Multiplayer matches are going to be pretty variable in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. We've already seen the new Gunfight mode, which pits players against one another in tight quarters in quick two-on-two matches. And as part of its Modern Warfare multiplayer reveal, Infinity Ward also announced that the game will include huge matches full of tons of players, as well as super-small ones.Among the new Modern Warfare multiplayer modes is Ground War, a team battle mode that sports some big player counts. As art director Joel Emslie told GameSpot during Infinity Ward's multiplayer reveal event earlier this week, the game mode can support more than 100 players.Infinity Ward invited journalists to get hands-on with Modern Warfare's multiplayer, where we got a chance to try the Ground War mode. The scale was a bit smaller, though, topping out at 20 players on each team. The mode took advantage of Modern Warfare's new approach to map design, which emphasizes freestanding buildings, climbing, and power positions over the more common three-lane format. When we played Ground War, we found an intense, busy take on Modern Warfare's multiplayer. The winning team was the one that was able to coordinate its troops, and most importantly, take and hold key areas around the map with well-placed soldiers in high places. With so many players, Killstreaks were going off almost constantly, with UAVs and attack helicopters dotting the sky, while ground vehicles such as tanks crushed infantry fighters into the ground. A lot was going on, but with 20 players, Ground War presented tough competition, but wasn't necessarily overwhelming. With 100 players or more, though, one wonders just how big maps will need to be to accommodate all the chaos. While we didn't see too much of Ground War--or its largest matches--it sounds like there will be more chances to get acquainted with the mode soon. Infinity Ward is offering a Modern Warfare open beta in September. The beta will cover multiple dates, with one beta exclusive to PS4 players and a second one testing crossplay between PS4, Xbox One, and PC players.Check out our impressions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's multiplayer, and read more about its open beta and how the game is changing radar and Killstreaks. Ahead of its multiplayer reveal livestream for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Infinity Ward invited journalists to go hands-on with the game and thrash each other in matches as small as two-on-two and as large as 20-on-20. The focus was on competitive multiplayer and most of what it'll entail, and it seems Infinity Ward will show off even more in the game's open beta. But the event also provided a few new details about another Modern Warfare game mode: Special Ops.You might remember Special Ops (or Spec Ops) from past Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games. It was part of both Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3, but the mode hasn't shown up again since the latter's 2011 release. Spec Ops consisted of a series of quick, short missions that were geared toward cooperative play with a second person, and a lot of those missions were based on the single-player campaign. New elements popped up in Spec Ops that weren't in the single-player campaigns, like the armored Juggernaut, which makes a return in the new Modern Warfare. In Modern Warfare 3, Spec Ops added "Survival," a version that had players teaming up to fend off waves of enemies.Spec Ops is back in Modern Warfare as a cooperative game mode, but this time it sounds like it might be more substantive than in its past iterations. Publisher Activision calls Spec Ops an "all-new" group of "strategic" co-op missions that anyone can play, regardless of skill level. We also know that Spec Ops will tie into the story in some ways, although Infinity Ward hasn't been specific about just how yet. That suggests the Survival version isn't making a comeback."You might see different characters appearing in Spec Ops from the narrative and stories carry through," art director Joel Emslie told GameSpot during the multiplayer reveal event. One of the major focuses on Modern Warfare is to make the game feel more like a unified experience across its game modes, rather than separate multiplayer, single-player, and cooperative experiences in one package. All the game's modes take place in the same universe, and Emslie said you might be able to look over a cliff or into the distance on a multiplayer level to spot a location you'll recognize from single-player or co-op. The big way that Infinity Ward is unifying the experience, though, is through player progression and gameplay. Weapons feel the same from one mode to the next, and any attachments or equipment you earn as you play in one mode will be available in the others.Emslie said the main way Modern Warfare unites single-player and multiplayer is with the feel of the gameplay, while the main progression carry-over comes between multiplayer and Spec Ops.The inclusion of Spec Ops means we won't see another cooperative mode that's become a mainstay of the franchise, though: Infinity Ward confirmed there won't be a Zombies mode in Modern Warfare.Check out our impressions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's multiplayer, and read more about its open beta, how big teams can get, and how the game is changing radar and Killstreaks. Season 10--or Season X as Epic Games is calling it--of Fortnite: Battle Royale is officially underway. Epic has shaken things up considerably for this season. Not only has the map undergone some big changes, the way challenges work has also been completely revamped. Whereas past seasons gave all players access to a selection of weekly challenges, with additional tasks available to those who owned a Battle Pass, this season gates most of its challenges behind the pass, so you have no choice but to shell out 950 V-Bucks for one if you're hoping to get the most out of the game.Challenges are also structured much differently than before. In lieu of the standard weekly challenges, Epic is grouping this season's challenges together under different themes. These otherwise work much the same way as before. Each challenge you complete will score you Battle Stars, which will help level your Season X Battle Pass up and unlock this season's new skins and other rewards. One of the Road Trip challenges tasks you with visiting three different locations around the island: a Drift-painted Durr Burger Head, a dinosaur, and a Stone Head Statue. If you're unsure of where to find these, we've put together a guide of their locations below.Where To Visit Durr Burger Head, Dinosaur, And Stone Head StatueAs previously mentioned, this challenge simply involves visiting the three specified locations. You can go to these in any order, so this task should be easy enough to complete once you know where to look. The Durr Burger Head is located on a hill just east of Pleasant Park. The dinosaur can be found on the opposite end of the island; you'll spot it to the south of Paradise Palms. Finally, the Stone Head can be found near the frozen lake to the north of Polar Peak. It resembles a Moai statue (with a rocking chair inexplicably on top), so it should be easy enough to spot. Once you visit all three, you'll complete the challenge and earn 10 Battle Stars for your troubles.Durrr Burger Head, Dinosaur Statue, and Stone Head Statue locations 🦕🗿ðŸ”#Fortnite #GamerGirl #FortniteSeason10 pic.twitter.com/EiGxtawmU6 — Lydia Deneez (@LydiaDeneez) August 1, 2019For more Season X coverage, be sure to check out our Fortnite Season X hub, which we'll continue to update as the season progresses.Fortnite Season X ChallengesRoad TripVisit Drift-painted Durr Burger Head, a Dinosaur, and a Stone Head Statue (3)Deal damage to opponents while riding in a vehicle (200)Destroy stop signs with the Catalyst outfit (10)Info from Gamespot.com

In the days before its multiplayer reveal for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the game drew a new line of criticism. The derision arose from the inclusion of a chemical weapon called white phosphorus in the game. During Infinity Ward's press event in which we got hands-on with Modern Warfare's multiplayer, we also saw white phosphorus in action from a place on the game's battlefield.White phosphorus is a weapon sometimes used by the US military, mostly to blanket an area in harsh white smoke to obscure visibility and make it hard for infantry on the ground to continue fighting. But the weapon is also horrific in its real-world uses. White phosphorus ignites when it comes into contact with oxygen and it burns incredibly hot; coming into contact with it can melt skin and burn through both muscle and bone. The US has drawn criticism for using white phosphorus during the war in Iraq and while fighting the Islamic State. Human rights organizations point to the fact that, especially in urban areas, white phosphorus can be incredibly dangerous to civilians. The chemical is unpredictable and can reignite days or weeks after its use, potentially injuring noncombatants long after a battle is done. As NPR reports, white phosphorus is legal under the Chemical Weapons Convention so long as it's used to camouflage movement, and not as a weapon. In Modern Warfare, white phosphorus is a Killstreak reward, a special weapon you can access when you earn a long-enough streak beating opponents without dying. Here's Modern Warfare's description of the white phosphorus Killstreak:"Cover the battlefield with white smoke flare canisters that will disorient the enemy, and burn any that wander too close."We encountered white phosphorus when an opponent used the Killstreak on our team during a Ground War match, featuring two teams of 20 players each. The attack renders affected players' screens in black and white, as seen in the video above, and the gas deals a small amount of damage when you're caught in it. You're also slowed by the gas as your character continually coughs through it. In a practical sense, it's a lot harder to pick out enemy players. Eventually, the gas clears and things go back to normal, but the effect lasts a pretty long time. What we didn't encounter during the white phosphorus were the canisters, which the description says can burn players. Some of the criticism around the use of white phosphorus in Modern Warfare is the apparent disconnect between the idea of using a horrific real-world weapon for fun in competitive multiplayer and the more mature, authentic story Infinity Ward says it wants to tell in its single-player campaign.Art director Joel Emslie said during the Infinity Ward press event that Infinity Ward is trying to make Modern Warfare a realistic game by employing real-world weapons, equipment, and technology. He also pointed out that the multiplayer trailer shown to journalists ended with something that has appeared in Call of Duty games as a Killstreak reward before: a detonating nuclear bomb. And while Infinity Ward is trying to unify the Call of Duty experience across its single-player, multiplayer, and cooperative modes, Emslie said, ultimately each is working toward different goals."In the narrative experience you're using this landscape and this universe to make people care about these characters," he said. "And then when you're in the multiplayer space, you're trying to get them, using the same things in the same universe, to care more about the fun that they're having."...It's almost like having two different actors in the same film," he continued. "You might have a really dramatic, deep, disturbed character with a horrible past and all this trauma. "And then over here you've got another character that's devil may care, whatever. But I look at it that way. I almost look at the game as, it's three very different characters and actors in the same film, in the same play."Check out our impressions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's multiplayer, and read more about its open beta, how big teams can get, and how the game is changing radar and Killstreaks. Back from a 20-plus year hiatus, the original Diablo is available to play in your desktop browser. Though it's accessible for free, this browser-based version of the classic RPG does have a few limitations.GameSpot sister site CNET broke down the limitations in developer Rivsoft's shareware version of Diablo. You can only play as the warrior class, dungeon access is limited, and many of the game's other characters can't be talked to. Rivsoft say its version includes the original game's "bugs and badly written code."Diablo made its way to GOG back in March 2019. If you have files for the full game, you can add the DIABDAT.MPQ file to Rivsoft's version to gain full access to everything Diablo has to offer directly in your browser. The original Diablo launched in 1996 for PC. The sequel, Diablo 2, arrived just four years later. But it took more than a decade for the third entry, Diablo 3, to hit the market. For the past few years, Diablo 3 has seen limited-time events that grant rewards upon completion. (It also made its way to Nintendo Switch in November 2018, where the limited-time event appeared for the first time.) Diablo Immortal, the forthcoming title in the long-running RPG franchise, is in development for mobile.Info from Gamespot.com

How many theme parks are too many theme parks? That's a trick question because there's no such thing as "too many." Thankfully, Universal Studios agrees as it has announced is fourth Florida park, which is set to include hotels, shops, restaurants, an entertainment center, and--of course, rides. Universal's Epic Universe is the name given to the upcoming endeavor, which is being touted as a "new level of experience that forever changes theme park entertainment."What does that mean? It's not entirely clear as none of the park's rides or "lands" have been announced. However, Universal Parks and Resorts chairman and CEO Tim Williams explained in a release, "It will build on everything we have done and become the most immersive and innovative theme park we have ever created."Given the popularity of Universal's Wizarding World of Harry Potter lands and the new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland, immersive experiences are becoming more common with themed entertainment. Building an entire park with that in mind seems like a natural idea. While, as noted, nothing has been confirmed about what will be in the ark, there certainly are rumors. According to a report from Inside Universal, the property is expected to include attractions based on DreamWorks films, as well as the long-awaited Super Nintendo World.Super Nintendo World is believed to be coming to multiple Universal parks, with the land already under construction in Japan. The partnership between the video game giant and the theme park group was first announced in 2015, with rides coming based on popular Nintendo games--including Super Mario Kart. Any official confirmation of Super Nintendo Land's inclusion in Epic Universe will have to come at a later date.Epic Universe will nearly double Universal's Orland footprint--it's almost as big as the current Universal Studios Orlando, Islands of Adventure, hotels, and Citywalk shopping area--and will see 14,000 new employees hired to fill it. An opening date was not announced.Info from Gamespot.com

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is bringing back the acclaimed franchise with a reboot that aims to rethink what makes a gritty shooter set in real-world conflict. That means new additions and innovations to add layers of authenticity, and one of those is just a-door-able.It's doors. Yes, like the kind in your house. As detailed in our hands-on multiplayer impressions, the addition of functional doors makes a big difference in combat."You can use doors in a variety of ways, just by opening and closing them to create or eliminate sightlines," wrote Phil Hornshaw. "Opening a door while aiming down your gunsights lets you peek through--and maybe toss in a flashbang or grenade. Sliding into a door or using a melee attack lets you kick it in, potentially disorienting people on the other side, but it's a loud approach that gives away your position."Doors have other uses as well. They can be breached with explosives to make a flashy entrance, or you can hide claymores behind them to set a trap. Listening closely can give you information about enemy movements, and you can even snipe through them. It's just one example of how small and seemingly mundane changes can make for a more realistic experience and have an impact on gameplay. We have a lot more details out of our hands-on impressions and the accompanying multiplayer livestream, so check out even more Call of Duty: Modern Warfare coverage.Modern Warfare: You'll Have To Earn Your Radar In Call Of Duty's New MultiplayerModern Warfare Multiplayer: Rebuilding Call Of Duty From The Guns UpCall Of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer Can Support More Than 100 PlayersCall Of Duty: Modern Warfare -- Here's What We Know About Spec Ops ModeWe Saw White Phosphorus In Action In Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare -- Here's What HappenedCall Of Duty: Modern Warfare | Going Dark Multiplayer GameplayHow Modern Warfare Multiplayer Rebuilds The Franchise FormulaCall Of Duty: Modern Warfare Dark Edition Available To Pre-OrderInfo from Gamespot.com

Bungie has announced a new launch window for the major fall releases in Destiny 2, delaying the Shadowkeep expansion and New Light free-to-play version of the game. However, the game's upcoming cross save feature has not been pushed back along with them, and it will in fact be releasing this month."Being independent means that the future of Destiny 2 is entirely on our team," Destiny 2 director Luke Smith and general manager Mark Noseworthy wrote in a blog post. "It also means that we're agile enough to choose to do what's best for the game and our players, even if it's the hard choice." Previously scheduled for September 17, Destiny 2's Shadowkeep expansion and New Light version have been delayed to October 1.As a result of the delay, several other dates for Destiny 2 have changed as well. The next raid, Garden of Salvation, will now open up on October 5. The limited-time event Moments of Triumph is also being extended through September 17, providing more time for you to complete its challenges. Another Iron Banner event is being squeezed into Destiny 2's summer line-up too, beginning September 17. A more detailed schedule and upcoming update have now been revealed as well.An exact date for cross save hasn't been provided, though Smith and Noseworthy did teas it will release "well ahead" of the Shadowkeep expansion. Destiny 2 lead producer Jared Berbach tweeted that cross save can be expected to launch this month."We didn't make this decision lightly," Smith and Noseworthy wrote. "We know for some of you (us too), Destiny releases are events where you take time off of work or develop a sudden sickness that keeps you from school or work (we get it, a bunch of our team takes some time off to go on their own Destiny Jacket Quest)." The two promises that more information about what's coming to Destiny 2 in the fall will be announced next week. The final major content drop for Destiny 2: Year 2, Solstice of Heroes 2019, has just dropped. The event allows you to obtain the drained Solstice Armor, which can be upgraded into a more powerful energized state.Destiny 2 is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC and is also scheduled to release on Google Stadia.Info from Gamespot.com

While Fire Emblem: Three Houses doesn't have much in the way of romance, cultivating friendships with students and faculty is still a major part of the game. As a new professor at Garreg Mach monastery, sometimes you just gotta buy the love (and motivation) of the people around you. If you're not sure whether your favorite character will like the gift you got them, don't worry--we've tested it out so you don't have to face the shame of, "Oh. I guess I'll take it."Gift-giving is important for a number of reasons. A loved gift will sharply increase your support bond with the recipient, and if they're in your class, it will also increase their motivation gauge by 50 (out of 100). Keeping students motivated to learn means you'll be able to instruct them more, and improving bonds is a crucial part of recruiting new students and improving your joint performance on the battlefield. A basic gift will also give you a minor support boost and a smaller motivation increase, but as with most things in Three Houses, you should strive to get the most bang for your buck.To start off, literally everyone in the game likes Owl Feathers. If you're at a total loss for what to give someone (or you're just out of relevant gifts), it's a great plan B. You can find Owl Feathers around the monastery. As for flowers, you can plant flower seeds in the Greenhouse and harvest them for your gift-giving needs the next time you explore. The rest of these gifts can be purchased from various merchants, mainly the Eastern and Western Merchants in the monastery's marketplace. Note that this list is not comprehensive; we'll update with more gifts as we continue to test them out.Black EaglesEdelgard (Black Eagles only): Armored Bear Stuffy, Monarch Studies BookHubert (Black Eagles only): Coffee Beans, Board GameFerdinand: Tea Leaves, Riding BootsCaspar: Smoked Meat, WhetstoneLinhardt: Fishing Float, Tasty Baked TreatDorothea: Stylish Hair ClipBernadetta: Armored Bear Stuffy, Pitcher Plant, Watering Can, Dapper Handkerchief, Landscape PaintingPetra: Smoked Meat, Hunting DaggerBlue LionsDimitri (Blue Lions only): Whetstone, Training WeightDedue (Blue Lions only): Watering CanAshe: Exotic Spices, Legends of Chivalry, VioletSylvain: Dapper Handkerchief, Board GameIngrid: Legends of Chivalry, Riding BootsFelix: Ceremonial Sword, Hunting DaggerAnnette: Stylish Hair ClipMercedes: Armored Bear Stuffy, Goddess StatuetteGolden DeerClaude (Golden Deer only): Riding BootsHilda (Golden Deer only): Anemone, Armored Bear StuffyLeonie: Fishing Float, Training WeightLysithea: Lily, Tasty Baked Treat, Armored Bear StuffyIgnatz: Landscape Painting, Goddess Statuette, Ancient Coin, Forget-me-notsRaphael: Smoked Meat, Tasty Baked TreatLorenz: Rose, Floral AdornmentMarianne: Armored Bear Stuffy, Floral AdornmentOtherHanneman: Dapper HandkerchiefCatherine: Whetstone, Legends of ChivalryShamir: Coffee Beans, SunflowerGilbert: Goddess Statuette, Ceremonial SwordRhea: Landscape Painting, Goddess Statuette, Ancient CoinSeteth: Fishing Float, Dapper HandkerchiefCyril: Smoked Meat, Watering CanAlois: Floral Adornment, Fishing Float, Ancient Coin, SunflowerManuela: Goddess StatuetteFlayn: Forget-me-notsFor more Fire Emblem: Three Houses tips, check out our guide to recruiting students, our best tips for sharing meals, and our rundown of how gardening works. There's a lot to like in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's multiplayer offering. Infinity Ward showed off the competitive mode to journalists ahead of its multiplayer reveal livestream, where we got a chance to engage in 20-on-20 battles, try out new Killstreaks, customize all our guns, and drive tanks. The coolest new addition to Call of Duty multiplayer, though, is probably Modern Warfare's take on night-vision goggles. The game supports day and night versions of several maps, and we played a match on a version of the map "Caves," blanketed in darkness. Fighting at night completely changes the feel of the map--as you move through it, you have to decide whether to use goggles for heightened visibility or to take them off in favor of natural light sources that might blow out the goggles' optics. There's also a hardcore version of the mode that removes your heads-up display information, making the darkness more intrusive and your time in the goggles even more realistic. Check out our gameplay with Modern Warfare's night-vision googles in the video above.Using night-vision gives you the ability to see in the dark, but it also has its drawbacks. Modern Warfare takes into account the size of the goggles when you're wearing them. If you were wearing NVGs in the real world and tried to look into a gun scope, the gun would bang into the goggles. That's the case in Modern Warfare, too, so when you draw up your gun to aim down its sights while wearing NVGs, the weapon rests about halfway up, instead. It's more accurate than aiming from the hip, but not quite as useful as normal ADS. That creates a tradeoff situation you'll have to adapt to if you want to be effective in the dark. However, you can also fully customize all your weapons in Modern Warfare. Opting for smaller sights can get the optics out of the way and let you pull the rifle up to aim properly. The goggles also significantly change how you think about engagements with other players. On NVG maps, guns come with infrared targeting lasers that are invisible to the naked eye but become fully visible in the goggles. The lasers only appear when you hit the ADS button, taking up the role your scope would otherwise occupy. The trouble is that if you can see your laser while using night-vision, so can anyone else who's wearing goggles. Your laser then becomes something of a liability: Whenever you ADS, you're not only sighting in a target, you're also revealing your location to anyone who can see the laser. During its multiplayer press event, Infinity Ward developers discussed how real-world soldiers practice "laser discipline" to make sure their lasers aren't giving them away. You'll need to do the same thing in Modern Warfare--but the intel you get from other players who aren't as careful about their aim can help you set up ambushes and take advantage.Of course, whenever you're using NVGs, you have to worry about being blinded by sudden flashes of light. That can push you to change up your loadout choices. Guns with big muzzle flashes can blow out your goggles somewhat (as well as those of your opponents), while flashbangs are even more hazardous to anybody too close to them. And of course, you need to be careful about any light sources around you that might disorient you.It seems a minor change, but thanks to the attention to detail Infinity Ward has put on its night-vision tech, flipping a map from day to night significantly changes up Modern Warfare's gameplay. Suddenly, a lot of tactical decisions you don't make during the day, like where to move between light and darkness, and when to risk taking aim, dominate your decision-making. The night-vision goggles of Modern Warfare feel very authentic, and all the pros and cons they bring mean adapting to new strategies. The inclusion of night-vision bucks the multiplayer formula just enough to add exactly the kind of fresh dynamics Infinity Ward is going for with Modern Warfare.Check out our impressions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's multiplayer, and read more about its open beta, how big teams can get, and how the game is changing radar and Killstreaks. Respawn's upcoming VR game will be announced next month. Not too much is known about the game, though Respawn has been adamant that it is not the "premium" Titanfall experience that it's also been working on.In a blog post, the Oculus team announced Respawn's new VR game would be revealed at this year's Oculus Connect, which is scheduled for September 25-26. The game is described as a "triple-A first-person combat title made in partnership with Oculus Studios." A hands-on demo will be available at Oculus Connect.Respawn has a proven track record with first-person action games, being the developer behind Titanfall, Titanfall 2, and Apex Legends. However, this unannounced title is the studio's first foray into VR. Respawn hasn't said whether this VR game is a spin-off of the Titanfall franchise, like Apex Legends, or a brand-new story for the studio.Alongside this VR game, Respawn is currently creating a limited-time event for Apex Legends: Season 2, beginning work on Apex Legends: Season 3, and finishing up on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order--all of which are scheduled for this year. Fallen Order stands to be the developer's biggest project of the year, delivering a Metroid Prime-inspired Star Wars experience that also utilizes a similar combat system to From Software's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.Speaking of Star Wars, ILMxLAB will also be at Oculus Connect 2019 to talk about Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series. The first episode of the Oculus Quest exclusive VR experience was received very well by fans and critics alike, containing fun lightsaber mechanics and a never-before-seen canonical story about Darth Vader's quest to bring Padme back to life. Episode 2 will allow users to use the Force.Info from Gamespot.com

It's finally August, which means Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive edition will officially be out next month, on September 27. And fortunately for those planning to pick it up on day one, it seems Dragon Quest XI S is being included as part of Amazon and Walmart's ongoing pattern of discounting games to $49.94 before they've even released. The fact that it's labeled as the number one best-selling Switch game on Amazon right now may have something to do with such an early price drop.
