During Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2019, Everspace 2 was announced via a new trailer. The sequel to the beloved space roguelike seemingly improves upon the original game in several ways, but don't expect to be able to play it anytime soon.In the trailer, which can be watched below, several new ship designs are shown off. This time, the ships all seem to be different variations of the same craft, possibly suggesting that you may be building your spaceship off of the same design instead of three distinct models like in the first Everspace. The environments appear to be a lot more varied too, with different planets and stars acting as the backdrop to certain locations. We see ships pull off maneuvers that are more daring than what was seen in the first game as well, such as speeding through tight caverns and banking between the floating debris of a destroyed space station. It's not all different though. Several familiar weapons and ship upgrades appear in the trailer, like the Beam Laser, Gatling gun, and Cloak device. Everspace 2 appears to feature its predecessor's gameplay loop too. However, it's unclear if Everspace 2 will utilize the same type of non-linear storytelling to convey its narrative. We'll have a long wait to find out, as the trailer for Everspace 2 reveals that the game isn't scheduled to release until 2021. Everspace 2 will be available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.In Everspace, you outfit your ship with weapons and gadgets based on the resources you have before heading out into space. You jump from one section of space to another, trying to reach the opposite side of the galaxy by scavenging for fuel and additional resources at each jump location--taking the time to destroy enemy ships and upgrade your own if you'd like. Upon death, you're sent back to the beginning and lose all of your upgrades, but you keep the resources you've collected. The hope is to make it further in each run, collecting enough resources to craft a stronger starting ship each time you die.Everspace is an absolutely incredible game, and one worth playing if you haven't already. It's available on Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch. On Xbox One, Everspace is free with a Game Pass subscription.Info from Gamespot.com

Xbox Game Pass for PC was announced and launched during E3 2019 and has since accrued a significant library of awesome games. These include first-party titles like Forza Horizon 4 and Sea of Thieves, in addition to third-party games like Metro Exodus, Prey, and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. Now, Alienware is giving away free one-month keys for the program. You can claim your free month of Xbox Game Pass for PC here, but you should act fast: there's less than 4,000 codes left at the time of writing. You'll need to sign up for an Alienware Arena account, which shouldn't take long but has been causing some people (including myself) a little trouble due to the volume of people visiting the site. Once you login or create your account, you can claim your key and redeem it in the Xbox app (you may need to update your Windows 10 PC to access it).Get your free month hereThankfully, if you're an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber like myself, you're still eligible to redeem your free-month code. There is a catch, however. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate bundles Xbox Live Gold with Xbox Game Pass for both the Xbox One and PC, and if you redeem your free-month code for the PC version of Game Pass, it converts it into 20 days of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. In related news, new subscribers can get two months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $2. That's an awesome deal for a subscription service that grants you access to a bunch of games on both Xbox One and PC. Some of my favourite games from this year are included--Metro Exodus and Void Bastards--and you can also expect to see Gears 5 hit the service on September 10. You can see some of the latest additions to Xbox Game Pass here.Info from Gamespot.com

Gamescom 2019 is officially in full swing, and plenty of excellent new trailers have already premiered. With so many new cinematic and gameplay trailers making their debut, we've decided to compile our favorites. Be sure to check back here throughout Gamescom as more trailers are released. We've put our favorites that actually feature gameplay first, but that doesn't make the cinematic trailers any less cool. Other than that distinction, the trailers aren't listed in any particular order. Although there were many trailers for triple-A titles scheduled to launch in the Fall 2019 season, most of the best trailers at Gamescom have been for indie games. Notable titles include Everspace 2--sequel to one of the best roguelike games of 2016--and pinbrawler Creature in the Well. However, there are quite a few standouts for the major releases too, such as Destiny 2 and Death Stranding--the latter of which got three new trailers.Best Gameplay Gamescom TrailersCreature In The WellCreature in the Well sees you play as a cute robot engineer who must stop a monstrous entity that has destroyed the weather machine that keeps the town of Mirage safe from vicious sandstorms. In the Creature in the Well 101 trailer, creative director Adam Volker walks through how the game works--a hack-and-slash dungeon crawler imbued with pinball mechanics.Darksiders GenesisDarksiders Genesis reworks the franchise's Zelda-like combat and exploration into a top-down hack-and-slash RPG. Fully playable in co-op--which can be seen in the new trailer--you and a friend can team up as two of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Strife and War. This will be the first game in the Darksiders franchise to focus on Strife.Death StrandingDeath Stranding finally has a gameplay trailer. Unfortunately, the story for the game is still about as clear as mud. We're still excited to see what Hideo Kojima has in store with this upcoming PS4 exclusive, largely because its gameplay seems rife for hilarious misadventures and odd moments.Everspace 2Announced at Gamescom, Everspace 2 won't release until 2021, but its gameplay trailer already makes the game look really cool. Though Everspace seems to be adding new locations and ship designs, plenty of weapons and gadgets look familiar.Little Nightmares 2Speaking of surprising sequels, the story of Little Nightmares will continue in Little Nightmares II. This sequel puts you in control of a brand-new character and takes place in a much more open area than the first game.Best Cinematic Gamescom TrailersDestiny 2: Shadowkeep - Season Of The UndyingThe first seasonal content drop for the Shadowkeep expansion for Destiny 2, titled Season of the Undying, starts October 5. In the latest trailer, a brief cinematic sees Ikora Rey narrate as an army of Vex emerges from a portal connected to the Black Garden.DisintegrationPublisher Private Division--the same studio attached to upcoming games like The Outer Worlds and Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey--announced Disintegration at Gamescom, and also released a new trailer for the sci-fi first-person shooter. Though mostly a cinematic trailer, there is some gameplay thrown in there too.Death StrandingDeath Stranding got two new cinematic trailers during Gamescom, both of which further fleshed out two of the game's characters. The first focuses on Mama, while the second sees main character Sam meet Deadman. Info from Gamespot.com

During Gamescom this week, Sony announced that they had bought Insomniac Games, officially bringing the developers behind Ratchet & Clank and Marvel's Spider-Man into the Sony fold. The studio, which released Sunset Overdrive as an Xbox One exclusive in 2014 (before the game was eventually ported to PC) will now develop for Sony.In the wake of this announcement, Sony games studio chairman Shawn Layden spoke to Bloomberg about Sony's focus on exclusives, stating that they are an important part of the company's overall strategy. However, he also said that certain titles - especially multiplayer titles - could potentially receive a wider release rather than being kept exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and/or 5."We must support the PlayStation platform -- that is nonnegotiable...That said, you will see in the future some titles coming out of my collection of studios which may need to lean into a wider installed base," he told Bloomberg.Note that this doesn't necessarily mean that PlayStation games will start appearing on Xbox or Switch - we don't expect Ratchet & Clank to come to Switch in the same way that Xbox's Ori and the Blind Forest is. What it could mean is that multiplayer titles get PC or mobile releases as well to widen the player base. There's some precedent for that, with Sony Online Entertainment previously releasing Everquest and Everquest II for PC.Before E3 earlier this year, Sony committed to continuing to make "story games," and based on Layden's wording these would likely remain exclusive to Sony's platforms. But it sounds like the company is, at least, open to considering the advantages of multiplatform releases for some internally developed games in the future. Info from Gamespot.com

The Switch release of the Hotline Miami Collection is the first time that Hotline Miami 2 has been made available in Australia, and fans are wary about whether or not it will remain available indefinitely. The Collection is available now on Switch with an MA15+ rating, the second-highest in the Australian system. Hotline Miami 2 was previously refused classification upon release, banning it from sale, seemingly on the basis of a scene that implied sexual assault. At the time, it was banned under the reasoning that Australia does not allow games that "depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified."The local Australian PR representative for Devolver's releases sent us through a short statement, letting us know that the game had been classified under the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) and that "of course the ratings board can still complain and challenge it, and it could be overturned and banned." He also noted that "nothing has been removed from the Switch version that was in the original game." In a follow-up phone call, he clarified that he wasn't sure if the game would be made available on PC, PS4, or any other systems in Australia yet. It's likely that Devolver Digital will take a 'wait and see' approach here, depending on what happens with the Switch version. The IARC classification system allows developers and publishers to submit their games for an automated classification process, filling out a questionnaire that determines the game's age rating. As Kotaku Australia points out, Hotline Miami Collection was recently refused classification after one such submission - but it seems that they resubmitted it again and got through.Ultimately, it's not entirely clear how or why Hotline Miami 2 is available in Australia now, after being unavailable for four and a half years, and there's the possibility that the game's rating will be challenged or overturned, removing it from sale again. For now, though, Australians are able to buy the Hotline Miami Collection, featuring Hotline Miami 2, through the Australian eShop on their Switch. Info from Gamespot.com

During Gamescom, Sony announced their purchase of Insomniac Games, bringing the developer of Marvel's Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank into the Sony family. The deal makes a lot of sense, as the developer has worked on numerous Sony exclusives in the past, and according to Sony games chairman Shawn Layden it was a matter of Sony wanting to recognize the studio's value to PlayStation.Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Layden dug into why Sony bought the studio. Insomniac Games has mostly worked with Sony on numerous past exclusives, but has remained independent, releasing the multiplatform Fuse in 2013 the Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive in 2014, among other titles that weren't PlayStation exclusives. According to Layden, Sony decided that Insomniac Games is the "perfect fit" for their worldwide studios, saying that they "bring quality and innovation, the two things that we lean into every time and all the time."The success of Marvel's Spider-Man, which we gave a 9/10 in our review last year, was just one example of how strong the studio is, Layden said. "There are just a clutch of studios in that independent sphere who are at an accomplishment level of something like Insomniac. They are a very rare bird and we felt that this was the time to formalize the relationship."Furthermore, Insomniac Games is a good fit for Sony's commitment to story-driven games. "An acquisition of a studio of that caliber and size was really a way for us to continue our strength in innovation and quality with a heavy leaning towards the power of narrative, the power of storytelling", Layden explained. "We want to create a place where game developers can bring their vision to life and tell stories that impact the emotions and interests of our gamers. Insomniac fits perfectly into the division that we created at Worldwide Studios here, leaning into first and best."Insomniac Games is now one of 14 studios owned by Sony, including Media Molecule, Bend Studio, Guerrilla Games and Santa Monica Studio.Info from Gamespot.com

We all understand, in one way or another, that DC's continuity is--well--complicated. Between the Crises and the reboots and the rebrands, things can be a little daunting to process if you look too far beyond the surface level--which is why teams like Legion Of Super-Heroes can cause some headaches, especially for people who aren't completely immersed in the weirdest and most arcane corners of DC history.Don't panic if you've never even heard of them--they haven't been around for a while. After a prolonged first run that officially kicked off back in the late '50s, the Legion has enjoyed off-and-on publication over the decades with the most recent volume wrapping up back in 2015, so they haven't actually seen the light of day in any official capacity for a while. And, lack of spotlight aside, the Legion is a team burdened with their own baggage. Naming members of the Justice League is pretty easy, even for someone who's never picked up a comic in their life--but the Legion's roster is notoriously more complicated, and stacked to the brim with names that most likely won't sound familiar like Timberwolf, Bouncing Boy, Shrinking Violet, and Lightning Lass. Some may be more familiar, especially to fans of the CW's Supergirl show, which has developed live-action incarnations for other Legionnaires like Mon-El, Dream Girl, and Brainiac 5--but given just how deep the Legion's typical roster goes, with average team size usually sitting somewhere in the 20s, if not the 30s, the new faces will undoubtedly outnumber the old. But, with any luck, that won't be the case for too much longer, even for the fan who has never encountered the Legion before this moment. DC is bringing a brand new, completely rebooted incarnation of the team to shelves from the minds of all-star creators Brian Michael Bendis and Ryan Sook, who hope to introduce the Legion to a new generation of readers--even if that means having to overcome some of the inherent challenges of a team with such tricky, deep-cut-fueled history.GameSpot spoke with Bendis one-on-one to hear exactly what he hopes his brand new Legion #1 will do for new readers of the series--and, perhaps more importantly, what the new comic actually is."Here's the pitch," Bendis laughed. "It's a thousand years in the future, and the galaxy finds itself in turmoil. So one teenager from each planet of the United Planets gets together, and creates the ultimate super team of superheroes, specifically living the ideals and experience of the 21st century age of heroes. They're bringing back the idea of heroes to inspire the entire galaxy to be its best self, the way Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman did a thousand years ago."He continued, "[this is] a tale of the greatest team of superheroes, the biggest team of superheroes, coming together to bring about peace through understanding and love and adventure."But the fun and the adventure is only a small part of the equation, he added. "For those of us who have already experienced Legion, you know it's like nothing else in comics. It's a very unique experience. It's very dense. It's very exciting. It's like almost next level, and why people are so jazzed online about it is because we're in that time right now where there's a new generation of superhero fans who, because of [movies like Avengers: Endgame] and all the stuff that we've experienced, think they've seen it all, and we know they haven't. We know like, 'Oh no, no, no, no, there's more.'"If that sounds like a daunting prospect, especially in the wake of a pop culture mega-event like Endgame, don't panic. The team at DC doesn't plan on throwing anyone into the deep end unsupervised. "We have a special thing we're publishing called Legion of Super-Heroes Millennium. It's a two-issue special event, and inside it, a character from today is going to discover that she stopped aging and didn't know it. And now is going to be walking us a thousand years into the future, stopping by some very pivotal moments in DC's future," Bendis said. "And, we're going to stop by Kamandi by Andrea Sorrentino, and Batman Beyond, and Booster Gold, by Nicola Scott, and we're going to walk right up to the Legion's front door."And if two-issue specials aren't your thing--or, perhaps, if you're already spending time reading mainline books like Batman or Superman--Bendis has a solution for you as well. "The Legion's actually going to debut very soon in Superman 14, where they're going to offer to a member of the Superman family to come join them, which is very much in the tradition of the Legion--even though this Legion that we're seeing, because of all the way the DC universe works, this is actually the first time the Legion of Super-Heroes has ever appeared."He laughed, continuing, "So anyone reading our stuff today about the Legion of Super-Heroes, every character is meeting them for the first time. They see a brand-new situation for the reader. That's as reader-friendly as it gets."Beyond welcoming new Legion readers into the fold, Bendis hopes the team will help bring the real message of superhero comics into the spotlight. "I must say that, I know there's a lot of people right now, feel very frustrated with the world's energy and stuff. People who've been reading comics, you can see them online just enjoying their time in a fictional world of hope, where good guys win and bad guys lose. And it's been just a joy to tell stories to people who are desperately in need of them. And so if you're looking for that, come join us. That's what comics are all about."Legion Of Super-Heroes Millenium #1 hits shelves on September 4 and Superman #14 arrives on August 28. Info from Gamespot.com

During the Six Major Raleigh Invitational for Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft revealed gameplay footage for the game's upcoming new Ember Rise Operators--Amaru and Goyo. Both Operators previously leaked, as has almost become customary for Siege at this point, but Ubisoft's announcement has revealed a few more details that weren't previously known.Amaru is an Attack Operator armed with a grappling hook that allows her to quickly breach through windows that can't be easily reached by others or ascend up through ceiling panels that are impossible to climb to by any other Operator. Her hook only has four uses and there's a cooldown timer after she fires it out, so it's best used for recon or flanking Defenders, not escaping from ambushes.Goyo is a Defend Operator who can place a single portable shield that's been booby-trapped with a Volcan charge. Destroying the shield causes it to explode and engulf the floor in flames, dealing heavy damage to any Operator in the immediate area. What Do These Two Mean For Siege?A whole lot actually. A whole lot. Both Amaru and Goyo acknowledge parts of Siege that have long been ignored or left unchecked. We'll obviously need to get our hands on the new Operators and see how the playerbase use their gadgets, but both are likely going to force the creation of new strategies--especially Amaru.Defenders have never had a good reason to reinforce floor panels before as attacks would typically only come from doors, walls, or the ceiling. Ash or Hibana could destroy floor panels from below with their gadgets, Breaching Rounds and X-KAIROS respectively, and any Attacker could use a well-placed shotgun blast or grenade to do it. However, every previous Attacker then had to wait for a Defender to wander over to the hole that had been created or lob up grenades and hope one of Jäger's Active Defense Systems weren't nearby. Amaru's ability to now ascend through those panels adds a threat that's possibly significant enough to change how Defenders have to think. At the very least, sacrificing a reinforcement barrier to close up a floor panel means one less barrier to shore up a wall or the ceiling. Defenders are going to have to learn how to be creative doing everything that they've had to do before but with fewer resources.Which isn't to say that Defenders are being left out in the cold, as Goyo's gadget looks to be one of the deadliest traps Siege has ever included. For too long, Attackers would just rush Defenders' deployable shields or smash them out of the way. Frost eventually changed that, though patches have made her less effective in dealing with this threat. However, similar to Frost's Welcome Mat, Goyo's Volcan is probably going to make Attackers pause before they just vault over a deployable shield--especially since Kapkan can booby trap the Volcan charge with his Entry Denial Device. As Attackers have grown wise to how Kapkan can place his traps, his worth has diminished, so Goyo's addition to Siege may be what the Russian Operator needs to become a worthwhile pick again. Goyo works as a worthwhile trapper on his own as well, since smashing or shooting Goyo's gadget doesn't get rid of the obstacle either; it just activates the Volcan's flames early and creates a choke point that the Attackers then have to deal with. Since the flames spread out in all directions as well, Goyo's trap can be used offensively against Attackers too--a type of gadget that Defenders definitely need more of. At the very least, Goyo is going to help Defenders gain control of a round by forcing an enemy team to slow down and not rush.Info from Gamespot.com

The upcoming DC film Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) has brought in Chad Stahelski, the director of all three John Wick movies, to help out with second unit photography, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie, directed by Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) is currently undergoing additional photography to add in more action scenes, which Stahelski will be designing. His stunt company, 87 Eleven, has been involved in the making of the movie since the beginning, so he's a natural choice for the second unit role. It's not yet clear what these additional shoots will entail. The film, which also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, is about a team of women who come together to save a young girl caught in a bad situation. We got our first look at Birds of Prey back in January, but haven't seen much since. It has a February 7, 2020 release date, and will be the first of two DC movies released next year. It'll be followed by Wonder Woman 1984.Stahelski is not currently officially attached to direct John Wick Chapter 4, but it's anticipated that he will helm it. Info from Gamespot.com

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will cover more of the anime than the footage we've seen so far has suggested. While all the trailers have shown familiar scenes up to the point of Goku's iconic fight with Frieza, and the moment when Goku turns Super Saiyan for the first time on Namek, it's now been confirmed that we'll get events beyond this as well.In the latest issue of Jump magazine published in Japan (as picked up by Ryokutya2089, and translated by Siliconera), it's confirmed that the game will stretch to at least the Cell saga, which will feature Kid Gohan and Future Trunks as playable characters (alongside, presumably, Goku). The Androids will also feature, and there will be "original episodes" for both Gohan and Android 16, both of whom play a pivotal part in this saga. It's not yet clear whether the events of the Boo saga will feature in the game. It's also been confirmed that the game will cover filler material from the original series, including the famous (or infamous, depending on who you're talking to) episode where Goku and Piccolo learn how to drive on Chi-Chi's insistence. This will involve taking part in a driving minigame as part of your adventure. The same preview states that the game will include a new character, a former member of the Ginyu Force. Series creator Akira Toriyama has said that the game will feature new, previously untold side stories, and it sounds like this will be one of them. The new character is named Bonyo, and will be from the same planet as Jeice, another member of the squad. She's a rare woman in the DBZ universe of fighters, who apparently left the Ginyu Force because she didn't care for their poses.Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2020.Info from Gamespot.com

Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online have lots of secrets to discover, and now dedicated fans have found yet another one of them. The new Diamond Casino update for GTA Online contains a special mission that is apparently only accessible by getting really, really drunk. As explained by Kotaku, here's how it works: First, you must own a penthouse in the Diamond Casino because that's how you get the ability to play story missions through the update. After you've done that, visit the public bar or your own penthouse bar and starting knocking back shots of Macbeth Whisky. The goal here is to get so wasted that you black out and wake up somewhere else. You can wake up in all manner of different places, so the trick with this Easter Egg seems to be to simply keep destroying your character's liver with booze until you trigger the mission. Try enough times and you may eventually wake up outside, far away from the Casino, with paramedics tending to you after your big night of partying. The casino manager calls you and asks, "So, how's the hangover?" In your drunken stupor you borrowed a Pisswasser beer truck and the manager, Ms. Baker, says she'll be more forgiving if you bring it back to her at the Casino. She also cracks a joke about how you were such a drunken jerk without ever saying a word, which is a reference to how GTA Online characters do not speak.Complete the mission and Ms. Baker says to you, "Congratulations. Your damage limitation skills are second to none."The reward for completing the mission is the ability to take on more missions. Check out the video above from YouTube user Ice InfluX to see the secret mission in action. A second secret Casino mission was also discovered, and--you guessed it--it also involves getting sloshed.GTA Online's Diamond Casino update launched at the end of July, and it's proven to be wildly popular. After the update was released, GTA Online had its most players ever, which is a remarkable achievement given that the game was released in 2013.Info from Gamespot.com
