Marvel's big San Diego Comic-Con panel outlined lots of new plans for Phase 4, but a few notable omissions raised eyebrows. Specifically the panel didn't make any major announcements surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Black Panther 2, or Captain Marvel 2.But fear not, true-believers; all of them are still on the way. MCU boss Kevin Feige offhandedly joked near the end of the panel that they just didn't have time to fit all their plans in, alongside a brief mention of the X-Men and Fantastic Four. None of those got a spotlight at this particular event, which largely focused on new franchises and surprise announcements. The panel announced the Black Widow and Eternals movies in 2020, followed by Shang-Chi, Dr. Strange 2, and Thor 4 featuring Natalie Portman reprising her role as Jane Foster, who in this movie will become the Goddess of Thunder. The panel's big surprise came at the very end, with the announcement of Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali as the title character in a new Blade movie. All of these announcements came alongside more details for the MCU TV series that will be offered through the Disney+ service. Falcon and Winter Soldier will premiere in fall 2020, and then WandaVision and Loki in spring 2021. A "What If?" animated series is coming in summer 2021, and then a Hawkeye series in the fall. It's not clear if Guardians 3, Black Panther 2, or Captain Marvel 2 could fit around these plans, or if those films have been pushed into Phase 5.Info from Gamespot.com

It turns out that sort of out-of-place Natalie Portman cameo in Avengers: Endgame was a little more important than anyone could have guessed. The actor, who hasn't played a major role in any MCU movie since 2013's Thor: The Dark World, will be making a return to the MCU to reprise her role as Jane Foster in Thor: Love And Thunder--with one major caveat: she'll be wielding Mjolnir.Director Taika Waititi took the stage at San Diego Comic-Con during the massive Marvel Studios panel to surprise fans. Moderator Jessica Chobot prompted Waititi with a question about what comic book storylines had inspired him, which Waititi was quick to answer. "When we were shooting Ragnarok, I was reading Jason Aaron's Mighty Thor, and it introduces female Thor [Jane Foster]. So, there's only one person who can do that."Natalie Portman herself then took the stage to massive applause, before being handed her own replica Mjolnir to really drive Jane's new MCU status quo home."This feels pretty good," Portman laughed, "I've always had a little hammer envy."Jane's turn as Thor came after Thor Odinson was rendered unworthy by a cosmically aware Nick Fury (don't ask), who confirmed that a villain named Gor the God Butcher, who believed all gods in the universe were fundamentally horrible and wrong, was "right." By whispering that simple phrase: "Gor was right," Thor found himself experiencing such a crisis of confidence that he could no longer lift Mjolnir.Thankfully, Mjolnir's powers have some strings attached, if you remember its inscription--"Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor." During Thor's crisis, Jane, who had actually been battling fatal cancer, was able to lift the hammer and become imbued with the powers. As a deity, Jane's cancer was also "cured," but only while she was in her Thor form, creating a dangerous catch-22 when she would revert back to her mortal self. It's unclear what the set up for Jane's transformation in the MCU will actually be, since as far as we know she has been in perfect health, but with Doctor Strange 2's introduction of the multiverse, it seems like anything and everything is possible.Thor: Love And Thunder will hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Arguably the best original series the DC Universe streaming service has produced so far is officially continuing. It was announced at the DC Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con that Doom Patrol, which stars Diane Guerrero, Brendan Fraser, April Bowlby, and Matt Bomer, has been renewed for a second season. There's a bit of a catch, though. In an interesting twist, the second season won't just air on DC Universe. Instead, the series will be featured on both the DC Entertainment standalone service, as well as HBO Max, which is WarnerMedia's upcoming streaming offering. New episodes will premiere on both services simultaneously. Additionally, all Season 1 episodes of Doom Patrol will be made available on HBO Max when the service launches. The other big live-action DCU news from the panel was the premiere date for Season 2 of Titans. The service will return for new episodes on Friday, September 6. Interestingly, Titans will still be a DC Universe-exclusive show at this point. While that could change in the future, for now, Doom Patrol remains the sole series jumping between the two services.HBO Max will launch in early 2020 and in addition to Doom Patrol, it will also be the exclusive streaming home of classic shows like Friends and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Additionally, the service has a number of original shows in the works, including an animated Gremlins prequel series.Info from Gamespot.com

Sometimes all it takes is a tweet. One of the big announcements at Marvel's San Diego Comic-Con panel was the casting of Simu Liu in the lead for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings. But it seems that Liu's starring role started with a tweet that the Kim's Convenience actor sent to Marvel last year.Although the Shang-Chi movie was officially announced at the SDCC panel, it was first reported that Marvel was planning a movie based on the Asian superhero in December 2018. Liu clearly knew that he was right for the role, so fired off this tweet shortly after the news broke:OK @Marvel, are we gonna talk or what #ShangChi — Simu Liu (@SimuLiu) December 3, 2018Nearly seven months later, it was confirmed that Liu was indeed playing Shang-Chi. The actor was quick to remind fans where it all started, with this reply to his original tweet:Well shit. — Simu Liu (@SimuLiu) July 21, 2019Of course, we don't know the background to the first tweet and the conversations that happened in the time between. But it's exciting to think that a tweet to Marvel is all it takes if you're the right choice for the role.Shang-Chi will also star Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) and be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who also helmed Brie Larson's breakthrough film Short Term 12. It hits theaters on February 12, 2021.At the SDCC panel, Marvel boss Kevin Feige also announced Black Widow and The Eternals in 2020, followed by Doctor Strange 2: In The Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder in 2021. The new Thor film will see Natalie Portman reprising her role as Jane Foster, who in this movie will become the Goddess of Thunder. There was also a big surprise at the very end of the panel when Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali was announced as the title character in a new Blade movie. For a full recap of the panel, check out our rundown on everything announced at the Marvel Studios panel.May 1, 2020 -- Black WidowFall 2020 -- Falcon and Winter SoldierNovember 6, 2020 -- The EternalsFebruary 12, 2021 -- Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 RingsSpring 2021 -- WandaVisionMay 7, 2021 -- Doctor Strange 2: In The Multiverse of MadnessSpring 2021 -- LokiSummer 2021 -- "What If?" animated seriesFall 2021 -- HawkeyeNovember 5, 2021 -- Thor: Love and ThunderInfo from Gamespot.com

Avengers: Endgame was a box office powerhouse when it released in April, but despite its monster opening, the movie wasn't quite able to take the box office earnings record from another enormous movie: Avatar. That's no longer the case, according to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, who just announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Endgame took Avatar's box office record. There's a catch, though."I literally just heard from our folks at Disney Distribution that Avengers: Endgame will be the biggest film of all time," Feige said during the Marvel Studios panel in Comic-Con's Hall H. "You have to shout out to [Avatar director] James Cameron--if you adjust for inflation he still holds that title, but right now, thanks to you folks in Hall H, Avengers: Endgame is the biggest film of all time."That means that in straight numbers, Endgame has surpassed Avatar's total box office take of $2.78 billion. But as Feige mentioned, the world was different in 2009, when Avatar was released, and inflation means that $2.78 billion was worth more then than it is now.You might also recall that Disney and Marvel Studios worked pretty hard to get that record out of Cameron's hands. The company returned Endgame to theaters on June 28 so it could soak up even more money. Before its "farewell" tour, Endgame had only raked in $2.74 billion. Still, a record is a record, and Disney fought to take this one. There's plenty more news coming out of Marvel's Hall H panel, and you can find full coverage of all of it on our Comic-Con hub.Info from Gamespot.com

Following yesterday's teaser, Blizzard has now put out another mysterious image related to Overwatch. While the first showed Jeff Kaplan getting sucked into a black hole, this one appears to show a name badge which, importantly, features the Greek alphabet symbol for Sigma. Those that have been paying attention to recent Overwatch leaks will know that Sigma is believed to be the name of Hero 31.This all but confirms that a new hero should be joining Overwatch pretty soon. This would be the 31st playable character on the roster. The last one to debut was the combat medic Baptiste in March.Blizzard is currently testing a new Role Queue feature in the public test realm, which totally revises how players engage with matchmaking. Instead of picking a hero, you choose from one of the three role types: tank, support, or damage. Then you're put into a team composed of two players of each type. The move is intended to help with team composition, and it comes with a suite of changes to skill ratings and leaderboards. It will roll out as a beta on August 13.Meanwhile, Overwatch is currently celebrating its Summer Games event. The yearly event offers special challenges and exclusive cosmetics to earn. As usual they're themed after beating the heat with some summer wear, like a swimsuit for Hanzo or a very beachy Torbjorn.Info from Gamespot.com

When Riverdale returns to The CW on October 9, it will be to remember actor Luke Perry, who died unexpectedly during Season 3. The Season 4 premiere, titled "In Memoriam," will feature a tribute to the late actor. During the show's annual panel at San Diego Comic-Con, it was also revealed that Riverdale had enlisted another of Perry's former colleagues, 90210 co-star Shannen Doherty.Doherty played Brenda Walsh, a love interest of Perry's Dylan McKay, on the series. The two were also close friends. In fact, Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said in a statement that Perry had been hoping for Doherty to appear in the show since it began. "They were such good friends, and when we were putting together this tribute episode, we wanted to make it as special as possible, and so we asked Shannen to do a pivotal, super-emotional role. She read the script and immediately said 'yes.' It's very impactful," he explained.According to Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead on the show, the various cast members getting to share scenes with Doherty was "very cathartic." Being able to work with someone new to their world but so close to Perry was "beautiful" for them.In discussing the episode, Aguirre-Sacasa said taking time to craft a memorial to kick off Season 4 was the best way they could honor him. "We wanted it to be a very sort of a special episode--kind of stand-alone," he explained. It will honor the character and his impact on the various characters and the town of Riverdale itself. The appearance by Doherty wasn't the only news revealed in the panel. It was also announced that former Dawson's Creek and The Fosters star Kerr Smith would be joining the cast as the new principal at Riverdale High, Mr. Hones. Aguirre-Sacasa described the character as "a bit of a hard-ass who takes a harder line with the students this year, especially with the seniors." It's about time someone puts these kids in their place.Riverdale returns for its third season on October 9.Info from Gamespot.com

The latest major update for the long-in-development super-ambitious PC space sim Star Citizen has arrived. Alpha 3.6 is available now, and it is a massive update. Among other things, it adds a new law system, more space stations, additional missions, and a number of "quality-of-life" improvements. Additionally, all of the game's flyable ships can now be purchased with in-game virtual currency. All Star Citizen backers can pick up Alpha 3.6 right now. With the new law system, offenders will find themselves attacked by NPCs who are on a mission to bring them to justice. Additionally, the Alpha 3.6 update introduces a series of new missions that actively motivate players to break the law; that should make for an interesting dynamic. The law system penalizes players for all manner of bad behavior, running from minor fines to serious offenses where NPCs will go after you with "kill on sight" orders."Star Citizen has always been about player choice and playing the way you want to play, but that doesn't mean it's a lawless universe," game director Chris Roberts said in a statement. "The new law system brings a much more systemic approach to law and order throughout the Star Citizen universe; different locations and factions can have different rules which will be enforced by AI or even other players as the crime becomes more serious. It’s yet another step on the road to a fully breathing dynamic universe that reacts to and is shaped by the players actions."Here are more particulars about the new law system in Star Citizen:"Players with an active crime stat can run, leave the jurisdiction, pay off the authorities, or head to one of several new crime stat hacking locations," reads a line from the official description. "There, they can use a hacking tool to remove their crime stat and return to civilized society unharmed. However, time is a factor, as players with active crime stats become the target of counter-missions that task other players with stopping them at any cost. Additionally, the new black market economy provides a 'safer' path for players to dispose of illegally-acquired goods through some of the less-than-reputable vendors in the universe." In terms of the other new updates and changes for Star Citizen Alpha 3.6, you can see a rundown of what's new below, as written by the developer. You can also read this extremely in-depth post on the Star Citizen website to learn more.Star Citizen Alpha 3.6 Update Notes:Systemic ImprovementsShip Purchasing Kiosks: Nearly all of Star Citizen’s 90+ flyable ships and drivable vehicles are now purchasable in-game, with in-game currency.FoIP + VoIP Improvements: You can now use Face over IP or simple VoIP calls to “hail” other ships, giving players another way to connect with each other, team up, and communicate across the massive Star Citizen universe. Additionally, FoIP and TrackIR now power “free look” via headtracking technology, allowing players to control their in-game FPS controls by moving in real life.New Space Stations: To cope with the constantly expanding playable space, new space stations are now sprinkled throughout the Stanton system. These massive space stations feature docking pads, shops, and other points of interest to explore.Ships & flight improvementsHover Mode: Hover mode automatically activates near planetary surfaces at low speed. When engaged, ships swap to VTOL thruster mode to level them out and ensure a safe landing.Vehicle Item Degradation & Misfires: Items such as powerplant’s and thruster’s performance now degrade through heavy use, overheating and damage accumulation, leading to misfires. In addition, all vehicle weapons now support visual degradation.Ship Shield System: Shields have been reworked to add major differences between manufacturers and classifications to provide a difference in feel and value between equipment.Updated Ships and New WeaponsAnvil Ballista: this surface-to-air missile equipped ground vehicle features long range scanning and radar, plus the firepower to control the skies from the ground.Aegis Vanguard Warden: a hard-charging bulldog of a fighter craft that features extensive forward-mounted weaponry designed to tear through enemy shields and armor.Kruger Intergalactic P52 Merlin: ideal for racing, local recon, and fast combat, this snub fighter ship is designed to be transported aboard a larger ship. With a centerline-mounted Gatling cannon and Lightning Power engine, it’s fast, maneuverable, and packs a punch.Kruger Intergalactic P72 Archimedes: This sister craft to the Merlin is a snub fighter featuring an extra intake and lighter hull to deliver exceptional handling and boost capabilities in a sleek package.Behring s38 pistol: this standard sidearm is in widespread use across the Empire for both citizens and law enforcement officers, with functionality that minimizes recoil while enabling quick semi-automatic fire.MaxOx Neutron Repeaters ship weapon: this weapon is designed for devastating close-range ship combat, featuring a twin barrel system firing neutron projectiles at a rapid rate.Klaus & Werner Lumin V submachine gun: even when constantly on the attack, the gun's excellent design provides low recoil and a tight spread, while firing single energy bolts or bursts of five shots at a time.Star Citizen is the most successful crowdfunded game in history. One of the main celebrity characters in Hideo Kojima's upcoming PlayStation 4 game Death Stranding is played by Hannibal and Casino Royale actor Mads Mikkelsen. As it turns out, the actor wasn't the first big name pitched for the role, it seems.During a San Diego Comic-Con panel this weekend, Kojima and movie director Nicolas Winding-Refn (a friend of Kojima's, who also has a part in Death Stranding) shared new insight on the much-anticipated and very mysterious game. Among other revelations, Kojima said The Matrix actor Keanu Reeves' name came up in discussions for Death Stranding. "I originally was recommended Keanu Reeves, but I wanted Mads," Kojima said, according to a report from Twitter user Kalai_chik who was in attendance.Hideo: “I originally was recommended Keanu Reeves but I wanted Madds.” #DeathStranding #hideokojima pic.twitter.com/KY442aQsIx — Kalai 📸 SDCC (@kalai_chik) July 21, 2019It seems Reeves is an in-demand actor for video game roles. Polish CD Projekt Red enlisted him for a major role in Cyberpunk 2077. Reeves is having a big year all around, as he starred in John Wick 3, had a memorable cameo in Netflix's Always Be My Maybe, and voiced a new character in Toy Story 4. He's currently filming Bill & Ted Face the Music. Also during the Death Stranding Comic-Con panel, Kojima spoke at a high level about what the game is all about, and well, it still doesn't make all that much sense."You're alone playing as Sam (Norman Reedus); you're trying to connect city to city. I can't speak much but everyone will be playing around the world and we'll have an indirect connections," he said. "I'm an Otaku and I felt like my teachers and family didn't understand me. I came to SDCC 10 years ago and met a lot of people like me, so I think that's what you'll get from this game."Death Stranding also features characters played by James Bond actress Lea Seydoux as Fragile; Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actress Margaret Qualley plays Mama, while The Last of Us actor Troy Baker portrays Higgs. The Bionic Woman actress Lindsay Wagner plays Amelie, while Guillermo del Toro plays DeadmanA recent report said Death Stranding could come to PS5, but that has not yet been announced. Like The Witcher 3 and CD Projekt Red's other games, Cyberpunk 2077 will have multiple difficulty settings. One of them is Hardcore, and it sounds intense. CD Projekt Red's Alvin Liu told wccftech that Cyberpunk 2077's Hardcore mode turns off the UI. "That will be a real challenge for a lot of players," Liu said.On the other end, Cyberpunk 2077 will have difficulty options that cater to players who are less familiar with shooter games. Ensuring that Cyberpunk 2077 accommodates those players was a "real big concern" for the developer, Liu said. "We want to tell a story and maybe you're a big fan of The Witcher and you're not comfortable playing a shooter, we have settings available for that," Liu said. "We even have weapons for that. "One of those weapons is the "smart gun," and it helps you aim, Liu said. Cyberpunk 2077 releases on April 16, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game features The Matrix actor Keanu Reeves in a big role, and it was recently revealed that the actor could have appeared in Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding.Info from Gamespot.com

2007's The Simpsons Movie was an enormous success. Critics and fans generally enjoyed it, while it made a gargantuan $527 million against a reported budget of $75 million. So why hasn't there been a sequel? It's a topic that has come up a number of times over the years, and it did so again at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. Simpsons creator Matt Groening said during a panel that it was a tremendously difficult challenge to make the movie, and it's not something that the production team wanted to rush back into right away."The first Simpsons movie killed us," Groening explained, as reported by IGN. The reason for that was because the same team behind the TV show also made the movie. There was no separate production team for the movie. As such, the cast and crew had to complete The Simpsons Movie in between seasons of the show. Now, some 12 years later, Groening says the team is almost back to a place where they might consider making another movie."We're almost recovered. No doubt there will be another Simpsons movie one of these days. Disney wants something for its money," Groening said.Disney recently acquired the majority of Fox's entertainment assets in one of the biggest buyouts in media history at $71.3 billion. For that price, Disney got The Simpsons, Family Guy, Deadpool, X-Men, Avatar, and many others, in addition to TV networks and film studios.During the end credits of The Simpsons Movie, Maggie says "Sequel?" Ever since then, fans have been wondering when that sequel might be made. According to series producer Al Jean, a sequel to The Simpsons Movie probably won't happen until The Simpsons TV show goes off the air."The movie was such a time-intensive operation, it pulled a lot away from the show. I would rather end the show whenever that happens before doing another movie. It's unlikely there’ll be another Simpsons feature while the show is being produced."In February this year, The Simpsons was renewed for Seasons 31 and 32. Season 31 will premiere in September 2019.Info from Gamespot.com

Netflix's Witcher show has become one of our most anticipated series of 2019, and with good reason. The Witcher universe is rich with characters, stories, and lore, whether from the original books by Andrzej Sapkowski, or the popular games that followed later.During The Witcher's lively Comic-Con panel, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich took the stage with actors Henry Cavill (Geralt), Freya Allan (Ciri), and Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) to debut the new trailer and some exclusive footage, which raised our expectations even higher. After the panel, we got the chance to chat with Hissrich, and her answer to our biggest question surprised us.At the panel, Hissrich revealed that "The Last Wish"--a collection of short stories that's considered the first book in the series--was her entry into the Witcher universe, and the book she loves the most. In a group interview later, she elaborated, explaining that much of The Witcher's first season on Netflix is based on The Last Wish."The Last Wish was the first book I read, so--you know how, with anything, the first time you experience a world, you fall in love with it in a totally different way. I love all of the books, but that was really my entrance into the world. So yeah, I drew a lot from it," the showrunner said. "It really is [the] worldbuilding in The Last Wish that I found to be the most important thing.""When I first started talking to Netflix about the show, I think everyone assumed that we would start with the saga [the books that make up the main Witcher story], because that's sort of the most serialized storytelling and would lend itself to bingeing," she continued. "And I said, 'You can't do that without setting up the world first.' I guess that was a big challenge, too, was where to begin."The next logical question, of course, was whether the Netflix show will draw from CD Projekt's acclaimed and beloved video games as well. The answer? Nope--even if Netflix's Witcher show goes on so long that it runs out of book material to adapt, Hissrich said, she wouldn't move on to adapt the games, which, in the absence of any new books in years, have acted as sequels."Extreme long vision, no, we will not start adapting the games," Hissrich explained. "I can only adapt one season at a time, and I'm so excited for this one, and the rest kind of makes my mind explode right now. If someone said to me, 'What happens in Season 7?' Like, sure, I have thoughts, you know--fingers crossed we get there."She elaborated slightly on that position in an answer to a separate question, saying she thinks game fans will like the show regardless of which source material it draws from."I've played the games, but really our stories are coming from the books," the showrunner said. "I think there's a lot of concern, will the television show be for game fans as well? And I absolutely think so. I mean, if you think about how adaptations work, the games are adaptations of the same source material that we're using. If you come to the games and love the characters and love the kinds of stories that you find there, I think you're going to love the show too."Based on the footage that we saw at Comic-Con today, and the trailer released online, we think she might be right. The Witcher will arrive on Netflix sometime in 2019. Info from Gamespot.com

The first trailer for the upcoming Creepshow TV series has been revealed at San Diego Comic-Con. The show is based on the classic 1982 anthology movie, which was directed by George Romero and written by Stephen King, and it will hit the horror streaming platform Shudder in September. The trailer suggests that the makers have gone back to the original film and produced something that fits in with its visual style and comedy/horror tone. There will be 12 individual stories spread across six episodes, and while the trailer mixes them all up, it looks like huge fun. In particular it seems to retain the movie's bold, comic book-inspired visuals and there are some impressive physical make-up effects in there--which is to be expected given the showrunner is VFX legend Greg Nictereo. Check the trailer out below.Creepshow will premiere on Shudder on September 26. The episodes include include "The Finger," written by The Crow's David J. Schow, "The House of the Head," from Birdbox author Josh Malerman, and "Gray Matter," based on a Stephen King story. At the SDCC panel, Nicotero revealed that unlike many shows released in one go onto streaming services, episodes of the new Creepshow will be released weekly.Nicotero also spoke about how the original Creepshow was the first movie set he ever visited, and how Romero's daughter Tina had come to see him shooting the new version, and told him that the legendary director would've loved it. In addition, fans should look out for Easter Eggs throughout the series that tie back into the movie.Nicotero is also known for directing many episodes of The Walking Dead, and that show featured heavily on Friday at SDCC. The first trailer for the upcoming Season 10 was released, and it was announced that three movies focusing on Andrew Lincoln's character Rick Grimes will be getting full theatrical releases.
