between those who enjoy the books and those who like the games. She also posted character descriptions for each of the three main characters; she described Geralt as "stoic, circumspect, balance, and fierce," while Ciri is "resilient, relentless, brazen, and growing." Yennefer is "fiery, proud, shrewd, and contradictory."Will there be a rumble between book-lovers and gamers by the end of the day? #Swordgate2019 — Lauren S. Japan's Osaka Prefectural Police will use Capcom's Street Fighter franchise to recruit for investigators focused on cyber-crime. According to Capcom, it "aims to contribute to curbing the sharp rise of cyber-crime by utilizing [Street Fighter's] popularity and image of strength."Capcom, which has its headquarters in Osaka, has previously worked with various police departments in the city to raise awareness about crime, but this represents the most significant partnership between the game maker and the law enforcement, and it comes at a time when cyber-crime is on the rise.Characters from Street Fighter will be featured on 3,000 flyers and 1,000 posters that will be placed at Osaka Prefectural Police stations and police boxes, as well as at train stations, beginning July 2. "The characters will be featured in investigator recruiting advertisements with the aim of boosting awareness of and the number of investigators specializing in cyber-crime--a field that has seen a conspicuous rise in the number of incidents in recent years," Capcom explained."Capcom hopes its characters will contribute to crime prevention activities in Osaka and throughout Japan by broadening the reach of police investigator recruitment. Capcom is committed to serving as a responsible corporate citizen and will continue to conduct proactive CSR activities that include the use of its games to invigorate communities and contribute to society."On paper, this is excellent. Street Fighter is an incredibly popular and recognizable franchise that also has a certain inspirational quality to it. All for it. Good stuff. Down with Shadaloo. However, it's also a franchise based on characters physically punching, kicking, and spinning piledriving their opponents into the ground. Cyber-crime, meanwhile, is ... cyber. You can't tatsumaki senpukyaku a hacker or flash kick a phishing scam--it's all digital. It would have made more sense to use Mega-Man--or Rockman in Japan--who has a history of traveling into networks like the internet to combat evil. Additionally, he's as iconic a character as much of the Street Fighter cast.I dunno, whatever. It's fine. Street Fighter is great. The poster looks cool. Info from Gamespot.com

Ys Net, developer of Shenmue III, has detailed how the PC version of the game will be delivered and addressed the controversial switch to Epic Games Store exclusivity. In a post on the game's Kickstarter page the developer said although it had originally planned to distribute Shenmue III for PC through Valve's Steam service, Ys Net and publisher Deep Silver agreed to a partnership with Epic Games.Although the statement doesn't provide clarity on the reasoning behind this decision, it does say that Deep Silver "contributed not only to sales and marketing, but to scaling up the game so there is more Shenmue III to begin with," while Epic Games has offered its support throughout the development process. This is unlikely to be much of a comfort to people that supported Ys Net's crowdfunding campaign with the understanding that they'd eventually be able to play the game on Steam. However, playing on Steam won't be possible on launch day."In response to backers who have requested Steam keys for their rewards, we discussed offering the keys on the day of release," Ys Net said. "However, coordination with the sales policies of the involved companies was untenable, and as a result, we are not able to make a day one distribution option for Steam keys available."That we are not able to offer Steam keys for Kickstarter rewards at the time of the game's release is a great [disappointment] and inconvenience for those backers who were expecting to receive them. We deeply apologize for the unrest caused by the announcement."At launch, the available options for Kickstarter backers include a PC physical package, a digital key, a PS4 disc, or a PSN voucher code. However, the disk in the PC physical version of the game does not contain the game data and instead just includes the Epic Games Store installer. If you previously selected PC as the preferred platform, you have the option to switch to PS4--or vice verse if you so choose. Those that opt for the PC versions have "an option to also receive a Steam key one year later," though you'll need to manually select this option in the survey.Backers can choose to refund their contribution and Ys Net, Deep Silver, and Epic Games have agreed to honor these requests. Details regarding the refund request process will be announced in the future, but one thing Ys Net notes is that rewards attached to certain backer tiers that have resulted in content being produced and added to the game may not be refundable. The Kickstarter update also states that some stretch goals that were reached during the crowdfunding campaign could not be implemented--despite reaching the funding milestone set out for their inclusion. However, some features attached to stretch goals that were not successfully funded have been added to the game."Development began in line with the stretch goal content, but with the addition of sales partners during production, we were able to increase our development budget," Ys Net explained. "In order to maximize game quality under the adjusted budget, game planning was fundamentally altered and ultimately allowed us to incorporate a number of different elements beyond our original expectations."An overview of the key changes to the stretch goals can be seen in the list below, but you can head over to the Kickstarter page for a more detailed breakdown:Character Perspective System: Funded but not implemented as it could not be achieved in this game.Skill Tree System: Funded but changed to a Skill Book System to better fit the battling styleBaisha Area changed: Funded but changed to Fortified Castle area. Mini-games, infiltration event, battle event, investigation, and battle event have been implemented in the Fortified Castle area.Choubu Area: Not funded but the area has been expanded with four mini-games, four betting games, kung-fu mastery, part-time job added.Bailu Village: Not funded but the area has been expanded with four mini-games, betting games, and kung-fu mastery.Non-Stretch Goal Additions: Story improvements, scaled up free-roaming environments, powered up battle systems, game cycle improvements.Shenmue III's release date is set for November 19. In 2015, over 69,000 people contributed $6.3 million to fund the development of Shenmue III on Kickstarter. Deep Silver later came aboard as a publisher.Info from Gamespot.com

The free PlayStation Plus offerings for July have gotten a last-minute substitution. Sony announced that instead of Pro Evolution Soccer 2019, as previously announced, members will instead get Detroit: Become Human. This is the Digital Deluxe edition, which means it also includes another Quantic Dream game: Heavy Rain. The statement announcing the change didn't give much insight as to the reason for the swap, but the news comes just hours before the free games are set to arrive on PSN."We are making a swap to the PS Plus games lineup for July," the announcement states. "This month, we are adding Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition, which also includes Heavy Rain, to the July games lineup instead of Pro Evolution Soccer 2019. We apologize for any inconvenience."The two-for-one Quantic Dream offering will be joined by Horizon Turbo Chase. Quantic Dream's games have become known for moody, atmospheric cinematic qualities and photorealistic characters, often matching their real-life actors. Detroit: Become Human is the studio's latest, taking place in a not-too-distant future where androids begin to rise up against their subservient roles."I played with my best intentions. Things didn't always go the way I wanted, but that was a burden I chose to bear, and the story benefitted from my commitment, flowcharts be damned," Peter Brown wrote in GameSpot's review. "After completing the game, I tried to go back and fight my instincts to see what would happen if I chose a darker path. It never felt justified nor worthwhile. Detroit is well worth playing, but it struggles to strike the right balance between giving you freedom of choice and reminding you that it's all a game in the end. Cage and Quantic Dream are getting closer to nailing this style of game, but it's obvious that there's still room to grow."Info from Gamespot.com

Apex Legends has now launched Season 2. Respawn has been vocal about learning lessons from its first season, and has already outlined a wide array of changes to expect from the second season. Those include a new character, a revised challenge system, ranked leagues, and more.Apex Legends Season 2 Patch SizeApex Legends Season 2 has launched as of July 2. The patch for Season 2 is noticeably larger than usual. On PC it is more than 18GB, and on Xbox One and PS4 it is more than 20GB. Respawn says this is to add extra content, but also to add a fresh build of the game that removes outdated parts and replaces it with more efficient code. Respawn says this will not be the norm, but occasionally players may need to download large file sizes.New Character: WattsonJust like the last season, Season 2 has introduced an entirely new Legend to play as. This time it's Natalie Paquette, aka Wattson. The young science genius and daughter of the man who built King's Canyon grew up around the Arena. She's important to the lore of the game, and more significantly, she represents a large difference in play style from other characters.Wattson uses her scientific wizardry to construct defensive electrical barriers and pylons to control the battlefield. You can read more about her playstyle to learn all about the latest addition to the roster.A recent trailer also appeared to hint at a second playable character coming in Season 2 as well. How The New Challenges WorkThe update has also revised how challenges work, with a new series of daily and weekly objectives aimed at keeping players engaged while reducing the grind for rewards. Completing daily or weekly challenges count toward your Battle Pass, and over half of the challenges will grant a full Battle Pass level. Other challenges grant Stars which will count as progress towards a Battle Pass levels.Daily challenges are given in groups of three tasks assigned randomly from a pool of 200, such as dealing damage in a particular area or playing as a specific character. Those award 3,000 Stars apiece. Weekly challenges are doled out in sets of seven. These will be much longer and are intended to last multiple play sessions. Four of the seven reward 6,000 Stars while the remaining three grant an entire Battle Pass level. An additional three special challenges are also available and will reset on a weekly basis, giving Battle Pass levels and Stars. Read more details about Apex Legends' Season 2 Challenges.Ranked LeaguesSeason 2 has introduced another new feature, Ranked Leagues. The revised ranking aims to help with matchmaking with a new score system across six competitive tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Apex Predator. Each tier has four divisions, except for Apex Predator. Each ranked match costs a number of Ranked Points (RP) that increases based on your tier. You earn RP during the match from kills and your overall placement in a match. The maximum you can score in a match is 17 RP.All players start in Bronze, and you'll earn rewards at the end of the season. Respawn has said it is still determining what the rewards will be, but for now it knows it will be giving out special badges based on your highest rank achieved.Other Apex Legends Season 2 ChangesSeason 2 introduces a handful of other changes. King's Canyon itself will have landmarks destroyed by invading Flyers and Leviathans, making for a very different map. The L-Star Legendary Gold energy-based weapon has been added, paying homage to Titanfall 2. Check out a full wrap-up of Apex Legends Season 2 changes. Info from Gamespot.com

Over the few past years, Mike Flanagan has become one of the most prolific and successful directors in horror. The Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House was one of 2018's best shows, and his adaptation of Stephen King's Doctor Sleep is set to arrive in November. Flanagan has a Hill House sequel show on the way next year, and it's now been reported that he'll also produce a new horror series for Netflix titled Midnight Mass.According to Variety, Midnight Mass will be a seven-part show that focuses on an isolated island community that experiences strange and scary events when a mysterious priest arrives among them. Flanagan will direct the show and executively produce alongside his producing partner Trevor Macy. It does not currently have a release date, and no cast has been announced yet.Midnight Mass is part of a deal that Flanagan and Macy signed with Netflix in February. Flanagan is also making a follow-up to Hill House, titled The Haunting of Bly Manor, which is scheduled for a 2020 release. It will be based on Henry James' classic novella The Turn of the Screw--check out the first teaser here.Doctor Sleep will be Flanagan's second Stephen King adaptation, after 2017's Gerard's Game. Marvel's Spider-Man is nearly a year old, but Insomniac Games has issued yet another free update with a pair of costumes for the web-slinger. This time the fresh wardrobe change is to celebrate the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, hitting theaters today. The update adds the Upgraded Suit and Stealth Suit from Far From Home. The Upgraded Suit is Spidey's signature look in the new flick, with his usual red-and-blue color scheme. The Stealth Suit is an all-black iteration with headgear and buckles, as seen briefly in some of the trailers. The PS4 game offered a wide variety of suits paying homage to lots of Spider-Man comics from the start, but Insomniac has added quite a few more post-launch as well. Its series of DLC episodes added three suits apiece, but the studio also added free one based on the Sam Raimi films and a pair of suits based on Fantastic Four comics. This isn't the first time the game has paid homage to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it launched with the Iron Spider from Avengers: Infinity War and the Stark Suit from Homecoming. As for Far From Home, it bookends the last ten years of Marvel movies with a lighter epilogue after the world-changing events of Avengers: Endgame."[Far From Home is] full of heart and good intentions, clever, quick-witted, and confident enough to pull off some really insane reveals," Meg Downey wrote in GameSpot's review. "The parts that work, work very, very well. But the parts that don't tend to feel like stubbed toes or irritating splinters--not life-threatening by any means, but distracting at best and annoying at worst; like someone pulled the curtain back on the MCU's systemic shortcomings a little too far. Still, if you can ignore that--and it'll be easier for some than it is for others, depending on your relationship to the MCU at large--you're in for a pretty good ride." Info from Gamespot.com

The first trailer for Knives Out is here. It's the latest movie from Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, and is a star-studded murder mystery which is set to hit theaters in November. The movie stars Daniel Craig and Lakeith Stanfeld as a pair of cops investigating the murder of an elderly man (Christopher Plummer) during his birthday party in a large mansion. In classic whodunnit style, the killer could be any of the members of his dysfunctional family. It looks like huge fun, with plenty of humour and broad performances from the impressive cast. Check the trailer out below.Knives Out releases on November 29. The movie also stars Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, Katherine Langford, and Jaeden Martell. In related news, Johnson is still on board to direct a new trilogy of Star Wars movies. This was first announced back in 2017, and despite rumors he was no longer involved, in February Johnson confirmed it was still happening. We're unlikely to see his next Star Wars movie for some time however. After this December's Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, the next film in the series will arrive in 2022, directed by former Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.Info from Gamespot.com

When DC Universe original program Swamp Thing was canceled after its first episode aired, it was a surprising move to everyone who tuned in to watch the premiere. It wasn't just them, though. There were those working hard on the show that didn't see it coming, including showrunner Gary Dauberman.Speaking to GameSpot while promoting his new film Annabelle Comes Home, Dauberman said the cancellation was "a bit of a gut punch." He continued, "I am so proud of that show and what the crew and the cast pulled off because it marked the high point in leading the charge. That is not an easy thing to pull off."According to Dauberman, he and fellow showrunner Mark Verheiden worked hard to match the tone of the comics in bringing Swamp Thing to life. "The comic series is so exceptional, there's a reason why it's been around as long as it has and we wanted to give the characters respect," he explained. "And also, Mark and I went in, when we [were] writing the pilot, talking about the first season, we wanted to really be true to the spirit of the book."What would that have meant for future seasons? While Dauberman didn't go into specific stories he wanted to tackle, he had a general idea for the structure of the show going forward. "I was looking forward to telling a couple more self-contained stories, not self-contained itself, but like three arc stories too, coupled within the larger [mysteries]," he said. "Like a season-long mystery or engine, but also be able to explore some of those dark corners of the swamp where you get those, where it almost feels like a little bit like an anthology."While Dauberman said they weren't considering dipping into a "monster of the week" format, there were some monsters he wanted to explore; namely Swamp Thing stories that include werewolves and vampires. "We could have done so much that I'm sad that we're not going to be able to get to do in this incarnation, you know," he lamented. At least DC Universe will continue to air the 10-episode first season of the show before officially calling it quits. New episodes of Swamp Thing arrive on the service on Fridays. Anabelle Comes Home is in theaters now.Info from Gamespot.com

Since its release on Switch last June, Mario Tennis Aces has been receiving a steady stream of new playable characters and other updates, and now the final addition to the game's roster has arrived. Dry Bowser, the skeletal version of the Koopa king, is available in the game, as are new costumes for Wario and Waluigi.Dry Bowser is a defensive-class character and shares many similarities with his living counterpart. Everyone who participates in at least one match in the game's Online Tournament mode this month will unlock Dry Bowser immediately, while all other players will receive the character after August 1. You can take a look at him in action in the trailer below.Dry Bowser isn't the only incentive to play online this month. If you manage to rack up enough points in the Online Tournament, you'll unlock Wario and Waluigi's classic overalls as alternate costumes. If you didn't take part in the Online Tournament last month, you'll also now have access to the game's previous new character, Fire Piranha Plant. With the arrival of Dry Bowser, there are now 30 playable characters in Mario Tennis Aces, nearly double the size of the game's roster at launch. While many of these are returning from previous Mario Tennis games, Aces also introduced a number of characters who had never appeared in the series, including Chain Chomp, Boom Boom, Pauline, and Kamek.Mario Tennis Aces is available exclusively for Nintendo Switch. GameSpot awarded it a 7/10 in our Mario Tennis Aces review. Critic Justin Clark wrote, "The Tetris Effect is in full swing here; days after the credits rolled, I still crave the satisfying thwack from a Power Shot, mentally replay matches and imagine how I might do things differently given a bit more focus and know-how. Mario Tennis Aces does what this series has done best, and for the most part, improves what it's rarely gotten right prior."Info from Gamespot.com

We learned about Cuphead's The Delicious Last Course DLC during E3 2018, with a release scheduled for sometime in 2019. We're halfway through the year and indie developer StudioMDHR has provided another update on Cuphead's forthcoming DLC: it will now arrive sometime in 2020 for Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox One.The studio released a 30-second teaser trailer showing a "cornucupia" of new features, including playable character Ms. Chalice and her slick double jump, abilities to acquire and enemies to slaughter, and levels and environments ripe for exploration. And it's all still wrapped in that iconic 1903s art style. You can check out the teaser trailer below.Toward the end of 2018, StudioMDHR revealed that the acclaimed run-and-gun platformer surpassed 3 million units sold on Xbox One and PC. This was prior to making its Nintendo Switch debut in April 2019 with Xbox Live support, allowing players to unlock achievements while playing on the console-handheld hybrid. Cuphead is scheduled to launch for Tesla vehicles sometime this summer. In our Cuphead review, we said, "It's an intense action game that pulls no punches. It could benefit from a few tweaks, and two-player co-op doesn't feel like the valuable addition you might imagine, but Cuphead remains a rare, unique game that truly stands out."Info from Gamespot.com

Avengers: Endgame changed the face of the MCU in more than one way--but thankfully, its lack of a credits scene doesn't seem to be a trend. With Spider-Man: Far From Home the MCU has returned to its mid and post-credits stinger formula with a vengeance, providing us with some of the meatiest teases yet for things to come in the mysterious phase 4.If you couldn't already tell--there are a lot of spoilers to follow, so please tread carefully.Threat or Menace?Tom Holland's Peter Parker is surrounded by a relatively new supporting cast--he doesn't have a Gwen Stacy, and his Mary Jane isn't actually Mary Jane at all--but some side characters are just too big to change to omit entirely. Take J. Jonah Jameson, for instance--the head honcho of the Daily Bugle, who has been a featured part of Spider-Man films of days gone by, finally gets his MCU debut here in the mid-credits scene of Far From Home.Oh, and he's played by J.K. Simmons. Again. Some things really do never change. The major reveal happens after Peter and his classmates return from Europe safe and sound, only to learn that Mysterio had one final trick up his sleeve. He recorded the footage of his confrontation with Peter and edited it to make Peter look like the mastermind behind the attack who murdered Beck in cold blood. And then, just to really nail that coffin lid shut, he revealed Peter's secret identity and sent the whole package to the Daily Bugle for broadcast. That's right: Not only did Jameson and the Bugle air a story to make Spider-Man look like a psychotic killer, the tape also outed Peter Parker to the world. And all Peter could do was watch helplessly as the footage played on a jumbotron in the middle of New York City. The real question is what happens next. Historically, identity reveals haven't gone very smoothly for Peter. Back in Civil War (the comics event, not the movie), Peter was encouraged by Tony to go public as the face of superhero registration. He wound up regretting it so hard that he ultimately went to Mephisto, an incarnation of the devil, to have it undone in a story called One More Day which effectively magically reset Peter's status quo entirely, including erasing some of his long term relationships (and marriage to Mary Jane.)Now, the MCU doesn't have a Mephisto (at least, that we know of) so that particular storyline probably won't make a one-to-one jump from page to screen. However, Peter Parker is one of Marvel's few superheroes who heavily rely on having a secret identity--which makes the next logical step for Peter's MCU a focus on that particular problem. He doesn't have to make a deal with the literal devil (though that would definitely be cool to see) but priority number one for our dear old Spider-Man come phase 4 is going to be putting that genie back into the bottle.Perhaps even more interesting is the potential fallout around Jameson and Peter. Though the two have no working relationship in the MCU--Peter's way too young to become a crack photographer for a newspaper--one of Jameson's biggest "redeeming" qualities (if you could call them that) was the fact that, as far as he's ever been concerned, his hatred for Spider-Man has been aimed at a full grown adult. In this particular turn of events, however, Jameson publicly announces that Spider-Man is a teenager with all the gusto and bravado you'd expect from J.J.J.--something that adds a whole extra layer of cruelty and danger to the mix. Which begs the question: Is Jameson really just evil and deluded enough to want to ruin some kid's life? Or does he actually believe Mysterio's lies? That will inevitably be the major challenge for Peter going into Phase 4. Not only does he somehow have to regain his secret identity, but he also has to convince the world that Spider-Man isn't a murderous villain. No pressure. The Man On The WallThe major revelations didn't stop there. The second post-credits scene features Maria Hill and Nick Fury as they leave the scene of Mysterio's major disaster--or, well, sort of at least. It turns out that the Maria and Fury we've been with for this movie aren't actually Maria and Fury at all--they're Skrulls (Talos and his wife Soren from Captain Marvel, to be exact). It turns out that Fury has actually been off-world this whole time with a full-on Skrull army based out of a space station, and he sent Talos to fill in for him while he caught up on a bit of a vacation.Of course, this asks way more questions than it answers: Just how long has Fury been working with the Skrulls? Since the '90s? Pre-Avengers? Has Talos really been dipping in and out of Earth since Captain Marvel? What are the Skrulls doing working with Fury? What's the goal? There's a throwaway line from Talos-Fury in the movie about "Kree sleeper cells" which might be some indication of their mission, but there's no way to know if that's the whole story or not.The situation vaguely echoes one of Nick's many comic book storylines, when he worked as "The Man On The Wall," a sort of intergalactic protector of Earth from outer space. The duties weren't always the clearest or the most moral--as part of his job Nick often found himself making the tough choices and involving both himself and his operatives in less-than-ideal situations. But ultimately, as far as he was concerned, it was for the betterment of mankind.Fury's stint as The Man On The Wall was formally introduced and ended after an event called Original Sin, which involved Fury's conditional immortality (don't worry too much about that) finally giving up. Bucky Barnes briefly took over in his stead--though it's pretty doubtful we'll see anything like that happen in the MCU, at least in the foreseeable future. Bucky will be busy running around with Sam Wilson on their Disney+ mini-series.Meanwhile, Fury and his Skrull colleagues are likely to crop back up in the MCU relatively soon. It seems like we're heading for a full-on Kree/Skrull war (though, one that will be significantly different from the comics event of the same name) in Phase 4. So, even if he's not a featured part of the plot, we can probably expect to see Fury, Talos, and company skulking around somewhere very soon. Info from Gamespot.com
