Ben Irving, the lead producer on BioWare's action-RPG Anthem, has announced he's leaving the company. In a statement on Twitter, Irving said that he has accepted a position with another company and that the game still has a "bright future" under current leadership. In his series of tweets, Irving says BioWare was his "dream place" to work since the first time he played Baldur's Gate. He thanks the Anthem community for being so engaged "through the good times and the tough times," and says they're in good hands with Jesse Anderson and Andrew Johnson. It's unclear, from his statement, who will be filling the lead producer role for future Anthem updates. He also referenced an opportunity at a new developer, but has not specified where.(1/3) After 8 amazing years at BioWare I have made the decision to move on and have accepted an exciting opportunity at another gaming company. Though dormant for over a decade, Power Stone remains one of the most memorable games Capcom has ever released. There may not be any definitive plans to bring back the series, but the game's producer would love to see the quirky 3D brawler make a return--especially on Nintendo Switch. In an interview with The Guardian, designer Hideaki Itsuno broke down how Power Stone came into existence. By assembling arcade and console developers for a project way outside Capcom's usual wheelhouse, the Dreamcast brawler aimed to be "something that would be well received by players other than just hardcore fighting fans," according to Itsuno. It seems to have worked, as Power Stone producer Takeshi Tezuka reports "still get[ting] messages from fans" about the much-loved series.Tezuka says some of these messages come in the form requests for him to bring Power Stone back. "People tweet requests to me to make another Power Stone, which I'd love to do if I got the chance," Tezuka told the Guardian. "It would be a particularly great fit for the Nintendo Switch."Power Stone debuted in 1999 for arcades and the Sega Dreamcast. The game made such a splash for Capcom that an anime adaptation was approved and aired from April to September of 1999. About a year and a half later, the sequel, Power Stone 2, made its way to the same platforms. Six years later, in October/November 2006, the PlayStation Portable saw the Power Stone Collection, a two-pack featuring ports of both Power Stone titles. In our Power Stone review, we said, "All in all, Power Stone is a very fun and unconventional fighter. However, the excitement is short lived."In our Power Stone 2 review, we said, "Fans of the original Power Stone will be pleased with the similar, yet definitely enhanced feel of Power Stone 2. As a four-player game, it's definitely one of the wildest fighters to come to the Dreamcast."Info from Gamespot.com

Bethesda surprised gamers with releases of Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 3 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One during QuakeCon 2019. While exciting, fans quickly discovered that all three re-releases required a Bethesda.net account to access the game and/or certain features. A new patch now provides the option to skip the login altogether.Bethesda tweeted that a new update for Doom and Doom 2 lets you skip the Bethesda login screen. The patch will also remove the message that you have disconnected from the server during gameplay, letting you slaughter demons in heavy metal peace. We’ve deployed a patch for the re-releases of DOOM and DOOM II, which now adds an option to skip the Bethesda net login requirement and removes the disconnect notification during gameplay. pic.twitter.com/KtlbRvmRyJ — Bethesda (@bethesda) August 15, 2019While there isn't a release date yet, Bethesda says it's working on a permanent fix to "reduce [the login's] visibility." Bethesda notes that the login is optional, though several outlets--including Eurogamer and Kotaku--have pointed out that though Doom and Doom 2 can be played offline, an internet connection and a Bethesda account are required once before playing either title offline. We are working on a more permanent fix to further reduce the visibility of the optional login. We do not have an estimated release just yet, but we'll let you know as soon as we can. Thank you for your feedback! — Bethesda (@bethesda) August 15, 2019Bethesda and developer Id Software are gearing up for the hellish release of Doom Eternal, which is expected to launch for Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 22. Week 3 of Fortnite Season X has arrived, which means there's a new set of challenges for players to complete in Epic's popular battle royale game. This week's batch of missions is called Worlds Collide, and as its name suggests, many of its challenges hearken back to Season 5, revolving around Rifts and even the infamous purple cube.As has been the trend this season, only three of the Worlds Collide challenges are available from the outset, with additional missions unlocking as you complete them. Fortunately, the initial batch is fairly straightforward, tasking you with using a Rift, visiting a Rift Zone, and dealing damage to opponents either at the Viking Village or Loot Lake. Most of the other Worlds Collide challenges are equally straightforward, but one has you visiting a memorial to Kevin the Cube, which infamously arrived partway through Season 5 and rolled around the island before transforming Loot Lake. You can see the full list of Week 3 Worlds Collide challenges below. Once you've cleared all the challenges, you'll unlock "Prestige" versions of them, which often impose an extra condition to make them tougher to complete.Unlike previous seasons, the World Collide challenges are only available to those who own a Season X Battle Pass. In the past, Epic offered a few challenges for free to all players this week, but this season, the studio has gated most of the missions behind the pass, so you'll need to pick one up before you can set off on these challenges. You can find all of our tips and guides in our full Season X challenges roundup.Epic recently rolled out Fortnite's 10.10 update, which brought back Retail Row and kicked off a new limited-time mode called World Run. The patch also nerfed the Plastic Patroller skin; it now sports some visible mud smears and wear and tear so that players no longer blend in quite as well with the environment.Fortnite Season X, Week 3 Worlds Collide ChallengesUse a Rift (1)Visit a Rift Zone (1)Deal damage to opponents at a mountaintop Viking Village or Loot Lake (200)Visit a memorial to a cube in the desert or by a lake (1)Eliminate opponents in the desert (3)Search chests at Loot Lake (3)Consume foraged mushrooms (10)Info from Gamespot.com

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remains one of the most beloved entries in the long-running open-world RPG franchise. Now, some decade later, a new fan-made mod seeks to capitalize on this adoration, bringing the world of Cyrodiil into the The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim engine.Skyblivion, a mod created by a group of volunteers known as TESRenewal, is a project aiming to bring Oblivion "to a new generation of gamers and re-introduce it to long time fans of the series" by rebuilding and baking Cyrodiil (and all of Oblivion's DLC) into the Skyrim and Skyrim: Special Edition engines. As expected, this means you must legitimately own Oblivion, Skyrim, and all DLC for both games. Otherwise, Skyblivion will be inaccessible. After meeting the above requirements, accessing Skyblivion is simple. You download it from Nexus, Steam Workshop, or Bethesda mods, install it, launch Skyrim, and create a new character. From there, Skyblivion--and all of its rebuilt assets, including Oblivion's creatures, locations, quests, create-a-class system, spellmaking mechanic, and more--will be available and you will be able to travel between Cyrodiil, Morrowind, and Skyrim freely. There's no release date for Skyblivion, but it will be 100 percent free when it does arrive on PC. Unfortunately, due to its size, TESR says the mod won't launch on consoles. Even still, progress is being made steadily, as the mod's exterior map is almost complete.Info from Gamespot.com

If you've held off on picking up Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle or Starlink: Battle for Atlas Starter Pack, you'll want to take advantage of what might be the best Nintendo Switch deal we've seen all week: a bundle with both products selling for only $30 at Best Buy right now. Normally listed at $120 ($60 for each product), that's a whopping $90 savings. This daily deal won't be around long, however--according to the countdown timer, the deal ends at 10 PM PT / 1 AM ET.Starlink: Battle for Atlas Starter Pack, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle bundle$30 ($120)See deal at Best BuyThe Starlink: Battle for Atlas Starter Pack (which is on sale for $33 individually at Amazon, for comparison) includes the Starlink action-adventure game as well as physical elements that actually attach to your controller and impact gameplay, such as a starship, weapons, controller mount, and pilot. The Nintendo Switch version also comes with a Fox McCloud pilot and an exclusive mission. The game itself received a 7/10 in GameSpot's Starlink: Battle for Atlas review, in which one of the main criticisms was how expensive the game's physical models are. "Starlink is an interesting and enjoyable open-world game, one that fully understands the appeal of exploring new planets and dogfighting in the cold depths of space," wrote critic James O'Connor. "With a small fleet of ships at your disposal, it can be a lot of fun to progressively assault and weaken the Forgotten Legion's hold on the galaxy. It's just a shame that if you're interested in the physical models, you'll have to spend more to get the same experience as the digital version."You'll also get Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle as part of the bundle, a crossover between the Mario and Raving Rabbids franchises created for Nintendo Switch. Mario + Rabbids, a turn-based tactical game with both single-player and co-op gameplay, has sold extremely well on the Switch, breaking into the console's top 10 bestsellers list, and it earned an impressive 9/10 in GameSpot's Mario + Rabbids review."Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle exudes off-beat optimism that never dissolves. It's a consistent delight, no matter how challenging the road becomes, because Kingdom Battle's unique turn-based tactics system is in every way a pleasure to engage with," wrote GameSpot's Edmond Tran. "Coupled with the annoyingly infectious allure of Rabbids, and the always delightful, colorful world of the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is an implausibly engrossing formula that is positively challenging and endlessly charming."Info from Gamespot.com

When the Being the Elite YouTube series first launched in May 2016, it was mostly a travelogue for professional wrestlers The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. However, as the show evolved, storylines and new characters were introduced--including the likes of Cody Rhodes, "Hangman" Adam Page, and several other faces familiar to fans of All Elite Wrestling. In fact, as far as AEW is concerned, a big part of how the promotion is coming together is due to the popularity of AEW and the notoriety it's brought the Elite, the group of wrestlers regularly featured on the show. With AEW debuting its show on TNT in the fall, though, many fans have wondered if that will mean the end of Being the Elite. Thankfully, as the Bucks and Omega have confirmed to GameSpot, that is not the case."I think BTE is important. And I was talking to someone about this the other day. On this show on TNT we can only do it say certain things," Matt Jackson said during an interview at the TCA press tour. "On YouTube, we can do whatever the hell we want. Maybe you want to watch Frankie Kazarian go on an F-bomb tirade like he always does. You're not going to be able to see that on TNT."What's more, Jackson realizes how important BTE has been to the success he and his friends have achieved. "The whole Elite brand is cultivated through the show, right? We created this cult following because the show, and I don't think a lot of the stuff we've done and our own successes with our brand--like we probably would have never gotten to the Hot Topic deals, probably wouldn't ever got the Funko Pops," he explained. "All that stuff happened, I think, because these three silly guys were in Japan bored, and we took out our cell phones; we started videoing bits of ourselves. And it exploded, and our popularity just went nuts."Even with BTE sticking around though, continuing to help grow the popularity of the Elite brand, and by extension All Elite Wrestling, there might be some serious upgrades in store for the YouTube Series."One of the cool things that we actually have access to now which [we could] never do before when we were in Japan [is] we can actually use our backstage area," Omega teased. "We can use you know POV [camera] shots at ringside. These are things that we can do at our leisure now, which is kind of nice. So you might even see it sort of a new layer of creativity with episodes once [AEW] TV goes live."Still, Jackson noted that even if filming opportunities may be upgraded, the show's actual content will still be on-brand for the Elite. "You can see other sides of these crazy characters and how they act," he said. "Maybe a little more sense of humor on [BTE], while watching our more sports-centric show on cable TV."Take a character like Jon Moxley, for instance. "On the [TNT] show, you'll see a Jon Moxley type of character [that] is going to be a little darker, right? But if you want to see him have a little bit more of a sense of humor, then you can go to the YouTube show and still watch that," Jackson explained. "It can feed everything."That's just one of the ways AEW is trying to be a pro wrestling alternative fans can look to if they want to sample something different. Whether it'll work out in the end, but with AEW on TNT premiering on October 2, it shouldn't take too long to find out.Info from Gamespot.com

If you missed the Nintendo World Championships that streamed ahead of E3 2019, then you're in luck. CBS has partnered with television show ELeague to bring the championship series directly to your TV screen later this month. The Nintendo World Championship series, which streamed on June 8, will air on Sunday, August 25 at 10 AM PT / 12 PM CST / 1 PM ET / 6 PM BST. Two more episodes of the series will broadcast a couple weeks later on September 7 at 11 AM PT / 1 PM CST / 2 PM ET / 7 PM BST and September 14 at 10:30 AM PT / 12:30 PM CST / 1:30 PM ET / 6:30 PM BST.This year's Nintendo World Championships was comprised of three tentpole Nintendo Switch games: Splatoon 2, Super Mario Maker 2, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Each game consisted of set matches and rules where players compete to be crowned the champion. The full, nearly seven-hour livestream can be viewed on Nintendo's official YouTube channel. All three titles have received some fairly recent updates. Not long after Dragon Quest's Hero DLC release, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate saw a new patch that significantly changed many of the game's fighters. Super Mario Maker 2's previous 32-level upload limit has been doubled, allowing you to share upwards of 64 levels online instead. Though Splatoon 2 won't get anymore Splatfest's for the foreseeable future, the game's new update introduced a Splatfest option to private battles.Bringing this year's Nintendo World Championship series to TV isn't the first partnership between CBS and ELeague. The two worked together on a three-part Super Smash. Bros Ultimate Invitational 2018 series, which aired in the same year.Disclosure: CBS is the parent company of GameSpot.Info from Gamespot.com

The new Nintendo Switch with a better battery life is out in the wild--identifiable by its bright red box. A trade-in offer at GameStop makes it relatively cheap to upgrade. But as a number of would-be customers have wondered or pointed out, transferring your Nintendo Switch data can be quite the process, and there's no guarantee a retailer will cooperate to help you do it.First, despite the cloud save backup offered by the Nintendo Switch Online service, this isn't the same as having your entire profile and user data stored on the cloud, and a number of games aren't compatible with cloud saves. The most foolproof way of transferring all of your data to a new Switch is to use the recommended transfer system, which requires having both consoles along with a number of other implements. As detailed on the Nintendo Help site, both consoles will need to be updated to system 4.0.0 or higher, and they both need to be connected to the Internet. According to CNET's Ashley Esqueda, you also need two AC adapters since both Nintendo Switches need to be plugged in. Once you migrate your data from the source console to the target console, you can no longer access the user information, save data, or software purchases on the source console. In short, this would mean that to pull off the full transfer in a GameStop store, you would need the store manager to allow you to open the new console, plug in both systems, connect to WiFi, perform the transfer, and then trade in the old console toward the purchase of the new one that you've already opened. Esqueda found a store willing to allow her to do all this, but your mileage may vary.Alternatively, you can purchase a new console, go home to perform the transfer, and then bring the old one back for $225 in store credit, or $185 in cash. That makes the deal a bit less appealing, since it requires you to eat the cost for store credit or accept less in trade value.GameSpot has reached out to GameStop regarding this offer and how customers could more easily make the swap.Info from Gamespot.com

The NPD Group today released its monthly sales chart for July 2019, revealing the best-selling games and consoles of the month in the US. There are pretty much no surprises in the report, though there are several notable takeaways and key points to consider.Starting with game sales, Madden NFL 20 was the best-selling title across all platforms. It is a notable achievement given that the game's official release date was August 2, just one day before the NPD's July reporting period ended on August 3. According to the NPD Group, 2019 marks the 20th straight year that the year's Madden release was No. 1 during its launch month. No sales numbers of Madden NFL 20 were announced (the NPD report never shares actual sales numbers for any games) but Electronic Arts separately shared some additional insight. The company said it sold more digital copies of Madden NFL 20 during its launch-week than physical ones; that's the first time in history that's happened.Fire Emblem: Three Houses was No. 2 in July 2019; it recorded the highest first-month sales for a Fire Emblem game of all time in the US. Very importantly, digital sales for Three Houses are not included, but whether or not including those would have been enough to unseat Madden as No. 1 is unknown. First-month sales of Three Houses tripled the sales of the previous record-holder, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. Three Houses now trails only Fire Emblem: Awakening in terms of lifetime US sales.Rounding out the top five best-sellers for July 2019 were Super Mario Maker 2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, Minecraft, and Grand Theft Auto V. Mortal Kombat 11, which was released in April, sold well again in July (finishing No. 8), and the game remains the best-selling title overall for 2019 so far in the US.You can see a list of July 2019's top-selling games at the bottom of this post.Total spending on games during July 2019 came out to $340 million, which is up 34 percent compared to the same month last year. The big uptick was due primarily to the fact that Madden NFL 20 was released during the July reporting period (July 7-August 3) this year compared to the historical release during the August tracking period.Looking at 2019 so far, total spending on games has reached $2.9 billion, with Switch and PlayStation 4 (but not Xbox One) seeing sales growth.Moving to hardware, the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console platform in July; it's been on top for months now, and the hybrid consoles is still 2019's overall best-selling platform over PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (which are relatively much older).Total spending on consoles in July 2019 dropped 22 percent to $169 million, while total hardware sales for 2019 so far are down 21 percent to $1.5 billion. Every console platform experienced declines in July, and on a year-to-date basis, only the Switch is growing. This is all mostly to be expected, as the PS4 and Xbox One are in the final stages of their lifecycles with next-generation systems expected to release in Holiday 2020. It's a historical pattern for sales to not only decline over time but especially so when new platforms are announced as consumers hold off their purchases in anticipation of the new boxes coming out.Total spending on video games--comprising consoles, games, and accessories--amounted to $762 million for July 2019 in the US; that's up "slightly" from $759 million in July 2018. On a year-to-date basis, total spending fell 4 percent to $6.4 billion.July 2019 Top Selling GamesMadden NFL 20^Fire Emblem: Three Houses*Super Mario Maker 2*Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order*Minecraft#Grand Theft Auto VSuper Smash Bros. A new batch of Season X challenges has arrived in Fortnite: Battle Royale. This week's set is dubbed Worlds Collide, a callback to the tagline of Season 5, and its tasks fittingly revolve around objects from that season, such as rifts. One of the challenges asks you to visit a Rift Zone. If you're not sure where those can be found, we've put together this map and guide to help you out.Where Are The Rift Zone Locations?Rift Zones were one of the new environmental features introduced at the start of Season X, and they're capable of transforming an area of the island--as we saw earlier this week, when a Rift Zone reverted Mega Mall to Retail Row following the game's 10.10 update. There are only two Rift Zones thus far--one at the aforementioned Retail Row, the other at Tilted Town--although more may crop up as the season progresses. In the meantime, you can see where all of the current Rift Zones are located on the map below. How To Complete The ChallengeOnce you know where the Rift Zones are located, this challenge is simply a matter of going to that area. You only need to visit one of the zones to complete the task, so pick an area, then glide there at the start of a match to clear the challenge. You can watch us do the mission in the video at the top of this guide. It's important to note that this challenge is unrelated to another one from the Worlds Collide set that asks you to use a Rift. To complete that one, you'll need to find a Rift and activate it to warp to a different part of the map. There are several of those scattered around the island; we've jotted down their locations below. On a hill east of Pleasant Park, near the Durr Burger headIn the middle of Loot LakeOn an icy island in the southwestern corner of the mapEast of the Viking Village, just north of the frozen lakeJust north of Paradise PalmsBe sure to also check out our full Fortnite Season X challenges roundup, which we'll continue to update as this season progresses with additional tips and guides for Fortnite's trickier missions.Fortnite Season X CoverageFortnite Season 10 Battle Pass: Skins, Price, How It Works, And MoreFortnite Season 10 Battle Pass Rewards: Skins, Emotes, Back Bling, Pets, And MoreFortnite Season 10 Update Notes: BRUTE Mech, Rift Zones, And MoreFortnite Season 10: Big Changes To How Daily & Weekly Challenges WorkFortnite Season 10 Map Changes: Rift Zones, Comet, Skeleton, And MoreFortnite 10.00 Content Update: Titled Town, Automatic Sniper Rifle, And MoreInfo from Gamespot.com

Epic has rolled out a new set of Season X challenges for Fortnite: Battle Royale. This week's batch of tasks is called Worlds Collide, a reference to Season 5's tagline, and many of the challenges revolve around elements from that season, such as the infamous purple cube known affectionately by the community as Kevin. The cube has returned--sort of--in one of this week's tasks, which asks you to visit a cube memorial in the desert or by a lake. Here's where to find one and how to complete the challenge.Where Are The Cube Memorial Locations? There are two memorials to Kevin the cube around the island, both in places the cube visited when it first appeared on the island back in Season 5. The first can be found on a plateau to the southwest of Paradise Palms, where it originally materialized, while the second is located near Loot Lake, which the cube infamously plunged into and transformed at the end of Season 5. We've marked down both cube memorial locations on the map below. How To Complete The ChallengeOnce you know where the cube memorials are located, you only need to visit one of them in order to complete the challenge, so pick your preferred spot and glide there at the beginning of a match for the quickest results. However, if you're hoping to clear the Prestige version of this challenge, you'll need to visit both memorials within a single match. Your best bet for that is to start at the desert; if you're lucky, an ATK will spawn nearby, allowing you to make your way to the other memorial quickly. You can watch us complete the standard version of the challenge in the video above. You can also find other tips and guides for this season's trickier missions in our Fortnite Season X challenges roundup. Playtonic has, in its own cheeky way, announced a release window for Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, the upcoming second game in the series. The game will release in October, although a specific day within October has not been clarified. The news came via a video tweeted out by the official Playtonic Twitter account, along with the caption "Good things are coming in October..." In a follow-up tweet, the developer said that the music in the original video was from a new Grant Kirkhope track that will be released in full next week.Good things are coming in October... pic.twitter.com/Qn9JykH2Ws — Playtonic (@PlaytonicGames) August 15, 2019The new game, announced in June, is a 2.5D platformer created by many of the key talents who were behind the original Donkey Kong Country. It'll mix platforming and puzzles, and a sidescrolling platforming sections with a 3D top-down overworld. If it's anything like the original Yooka-Laylee, it'll be full of retro throwbacks. The game is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC.In her 6/10 review of the original Yooka-Laylee, Kallie Plagge said that "despite attempts at modernizing the formula, its style of gameplay is still outdated, and it doesn’t stay challenging or interesting for long as a result."Info from Gamespot.com
