The 2016 Warcraft movie from director Duncan Jones made more than $433 million worldwide, but despite that huge box office number, it appears the sequels that Jones wanted to make are not going to happen--and there are a number of reasons why that is. Jones told Collider that he would have "loved" to make two more movies to complete the trilogy, but it's looking unlikely that the follow-ups will be made. Despite that, Jones said he thinks Warcraft is being appreciated more and more now, as time goes on."It really would have been pretty special," he said of his plans for a trilogy. "It's unfortunate now, you gotta try and go with your harp on these things. I made the film as best I could on the first film hoping that it would connect with an audience. I genuinely think that in retrospect and as time has moved on, people are starting to appreciate the film than maybe the critics did when it first came out but unfortunately I don't think we're going to get to make any more."Jones said this three-film arc for Warcraft would have included further storytelling for Gul'dan and Thrall, and on a wider level, how the orcs left their home world to live in Azeroth. Also in the interview, Jones spoke about the challenging nature of working with so many different stakeholders to get Warcraft made."It was an absolute… The essence of studio filmmaking," he said. "I got a chance to experience multiple studios takes on what a film of this size should be on one movie because it was originally. Originally, we were Warner Brothers, I was working with Atlas, I was working with Universal. It was working with Legendary, I was working with Blizzard and obviously Blizzard were very passionate about what film should be because they are who had been with the game for so long and they didn’t want to detract from that. So there were more points as to what the film needed to be. And then Legendary was bought by Wanda while we were making the movie. So it was a unique moment in time for experiencing what kind of craziness studio filmmaking could be."Warcraft only made $47.4 million in the US and Canada, but it made $386.3 million--or 89.1 percent of its total box office revenue--from overseas markets. China accounted for a massive $213.5 million of the movie's international grosses. On a worldwide basis, Warcraft is the 258th biggest movie ever, ahead of Detective Pikachu and numerous other franchise movies.Warcraft had a reported budget of $160 million, so $433 million in worldwide grosses sounds like a success story. However, as ScreenRant points out, Hollywood studios only make about 25 percent of a film's gross in China, so Warcraft's $213.5 million in China netted Legendary only $53.4 million. In America, a film studio typically takes home around 50 percent off the box office. Using that math, ScreenRant estimates that Warcraft actually only made $145 million, which is below its reported production budget; and this number doesn't even count marketing expenses. Looking at the numbers through that light, it's not hard to understand why the Warcraft sequels aren't coming.Warcraft stars Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Robert Kazinsky, Clancy Brown, and Daniel Wu.As for Jones, he went on to release the low-budget sci-fi movie Mute for Netflix in 2018. It is in the same universe as his 2009 breakout hit Moon starring Sam Rockwell. Jones had said he had plans for a third movie in that connected universe, but for now, it's only a graphic novel. ""It's going to be a tricky one to finance in this era where original material on a bigger budget is difficult to get made, so I definitely want to do the graphic novel so at least it will exist in some form," he told Polygon. "Then, hopefully, if people read the graphic novel and get really excited about it, I’m gonna try and use that as a way to leverage getting the movie made." Info from Gamespot.com

One Direction singer Harry Styles is in talks to play Prince Eric in Disney's new live-action Little Mermaid, according to Variety. The site reports that he's in "early negotiations" for the role. It's unclear what other actors might be in talks to play Prince Eric, or when a final casting decision will be made. What we do know is that Halle Bailey will play Ariel. Melissa McCarthy is set to portray the evil Ursula. According to Variety writer Justin Kroll, discussions with Styles are "very early." Kroll said it's possible that Styles "may still be on the fence" about joining the movie.Getting word now this is VERY early and Styles still may be on the fence. Stay Tuned. https://t.co/sTKwysNJwt — Justin Kroll (@krolljvar) July 16, 2019The new Little Mermaid is directed by frequent Disney director Rob Marshall, who previously directed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Into the Woods, and Mary Poppins Returns. The film will use songs from the 1989 original movie, along with new ones from Disney legend Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. It was recently reported that Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) and Jacob Tremblay (Room) are in discussions to play Scuttle and Flounder, respectively. This has yet to be confirmed, however. As for Styles, he appeared in Christopher Nolan's war movie Dunkirk. He reportedly tested for Elvis in Baz Luhrmann's biopic, but the role ultimately went to Austin Butler.Variety's writer, Justin Kroll, said Styles was "the choice" for Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid for "a while," but things got complicated when he tested for Elivs. "Styles was the choice for awhile but there were rumblings he was expected to pass, in hopes he would get Elvis instead," Kroll said. "Sounds like he smartly held the offer until the ELVIS decision was made and went with his next option."Prince Eric had no songs in the 1989 Little Mermaid, but casting someone like Styles--who has singing chops--suggests the live-action movie may change that. In the 2000s Broadway version of The Little Mermaid, Eric has multiple songs. The live-action Little Mermaid is expected to begin production in 2020. Disney's next live-action reboot is The Lion King, which opens this week. Info from Gamespot.com

EA Sports has released the first gameplay video for NHL 20, and it showcases the range of updates and improvements that the developer has made to the annualized ice hockey game. The focus of the new gameplay trailer is what EA Sports is calling Real Player Motion 2.0, which helps NHL 20 become the most realistic NHL game ever, according to gameplay producer Ben Ross. The first part of this is the new Signature Shots, which are replications of the shot-styles of famous NHL players. For example, P.K. Subban's powerful slapshot is now in the game, while Alexander Ovechkin's effortless one-timer is included as well. Outside of the Signature Shots (of which there are 18 in all), NHL 20 adds more than 45 new "contextual" shot animations so players take more realistic-looking shots depending on the scenario they're in. In addition, RPM Tech for NHL 20 addresses puck pick-ups and passing. Players can now catch passes and continue in stride more fluidly, while players can also whip passes without slowing down. This all helps the game feel more fluid, EA Sports says. Changes have also been made to goalie AI. In NHL 19, goalies didn't always cover or protect rebounds when they probably should have, leading to cheap goals. But in NHL 20, goalies are smarter and more capable; they're now smarter about positioning and make better choices regarding controlled saves and redirects. In total, EA Sports added more than 450 new animations for goalies. Check out the video above to see the new NHL 20 gameplay changes in action, while you can also read this in-depth blog post to learn more.NHL 20 launches in September for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews is on the cover. The game also brings back the pond hockey mode from NHL 19, while it also has its own unique spin on battle royale. In addition, NHL 20 makes a major change for the commentary and broadcast package.Info from Gamespot.com

The Amazon Prime Day 2019 deals are live and one of the best we've seen is for Pokemon Let's Go, Eevee. That's the Nintendo Switch Pokemon game that serves as a kind of remake of Pokemon Yellow, first released on Game Boy in 1998. For longtime fans of the Pokemon franchise, Let's Go is a comforting trip down memory lane, and for newcomers, it's a focused way to delve into the world of catching and battling the adorable little critters. It also syncs with Pokemon Go, so you can bring your Pokemon from the mobile game into the Switch title.Amazon is currently offering Pokemon: Let's Go, Eevee for $30 as part of the Prime Day sale. If you're really set on getting the Pikachu variant, Amazon has Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu priced at $45, which is a bit more than the Eevee version but you're still saving about $15 on the usual price.See Pokemon: Let's Go, Eevee on AmazonIn GameSpot's Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee/Pikachu review, Jake Dekker described the games "delightful reimaginings of the series' origins and a deep RPG in their own right." He continued: "It makes a lot of smart improvements on the original Red, Blue, and Yellow while holding on to what made them so special in the first place. Fans of the series might be let down by the lack of features they've come to expect, but Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee take the Pokemon formula in some exciting new directions."Pokemon fans can look forward to another adventure on Switch later this year. Nintendo has confirmed Pokemon: Sword and Pokemon Shield's release dates as November 15. Super Mario Maker 2 has kept its place atop the UK all-format physical sales chart, according to sales monitor Chart-Track. The Nintendo Switch exclusive has now been at No.1 for three consecutive weeks, and it stays ahead of an otherwise largely unchanged top 10.Three racing games follow Super Mario Maker 2, with Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled at No.2, F1 2019 at No.3, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The week ending July 13 did see one new release enter the top 10, as Dragon Quest Builders 2 debuts at No.5. That did, however, launch on Friday, July 12, so had less time to make an impact than games already available. The only other new entry anywhere in the chart is the physical launch of Hollow Knight on PS4 and Switch, which finishes at No.34.Super Mario Maker 2 is another great addition to the Switch's library of exclusive games, according to our critic, Peter Brown. "The Mario series is worth all the admiration it gets, and Super Mario Maker 2 is an excellent tool for picking it apart by pushing its enemies, mechanisms, and Mario, to their limit," he said. "I've yet to make a stage of my own that I think is worthy of sending out to other players, but I'm committed to getting there. Whether exploring the full potential of a single element or throwing things at the wall to see what sticks, I've got the itch to join the creator's club."Mario Maker 2 makes the learning process intuitive and enjoyable. Most importantly, it's enabled designers amateur and professional alike to share their creativity with the world. The community is off to a great start, and thankfully, the fun has only just begun." If you're in the market to buy a PlayStation 4 and aren't particularly fussy about making sure you get the PS4 Pro and its 4K gaming capabilities, you'll find a pretty good deal on the PS4 Slim as part of the annual Amazon Prime Day sale. Along with the console itself, you'll pick up two of the platform's most critically-acclaimed games: Marvel's Spider-Man and Horizon Zero Dawn. The package is currently available for $250 on Amazon with free shipping. At this price you'd be saving around $100, which is a nice chunk of cash that you can put to better use elsewhere. It's worth noting that Marvel's Spider-Man will be delivered as a digital code, so you'll have to download the game via the internet. Horizon Zero Dawn, meanwhile, is a physical version of the Complete Edition, which includes all the DLC and expansions that were made available post-release.See PS4, Spider-Man, Horizon Bundle On AmazonIn our Spider-Man PS4 review Ed Tran awarded the game 9/10. "Minor shortcomings don't detract from Insomniac's achievement in creating a game that feels like an authentic interpretation of a beloved creation," he said. "The feeling of embodying Spidey and using his abilities is astonishing, and the time spent on exploring its major characters help make its story feel heartfelt, despite superhero bombast."There have been open-world Spider-Man games before, but none so riveting and full of personality, none that explore and do justice to this many facets of the universe. Insomniac has created a superior Spider-Man experience that leaves a lasting impression, one that has you longing for just one more swing around New York City, even after the credits roll."Horizon Zero Dawn also received praise from us. "This is the first departure from the Killzone series for developer Guerrilla Games, and though you might think the team took a risk by stepping out of its FPS comfort zone to create a third-person open-world action game, you'd never know it was their first rodeo," said Peter Brown in his Horizon Zero Dawn review."For every minor imperfection, there's an element of greatness that recharges your desire to keep fighting and exploring Zero Dawn's beautiful and perilous world. Guerrilla Games has delivered one of the best open-world games of this generation, and redefined its team's reputation in the process."There are sure to be plenty more discounts over the course of the next couple of days. Kingdom Hearts 3 was one of the first blockbuster releases of the year, arriving with a big splash on PS4 and Xbox One in January. It brought an end to an epic, sweeping saga that began on the PlayStation 2 to bring Square Enix and Disney's most iconic properties together--and Kingdom Hearts 3 turned out to be an impressive spectacle to behold. If you haven't seen and played the most recent game in the series for yourself, and are interested in hopping around beautiful DIsney worlds, Amazon's Prime Day sale might be the most cost-effective way to do so.Kingdom Hearts 3 is currently on sale as part of the promotion for just $20 on both the PS4 and Xbox One, which is a saving of around $40. It's a pretty meaty game, taking around 40 hours to complete the main story and some of the extra side-missions and activities--plenty of bang for your buck. Note that this deal is only available to Amazon Prime customers.See Kingdom Hearts 3 On Amazon GameSpot's Kingdom Hearts 3 review awarded the game 8/10 and praised the "beautifully realized" worlds, the "engaging and memorable stories," and "simple, slick, and super exciting" combat. "Kingdom Hearts 3 is preoccupied with fan service to a fault, and it also struggles to stay coherent under the weight of its own convoluted lore," reads the review. "But it's also everything fans love about the series: a thrilling action-RPG that celebrates Disney and Pixar, all the while ensuring themes of friendship, heroism, and pure-hearted goodness shine bright."If you need a PS4 to actually play the game, Amazon has a pretty good deal that includes the Slim version of the console with Spider-Man and Horizon Zero Dawn, two of the console's most acclaimed games. Need a new PS4 controller? Good news: Amazon's Prime Day sale is offering controllers for about $20 off their usual price, depending on which color you want. Peripherals don't tend to go on sale very often, so this is one of the few opportunities you'll get to grab new or extra controllers without taking a serious hit to your wallet. The red version is available for $45, while the blue, black, and gold DualShock 4 wireless controllers are being listed for $47 on Amazon. The camo print in green, meanwhile, is going for $50 and $60 in blue. These will be the updated version of the controller released around the same time as the PS4 Pro, which means the touchpad is curved over the top of the controller a little, making it easier to hit without using your thumbs. Other than that, the controller is largely the same, solid PlayStation pad.DualShock 4 Amazon Prime Day SaleDualShock 4 (Red) -- $45DualShock 4 (Blue) -- $47DualShock 4 (Black) -- $47DualShock 4 (Gold) -- $47DualShock 4 (Camo Green) -- $50DualShock 4 (Camo Blue) -- $55If you're in the market for Switch controllers too, the Prime Day sale has discounted Joy-Cons. Sekiro: Shadow's Die Twice is one of 2019's best games. It takes From Software's distinct brand of challenging gameplay and adds new dimensions, requiring a new brand of skill in order to succeed. Admittedly, like all of From's games, Sekiro is the type that isn't for everyone--you'll need to undertake an uphill struggle to earn those moments of unparalleled satisfaction, so perhaps not one for a chill evening of gaming. But if working hard for your sweet victory sounds like the kind of thing you're up for, Amazon's Prime Day sale has Sekiro for a few dollars off.The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice are available for $48, which is around $12 cheaper than the normal retail price. Admittedly, it's not a massive discount, but it's a very fair asking price for one of the most acclaimed video games of the year so far. It's sure to appear in more than a few Game of the Year lists towards the end of 2019.See Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice On AmazonIn GameSpot's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice review the game was awarded a 9/10. "The orchestration of intense one-on-one boss encounters that truly test your mettle, and slower-paced stealth sections that let you take on battles at your own pace, is masterful," reads the review."More so than in previous games, From Software has honed in on the inherent tension found in the challenging nature of its games, and uses it to incredible effect. Sekiro marries the developer's unique brand of gameplay with stealth action to deliver an experience that is as challenging as it is gratifying."There's sure to be plenty of excellent deals over the course of the two-day sale, and you can track them all using our Amazon Prime Day hub. Ubisoft's The Division 2 is a solid live-service game if you've got a few friends. It offers some exciting shooting and a whole lot of multiplayer content to work your way through--along with plenty of colored loot to chase. As part of Amazon's Prime Day 2019 sale, both the Xbox One and PS4 versions of The Division 2 are available for $20. That's cheap enough that you could convince a few friends to take a shot on it along with you. This is the standard version of the game, but Ubisoft has been supporting it heavily since launch. This means that, if you like what you play in the base game, there's more content for you to check out should you wish to continue gunning your way to helping society rebuild itself. Ubisoft detailed its plans for the game's second year of content at E3 2019.See The Division 2 On AmazonIn his The Division 2 review, Ed Tran said, although the narrative underpinning the game is lacking, "the strength of the systems and design that fuel The Division 2 as a game are compelling enough to keep you captivated for dozens [of hours]. The range of enemy types continues to keep combat encounters challenging, the equipment I earn and pick up continues to feel different, valuable, and asks me to consider new ways of play."The ravaged environments continue to intrigue, and sometimes they're so stunning I find myself needing to take screenshots before I move on. It might not have much to say, but The Division 2 is a perpetual cycle of tension, relief, and reward that's difficult to stay away from."For more deals, check out our Amazon Prime Day hub. Let's be honest, the PlayStation Classic wasn't received very well. Unlike the NES and SNES Classics that it aimed to copy the success of, Sony's little nostalgia machine wasn't as slick from a usability perspective, its emulation was questionable, and it lacked some important features. At its original asking price of $100, it wasn't a smart purchase and would likely have left you a bit disappointed. But Amazon Prime Day is here, and that means the continuous decline in sale prices on the PS Classic we've seen in recent months go even further--you can buy one for a mere $20 right now, arguably making it one of Prime Day's best deals.Although the ongoing event is known as Amazon Prime Day, it's not the only retailer offering steep discounts on a wide range of items. The PS Classic is among the pieces of gaming hardware you'll find on sale at multiple stores in the US, and right now it can be had for $20 on Amazon, Target, and Best Buy.PlayStation Classic SaleAmazon -- $20Target -- $20Best Buy -- $20Included in the box is a very small version of the PlayStation and two USB controllers--the price almost makes it worth getting for those controllers alone. Bond 25 will introduce us to a new 007, according to the Mail on Sunday. The film will apparently include Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel, Still Star-Crossed) playing a new 007 agent, after Daniel Craig's James Bond is seen enjoying retirement in Jamaica.A "movie insider" told the Mail: "There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, 'Come in, 007,' and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful, and a woman. It's a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he's been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman."The insider continued: "'Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don't work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed. Well, certainly not at the beginning."The source went on to say the term "Bond girls" is now forbidden on set; production staff have been told they are to instead use "Bond women."Bond 25's changes are being partly attributed to Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve), who has been brought on board to help write the movie and to modernize the franchise. The Mail's source concluded by saying: "Lashana is absolutely brilliant and Phoebe's script is as sharp and funny as you would expect. This Bond pays tribute to some of the earlier films with a lot of humor."This is a Bond for the modern era who will appeal to a younger generation while sticking true to what we all expect in a Bond film. There are spectacular chase sequences and fights, and Bond is still Bond but he's having to learn to deal with the world of #MeToo."Waller-Bridge has previously explained her view that the Bond franchise needs to move with the times. "There's been a lot of talk about whether or not [the Bond franchise] is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women," Waller-Bridge told Deadline. "I think that's bollocks. I think he's absolutely relevant now. It has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn't have to. He needs to be true to this character."This latest leak follows another recent revelation that Christoph Waltz will reprise his role as Blofeld in Bond 25. The actor was reportedly spotted at Pinewood Studios in London, before putting his fingers to his lips and saying: "You haven't seen me. I'm not here."Bond 25 is still untitled, but its release date is set for April 3, 2020.Info from Gamespot.com

The first trailer for The King's Man is here. This is the third movie in the Kingsman series--it's a prequel exploring the origins of the franchise's secretive spy organization, and it releases in February 2020.The trailer establishes the movie's setting--Britain in the early 20th century--and starts with a scene on a First World War battlefield. Ralph Fiennes provides the voiceover, explaining that true power comes from "understanding who it is you are truly fighting." We then see young star Harris Dickinson, who has been recruited to the organization and looks set to embark on a series of dangerous adventures. The movie might be set many decades before its predecessors, but it's clearly part of the same world and looks every bit as spectacular. Check the trailer out below. The King's Man has an impressive cast that also includes Liam Neeson, Daniel Bruhl, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Matthew Goode, and Stanley Tucci. Like the previous films it's directed by Matthew Vaughn and releases on February 14, 2020.Although The King's Man will introduce a new group of characters, there is also a fourth film in the works that will return to the modern storyline of the series. There is no set release date for that one, but Vaughn recently told Digital Spy that he hoped to start shooting it "later this year or the beginning of next year."The Kingsman: The Secret Service was released in 2015 and made more than $414 million at the worldwide box office, while 2017's Kingsman: The Golden Circle made $410 million.Info from Gamespot.com
