It will soon be two years since the DC flop Justice League hit theaters, but some fans are still desperate to see the so-called "Snyder Cut" of the film. Director Zack Snyder left the movie during the production, and ever since then have been rumors that he turned in a superior version before his exit. Now some fans have taken their campaign to the skies during San Diego Comic-Con.A small plane was spotted flying above the convention, trailing a banner behind it that reads "WB #ReleasetheSnyderCut of Justice League." According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plane and sign were hired from the San Diego company FlySigns by "a private citizen," and will have cost $1,170. It was also pictured and tweeted by THR's Patrick Shanley--check it out below:Slightly better shot (please appreciate what taking this picture did to my eyeballs)Banner reads: "WB #ReleaseTheSnyderCut of Justice League" pic.twitter.com/0nYPBTSNyk — Patrick Shanley (@pshanley88) July 19, 2019The banner follows a series of "Snyder Cut" billboards and posters that were spotted around San Diego in the build-up to Comic-Con. Snyder left Justice League in May 2017, following a family tragedy. Although he had completed principal photography, Avengers director Joss Whedon was brought in to oversee extensive rewrites and reshoots, as well as post-production.There have been many rumors that Snyder had screened a version of Justice League to Warner executives before his departure, but it's unclear in what state that cut was in. Snyder himself recently stated that "there is a cut," while last month storyboard artist Jay Olivia revealed there were "multiple cuts of Zack's film." But in any case, the movie is owned by Warner, and to date the studio has not commented on the issue. The DC movie universe is absent from this year's SDCC. However, the studio's TV output features extensively, including panels focusing on The CW's range of DC shows, and an event showcasing some of DC Universe's upcoming series. Overwatch has begun to tease something new for the game and, given the timing and the nature of the tease, we expect it's for the next hero to join the roster. The tease comes in the form of a video which, initially, looks like it's going to be another developer update from game director Jeff Kaplan. However, Kaplan is sucked through a dimensional rift or black hole of some sort. Then a bunch of formulae and equations appear on the screen, in case you need it made extra-clear that weird physics stuff is happening. In this quick Developer Update, Game Director Jeff Kaplan goes into detail about the upcoming…+ ⋜ π ⩲ 🎶 + ≠ pic.twitter.com/adRWRf6VuW — Overwatch (@PlayOverwatch) July 20, 2019If this is a hero, it will be the 31st character on the Overwatch roster. It would also be the first addition since Baptiste in March, continuing the trend of rolling out a new hero every 3-4 months. This is coming just as the game is holding its annual Summer Games event, which once again offers special challenges and exclusive skins. The first Summer Games was themed after the Olympics, but since then it has become a yearly tradition with Overwatch characters sporting their finest summer duds.Meanwhile, Blizzard has just rolled out a massive change to its matchmaking system on the public test realm with the addition of a Role Queue. The revised system has you pick from one of the three major team roles--tank, support, or damage--and then you'll be matched into a team with two of each type. The studio says it hopes this helps team composition and lets players stick with the type of role they like best. This also introduces some new changes to how skill ratings and leaderboards are handled. It's in testing now, with a wider beta planned to start on August 13.Info from Gamespot.com

The Star Trek franchise is full of series' that introduce and flesh out legendary characters, but usually, those series come to their ends and we never see most of the characters again. Occasionally those influential commanding officers get off-hand mentions in future Star Trek runs--but Patrick Stewart's Captain Jean-Luc Picard is breaking the mold with Star Trek: Picard, a new series that delves back into the life of the Star Trek: The Next Generation captain. The series will appear on CBS's streaming service, CBS All Access, but a lot of details are still pretty hazy about the story the show will tell. San Diego Comic-Con 2019 attendees got a few additional hints and looks into Captain Picard's life and career, and there's a lot of peripheral information that gives a sense of where the series might go. Here's everything we've learned about Picard and what we expect from the show based on its first few teasers.First Picard Trailer Takes Jean-Luc Out Of The VineyardComic-Con finally brought the first real Picard trailer, and it sets up the story and shows that Jean-Luc won't be spending all his time in the vineyard. It also showcases many of the returning characters and elements from The Next Generation, including the Borg.Returning The Next Generation CharactersThose returning Next Generation characters aren't just minor ones. Among those coming back are some of the key players from TNG, including:Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard (obviously)Brent Spiner as DataJonathan Frakes as William RikerJeri Ryan as Borg's Seven of NineMarina Sirtis as Counselor Deanna TroiA Look At The First DutyAs Cait Petrakovitz from GameSpot sister site CNET detailed, Comic-Con is home to a Picard exhibit that looks into the biography and career of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D captain. The @StarTrek Museum‘s Picard exhibit this year is incredibly detailed. Many of the uniforms are originals and some of the props are recognizable classics #StarTrekSDCC pic.twitter.com/3h65P2i7Ju — cait petrakovitz 🦹🏽‍♀️➡️#SDCC (@misscp) July 18, 2019Most of the items and information in the museum are things fans will recognize from The Next Generation, but looking into Picard the man is sure to provide some helpful context for the next phase of his life when the series kicks off. It's Set After Captain Picard's RetirementA central focus of everything we've seen so far for the show is a vineyard. Though we last left Captain Picard when he was still a member of Starfleet, we know from a time skip in the finale episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation that Picard's retirement eventually finds him taking care of his family's vineyard in France. It seems that's where we find him in the show, but the circumstances of what led Picard to choose a farming life over his Starfleet commission are still mysterious. The First Teaser Suggests Things Ended Badly For Captain PicardThe first teaser trailer for Picard, released on May 23, provides a little more context to how one of Starfleet's most celebrated leaders left the space exploration life. Voice-over narration provides some hints, while leaving quite a bit of mystery. Watch the teaser below. The narrator is a member of a group of people who were in some unexplained dire straits some 15 years before the start of the series. Picard, an admiral at the time, led the largest rescue armada in Federation history in order to save those people--and from the sounds of things, they revere him for it. But it seems something horrible also happened during the mission, and that's the event that sent Picard into retirement. The Captain Has A Very Good First MateCBS All Access revealed a Picard poster on July 10, letting slip another important detail about the admiral's retirement life: he has a dog.The official #StarTrekPicard key art is here. Will you be joining @SirPatStew at @Comic_Con next week? #SDCC #StarTrekSDCC pic.twitter.com/sf7ZnDmXlL — Star Trek on CBS All Access (@startrekcbs) July 10, 2019The inclusion of what appears to be a pitbull as Picard's new No. 1 is also a nod to Stewart's real-life work of fostering and helping rescue dogs.Who's Behind The ScenesWe know Stewart is serving as an executive producer on Picard, which makes sense, given he played the role for more than a decade. Star Trek: Discovery creator Alex Kurtzman is also an executive producer on the show. Novelist and screenwriter Michael Chabon is on board as Picard's showrunner, and Hanelle Culpepper is directing the premiere episode--which will make her the first woman director to launch a new Star Trek series.Longtime Star Trek director Jonathan Frakes, who helmed the TNG movies Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Insurrection, is around to direct some episodes of the series as well. Frakes also played Picard's first officer on the Enterprise, William Riker, for the entire run of the series and its four follow-up films, so it seems very likely Frakes will reprise the role on Picard in some capacity.Where We Last Left Jean-Luc PicardStewart originated the role of Captain Picard way back in 1987 with the launch of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The series ran until 1994, and was followed-up with four movies featuring the same crew: Star Trek: Generations, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Star Trek: Nemesis. That last movie came out in 2002, and found Picard battling a cloned version of himself raised in horrific conditions by Romulans, with the plan of using the clone to place a spy in Starfleet. That clone, Shinzon, instead led a military coup against the Romulan Empire, and while he initially makes overtures to diplomatic relations with the Federation, Picard later discovers Shinzon means to invade and use his ship to wipe out all life on Earth. Picard manages to stop Shinzon, but the movie serves as an interesting examination of Picard's character as he wonders about how he might have turned out differently as a person if he'd faced the hardships that Shinzon did.At the time, Picard was still a captain, having refused promotions because of his desire to be an explorer. We know he eventually becomes an admiral, so there's a lot more to learn about Picard between where we last saw him in Nemesis. When Can You Watch? There's no hard-and-fast release date for Picard, but we know it's coming to CBS All Access sometime in 2019.Info from Gamespot.com

With the impending arrival of Batwoman, The CW isn't holding back when it comes to bringing out the big guns. During the show's inaugural San Diego Comic-Con panel, two major names were revealed as being integrated into the series.First and foremost, it was announced that Burt Ward, the iconic actor who played Robin on the original Batman TV series, will appear in the Crisis on Infinite Earths five-part crossover this season. While it wasn't confirmed he would be appearing as the Boy Wonder, it's worth noting that Legends of Tomorrow star Brandon Routh will appear as a version of Superman. So it sounds like Ward's Robin may pop up somehow.Another major reveal was that Season 1 will see the introduction of Tommy Elliot, who Batman fans know as the alter ego of the villain Hush. Based on what showrunner Caroline Dries said, it sounds like viewers will see the origin of the character. For those that don't follow the comics, Elliot was a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne who ultimately killed his abusive father before eventually becoming the masked killer known as Hush.Dries also noted that Batwoman will not be recycling villains from elsewhere in the Arrow-verse, but will instead dig deep into the library of baddies from the Batman and Batwoman comics. As for whether Batman himself will make a substantial appearance, Dries claimed "anything is possible."That said, executive producer Sarah Schecter pointed out that in the beginning, at least, the focus is entirely on Kate and her story, much like the first seasons of Supergirl were about Kara's (Melissa Benoist) journey. It's worth pointing out, though, that Supergirl did introduce Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) so anything truly is possible.Batwoman premieres October 6 on The CW. Info from Gamespot.com

As expected, the countdowns in Fortnite: Battle Royale that we saw pop up recently were leading to a fight between a giant mech robot and a huge monster. The live event took place on the afternoon of Saturday, July 20, and the robot has emerged victorious--an event that brings with it a few changes, as you can see in the video above.Season 9's story has involved the potential emergence of a monster, and so the robot was essentially built in preparation. The monster showed up during today's event, with the mech activating in response. The two squared off across the island, with the mech losing an arm at one point. The two tried to break into the Loot Lake vault, but despite being down an arm, the robot was successful in doing so; this caused a sort of orb to appear that gave it the strength to stagger the monster.Having bought some extra time, the robot was able to pull a large sword out of the ground (its hilt was actually a statue at Neo Tilted pond) and stuck it right through the monster's head. The robot then flew off (having flossed and saluted onlookers), leaving behind both the monster and sword as new elements on the map.Just before "The Big Showdown," as Epic refers to it, took place, the developer disabled all game modes to ensure this was showcased. Players who were online at the time of the event were able to watch all of this action unfold with the help of jetpacks, which helped make it easier to take it all in. They were not active participants, however; this was purely a battle between the two giants. What exactly this portends for Season 10 is unclear, but it was nonetheless cool to see--watch a replay of the event above. Info from Gamespot.com

During the Star Trek panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Star Trek Discovery creator Alex Kurtzman provided some new information about the show's upcoming third season. Discovery kicked off the panel and Kurtzman confirmed that the show will take a "radical jump 1000 years into the future."This leap of time, he noted, was further than any Star Trek has gone before. As such, the show will introduce numerous changes. There will be "things you recognize, things you don't recognize," Kurtzman said. "We get to honor canon, but shake it up quite a bit. It's still Star Trek, and it will always be Star Trek the way Roddenberry wanted it."Continuing, David Ajala was introduced and confirmed to be playing a new character, Cleveland Booker, nicknamed Book. He's a character that is described as written to "break the rules a little bit." Ajala added: "And we do break the rules at the start of the season." Book is also said to be someone you don't initially expect. The crowd was then shown a photo of Book and Burnham, the protagonist of Discovery played by Sonequa Martin-Green, wearing long coats standing by the water. The photo was taken in Iceland. Martin-Green stated, "We go to the deepest level of Discovery in Season 3 because we're in this new place together. We have to figure out where we are and who we are. It's exciting."Kurtzman continued, "They (the discovery crew) choose each other for eternity and leave their families behind. People you’ve met will take center stage, there will be a ton of new characters. The thing that defines Trek is that it’s always about the little, always about the humans, the interspecial interaction. Our focus is on what does it mean and what does it do for the characters?"One key question is who will be captain, and that's a subject left intentionally unanswered during the panel.Expect quite a bit more on Star Trek, including details on Picard. During SDCC 2019, a new trailer for the upcoming Watchmen HBO series was released. The trailer further details the escalating conflict that will take center stage in the show: A world set after the events of the legendary comic series where police have elected to wear masks like vigilantes following a coordinated attack on cops everywhere--what's the difference between a masked policeman and a dangerous vigilante, though? That's the rub. The trailer also takes time to flesh out the motivations of some of the key characters, some more familiar for fans of the comics than others. You can watch the new San Diego Comic-Con trailer above.Based on the comic of the same name, Watchmen takes place in an alternate version of the US in which vigilantes rose to prominence and then quickly became outlawed after billionaire "philanthropist" Adrien Veidt staged a catastrophic attack on New York City to prompt a sort of unification of the world in shared terror of extraterrestrial threats. Seriously, there's a giant squid and everything--it's just as crazy as it sounds. In the show, however, costumed heroes as criminals and the police have stepped into their place, wearing masks and bending laws and reigning terror down on the people they're supposed to be protecting. Superheroes may still exist in this new status quo, however--several characters from the comics are featured in the trailer, including Hooded Justice and the omnipotent blue Doctor Manhattan, who moved to Mars during the events of the comics and apparently remains there.Watchmen has always been, at its core, an exploration of the "reality" of a society populated with vigilantes--superpowered or otherwise, and a text looking to question the ability of anyone to engage in violent actions with little accountability. The trailer suggests that tone will be maintained, though from a completely different angle. Airing on HBO, Watchmen will debut in October 2019.Info from Gamespot.com

Before the release of Star Trek: Discovery's second season, smaller short film-like episodes of a series called Short Treks were released online. During the San Diego Comic-Con Star Trek panel, it was confirmed that six new ones are in production, including three that focus on the USS Enterprise. These new Short Treks will feature stories focused on Pike, Number One, and Spock, three major characters in current Star Trek fiction. Additionally, two of these new Short Treks will be animated. Further details on exactly what they'll involve weren't revealed, but there will no doubt be more information as they get closer to release. They're said to be "very fun standalone stories" but that everything connects. Their titles are:"Ask Not""Q&A""The Trouble With Edward""The Girl Who Made The Stars""Ephaim And Dot""Children Of MarsWe did learn that the last one will be a teaser for Picard, which "will give you a sense of some background 15 years before the series." You can watch the first Short Treks trailer here. The Star Trek panel also delivered details on Season 3 of Discovery which, according to creator Alex Kurtzman, is heading further into the future than any Star Wars series before it. There will be a new character called Cleveland "Book" Booker, who is a bit of a rule-breaker. It seems Jean-Luc Picard won't spend the entirety of his new Star Trek series hanging out in France, making wine. A new set of photos out of the Star Trek: Picard panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 take the legendary captain back to space and give more of a look at what we can expect when the series goes to warp later this year. Before Comic-Con, we knew precious little about the new Picard series, which will air exclusively on CBS's streaming service, CBS All Access, just like Star Trek: Discovery and the upcoming animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks. Picard was the captain from Star Trek: The Next Generation and four Star Trek movies that followed it, played by Patrick Stewart. We last saw the character back in 2004 in Star Trek: Nemesis when he was still a captain. The Enterprise crew from Star Trek: TNG more or less disbanded at that point, but the panel at Comic-Con revealed that Picard will feature several Star Trek alumni, including Brent Spiner (Data on TNG), Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine on Star Trek: Voyager), Jonathan Del Arco (Hugh on TNG), Jonathan Frakes (Will Riker on TNG), and Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi on TNG). The panel also saw the release of a new trailer for Star Trek: Picard.A teaser trailer released in May for Picard explained that Picard went on to become an admiral in Starfleet before retiring. The teaser's voice-over narration states that Picard led the "largest rescue armada" in Federation history 15 years before the show, and apparently saved a lot of lives in doing so. But something tragic also happened during that event, which resulted in Picard abandoning the life of an explorer for a simpler, more terrestrial existence. It's a retirement we saw hinted at back during the series finale of TNG, "All Good Things," which showed a flash-forward of Picard tending his family's vineyard in France.Check out all the photos above, and check out the rest of our full Picard and Star Trek coverage on our Comic-Con hub.Star Trek Comic-Con NewsEverything We Know About Star Trek PicardStar Trek Picard Details; Riker, Data, Borg, Seven of Nine ReturningStar Trek Picard First Trailer RevealedNew Star Trek Picard Photos Take Jean-Luc Out Of The VineyardRick & Morty Writer's Star Trek Animated Show, Lower Decks, DetailedStar Trek Discovery Season 3 Details Confirm Time Jump, New CharacterStar Trek's New Short Treks Feature Spock And Pike, Tease Picard SeriesDisclosure: CBS is GameSpot's parent company.Info from Gamespot.com

One of the most exciting new Star Treks shows on the horizon is called Lower Decks and it's an animated series from Mike McMahon, a writer on Rick & Morty. During San Diego Comic-Con 2019, attendees of the Star Trek panel were given a little more information about the show--including the fact that it releases on CBS All Access in 2020.Star Trek: Lower Decks is a show about what happens on the Lower Decks of the ship. According to McMahon, each episode will be 30 minutes long and focuses on four Ensign rank officers on a not very important Starfleet ship. It aims to deliver a mixture of emotional and sci-fi stories."It’s all about families. There’s a lot of familiar Star Trek in it. Even though we’re a comedy, it doesn’t make fun of Trek. We focus on people in the ship who are funny."Lower Decks is set in 2380, right after Star Trek: Nemesis. The Ensigns mentioned earlier include Tendi (Noel Wells), who is described as having her mind blown every day she's on the ship. She works in the medical bay and there’s no gross illness that she’s not thrilled to be dealing with. All in all, she's "a source of joy."Another of the Ensigns is Rutherford (Eugene Cordero). "He’s our engineer," McMahon said. "But unlike Geordi he does not solve the problems by the end of the episode. [He] has a cyborg implant that he just got and is figuring it out."According to Alex Kurtzman, who created Star Trek: Discovery and is spearheading many of the upcoming big Star Trek projects, the decision to go with an animated show was inspired by the likes of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.“Some of the best stories that are being told are being told in the animated space," he said. "Between Spider-Verse and Rick and Morty. Star Trek is limited in what it can be--it has to be more, it can expand."As for who the show is aimed at, the Lower Decks team said it's for "anyone that wants to explore Star Trek and wants more of it." It has "characters that care about each other and love and grow and change. If you’ve never seen Star Trek before, this could be your first Star Trek."At Comic-Con, we also learned more about Picard, Star Trek Discovery Season 3, and upcoming Short Treks.Star Trek Comic-Con NewsStar Trek Picard Details; Riker, Data, Borg, Seven of Nine ReturningStar Trek Picard Gets Its First TrailerNew Star Trek Picard Photos Take Jean-Luc Out Of The VineyardRick & Morty Writer's Star Trek Animated Show, Lower Decks, DetailedStar Trek Discovery Season 3 Details Confirm Time Jump, New CharacterStar Trek's New Short Treks Feature Spock And Pike, Tease Picard SeriesDisclosure: CBS is GameSpot's parent company.Info from Gamespot.com

AMC's Preacher is fast approaching its fourth and final season, and the studio took to San Diego Comic-Con to debut a trailer for the last episodes. The final season comes with the tagline, "It All Goes to Hell," and this trailer looks suitably chaotic to fit the theme. It's chock full of the otherworldly creepiness you've come to expect, complete with an apparent nuclear explosion and a very organized apocalypse dossier. It's our first real look at footage from the season after the short teaser released in April. Check it out below. Preacher stars Dominic Cooper (Need for Speed) as a man of the cloth, sort of. It's based on the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon comic series originally published under the Vertigo label, which was recently retired.SDCC has also brought plenty of news about AMC's other adult-oriented comic adaptation, The Walking Dead. The original series is losing one of its biggest stars, while the movie is bringing back another one. Plus its spin-off series, Fear the Walking Dead, has been renewed for another season.Info from Gamespot.com

One of San Diego Comic-Con's biggest panels is dedicated to Star Trek: Picard, an upcoming CBS All Access series that focuses on the beloved Starfleet officer decades after the events of The Next Generation. And, as announced during the panel, familiar faces from his past will return and they were shown briefly in the first Star Trek: Picard trailer, which premiered at SDCC.Alongside Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard, a number of other Star Trek alum will be making appearances in the series. This includes Brent Spiner, who played Data; Jonathan Frakes, who is known for playing Captain Riker; Jeri Ryan, who portrayed the Borg Seven of Nine; and Marina Sirtis, who was Counselor Deanna Troi.During the panel, Stewart explained why he decided to reprise his role once again for Picard: “I decided over a year ago [to do it]. For a long time I had been saying, ‘Thank you but no.' But as the subject matter of this series became clearer and clearer to me, and I met this writing team, I knew that something unusual was going to happen and I wanted to be a part of it. So here I am. And very, very happy to be here.”Alex Kurtzman, one of the creators of Star Trek: Discovery and producer of many of the new Star Trek projects said Picard is entirely different [than Discovery]. It all started with Patrick. He didn't want to repeat what he had already done. He really challenged us. It forced us to think outside the box. What is it about this great captain that everybody loves so much? All of us sat down and we asked lots of questions about what Star Trek meant to each of us and to Patrick. Then these storylines began to emerge about Picard."Picard is not just a philosopher but a human being. The choices he makes are not made in a vacuum. He’s the leader we all want. Picard and Patrick are one in many ways. TNG reflected a more innocent time, it was always telling great stories, complicated stories, but we live in a much more complicated time now. Picard, in the best way, is still standing up for what matters. He’s still standing up for the ideals we believe in. Age has not changed his resolve.Star Trek Comic-Con NewsStar Trek Picard Trailer DebutsNew Star Trek Picard Photos Take Jean-Luc Out Of The VineyardRick & Morty Writer's Star Trek Animated Show, Lower Decks, DetailedStar Trek Discovery Season 3 Details Confirm Time Jump, New CharacterStar Trek's New Short Treks Feature Spock And Pike, Tease Picard Series"We’re not seeking to reinvent TNG. But Picard has to soul search. You need a darkness to make the world lighter and brighter. He doesn’t have the same resources. He needs to dig deeper into himself. In the darkest of times, the best part of ourselves will emerge."Producer Kirsten Byer also added that "the great thing about taking this part of Picard's story forward [is] it’s an extraordinary opportunity to see the most unknown, inexperienced part of his journey." Another producer, Heather Kadin, said, "Patrick has lived it from the inside out. Not only did he not want to do what he had done on TNG, we didn’t want to do what we did on Discovery. This is its whole own lyrical, dramatic, and grounded piece."Showrunner Michael Chabon discussed the process of writing Picard, which involved "having to write so much so frequently in a way that is so collaborative, [with] not just our writers but with our cast [and Patrick too]."Patrick came and helped us critique and review and share the story," Chabon continued. "It’s an ongoing collaboration. I’ve learned to trust Patrick’s judgment of the character on a daily basis. We knew we had to have a cast that was worthy of and could stand next to an actor as incredible as Patrick."Other cast members also provided insight into their characters. Allison Phil plays a researcher but didn't get into details much beyond that. "I get to play somebody who is deeply confused of her place in the world, treading water for a long time waiting for it. Everybody here is pretty broken in different ways. There’s a lot of lonely sad sacks." Michelle Hurd takes on the character of Rafi, a "delicious character to bring to life," thanks to a struggle with demons.Isa Briones plays Dodge, a young woman looking for Picard for answers and help, while Santiago Cabrera is Chris Rios, an ex-Starfleet member that is helping Picard, albeit reluctantly.Executive producer Akiva Goldsman also offered his take on the show. “We pointedly did not want to make a sequel to Next Generation. Tonally, it’s a little bit of a hybrid. It takes on hope for a future that is, in many ways, better than the world we live in today. Star Trek is aspirational. In serialized storytelling, the characters can evolve. It’s a different kind of Star Trek show made up of lot of the old Star Trek shows.”Returning The Next Generation CharactersAs the panel went on, Jonathan Del Arco, Brent Spiner, and Jeri Ryan appeared to talk about their characters. Jeri Ryan began by saying one of the creators of Picard, after four glasses of champagne, pitched the idea to her. She kept hearing about it but never thought it was going to happen. "But here we are," she said, "It's pretty surreal."Joking, Spiner said he heard about the Picard series and called the producers to ask if they had anyone in mind for the role of Picard and they hung up on him. "But then I spoke to Patrick, and he said, 'There's a possibility, would you think about coming on the show in some way?' and then joined up. He said being on the set again was something he couldn't turn down."To think that this was going to happen and there was a possibility that I might be there, there was no way I was going to miss," he explained."We have more fun than should be allowed in a very expensive series," Stewart chimed in. "What's extraordinary about this experience ... I am astonished and grateful for the speed at which this has become a team. We still have about three episodes to go and we are already cemented as a team."While details on the story of Star Trek: Picard remain thin, it has been revealed that, after his time aboard Enterprise, Picard was promoted to Admiral rank and went on to lead a rescue armada on a mission shrouded in mystery. Following the mission, Picard left Starfleet and retired to a run a vineyard. Star Trek: Picard is set roughly 20 years after the events of The Next Generation and it is believed that the mysterious rescue mission contributed to his departure. This will no doubt be explored in the series. On July 12, a Star Trek: Picard poster was released on Twitter by Patrick Stewart. It reveals that Picard's new No.1 is an adorable dog, who is called Deniro. Picard is expected to air on CBS All Access at the end of this year under the direction of showrunner and acclaimed novelist Michael Chabon. There was plenty of other Star Trek news during SDCC 2019. Along with the Star Trek: Picard panel, there was time dedicated to Star Trek: Discovery, where new cast members that will appear in Season 3 were revealed. An update on Short Treks--a series of short films coming ahead of Season 3-- was also provided, along with details on Lower Decks, a new animated Star Trek show from a Rick & Morty writer.Disclosure: CBS is GameSpot's parent company. At San Diego Comic-Con, fans attending the Star Trek panel were treated to the first trailer for Star Trek Picard, the CBS All Access show that brings one of Starfleet's most respected officers to screen once again--and with a number of familiar faces in tow. Picard is set many years after The Next Generation and, in the time he's been away, much has happened. While the details remain vague (and will likely only be explored once the show premieres), the end result is that Picard has retired and now runs a vineyard. The trailer opens in the vineyard, where Picard opens some doors and stares at his old belongings. It's noted that Data sacrificed his life for Picard. "I wanted to belong here, but it never felt like home," he says. A woman comes to Picard for help, and Picard discusses her with another officer. "If she's who I think she is, she's in serious danger," he explained.Picard is then shown enlisting a crew to join him. He pours a drink out, and at this point it's revealed that Seven of Nine will return. "What the hell are you doing here, Picard?" she says, to which he replies, "Saving the galaxy."The classic order of, "Engage," is said, and then Data is shown, taking part in a card game. "I don't want the game to end," Picard says, showing his sentimentality. "I can see that, Captain," Data offers in return.Patrick Stewart, who plays the iconic character, also appeared during the panel and, as you can imagine, the crowd was very excited to see him. "We never know do we, when our best moment will be? And that is now," he said. There were a whole bunch of other characters confirmed for the show, including Riker. Westworld's third season is eagerly anticipated and during the Comic-Con 2019 panel, we got some information on what's in store for fans as well as a trailer, which you can watch above. The panel was attended by showrunners Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, as well as stars Jeffery Wright, Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Tessa Thompson, and newcomer Aaron Paul. The trailer showed Newton's character, Maeve in World War II and there was a whole lot of time jumping with other prominent characters like Evan Rachel Wood's Dolores and Aaron Paul's new addition, Caleb, in a sleek future city full of robots. This undoubtedly means Season 3 will be confusing web for fans to untangle and theorize over. Maeve is shown alongside Nazis, though it's unclear whether she's fighting them or working alongside them. The Man in Black is apparently still around and ooking a bit rough, and Bernard's voice over sounds like he's talking to someone about Dolores, indicating this unknown person may need to stop her. Thompson began by referencing her supposed demise the end of the previous season. "You never really die on Westworld though, right?" she said. Discussing the Man in Black, who is played by Ed Harris, Nolan said that the final post-credit scenes were written on the back of a napkin by Harris, who handed it to the showrunners to be shot."Will the Man in Black be back," he wondered, before adding, "I'm not going to call him and tell him he's not on the show anymore," indicating Ed Harris's enigmatic antagonist has plenty more mischief to make.According to Nolan, Season 3 takes played in "a new world," though when the suggestion that it was a new park was made he replied, "I didn't say that." Nolan went on to discuss how the show's vision for the future it depicts."I grew up with my brother who made me watch Blade Runner once a week. That movie set the design for what the future looks like--and it's brilliant, it's a gorgeous movie, but we wanted to find something different than that. The thing about dystopias is that they can look really beautiful."Aaron Paul's character is called Caleb and he's a construction worker. "I am such a psychotic fan of Westworld," Paul said. "I just had an out of body experience watching that trailer. I have a robot, his name is George. He's a very helpful robot and I love him. He's red."Caleb has a complicated past and is described as "a little bit white hat, a little bit black hat." Paul extrapolated, saying Caleb is "just trying to survive in the world and, occasionally, that means doing bad things." This would certainly explain his position in the trailer, either following or being escorted by a very dangerous looking Dolores. Discussing the end of Season 2, Luke Hemsworth teased, "There's a whole other thing going on [in the conversation between Hemsworth and Thompson at the end of Season 2] that everyone missed. The thing about my character is that he's not very good at his job.""When we started, Westworld was a dystopia but I think now three seasons in, it's maybe the best case scenario?" Nolan hedged, while discussing the themes that Season 3 is now grappling with. "I think we're entering into the age of artificial stupidity ... we're trying to figure out what the rest of the world looks like, if that is indeed where the show is happening. There's the netflix effect where there's an algorithm determining what you'll watch next and whatnot."These concepts are far in the future, but they're also kind of not. They're kind of right now. In Season 3 we discard metaphor--we deal with the world as it is literally, which is a giant shitshow," Nolan laughed. The panel's moderator noted that, while the architects in the show are old white guys, their progeny are incredibly powerful women. Nolan was then asked if Ford was based on a real person. "He's a composite of a lot," Nolan said, before Joy agreed."One of the weird things happening with AI is that they're privately funded, they're very anonymous. Market advantage is to go in stealth mode," Nolan said, referring to the way people tend to not know what's going on in the world of AI development. "These projects are happening out of the public eye. That may not be a big deal. Or it may be the single biggest mistake we've ever made.""This is not just science fiction, this is in someways reality," the moderator prompted, and Nolan agreed, "The show is heightened, but some of this is happening right now."Discussing her character, Charlotte Hale, Tessa Thompson said many see her as a supervillain. She then seemed to invoke the spirit of her character. "But they're robots--they're not human, they're not," she laughed, "I never know how to talk about this show! I never know what I can say.""There were moments in season 2 when we were shooting that I was already Holores (Ed's note: This is the name given to Dolores in Charlotte's body), and I didn't know it," Thompson recounted. "Once I knew where we were going, I could get on the phone with Evan and get some tips about how to do that."There's one thing that Dolores does, when she sits down, her right hand is always in her left. Every single time," Wood offered, highlighting the subtleties of Dolores as a character. The next character in the spotlight is Bernard and Jeffrey Wright attempted to talk about whether his empathy was learned or programmed. "I guess that's the question of the show," Wright said, unable to answer it. "The question is the thing. It's all about that question.""Being tortured by Anthony Hopkins and by Dolores for a couple of seasons lends itself to a certain internal turmoil," Wright joked, highlighting Bernard's withdrawn demeanor.Thandie Newton then reflected on her character, Maeve. "I've never had to go through anything like [Maeve's experience]. The set up is extraordinary. The second season was really, really hard. This incredible being who has learned so much and managed to find her free will, but chooses to sacrifice that."But I still got to kick some ass," she joked. "[Maeve] is an expensive piece of hardware and she's treated like she has no value--and yet we know that she really is an extremely expensive piece of hardware, so we get to see her discovering her own value. That's something amazing about [Westworld, the Hosts] are never, ever told how much they're worth, so Maeve finding her agency is amazing."The moderator puts the question to the panel that Westworld seems to say there's an error in the source code of humanity."Maybe it has something to do with these beautiful actors," Joy replied. "I think when you're pretty shy growing up, you start looking at the world from an outsider perspective, almost like a robot--trying to figure out when it's safe to jump in. You see both beautiful things that people don't notice, but you also see [terrible things]. You can't help but see a really vast spectrum."I don't think humanity is doomed, but I do think that we've capitulated [to] cycles of violence and tribalism. I don't know what it's rooted in but the implications of it are really difficult. Our technologies have evolved and it feels like we should be able to overcome this, we should be able to broker solutions--there's a disconnect there."The show is violent, but nowhere near as violent as the world," Joy continued. "If you look at the statistics of things like violence against women, we're not showing more violence than there is in the real world--we're putting a lens on it and we want to make people uncomfortable with it. It should make people uncomfortable."Asked whether the show has changed the way the cast sees everyday life, Aaron Paul said he sees the world a little differently now. "The story they were telling in the first two seasons made me look at the world [through] a more focused lense--it also makes me think that maybe we're all just living in a simulation," he laughed."I consider myself a very non-violent person," Thompson continued. "Last season there's a scene when Holores walks through and shoots some guards, and she walks through and steps on one of them. In the moment I felt really cool, I thought I was a badass. But later in the day, there's a scene where I have a gun to someone's head--and suddenly, that violence had a huge effect on me. I struggled with that. It made me think about the way we think about violence in the world and the violence that we pay attention to--what we can ignore in the world."I have been privileged to be non-violent," Thompson continued. "I haven't had the life experience that's forced me to be in violent situations, so it helped me to have that experience on the show and realize that I have that in me as well."Jeffrey Wright then offered his perspective: "[Technology] is a huge driving factor in wealth disparity, and I'm grateful that we get to have that conversation in this show, especially in season three. The tools that we're addicted to in real life are such massive tools of wealth disparity and the show really engages in that. So to answer your question about when the show takes place? It takes place right now," Wright laughed. At this point, fans offered their own questions to the panel, the first being whether morality is subjective, as it relates to Dolores."Things aren't black and white and the longer I work on the show I see that more and more--but some things are, right?" Rachel Wood replied. "Like the system is rigged. We change the rules constantly. We call people heroes who are doing the same things villains are doing. There are so many grey areas. That's why I love Dolores--it's difficult for me to do a lot of the things she does, but I understand why she's doing them."I'm really excited for people to see her this season because I feel like she's constantly growing. She's always a thousand steps ahead of everyone most of the time, but she's still taking all of this information in and still learning and growing," Wood added.Another attendee asked Aaron Paul what draws him to less-than-perfect characters, calling to mind his role as Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad. "I just like to get beat up, man," he replied. On the subject of Thandie Newton's favorite Maeve seen, the actor said there were too man. "I really relish the scenes I play in Season 1 where Maeve is completely vulnerable, physically naked, is just bottling every situation she's in."Westworld Season 3 is coming to HBO in 2020.
